Air conditioner

Air conditioner
With the stifling summer heat, you just have to do something to cool the air a bit. Air conditioners are a great way to cool your house. There are different types of air conditioning units. Some can be installed on windows so as to cool the room at the lower level. Others may be installed up near the roof, and part of the machine can be taken to the roof. Such split air conditioners are quite popular too. Then there are duct types where the duct runs in different parts of the home, and there are vents releasing cool air from the central unit. A few air conditioning units of this type even allow variation in cooling temperatures. Finally, there is the mobile variety which saves you money by allowing you to use the air conditioner used in the living room during the day time in the bedroom during the nights as it is portable. Notwithstanding all these conveniences, the fact remains that air conditioners are quite expensive, and require periodic upkeep. Running an air conditioner unit can also be rather expensive as electricity bills will be quite high if it is kept on for several hours a day.

Pros
? Cools the room very quickly and effectively; ? Some units can be moved from one room to another. ? It is not a noisy appliance, especially the latest models. ? Many air conditioners come with reverse cycles, that can be used for warming up the room when it is cold.

Cons
? Expensive to buy, install, maintain, and run. ? It can also mean one room is cool, whereas other room is not, so it can confine people to one room in summers. ? Room needs to be closed for keeping the costs of running the unit low, effectively reducing the quality of air because even windows have to be closed. ? The cooling varies in different parts of the room.

Air conditioning 100%

When i leave my room for a couple of hours and comeback and i have forgotten to put on the air conditioning i can just quickly press a button and after a few minutes instant cold in the whole room.

When i had a ceiling fan i used to die in summer and in winter. It takes long to cool anything down and it does not even get that cold. Not to mention that you can't instantly make it a heater like air conditioning.

A ceiling fan just blows hot air around in summer, but the air conditioning system creates cold air and blows it all over the room not just straight down.

Air condition

World weather change has been taking effect on our small states of Bangla states or on the small country Bangladesh also. Previously I mean before 10 years ago the highest temperature were 23-25 degree F. But now a day here is the minimum temperature is 31 degree F. The heat is dangerous for any one health. Here AC is not available for every one but also AC is making happy the people which are getting heat. Here have on dangerous issue- like some days ago on Kolkata- within the Bangla states- 12 people has been died within 1 day by heat stroke.

Thanks Centurion

If money was no object, this is the best choice

Ceiling fans are a cheap way to keep cool, but they can take a while to work and also can circulate hot air. If you need to cool down, then an air conditioner is the only way to do it in humid conditions because that is what makes the air muggy.

Fans don't help much as air conditioners suck up the moist air and make it bearable. It does cost more, but it's a lot more comfortable.

Clear winner!

Without a single doubt, the air conditioner. If you truly want to cool down from the hot summer days than it is the right choice. Ceilings fans are pretty useless if you look at what they do. They simply circulate the hot air around. They do not actually cool it down. That is a huge advantage of the air conditioners. They actually suck the hot air out of the room and give you the cold one. Or the other way around if needed.

True the air conditioning is more expensive since it uses more electricity but it is definitely worth it with these crazy temperatures. It is more efficient and quicker. I love using mine and I would never go back to the ceiling fans.

Don't get me wrong, ceiling fans are nice. However, over time they can begin to slow down from natural use. Air conditioners are lovely especially when they're energy efficient. Yes, they can be a little costly, but regulate the house temperature way better than your conventional ceiling fan. It's not a dealbreaker for me if a place doesn't have air conditioning. Though I will say it's a major perk.

AC

There's no way a ceiling fan can cool you down enough in the hot, humid summer. It'd help a bit, but it's definitely not enough.

I live in Japan and it's crazy hot and humid here. It's hard to even breathe without the AC on. Even if you open all the windows and turn on the fan, it's not enough without the AC.

I'd say the only advantage a ceiling fan has is it doesn't waste as much electricity. But when I'm in such extreme conditions, I really don't mind spending the money on electricity.

I find it more refreshing

I like walking in a room with an air conditioner on: it might not be healthy, but it's a lot more fresh than just some rotating pales. Also a fan could decapitate you (well I'm paranoid, don't judge!) while an air conditioning... well, it might cause other problems but not as gruesome.

Too hot here for a fan

It is way too hot and humid where I leave to use only a fan. We have to have air conditioning to keep our homes cool. The fans do help, but there is no way it can keep you cool enough here.

Air con

Ceiling fans definitely aren't enough during the hottest days in the summer, in my opinion. I still end up sweating buckets with only a fan so air conditioners are definitely necessary where I live. Air conditioners provide a consistent cooler temperature whereas with a fan, you only feel cool for a brief moment when the breeze hits you. However, to save electricity, I reserve the air conditioners for very hot days only and during the rest of the time I don't mind using a fan.

The right choice

Air conditioner are much better because they are more practical and much more effective / useful. You can change the temperature of a place in a matter of minutes (depending on the power of the air conditioner). So, it's my choice. :-)

AC all the way

I think in the spring or fall when the weather is still relatively warm a window open and a fan going is perfectly fine, but when it comes to the dog days of summer and the temperature is so warm, plus humidity, you need an air conditioner and fan, no matter how powerful just won't cut it. Also, it would be impossible to sleep with it being so hot.

Expensive but Effective

Air conditioners are expensive but more effective than ceiling fans. Ceiling fans cannot make the air any cooler and wouldn't help much when the humidity is high and also makes a lot of noise and blowing away the paper and other lighter things like that with its air. Air conditioners can run on Auto mode but no such option like that in ceiling fans.

Call me Bieber because I hate my fans

I'll have to go with the air conditioner. It does a better job at keeping the room cool compared to a fan, especially in tropical countries where the sun feels like it wants to turn you into toast. The only con to it is that it can be quite expensive to run, especially if you plan to have it on for more than three times a week.

Air conditioner

The air conditioner using is better than a ceiling fan, because it cools the room much faster and keeps a constant room temperature. If I would use a ceiling fan it would cool only at the time is used, if we stop it, in five minutes the room would be hot again.

AC

I know it's expensive and it consumes a lot of power but if you have the possibility to have air conditioning, it's way better. You can set the exact temperature in the room and not worry about it. I agree it has its downsides but it does its job way better than a fan.

No more hot!

I live in Venezuela, there are some states where the temperatures are low and they don't need anything to keep them fresh like a lettuce, but in my state the temperature is very hot, like 90 degrees, and there are states where the temperatures are like 110 degrees. I think that there are no houses with no air conditioner, it is needed!

Air conditioner for sure.

I prefer and love Air condition than the Ceiling fan..for many reasons. one of these reasons is that air condition is cooler than the ceiling fan, ceiling fan can give you hot air if the weather is hot.. but the air condition gives you a cold and relaxing weather in your room or office.

Air conditioner please

I have heard or read horror stories of a ceiling fan coming undone and crashing down in the middle of the room. This does not occur all the time, but it does happen sometimes. I prefer a AC because it also acts as a air humidifier.

Cool Breezes

This is not competition at all. Ceiling fans do not cool the air, they just move it. While that can disturb the pockets of humid, hot air that hang close to the skin on days when evaporation is slowed and the air is still, it's not really able to work with the efficiency of an air conditioner. AC's actually remove moisture and heat from the air, exhausting it back outside and blowing in the cooled air. This allows your sweat to evaporate more efficiently which will cool you down all by itself, but also supplements your body's natural temperature regulation in the process.

No one likes to go backward...

Air conditioners are easy to give comfort that is, unlike fans, they make less noise and they are quick to circulate the entire room. Air conditioners also do not spread heat like many fans do. So if there's heat in the room, air conditioners will chase it away. Ceiling fans, however, would spread the heat to the room instead of keeping things cool. Plus, air-cons are a pretty worthy upgrade, I shall not go backwards :-)

Definitely Air conditioner!!

I rather choose air conditioner rather than a ceiling fan. Ceiling fan just produces a small portion of wind touching our skin while air condition can make our room cooler. During summer I find it hard to relax even though our ceiling fan run almost a day that's why my parent ended buying air condition. As expected air condition makes us relax and comfortable even though summer season is hitting our place.

Air conditioner

I live in a place where temperatures are relatively high, a fan just wouldn't be enough; actually, it would just blow hot air, which is almost worst than no air current at all. Here, people prefer the air conditioner. It's not cheap like a ceiling fan but it will ensure you have cold air to combat the heat.

cold

I like air conditioners a lot more than fans and especially a lot more than ceiling fans because they aren't really all that strong compared to standing fans that can be more focused in terms of blowing air. Also fans just move the air while air conditioners actually cool the air so it's much more comfortable. Even if they cost more energy and money it's worth it for unbearably hot days.

AC

We're here in the tropical country where the heat is so intense. Even you just only take a bath, after a few minutes, you're sweating again so an air conditioner will be a great help to cools you down. A ceiling fan is nothing but to blow the hot air to you directly, which will worsen your feelings and doesn't cool you down at all. I always wanted to be on an air conditioner rather than just a ceiling fan.

Ceiling fan

Ceiling fan
A more affordable way to cooling are ceiling fans. Ceiling fans come in many sizes, styles and colors. These fans basically draw up the hot air and send the cool air down, effectively circulating the air in the room. Ideally, rooms are kept open in order to improve circulation. Ceiling fans are considerably cheaper when compared to air conditioners. Even running costs are considerably lower and there is no need for maintenance either. The biggest disadvantage would be the noise that the ceiling fan generates followed by the importance of not having anything getting in the way of the fan’s blades for obvious safety reasons. Installation may be a bit costly, but it is a one time fee, and it is best to have a professional person install it as in case it is not fastened firmly to the ceiling it could fall off and cause damage and injuries if there are people beneath it.

Pros
? Affordable unit. ? Affordable installation costs. ? No need for maintenance. It is virtually maintenance free.
Nowadays there are various styles and models to choose from, which range from a classic to a more modern look. One may also complement it to the decor of the room where it is installed, since there is a choice of color as well as style.
? Running costs are low.

Cons
? Does not cool the room as much as an air conditioner. ? Roof height is important so as to ensure that it is safely installed, and it needs to be switched off when doing any work at a height in the room. ? It is a rather noisy appliance. ? Light things like paper may fly around when the fan is on so it could be a bit irritating. ? It is of no use in winter.

I have to go with this one

Unfortunately the air conditioner is not for me. I suffer from sinusitis and if I stay in an air conditioned room for extended hours then my sinusitis starts to flare up. This normally starts with a headache and then my nose starts burning. However, I don't have any of those problems if I use a fan and this is what I have always been using.

I like AC but...

I love ACs. The problem is it dries the environment too much and this is really harsh in my throat. Whenever I turn it on I spend the next day coughing and with a sore throat. So I vote for the fan on this one.

Air conditioners are necessary especially now where some states have been seeing temperatures up to 120 degrees, I'm sure they would agree. A ceiling fan is not gonna help much when it's that hot or even in 80 degree weather. I like ceiling fans but I think their main purpose is to keep the air flowing. If you have a window air conditioner the ceiling fan helps to distribute that through to other rooms and the same with heat. Air conditioner is my choice, I don't know how people lived without them before they were invented. I love mine and am grateful for it.

AC wins for it's effectiveness over just a ceiling fan. There's really no comparison. Only pro ceiling fans have is that they cost less to install and run than AC units. AC can get really expensive really fast depending on how hot it is.

I will prefer an air conditioner even if it is a lot more expensive in buying it and the electricity it will be consuming. But that is provided that I can afford it and its maintenance. But if not, of course, I will just buy a ceiling fan or even a stand fan. Sometimes, we should really be discerning as to how much are we going to spend having it and maintaining it.

We live in a tropical country so you can imagine the unbearable heat during summer. We have lots of electric fans and sometimes there are 3 fans running at the same time. But it seems that the electric fan is no match for the summer heat that's why we were forced to install an air conditioner in the living room aside from the one in our bedroom. I have to admit that the air conditioner is a burden in the electric bill but it's worth the comfort that it gives us. I'm sure others here who are living in a tropical country would agree with the comfort of the cool air provided by the air conditioner.

Honestly I can't afford the air conditioner. So my preference is for the fan. And as you can see there are times when you have to think of the air conditioner when things can not be solved with fan alone. I hope that I don't have to be in that situation in case of the fan. But it'd good if we can consider air conditioner for the places near the ocean. Those surely need some cooling around the place.

I choose air conditioner all the way. Ceiling fans are cheaper and can be good when you need to circulate the air, but they really do not cool you down. A ceiling fan just circulates hot air when the temps outside are high. I feel fortunate that I have central air in my house. I still use the ceiling fan in my kitchen to help circulate the air while I have the air conditioning on and this helps to move the cool air around. I have never been able to tolerate the heat and I am glad that I live in a place that has four seasons.

Air conditioner for the comfort, a ceiling fan for the environment. I live in Fl and its just too hot out here for a ceiling fan. We use air conditioners. But ceiling fans are better for the environment in general, but it's just too hot to try anything other then air condition down here.

Both. With temperatures continuing to rise and heat indexes well over 100 +, I am utilizing both. Let me just say that I'm very thankful for them both as well.

The air conditioner cools the air and the fan helps circulate the cooled air so it isn't all in one spot. One unit has to cool the whole house, so fans are quite handy for dispersing it to other areas of the home.

I certainly prefer air conditioning, for the simple fact that it is possible to get better temperatures with it. The fan can be more economical, but without doubt the air conditioning is much better.

Because ceiling fans make a wind and blow stuff around I would say that air conditioning is better. Air conditioning units are mostly quieter than fans too although I think that fans would probably be cheaper to run.

I used to have an air conditioning unit in my sitting room and it would make my whole flat feel cool. Whereas the fan would not make other rooms feel cool.

I think there is no comparison between a ceiling fan and an air conditioner. Both have their own advantages at different times. But when the temperatures soar real high then it is only the air-conditioner that imparts relief. There is nothing more comfortable than sitting in an air conditioned room when the weather is hot and humid.

I think I would go for the both of them since they both perform almost a similar functions at the home. However, I would go for the ceiling fan considering the type of body that I have which is prone to cold once exposed to the much cold environment. I do not see anything bad in going for the air conditioner anyway especially during those hot weathers in Africa that one needs the cool temperature to relax at home or at the work place.

I hear that if you are exposed to air conditioner for a long time, you will develop joint pains. I don't know how true this is, I have not read any scientific explanations. However, I believe air conditioner are best option if you are living in hot climate or in the hot weather. fan will not work when the temperature is above 30 degree Celsius. I agree that the ceiling fan is definitely cheaper than using the air conditioner. However, when you are in a tropical country during summer, the electric fan doesn’t make a difference during daytime because of the searing heat of the sun. With an air conditioner, you will not feel the heat and the home, especially the bedroom, is comfortable to stay in even during the daytime. For us, it is all right to spend for the electricity as long as we are comfortable in our home.

However, I do have a problem of sinusitis and it is sometimes difficult to stay for a very long time in the AC environment. I think if you are in a really hot place then you are better off with a Ceiling fan. A Ceiling fan distributes the cold air more evenly than air conditioner which comes out of only one place and does not really distribute cold air. The disadvantage of a ceiling fan is that it it can carry any dust that is in the room making you sick with the flu and other diseases that are caused by a viral infection. The wind can also lead to pneumonia in my opinion because you have cold air flowing into your chest.
