Ableton Live 9

Ableton Live 9
Ableton Live 9 Suite is the choice for many electronic music producers today. It is unique in it’s workflow compared to many of the other popular DAWs (digital audio workstations) of our day due to it’s “session” view. The session view allows the producer to easily drag and drop audio and MIDI into cells (kind of like an Excel document) and then manipulate the information in that cell and then play it back (looped or not) and tempo synced with all of the other audio in the project. Ableton also has a vast programming language of it’s own called “Max” that can extend hardware such as video game controllers, light controllers, or anything you can think of that can take some sort of computer signal and make it a part of your workflow.

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Pros
  • Extremely versatile concerning it’s ability to work with equipment.
  • Time stretching options.
  • Very solid application made for live performances, hence it’s name.
  • The “session view” is very inspiring.
  • Works with all standard plugin types.
  • A vast community of developers.
  • Free resources are introduced regularly here https://www.ableton.com/en/packs/#?item_type=free

Cons
  • Fairly steep learning curve for any producer used to something like Pro * Tools or Logic Pro.
  • Less friendly for music that rarely snaps to a specific tempo or changes time signatures.

Audio gear

Cool sound that's the final product, we have so many sound manipulation and production platform's, but this particular product brings it to excel level, advanced knowledge is not a prerequisite. Products that is easy to use and still efficient is bound to be the popular choice, during game production fixing various sounds to suit events could be complicated but this package makes it altogether interesting.

I like the ableton Live 9, its complex yet simplistic, so if you want to merge songs, have fun and manipulate with ease this is the perfect platform.

Propellerhead Reason 9

Propellerhead Reason 9
Reason 9 is used among many well known producers, but has less of a marketed presence on the web. It is extremely powerful and comes with a ton of top-notch professional tools right out of the box. It can be used as a plugin in any DAW that works with Propellerhead’s ReWire technology. It sets itself apart by giving you a taste of a real studio with real outboard gear. You work in a rack like you were in a real studio, adding equipment and then flipping that equipment around using the TAB key and wiring it to your heart’s content with the advantage of not being able to plug something into something that will cause a problem and break the equipment (not a luxury of the real outboard gear world).

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Pros
  • Studio professional plugins right out of the box.
  • Great as a learning tool if you lack time in a real studio.
  • Super powerful workflow things by way of being able to wire devices together such as a drum machine wired into a parameter of a keyboard * to control it using CV (control voltage).
  • The mixer is an emulation of the legendary SSL 9000k analog mixing desk and it sounds amazing!

Cons
  • Does not support 3rd party plugins such as VST, AAX, or AU.
  • Fairly steep learning curve for any producer used to something like Pro Tools or Logic Pro.
