Could Germany have defeated the USSR?
i have read multiple books on the matter off Soviets vs the Nazi's World War II.

Some go as far as claiming that Russia were lucky in beating the Nazi's. Listing reason such as;- -If the Nazis never attacked the Balkans -If Hitler didn't enforce Nazi cruelty -If during Operation Case Blue, German forces entirely ignored Stalingrad and the surrounding region and instead raced southward to the Russian oil refineries deep within the Caucasus fields, such as Baku. -If Germany properly equipped itself for the Russian winter weather.

And so on What do you think/

The USSR did not have a very strong economy, compared to the much more free market Germany of the time and so I personally think that if it where to come down to it Germany could of grown much faster than the USSR and develop technologies to easily out perform the USSR. As far as raw firepower however the USSR was much larger and so if it was a battle with sticks and shields then the USSR would win no doubt.

Yea the USSR would have won irrespective of Hitler's plan because he was faced on two front and also the winter campaign also helped the USSR to fight the Germans to a standstill.

I guess the economy has something to do with the war because that’s what I saw in the second world war between Japan and the US. According to the history books, Japan surrendered because of the atom bombs that annihilated Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But oldtimers in Japan say that they surrendered because the population was already hungry. The economy of Japan was ruined that they needed a respite from fighting.

I think Germany would have been crushed by the brute force of the USSR, which has always, and will always, be a strong and successful country. They have so much land that they are hard to attack as it requires much larger numbers and because of their large population they will obviously have more soldiers, as well as money, which can be used to buy better weapons/ bombs.

This not about land and population, when a country feels that it cannot continue with a war it will immediately call for peace, USSR was large but they were ready to fight to the finishing, even if Hitler had successfully overrun Moscow, the capital will be shifted eastward for the fight to continue.

It’s easy to talk about all of these what-ifs that could have happened with hindsight. The truth is, we have no idea what it was like back then. I don’t feel that we can say whether or not Russia should have or could have beat Germany or not with any accuracy.

After reading the comments though, I have to agree with you guys. Russia was more powerful than Germany at the time and I think they would’ve been able to take on Germany without having too difficult of a time.

Dont forget that Germany fought the Russians in the First World War and successful led a civil unrest and revolution that unseat the Monarch and sue for peace, Germany was strong before the war began even better than USSR.

Germany was quite a tough one for the USSR but still they came out successful. I believe there is nothing impossible in this life and so it could have been possible for Germany to have defeated the USSR. But I guess the preserverance and pain tolerance of the USSR was their great secret. Going through the Russian history of that period made me understand how they really endured pains and refused to give up till they finally won. It actually taught me a life lesson of perseverance and tolerance.

Russia fought gallantly and in the war but we're not that prepared to fight the Germans, the West did a lot to supply the USSR with weapons and food so they can keep the German focused in the East for the time being while they prepare for western campaign.

But the Russian would have won the war but it will take more time than it did.

If we look at the facts we can see that Russia indeed won the war but we should at least consider some trivial issues. Germany was at wear on many fronts, something that Hitler had not planned for when he launched wars everywhere. The Nazi's had not prepared for the Russian winter and from experience I can tell you it is no joke. The German fronts were divided one attacking Saint Petersburg and another drifting towards Moscow, so there were many factors at play here.

Yes if Hitler hadn't took the war on 2 fronts, yes, with the right strategy the URRS could easily been destroyed by Nazi Germany. I sometimes wonder how the world would have turned out today if Nazi Germany did took over the world.

Yea have also taught about the reactions of world leaders and consequences of the defeat of Hitler has won the war, immediately he would invade the US and the US would fall easily because by then the entire European nations would have been supporting the German soldiers with both ammunition and supplies.

Yes I believe that Germany could have won the war in Europe (and against the USSR) had it actually invaded Britain when it was at it's strongest and whilst the United States had not joined the war. Those close to Hitler who survived the war have said that Hitler had always admired the British & thought they were very close to Germans in thinking and so he had not wanted to continue to fight them. Indeed Rudolph Hess, who was the deputy leader to Hitler, flew into Scotland and was captured with many believing he wanted to negotiate a peace treaty but was instead taken prisoner and never allowed to reveal why he made that trip. If Germany had invaded there would have been no staging point to launch the invasion of Europe from in 1944. I think Britain would have made peace with Germany if it had been invaded and so Hitler could have concentrated all his forces against the USSR.

One could indeed argue that Hitler might have won the heart of the Russian people simply because Stalin was such a monster. Nonetheless, though, he didn't win their heart, and that was a tragic blunder (for the Nazis). Instead, they waged a war of the worse sort along with the fact they foolishly didn't issue winter uniforms, causing the same problem Napoleon had to deal with.

If Germany had not picked bones in two different fronts against USSR and Allied Forces, It could have defeated USSR. When you have enemies in two sides, these enemies will be friends and they will jointly attack you. This is what happened with germany.

The German can't fight the USSR without preparing for a winter campaign and a long supply line which it will take for the German to penetrate the USSR, the Soviet were ready to defend their motherland and to die doing it.

If German has took Moscow the capital will move eastward until the Germans have been drawn deep into Russian then the counter offensive will began to reconquer the lands.

Fighting on two fronts was what really cost the German Nazi the fight with Hitler. Germany have defeated the USSR but having to fight two wars at the same sides they got flanked and thus their defeat. I really admired their valor and courage in the war only that the odds were pretty much against them.

That's what I think. Hitler fought in two battle fronts, one against the USSR anbd two, against the Allied Forces. I also believe the nazis could have defeted the Communists if they were not fighting with the Alied forces at the same time. Thank God Hitler was a fool, otherwise the Nazis would have won.

Let peace reign in the world. Reminding us about wars and the country that should have won is not really the right way to go about it. I pray that no two nations will fight against each other in the near future.
Posted by Barida on 10-03-2017
Yea we pray so but it's good to learn History so as to avoid future recurance, but to be sincere conflict is inevitable and cannot be avoided. Conflict is something that must happen but it's the means to avoid mass killing that should be put into consideration.

I believe that it could have yes. The only reason it did not was because Hitler was a great speaker but a poor strategist and didn't listen to his generals and officers and instead chose to invade Russia before it should have. Then general winter came and the rest is history

This is just speculating, okay? I agree that Germany could have defeated USSR during the war. My take on Germans is their good planning and precision. Take note that during that era, Germany is the maker of quality household items and automotive vehicles. If the war was protracted for more years then Germany would have been the ruler of the world. But fate has its own design so no matter how good you are in planning, you really need luck to succeed in whatever endeavor you indulge in.

I agree that Germany is a very developed country and very technologically savvy. I don't really remember my history much. I know that what has destroyed Germany ,which at this moment should be one the greatest and richest countries in the world is Hitlers. I think that the Hitler period destroyed Germany. Russia also has a very good strategies and I think is very interested in expanding its power and influence, even when you look backward historically. Look at what used to be the USSR. There is an end to every begging. Germany at some point had to loose. I think God had his own plans.
