Yes, I agree that a person has to enroll himself into a well known college in order to obtain the certificate . In this modern world, having complete secondary school level at age 17 years old isn't enough. You have to obtain a diploma of a course that leads to your future. After the diploma which usually takes up 3 years, you need to go for your degree which may take up another 3-4 years depending on the course module. A diploma holder may draw up a salary of $1,800 in Malaysia. A fresh school holder may earn $1,200. A degree holder may earn around $2,400 .

The current market is seeking for experienced and high educational level employees in order to compete with others. A certificate means money now. Without it , you are nothing. Big fish eat the small fishes.

Same with me, it is necessary to have a college education here because that is your passport to a good job. Without college education, the only available jobs for you are the work of laborers because big companies prefer their employees to have a college diploma. I don’t know why that became the standard here but we cannot argue with that because it is not illegal to refuse employment to applicants.

Yeah, I think college gives an experience and level of maturity that employers will love to pick when employing and you won't expect employers to employ just anybody.

Going to college is definitely necessary for certain careers. However, I think many careers are much more suited to a hands on apprenticeship then a college degree. With some occupations, you learn so much more just by being "on the job" working alongside an expert in the field. However, college is an overall great experience and "rite of passage." I think that alone is important, not just the education. We don't have many coming of age or rite of passage type of rituals in our society but I think they really help transition from child to adult. That's why I think college is important.

Yeah that's true, people that don't go to college will not understand the importance of going to college until they have the experience.

It's becoming increasingly more difficult to get a decent job even with a degree. You need advanced degrees or experience now to get a job that pays well, or you need to join a trade. A bachelor's degree is almost no good. It's like it became the equivalency of getting a high school diploma. Some careers do require education, like @Mahshiemonalisa said. College does allow you to get internships to get the experience. However, it's costly and doesn't guarantee a job. As someone who recently graduated from a university but can't find a job, I really feel like I should have picked something like nursing or not gone at all. I have a degree where it's almost impossible to get a job in that field without experience or special training or a higher degree. It was hard enough getting a part-time job and now it feels impossible to get a full time job that pays well enough for me to live alone.

Yeah that's true, some people no longer see jobs or find job easily with a lesser certificate so see how necessary college is because in few years from now I don't think they will want to hire anyone without college experience.

Its Must to join and pass out college as if one is not a graduate then it would be difficult for him/her to get a decent job and just by thinking about the current state of economy we cannot predict what the future has in its store. So its must to join the college Also I feel its the college life that helps a person to be a Good human being because there we interact with a large no. of people and we can learn many things from them and of course from our teachers and seniors as well.

Finding jobs is easier if you're a college graduate. Majority of the high or decent paying companies nowadays requires a college degree, it would be difficult to find a job if you didn't went to college. I have a childhood friend that is very talented, but he's unemployed because he didn't went to college, the companies that he applied to didn't hire him because they prefer a college graduate employee.

Yes, I believe that going to college/university is extremely important as you can’t get very far in terms of income without a degree or certificate. Though it may be expensive paying up front and getting into the college itself, I believe it will pay off after getting a job with your qualification and will be extremely beneficial for those in the long run. Which is why, yes, tertiary education/college is extremely important to attend whether you are old or not.

Many people believe that being college graduate gives you more chances to find a better job.Though nowadays if you master some simple profession like plumber or electrician, you probably would be more lucky to find a reliable and well-paying job. I know many highly-educated people who struggle to find a decent job and I know many non-college graduates who run successful businesses and make nice income without any diplomas.

Yeah that's true, it all ends up in talents and skill because you have to employ what you have acquired in college but any person that can't think of how best to use that college experience needs a government employment or white collar job.

As long as those that matter specially job givers go by the knowledge of the incumbent it is not necessary that one should attend college. But sadly that is not how it works. Even the name of the college is important before considering a prospective candidate. Having said that if they start their own business based on their expertise they will be a successful even if they have not attended college.

I think college is necessary, but not just for educational purposes. Of course, having a college education and obtaining a degree will give you an advantage in future careers. But I think what's more important is going to college can expand your social network. You will meet people from different parts of the world. These people will definitely come in handy in the future when you are looking for work or if you need help with something. If you don't go to college, you lose the opportunity to meet these people -- people that can help you in the future, people who will become your life-long friend. So I think it is necessary to go to college.

So many people leave school and go to college because they don't know what else to do. I know because I was one of them. My parents suggested I did a secretarial course and although it worked out for me I only did it because I didn't know what else to do.

However, even if you don't follow the path that you trained at, having qualifications shows that you are capable of applying yourself and learning something new, so it's not a bad thing. I think an apprenticeship is a great path to follow especially if you can get into a trade that you really want to follow. It's an excellent way to start.

Yes, I agree with everybody that wrote that college is a necessity. It is just how the society works now. If you don't have college or university degree you will have a horrible time trying to find a good paying job.

The employers are more and more demanding. They want the best. The most qualified workers they can find so if two people show up one with no college and on with college it is logical who will get hired.

You always want to increase your chances of getting your ''dream'' job or any job at all. This is why going to college is crucial. It is not a waste of time. The more educated you are, the better are your chances of success!

I do agree. I think that a college education is very important and something that every person should consider when they complete high school. One can never have toone much knowledge. Getting a college education also opens up so many opportunities to get in the line of work that you choose and it have a long, successful career.

There are many places that won't even consider you for employment if you don't have a college degree. To not go to college would be a mistake.

I have found the college education definitely helps. It has known to help on the logic, soft skills and stress handling part. But making use of those college skills take time. And one has to think of using the skills in the work if possible. Lack of skill usage result in thinking that if the college is necessary at all. I think many people don't think of it like that. And that is what makes you wonder if college is good for all. Some people can progress without it but for some it is very much needed.

When I was in college, I was wondering how important college education is. My 3 older brothers were horse jockeys and they were earning so much. Neither of them have entered college. But when I graduated with a degree in industrial engineering, that's when I realized that getting a job with no college degree is like finding a needle in the proverbial hastack. Yes, having a college degree is a necessity if you want to have a good career.

I particularly believe that education is never too much, so I think it's great for a college to get a specialization in some area. I also believe that university education is capable of maturing young people and opening doors to jobs and even to entrepreneurship.

Today, the majority of companies hire only professionals with higher education, so this is basically the reason why we should value higher education.

The best investment that you can ever make is in yourself. While I wouldn't use the term college but you definitely need an education if you plan to become an employee one day. College is a thing, but it doesn't mean to say that it's the end of the line for you without it. Times have changed. But if you ask me, I'd keep an open mind to all options. Times change, and so does the demand. You can spend 4 years working your way to become a nurse but still end up earning less than a butcher who spent only 6 months in training. Be smart.

While I think that college is definitely an incredible tool which can drastically improve your life, I don't believe it is necessary. There are many ways to reach your goals, and college is just one of them. You have to consider what it is you want, and how you plan on getting it. Many people get college degrees and end up being unable to find work. Others instead choose to go to trade schools and learn a trade, which often works out better. Then you have people who just work in retail and are content with that. It's going to vary.

College is an option, not a necessity.

I also think that going to college is an option. But needless to say, it's an important one. There are a lot of students who can't afford to go to college unless they are from those countries who offer free tuitions and stuff. In our country, there are many drop outs and most of them are finding jobs. So if you have an opportunity to go to college, grab it. But if you can find a stable job, do it also. It's all subjective.

Yes, but not necessary to succeed. Going to college is necessary because that way you will always have something to fall back on when all goes down. For me, it's setting a benchmark for yourself. There's going to be a lot of ups and downs when getting a job, but at least you have a diploma to show your employer so you don't have to go to the lowest of lows when the time comes. Aside from that, it's also neat to have a college education when you're taking jobs that are quite advanced/technical.

Yes going to college is definitely important if you want to get a good job. I will always be thankful to my parents for being there to support me both financially and morally. Without them it would have been difficult for me to complete my education. I graduated some years back and I got a good job only because I possess a degree. College education has helped me to develop various skills which I am using everyday at my workplace.

As someone who currently has an Associate's and working on their Bachelor's - going to college is not for everyone, and I don't think I'd want to force someone into college if they don't want to or care to. However, the standard in our society (US) feels like it effectively forces people to go to college who may not otherwise be a good fit for it. I do not necessarily mean that they should be deadbeats - there are other options, such as trade schools, and I know many people simply choose different means of supporting themselves for whatever personal reason they have. I prefer the pursuit of formal, scholarly and technical education myself. Others value different aspects of life more and are content with a lower-wage job because it lets them pursue other things in life that a college-level education can't necessarily provide.

Difficult to answer. It's not necessary to go to college, but what is your reason to avoid college? If the reason is to justify your lazy attitude to studying than you are missing out something. All young folks should go to college, except for cases where there's a strong reason ,but that should mean that the person involved is doing something else with his/her time in other not to be a burden to society later in life. What's most important is that you learn a skill. Some people need to go to college to learn the skill they have a passion for, while others don't necessarily need to.Please always consult with experts before making your decision. In conclusion, you want social prestige? There's a prestige that goes with being a college graduate that cannot be easily eroded for now.

I think it is important to go to college. I think you have more opportunities if you have a college degree although sometimes it might not really seem that way. The job market is changing and it is harder to get a job without some type of degree. However, I realize that having a college degree does not make it a sure thing to get the job you want but I still believe that it can make a difference. Maybe it will not pay off right away but down the road it might be just what you need. It would definitely make it easier to go to college if it was not so expensive and not having the thought of student loans hanging over your head for years to come.

Basic education is very necessary. There is a saying that, education is the best gift giving to a child. The opportunities abound when there is basic or college education. Today, the world leaders including Non governmental organizations are working and implementing schemes that will encourage people to have free education. It is true that not everyone will work with their college degree, but it also gives one the opportunity to understand concepts and gain additional knowledge in the world in general.

As much as i advocate the importance of college education, i would also advise that skill acquisition be adopted and implemented into academic curriculum. With the knowledge acquired from college, people can now advance in any field or industry. Take for instance, today, we hear stories of how some of the world's richest men who never really had college education are successful. But did you know, that they went back to college to pursue advanced education and qualification to harness their skills?

The job market might already be saturated, but as a person, parent or guardian, there's a prestige that comes with being a college graduate especially when you are successful in your field of endeavor.

I totally sustain the fact that it is necessary to go to college, learn well and pay attention to all that teachers teach there. The students need jobs, and they need good pay jobs but for this, they need to have a qualification, a college diploma, and experience. After they will finish their studies they must hire but without a college, they will find a low paid job.

Advanced learning at an early age will offer many advantages. First of all it is important to note that there is a certain psychological aspect to keeping the brain occupied. Even if the subject may not be one which is directly related to what is considered the contributing elements to the existing job market, flexing the brain muscles in the process of learning some new subjects, skills or trade is a definite plus. Also remember there are still instances where new jobs based on newly invented opportunities created by new business ventures are always a possibility. These jobs usually require a certain level of skillset. Having an advance education will serve as a great advantage of securing a position in this aspect.

No.NOT necessary.

Yes, if easily possible, without bankrupting yourselves/your parents.

College,is just one of the many available means to demonstrate your skills.

Companies/Recruiters simply look at college as

  1. a scale of your skills and
  2. 4 year commitment towards a degree, simply tells them you are committed at something. The online courses are catching up with respect to quality and companies are open to hiring you, if you can demonstrate your skill with proof.
If you do not have a college degree, then you have to find a different way to show case your skills, that’s all…..It is possible.

When you pay a lot for college, then it becomes an investment, and you will wait for return…all of your passion, goals , etc.. go out the window. If you pay a lot for college, then all you will think of is how to pay it back…It’s not worth it.

What do you like ? What do you enjoy doing ? What is the nature of your character ? say detail oriented ? logic oriented ?

Depending ,on you, and on the above, choose a profession.Talk to a career counselor, it works.

Understand, liking something is NOT the same as attracted to something.

  1. If it benefits you, to advance your profession to have a college degree and you can obtain it, without bankrupting your parents/yourselves, do it.
  2. If the college degree, teaches you on the job skills , and you have verified that it does, by talking to professionals then do it.
  3. If the college has industry tie ups, or does research in the profession of your interest then do it. Entrepreneurship , farming, plumbing, civil engineering, masonry, small business are ALL jobs, remember that.
Do not do analysis paralysis in choosing a profession . Also do not choose and then keep switching…forever.

Do your best research, seek second opinion, conclude. If necessary, switch after making a choice, no harm.

Go to College,if it applies to you NOT because someone else does.

There are enough self-made millionaires who did not attend college. Yet if you ask them, they all encourage people to attend college if they have the opportunity. Why did Martha Stewart pay for her daughter to go to law school? She had enough business experience and know-how to teach her daughter how to carry on her homemaking empire. If going to college is NOT necessary, the education certainly doesn't put you at a disadvantage.

College education is necessary for certain careers. In a country like ours, it's always an advantage to have a college degree. Most office jobs will require a college degree at the minimum. In some high paying careers, it may not even be enough if one wants to advance. A person with a college degree has both theoretical and practical knowledge because of the training they have to go through for four or five years. It needn't even be expensive if you can qualify for scholarship or attend state universities.
