Amazon will buy Carrefour and conqueror the European market

Amazon will buy Carrefour and conqueror the European market
A big rumor has surfaced this week! The American giant Amazon may buy the whole chain of hypermarkets named Carrefour, spread all over Europe. I've been waiting for a while for Amazon to finally making more steps towards dominating the European market. The Carrefour had a very good day, with stocks going up which signals to most that some real deal might just finalize between Carrefour and Amazon.

Just to understand the difference between the two companies: Amazon is valued at 400 billion euros while Carrefour is valued at only 12 billion euros. So yeah, buying Carrefour may mean nothing for Amazon but it will be a great deal for the European market because Carrefour is present is so many European markets, especially in those that Amazon hasn't got any market share, like the Eastern European countries.

Even though we haven't got any tangential proof of this transaction taking place but with Amazon buying Whole Foods Market in the US it wouldn't surprise me for Amazon to make a similar move, buying a traditional retail network here in Europe.

I personally suspect that Amazon will conquer Europe in the next 5 years, expanding and buying big companies in each European country they plan to expand in. I would love to benefit from Amazon's services in Europe, such a big company will offer great products at good prices and with exceptional customer service!

It Benefits them

They seem to be buying many major retailers. And they are acquiring every single opportunity possible for expansion. So yes, it's possible that they may enter into the market. And they can get more out of the investment. This will also help the region. So I am thinking that it'd be interesting to see how the Amazon works with the companies.

At this rate, I think so yes

Amazon is the best and leading online store that can offer you the best service for your money in giving you the best of the best products and having it delivered to your door step as long as they have deliver service in your state of order placement and residence.

With the rate of people's patronizing Amazon online shop, I definitely see them knocking off all and competition in the market, and if Amazon buys off Carrefour and conqueror the European market, I definitely wouldn't be surprised because with rate at which Amazon is growing, they are capable of achieving anything.

It's interesting that they want to buy Carrefour. I'm in the United Kingdom and there aren't any Carrefour stores over here but I assume they are popular in mainland Europe. I guess they are doing this because they want to expand more into groceries and want to compete with some of the big supermarkets in the European countries. We will just have to wait and see how it ends up but I doubt they will be able to just conquer the European market by buying this company.

I disagree!

Yes, I agree that Amazon is a big power on the market these days, but the Amazon will not conquer Europe in the next 5 years, not even in the next 10 years....Europe is big enough and has its own markets who will not allow to Amazon do what it wants in Europe. Here are bigger sharks than Amazon!

Amazon is extremely strong on the market (this can not be denied), but honestly... I don't think the brand is so strong at that point. Not because of the financial issue, but because of the logistics involved in this type of business.

There are a lot of companies in Europe that already offer great deals, it's not like one company is going to change a whole continent, there are also a lot of online sites that are very cheap and are conquering the whole world. Plus it's not like Amazon UK, doesn't exist so this isn't too much of a valid point. Well, on one note it is good that they are making their steps and it can certainly help, however I am not too sure about the whole conquering part.

Well, I am from Europe but have never heard of the Carrefour supermarkets nor do we have one in my country. But I do agree with you that this is a very smart move from Amazon since from the things you've said Carrefour seems to be a great option to buy out. I will keep my eyes on how things will progress and I hope that we will soon have Amazon shops all over Europe as well.

I guess it will be like 7-11 that when it first arrived in our country, the first outlets were deluged with people who are curious and later on became their loyal customers. That’s the advantage of a franchise store, it is already time-tested with its system and methods that customers will be coming in because they already know what they will see. And since Amazon is the biggest online company now then I guess Carrefour will also be a success not only in Europe but also elsewhere in the world.

For my own point of view this is a good sign for amazon spreading there wealth gain towards Europe buying the Carrefour supermarkets well greatly help them economically and Amazon can put some stuff inside the Carrefour supermarkets to sell them. i will continue to monitor this kind of deal this must be big.

While it's definitely possible predictions like these are usually dangerous. It can happen in a near or not so near future but to take business-related decisions based on hunches and predictions is not a good idea. It's best to wait it out and only make decisions based on evidence

I've never heard about this rumor and I can't really say if it's a good thing, because if Amazon gets too powerful and starts to buy everything, it might reach monopoly status and we know how that goes. Competition is needed when we're talking about things like these, especially in Europe because Carrefour is huge here.

Amazon has the capability to buy Carrefour supermarket since it is more financially strong and making more profit than Carrefour. So i wont be surprised if it happens in a few years time.

Well Carrefour is also here in Pakistan but the Bank Alfalfa is its owner here. Well Amazon has bought shares in Whole foods as well. They are planning big this time around. No wonder they are threatened by the presence of Alibaba and they believe that right measures are needed to defeat the Chinese giant.

Yeah, it's possible that's what they do, most companies end up preying on lower ones, when they get to the top, so I don't think amazon will be any different, because it's like it's inscribed in their DNA, just like Facebook was buying every tech social network and google buying up almost every thing, so it's normal, once they get to the top, they take the move of buying the lower ones.

Amazon is a giant company. It has the presence almost all over the world. Sadly, Amazon does not deliver physical products in my home country, perhaps that is because of our country's trade policy and not Amazon's fault. I did not know about carrefour, I never heard of this company. The taking of 12 billion company by 400 billion company is not news for me. This is just a small deal.

I think this is possible considering the fact that all Amazon is to pay well for Carrefour take over and the deal will be sealed.Amazon is a giant company and it will be easy to penetrate European market through this channel it will be a plus for them.

To be fair - with the operative word here being " rumor " and its not just one rumor either - as there is also the one regarding Google buying out Carrefour too - I have to admit to being not altogether sure where you are going with this one - especially as in reality - whether or not Carrefour lands up doing a deal with either Amazon or Google or maybe even neither - is at present - nothing more than pure speculation.

That said - as Amazon is already extremely popular as well pretty big in many European countries - with the rate at which its currently expanding - think it safe to say that - its almost inevitable that it will grow into something bigger and better - with or without Carrefour.

I think it would depend on how Amazon is going to manage Carrefour when the take over is complete. One thing that I've come to realize is that success in any business is not always all about money, but how efficient the management is going to be. So, I will be looking to see how the progression goes.

Anything is possible with Amazon, but I think they need to be careful as they don' want to be violating anti trust laws. They can't become too big of a conglomerate because they might be sued by anti trust lawyers. However, with the way they are able to diversify and encompass many subsidiaries they may dodge these charges.

I think amazon needs logistic companies and the local data companies who are into retail. So that's something we have to interested in that case. You can see that EU market has surely been slow.. But people are still spending and staying alive. So that's something we have to consider as well. I have not seen the progress of Amazon yet but those two companies would be making them rich for sure.

Have you noticed that bigness is the name of the game? Take for instance Google. How many start up companies has it bought already? I remember Blogger dot come as the first company that it bought. Facebook, for its part, had bought Instagram that is also picking up in growth. And now it is the turn of Amazon. Just to gain that bigness, big companies are buying the small ones to make them a giant. I am talking through my experience because the bank that I work for is the biggest in our country and it had bought more than 5 banks already so it is getting even bigger.

From your mouth to Gods ears! I really really hope this is true and not just a rumor. Carrefour has just opened 10 stores in my country and it's usually very hard to order things from Amazon because of the logistics of shipping. If they were to be under Amazon, this would be happy days we would have access to such a big market, basically the world. They are just some things you can't get from a third world country, and I love my country don't get me wrong.
