Becoming an amazon seller won't guarantee a profit!
A lot of people I know that activate in the same circles I do had started getting into a new trend: Selling products on Amazon. They all got into a very expensive course where some Amazon "experts" teach them how do make money on Amazon by buying products from China and reselling them on Amazon US.

First I consider that course irrelevant. I found the exact same course online within 5 minutes of searching on some torrent based websites. Second, there is a huge number of tutorials online as well as communities where you can ask questions and get your answers, you don't need to pay 1.5k for a course you can find online.

Another issue I have with the people running expensive courses, in general, is the fact that they claim to be experts in selling stuff on Amazon, but somehow they find the time to start up courses and deal with students instead of focusing on the thing that brings them money: Amazon. Any person that makes more money from selling courses than by practicing what he teaches is a scam, this is just my opinion. Why would someone teach people secrets on making money in exchange for money? It doesn't make any sense unless we are talking about a scam. I'm not going to share my best-developed SEO techniques to anyone, not even in exchange for money. Because those secrets already produce a profit for me and I'm not willing to let the world know about them because it probably won't work anymore.

I have the same issues with this "let's sell products on Amazon" scheme. Sure it may work if you have your own product and YOU are the manufacturer. But when you don't even meet the manufacturer and its all done over Skype with a guy from China that sends you some samples I don't think you have a lot of chances in turning a profit around. There are some serious big competitors in Amazon at the moment, with years of experience and reviews. I doubt a small investment like yours would turn a nice profit around outranking those big sellers in the process.

A few more known issues that Amazon sellers may face:

  • Registering. A lot of sellers face all kind of sign up problems. If you aren't from the US you need to implement a few schemes to ensure your account gets verified. It seems you first need to implement a US address and then change it with your own real address. This doesn't sit well with me.

  • You will get paid after 14 days. Each time you sell something, you won't get paid evidently. You need to wait two weeks.

  • Your competitors will be deadly. Seriously the competition on Amazon is awful. Sellers will do anything to stay on top, this includes buying your competitor's product just to leave negative reviews.

  • It will take a lot of time to build enough reviews and a good position in your niche for you to make a profit on your product.

  • Anything can happen at any moment. You basically live with a constant fear of major problems. Amazon can close your account at any time or delete your whole listing without answering to many questions. The huge number of abuses done on Amazon over the years have implemented some pretty strict policies.

No guarantee you will get anything

The problem is so many people are affiliates and people access the site through so many ways, that it is luck if someone clicks on your link and buys.

Amazon have tightened up their rules too so it's much harder to earn. In addition the widgets to add are quite cumbersome to add. Also there are some less than reputable sellers on Amazon and so it's not as trusted as it used to be.

It's not a get rich quick scheme

Being a part of the Amazon Associates program in order to sell Amazon products and get a commission on every sale is a very nice opportunity to earn money online. It gives you the possibility to make thousands per month. But the notion that you could easily make money by becoming an Amazon seller is wrong.

In order to become a successful Amazon seller, you should be able to have a website. And that website should be able to generate a considerable amount of traffic (visitors) every day. And I'm not just talking about hundreds. I'm talking about thousands. That's because not everybody who visits your website is a sure buyer. That's why the more visitors to your site, the better.

However, generating a lot of traffic requires commitment and dedication. It isn't achieved overnight. You'll need to churn out quality content for your website, be able to promote your content properly in different social media networks and blogs, and hopefully get a decent following which in turn, would lead to sales.

Becoming an Amazon seller opens up a lot of possibilities for earning. However, it is not 100% guaranteed that you will make money.

Earn 80 cents

I had been a member of Amazon for the last 8 years since I started blogging. I have Amazon ads links in my blog and Hubpages.

Until today, I had earned 80 cents, sold only 1 prayer book. No matter how many Amazon ads I have insert into my blogs or posts, it is impossible to earn anything there.

Posted by peachpurple on 07-07-2017
I wouldn't say it's impossible necessarily. Are you making sure you're marketing to the right audience? Being that you're trying to sell a prayer book, you naturally want your ad to be present on anything religious, I would assume. Other religious books or pages, home decor that's religious-oriented would be good too. I don't know if you have any control over where your ads are placed, but if you can, I'd put them in places you know your target audience goes.

Selling is Random Online

You can see that selling is not that easy as people think it is. In fact selling on recurring basis is lot harder in some cases. I have found that people who are into Amazon or Ebay selling don't find it easier. So you can see that you need people active on your shop for this to work. And you have to reduce the amount of the uncertainty for this to properly work out. So that being said, it can be said that some of such profit may work out too.

The way don't build by itself if you don't have to roll up your sleeves for makeing the workd become a complete reality. Amazon is an excellent platform and gives you all the features to succeed, but you have to know how to use things to make everything work in your favor.

Im not agreeingbor disageeeing to any of it because im don't know how it works. I have read about it but your paid thru amazon points if your working for them. You may gain profit by reselling the products you bought. That might help you earn. Or you can check sales on amazon, and post it to other sites, you will earn by acting as the middle man or the buyer for tha customer.

Selling products on Amazon has become a huge market. I would never go into it myself, because selling things just isn't my cup of tea. Not only that I have had issues with Amazon over other matters, mainly taking money out of my account without my authorization, a large amount. There's no way I would do business with them. Holding back your money that you made for two weeks is a huge red flag, there's red flags everywhere here. Not a good idea. I've been around the internet and checking online stuff out for a pretty good while, I'm getting good at sniffing out the scams and shady practices of a lot of these companies.

The only thing that I have ever sold on Amazon is my print on demand book and ebook. I did not sell too many copies, however, I did receive royalties from my book sales. Apart from books, I have never sold any thing on Amazon. However, I am an Amazon afiliate and I place amazon ads on my websites. I have earn money as an affiliate. It is possible to make money as an Amazon seller or amazon affiliate, however, in order to drive sales you need to market the right product to the right audience.

I am interested in Amazon affiliates because I have been reading about the earnings of some people there. But when I checked on the mechanics of the program, I need a website so that I can truly promote the products that I will be handling as an affiliate. When that product gets a sale because of my promotion then I earn a commission. Am I right on my understanding of the affiliate program?

I think it depends on what you sale on Amazon to be successful. Not to mention they have a lengthy refund period so it is not guaranteed money also.
Posted by simplym on 07-07-2017
I think the issue with being a seller is that you need buyers. You need to get more buyers through traffic. And if you fail to get the traffic then things can be harder to get consistent traffic. I can tell you that amazon selling is not that easy as people make it out to be. You need to compete with other sellers. And you have to be regular with the supply. So that's how you become more profitable. It does not happen overnight.
Posted by overcast on 07-08-2017
You need buyers. People will buy only when they know about your product. Therefore, you need to market and promote your products well to educate potential buyers about your product. Promoting and marketing do not guarantee sales. Your product itself must be useful. If you can establish your product as a useful item, you can have a buyer for the product.

I've heard a lot about amazon specially the good things. And I also know that once you start out, without investment, it will be really hard. I've also heard of this thing called 'drop shipping' where you sell a virtual item online and when you have a buyer, you use the buyer's address for delivery. Sometimes though you'll have to get some reputation first before those buyers can trust you.
Posted by galegatling on 07-08-2017
It requires a lot of investment. Like products and the shipping packaging stuff. And that's not all product has to be good. Or you have to go back to your own shop and then that may often not be profitable. So in such case you should go with the Amazon whenever possible. This may mean having some loss at some time. That's the thing to be considered as well.

Instead of having FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) business where you are required to send products to Amazon and Amazon will deliver the products to the customers when there is an order, dropshipping with Amazon is better. All you have to do is list the product on your website and sell from your website. When the product is sold, you order the same product from Amazon and ask to send it to the customer.
Posted by vinaya on 03-31-2018
Yeah i have also wondered why some one who is making a killing online will suddenly decide to make a $7 course, come on if you are really making such sale you did be more busy trying to manage your business. But you can still make a good income selling on Amazon if you know your onions well, finding products that sell and running additional promotion for you products.
Posted by zeedollar on 07-08-2017
I think maybe the only people making a decent living re-selling on Amazon are the people making the courses. These people make courses and then sell them to desperate people at a pretty high cost. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's impossible to make some money from selling on Amazon, but you have to be realistic about the outcome and realize it will more of a supplemental income, not a primary one.
Posted by Lizzyib on 07-08-2017
I have never sold anything on Amazon and I do not think I ever will. It is such a huge marketplace so I would imagine the competition would be outrageous. I will stick to just buying from them and only for the reason that I get paid with Amazon Gift Cards. I would definitely consider the people trying to sell you there secrets to become successful at selling on Amazon would be a scam. Like you said if they are experts then they should be making enough money through Amazon that they should not need to try to make money by selling their "secrets."

I'm not an Amazon Seller. I'm an Amazon Affiliate. On the affiliate side of the fence I have not heard any major complaints. On the seller side of the fence, I have heard good and bad. I think if the bad can be proven, then the company should be ashamed of engaging in such unscrupulous business practices. It's not like they aren't a giant in the industry. There's no reason for a giant to behave in such a manner. They're supposed to be the example.

I have published two books on Amazon and I sell my books and earn royalties. In that sense, you can call me Amazon seller. However, I am more of Amazon associate and promote Amazon affiliate products. The best thing about Amazon Affiliate products is you do not need funds to get started. You earn 10 percent royalties for each product you sell.
Posted by vinaya on 03-31-2018
There is a lot of competition on Amazon. Even if you do manage to sell something you might not get the price you hoped for the item. Sadly, that is just the way it is. It is competitive being on there and selling on there.
Posted by kgord on 07-14-2017
I have noticed that some of the time it takes efforts to reach to people. With more people becoming sellers, it'd be reasonable to say that amazon is pretty much saturated. And one has to bring some unique products in order to make money. Not all the time that is possible. And so one should focus on the efforts. It all comes down to meeting new clients. And then converting the proper conversion for the work.
Posted by overcast on 07-15-2017
becoming Amazon seller or ebay seller for that matter does not gurantee good profits. In order to drive sales you need to be a great marketer. You must have marketing skills. You need to market your products to the proper channels.
Posted by vinaya on 08-08-2017
Just like in a business you don't make profit from just having the product but going out to market, let people know about the product,it usefulness and how to use it and that way you drive sales and not the other way round. So those not making sales are not doing enough.I don't think it a scam but one need to do more to succeed.

It may go both ways in my opinion, you might end up making lots of profit from selling on Amazon or end up selling nothing and be left with practically nothing. I think it's all dependent on the commodities one is actually specializing in selling.

There are some commodities that are on high demand, so if you find yourself in the position of selling these kinds of products, there is always the guarantee of making a reasonable amount of profits over the cause of time because of increased sales and the opposite is bound to occur should the case be different.

Becoming an amazon seller cannot really guarantee a profit to anyone, but only if you are a guru in it. I still prefer other online business to being a seller of products or doing affiliate marketing.
Posted by babyright on 10-01-2017
Yes, I believe that there are definitely no guarantees in life and this is one of them. You can have a good product but marketing is everything and if you lack in that department then you're most likely not making a profit.

I've heard that if you do dropshipping, you can earn big without releasing any money on your pocket. I don't fully understand how to do this that's why I'm still looking for an answer or someone who can teach us how to do dropshipping step-by-step. Hoping that there's someone who can share their experiences with us and gives us tips on how to earn money by doing dropshipping.

What I have been reading about Amazon in terms of earning money is the affiliate program where you can register to be an advertiser and you will be posting about their products. When there is a sale caused by your advertisement then you get a commission. But with being a seller of products to Amazon, I guess it is a better idea since you become a trader. However, if you are going to sell Chinese-made products then I guess there are others who have already done that ahead of you.
