Defense of the Ancients

Defense of the Ancients
The grandfather of all MOBAS. The el classico, the original. While not as big as LoL today, it still has a dedicated and loving community that support the game. Also one of the most strategical esports due to its depth.

  • The game that started it all
  • The Internationals has the largest prize-pools in esports history
  • Rapidly-Evolving Meta
  • "Anything can Work"
  • Unique abilities
  • All characters are free
  • Has the best battle-pass/compendium

  • Game depth makes it unfriendly and brutal to new players
  • No marketing at all
  • Some people hate when the metas are rapidly changing
  • Slow gameplay

Powerful Game

I have spent many hours playing the DOTA. And it was one of those games which was worth playing. I'd say if anyone who likes Tower defense and the league type games. I'd surely go for the DOTA. As it tends to be more stronger and engaging game for those who want to play the same.

Dota 1 player here.

More competetive and more balance game if I were to ask. Good for strategy type of people who wants to enjoy and exercise their brain.

I am not a player for this two games but my b brother is very addicted to DOTA. I enjoy watching him play. The effects are great. It's a feast to my eyes.

Same with me.wer since the rise of computer games, DOTA has been there and I have seen my brother play it.

I could still remember those days that I am still playing this game. This is very famous way back then. Now, we are playing MOBA by phone and DOTA was the one who started it. All thanks to thia game, a lot of strategy games were developed.

I am not a fan of either of the two. But, I have known DOTA since I was in my teenage years. It was so popular that every computer shop had people playing it like everyday.

The master

It was the original game actually that actually created the whole genre. I think it's more tailored towards good players where LOL is made so even a starter player can manage against good players.

Of course it's DOTA! More competitive, more players, better gameplay!

I'll go with the OG

Nothing beats the original, the moba that started it all. Started playing DOTA 1 when I was in highschool and got me hooked. I still play it even to this day when I'm in the mood.

Dota 2 for life

I've been playing Dota all my life, and what this game give me is pure excitement, pure enjoyment, the overall game is amazing to me, I have a lot of fun playing this game together with my games, the graphics and effects in this game is way more superior than League of Legends, LOL for me is kind of looks trash, not hating that's just what I see, it looks like that game fits to kids.

MOBAS are fun and exciting to play and it can be really addictive and this two are the biggest MOBAS out there. I never played LOL but I've seen youtube videos of LOL and I played similar MOBAS that where similar to LOL's gameplay. The only reason I chose DOTA is that it is the original MOBA and we need to appreciate it without DOTA MOBA games will not be as popular as they are now. When it comes to gameplay I still prefer DOTA, its in-depth gameplay can be challenging at first but when you mastered it can be quite enjoyable and satisfying.

League of Legends

League of Legends
League of Legends. The biggest MOBA to date. Known to be easier to learn but just as hard to master as Dota. People love the game for its champions, how easy it is to pick-up or play, how quick the games are, or its skillshot-heavy abilities.

  • Easier to learn
  • More playmaking/outplaying opportunities
  • Esports players gain a stable salary
  • Faster gameplay
  • Easy-to-understand and stable meta
  • The biggest MOBA
  • Good marketing campaign

  • Stale meta
  • Strategically shallow compared to Dota
  • Have to pay for characters
  • Lower prize-pools
  • "Spaghetti-code"
  • Many cases of Riot employees abusing their power

I am almost equally just as familiar with both of these games and by that I mean not much at all but between these two I am a bit more knowledgeable with League of Legends as I have also played similar MOBAs and subsequently have gotten to watch a lot of LoL related content along the way. I think the scene here is just a bit bigger and seems a bit more fun and I really enjoy watching some of the esports matches.

My first MOBA

I see there are a lot of DOTA players here but sorry, LoL takes the one for me. I have been playing this since 2012 and until now I am still playing this game. I give great respect to DOTA for it was first before LoL BUT LoL takes my heart for it being my first MOBA game to play and to experience.

DOTA is for me the original and the pioneer of all the MOBA that is becoming famous nowadays. DOTA also have the stable vesion of MOBA.

Not even a Debate, Dota is the best in every aspect, no competition on here, League of Legends is behind Dota, that game is for kids.
Posted by davedaot on 12-06-2018
Haha! It's just basically how my brother would react if DOTA and LOL would be compared. DOTA has built it's legacy. It started from the days when people are still struggling to get an internet connection and a unit for gaming.

First person shooter games are amazing. I am a huge fan of Counter Strike and Dota and I would certainly rank these two above League of Legends any day. You have to experience the beauty of first person shooter games and that can be done only when you play them. The competitive spirit is just awesome and the environment is even more challenging while playing online.

Dota is number one when it comes to MOBAS. The different aspects of the game makes it very realistic and mind bugling. You need more strategy here compared to LoL because of the blind spot, balanced hero and item combinations. Unlike in LoL, you just get into the bush and you are hidden. In Dota, there is a blind spot and it varies in your position with the trees.

I have spent my time with the league of legends. But I had more fun with the DOTA. You have to play the DOTA if you want to enjoy the real tower defense and anything serious worth of gaming. It's fun to play the DOTA if you ask me. The next few updates of DOTA would be fun if they invest into it reasonably.

I have seen my brother play DOTA since we only has one computer back then, and I saw how he enjoyed it more than League of Legends nowadays. You know, the joy and thrill of people back then are priceless since computers were still new and quite unfamiliar.

Indeed. Here in asia, the DOTA and the LOL both are famous. And the DOTA in fact has gained a lot of downloads too. In fact it is something many people played over a period of time. I think its worth playing game such as this. I would say hopefully DOTA 3 comes out.

I am not a gamer but I think both games are very popular now. What I remember is the DOTA or Defense of the Ancients where a team of Filipinos won the world championship that earned them US$1 million. That is big money even if it will be shared by 4 players. What’s important is that they were the first ones to win the championship that their names will go down in history.

Games are running the economy lately in many countries. As many people are playing the DOTA and few other similar new games are being launched. I think it's a good to see that these games are engaging and also making money. It's fun to play them.
Posted by overcast on 12-08-2018
I never played DOTA so I can not relate. I remember my Management teacher, where she said that those who are good in playing DOTA have a potential to be a good Business man. I don't know why she said that.

I have never really been into these games before. But I got into the hype of mobile legends and I could say that it is pretty cool. I was made to know that those kind of games originated from these and were only adapted for mobile gaming. I think that both are great and I really like their graphics. But I like better their mobile counterpart since it is easier and more convenient.

It's definitely LoL who come out on top.

Bear in mind that Defense of the Ancients or DotA is not the same thing as Dota 2. DotA is a mod of Warcraft III developed by Blizzard while Dota 2 is developed by a completely different company called Valve.

From the fact that DotA has worse graphic and is lack of development, online community and eSports, LoL won easily here. The debatable one should be between Dota 2 and LoL.

I have been playing Dota 2 for more than 5 years. It's a very complex game. New players surely have difficult time perfecting the game. What keeps them motivated is The International or TI large prize pool. On the other hand, I have tried a few games of LoL and have to say that it's easier for new players to enter into LoL. At the end of the day, what keeps a game alive is its players. Since LoL has more players and new ones can enter more easily than Dota 2, LoL is the winner for me. Dota 2 could win in the future if it has better tutorial mode and develop a stronger switching cost.
