Can Yahoo make a comeback ?
Every user who had a Yahoo account in August 2013 was likely affected by its massive hack. Now the company is trying to put a curtain on it's mistakes by saying the security industry's favorite adage is that there are two types of companies: those that have been hacked and those that don't know they have been hacked. Among those that know, Yahoo stands out. Although credit card and bank details were not hacked but everything else including names, email addresses, phone numbers, birth dates as well as hashed passwords and security questions and answers were compromised. We have all seen what yahoo have been through and how it's demise occurred. Do you think that Yahoo can ever make a comeback into the tech world and become the best email service as it used to be.

Agree

Anything is possible

I have been using Yahoo since high school. I'm now working, and I still have my very first account safe and secure. Their email service fits my needs quite well. I do have a Gmail account but I still use my yahoo email.

Can they take the top spot away from Google? Well, they certainly can. They have billions of dollars in assets. So anything is possible with yahoo. If they just make some additional tweaks here and there, make the emails load faster, lessen the ads, and the like, they can become the king of email once again. They still have a huge user base. They're still making tons of money. They can still make things happen.

Agree

They can make comeback. But they are too big to make changes. And they are acting like Microsoft and Apple. And trying to act too big. So they have to treat their business like small startup and get to the profits. They can do that. But they are too spent on the diversity programs and other stuff. They won't be going in profit any time soon.

I agree!

Sure why not? All the companies have ups and down and most of the recover fast and become what they used to be. I do use the Yahoo email service and I am very satisfied with what they offer me!

They could!

I still use my yahoo account from time to time. I know it's not as good as Gmail or hotmail (that's actually dying too) but I do have some other accounts link there so I have to open it whenever I forget the password. Maybe they coul come back stronger and better, we will never know until it hit us...

Why not?

Theoretically yes, the possibility of a comeback exists and is entirely possible. But I think considering the level of competition, it's better not to risk (unless the company comes back with something totally innovative to be able to fight on an equal footing with the market).

No way

I just can't see Yahoo making a comeback. The problem with Yahoo is that they did not adapt to the changes in our Internet usage fast enough and right now it's just too late to change. I know that they have tried new ownership but I just can't see it surviving much longer. Give it a few years, maybe even just a few months and you will probably see a news report about how Yahoo is winding down their operations. It had a lot of potential but was just slow to adapt.

Seriously no

I can't see that every happening. They had their chance and they just didn't have what it took to advance. They just don't have the know how to advance. They had a short spell and that was it for them. I don't see it either making any type of comeback.

Too little, too late, too bad.

I don't think so. Not so long as they are owned by other corporate entities with agendas that go beyond search engine results. What has made Google so successful is its independence. There is certainly bias in its results, that is unavoidable in the grand scheme. But when compared to a blatant product-shill network like Microsoft's Bing, Google's search engine is pure as the new-driven snow. Furthermore, Yahoo! recently announced that literally every single account was compromised back in 2013. Not most. Not more than they thought. ALL.

A company cannot be run this way and that goes triple for a company that brokers in communications where an expectation of privacy exists. I always try to tell people not to expect e-mails to be private, but that's beyond the point. The expectation is there and it has a significant impact on these companies.

Useless

Why would yahoo come back, Google is the go to company to search things and also offers tons of other services. Yahoo is old and outdated and to change they would have to invest too much money and hire a lot of people and that is simply not possible.

No

I don't think so because it seems like they are moving in the wrong direction. All of the things I used to like about Yahoo are now gone and I think they should have just focused on those and grow them as their niche instead of trying to compete with Google. They seem to be going the way of Bing which is just sort of existing but not really used anymore.

Too Old, Too Late

Yahoo's breaches and inability to keep up with changing technology is and has been hurting them for years. Even prior to the breaches, they couldn't keep up with the changing times and let things fall to the wayside. Because of that- they were already in decline. The breaches are just the final nail in the coffin for them to be frank.

It's dead for good or just on average note

I see Yahoo making a comeback in social media usage by the people as a complete impossible task. Everything in this life has its trending period and yahoo's time has come and passed, and it's been replaced by several new social media platforms that offers 200 times more of what yahoo ever offered to its users then.

I can pretty recall then how popular yahoo was, if you are a computer and Internet literate individual then, you definitely must have at least 2 yahoo accounts but today, the reverse is the case. Nobody even remembers that there was a social media platform ever called yahoo.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Bing, Whatsapp, Baddo, 2go, etc all have knocked off yahoo off its perch at the moment and there are still more coming in to compete with the already existing social media networks.

Disagree!

I don't think that Yahoo can really make a comeback because Google has so much to offer and they really dominate the SEO and maps and lots of stuff like android games, apps, OS, and much more. Google is like a full grown man compare to Yahoo which is like a toddler for me. Nothing can beat Google anymore as they grow stronger and wider.

I think that it is particularly hard seeing how Google has evolved in these past years. Still, We can never state that something is impossible. If history has taught us anything is that anything is possible. Nowadays with technology this is even more true

Everything that goes up comes down sooner or later. This is the law of nature which affects one and all. The best part of this cycle is that the vice versa also happens in an equal probability. No one knows the future. Maybe gmail witnesses a downfall and then yahoo captures the world and that too in more prepared manner.

I don't know whether Yahoo can retrieve back its image but I am confident that it will protect its own stand, try to rectify the mistakes and implement new guidelines to help to combat hackers.

Everything can happen nowadays so it's hard to give a solid answer, but the way Google keeps evolving and yahoo is nowhere to be seen makes me wonder if they'll be able to come back. I've seen a couple of people lately still using their mail service, but it's something they have created a long time ago and the way their search engine gets forced on to you sometimes when you install something really looks like a step in the wrong direction.

They can make a comeback if only they will be willing to learn about the latest development that has been integrated to the email from other email service providers and make changes to theirs also.

I don't think Yahoo will make a comeback. It's been awhile since Yahoo was as big as it was back in the day. I will say Yahoo was one of the early email and search engine pioneers for the internet, but it seems like when google stepped on the scene, Yahoo started fading quickly. They couldn't advance with the times.

I'm still using Yahoo for most of my e-mail addresses and so are a lot of my friends and acquaintances so I can hardly call their email service dead. I only use a Google mail because it is required to access other Google services like Play Store but other than that, I'm quite comfortable with my Yahoo mail as a standalone email service without the frills. As for the hacking that occurred form 2013 onward, I'll have to say that the hackers only got the data I supplied to Yahoo, and they're not exactly 100% authentic.

You can't really say whether they can or whether they can not, most of the people above "yelling they can't", don't even understand how the world was designed. This universe has a way of doing things. Any body can make a comeback and Yahoo's case is not different, Y'all should know that google might even collapse tomorrow. so it's possible, they just need to get their sh*t together and offer some watery stuffs and watch them pull the weight back at them.

I was using Yahoo email since a long time. However, when Gmail arrived in the market, I began using gmail more. I even imported my yahoo contacts to gmail. I began using yahoo mail less and finally one day I stopped using yahoo mail. After a long time, I wanted to check my yahoo account, sadly, I did not remember the password. I even did not remember the answers to the security question. My account was locked forever.

Until now I’m still using yahoo email I think they are still trying to comeback because if not yahoo email is dead now. If they can evolve faster like Google and secured their site they have still the chance to be on the top. If they know and learn how to do latest development you will be surprise any day they will be on top again. Ever since I like yahoo and I’m quite comfortable using it.

In the middle of this year, Yahoo was bought by Verizon and from the looks of it, Yahoo will be continuing with its free service to the public. In fact, my email accounts are in Yahoo until now. Yeah, I had received several notices from Yahoo about that hacking and I am advised to change my password and the personal question. I think Yahoo will continue to survive and it will turn a profit by next year.

In life, you should learn not to say never because nothing is certain.Any company can work on their mistakes and come back stronger and break down all barriers. For me, I think Yahoo would come back stronger. All they need do is to put stronger security measures to be sure that everything remains intact, though I know Google is really giving them a run for their money.

There are lots of work for them to do if they are serious about making a comeback. I mean the marketing strategy of Google has been quite exceptional that pushing them off might be a bigger job on the part of Yahoo.

It is not impossible but it will be quite difficult for Yahoo to make a comeback. Google is definitely more popular and is continuously trying to improve user experience. The world range of services provided by Google makes it the leader. On the other side Bing's market share has been growing and I think that it is mostly due to the Bing Rewards. So it will be really difficult for Yahoo to compete with Google and Bing.

I don/t know about this one. Most people I know have had negative experience with Yahoo. I think they are reluctant to try it as their primary email address or to use it as their browser. I just think there are better services out there, and most people avail themselves of these. I mean I have yahoo as a secondary email but that is it.

I think Yahoo was spending a lot of money buying the other startups. They need to start working on them. I am not sure if the Yahoo is really profitable anymore. So that's something we have to understand about the Yahoo properties. You can see that making comeback into the startup world is not going to be easy. One has to focus on customers. This is something people have surely forgot as well.

Sorry, but no. I still have and use my yahoo email, but I honestly do not think they can make a comeback. It's all Google now. Even without this hacking incident, I think Yahoo would've dropped. They'll probably remain in business, but they'll never be as big as they were back in the 2000s. The Yahoo era is over.

While I still have a few yahoo accounts, they are antiquated and don't allow changes such as your date of birth and changing things like your photo are a mission to find the right tab. They also rely heavily on ads that block views and make using the email system cumbersome. The writing on Yahoo has become so trashy no one can take them seriously and messenger which I used to use was hard work too. They also deleted lots of older archived emails which is annoying as I know I didn't delete them, but my sent ones have remained. I doubt people will sign up or switch but just keep what they have.
