Do you try on clothes before you purchase them?

My weight doesn't fluctuate a lot so I know for certain what size I wear. All clothing brands are different when it comes to size but I always shop at the same place so there's never really an issue when it comes to how clothes fit me. Also, I'm very lazy. These are all reasons why I don't typically try on clothes in the store. I don't need to.

How about you? Do you insist on trying clothes on before you buy them?

The majority of the time I try my clothes on. I usually try them on because I have a hindering step mother who thinks I can't recognize my size by eye though. I'd actually much rather not try them on, but I don't think it's a bad thing to try them on. Sometimes the eyes deceive you so you have to just put it on to make sure before you have to come and take it back or worse, keep it.

As long as the new clothes are clean then I think it is all right to try them on. What I don’t like to try is when the new clothes looks soiled already that probably was the result of so many trials. One doctor said that we can get a disease from trying on new clothes in the store so we should be careful in doing that. But there are people like me who cannot trust the size of the clothes so I have to try it for size.

My answer is yes. I always try the clothes before i buy them. If you will not try the clothes before to buy them you risk to take them in smaller or bigger size.

I try on clothes often when I buy them, but it really depends on what it is. If it is something I have purchased online, obviously I don't try it on first. Something in a store I generally will try it on. However, I don't try on undergarments, or other things if I really don't have time to do so.

The only thing I don't buy online is clothes because buying from the store is risky enough. If the clothing doesn't fit, you have to ship it back, and it's such a hassle.

I mostly did before, but now I almost always try stuff on. The sizes run so differently. One brand's sizing can be far different from that of another. Different fabrics fit differently too.

I also like to see how things look on me before buying them. Some clothes that look cute on the hanger, don't look good when you get them on, or vice versa. Some clothes will surprise you when you put them on, looking much better than you would have thought.

I always try clothes before I buy it. One of the reasons why I don't buy on street market and buy only on stores is, the former does not have trial rooms and the later has trial rooms. Sometimes when I find a clothing item that I very much want but cannot find the right size, I will buy even if it is over size. I will fit it later.

I always try clothes on before buying. I was in a rush a few times and did the mistake of not trying them on. Then I got home, tried them on and they didn't fit me or the pants were too big/small. It's really annoying when that happens. Even if the shop gives you a refund, you have to go there again and redo all of the buying processes.

To avoid all of this and extra time wasting, I ALWAYS try them on. Even if it's just a cheap t-shirt, it doesn't matter. It is impossible to tell if something will fit you just by looking at it because it largely depends on the way it's sewed together, the material used and how stretchy it is. I rather be safe than sorry.

Absolutely. Trying on clothes at the store will save you the trip to the store later. My mom is constantly going back to the store to get refunds. Even when I buy cheap t-shirts, often in my case, they are too long. It irritates me to no end.
Posted by RedVelvetCupcake2009 on 06-20-2017
Always. This was a lesson learned when I was younger. Ghost Busters was popular that time so I begged my Mom to buy me atleast something related to the trend. She said yes but it must be clothes. I found this cool loking black shirt with the Ghost Buster's logo and I thought that was it, that's my shirt. Took it, gave ito to my Mom, and she paid for it. We got home and eager to try my shirt, i open the bag and as excited as I am, cant wait to put the shirt on. To my surprise, it didn't even fit. Worst my butt got spanked for wasting money. That is the reason why I always try it before I buy it. I mean the clothes.
Posted by Neiltarquin on 06-20-2017
That's for sure! :-)

To this day, I never bought any clothes that I hadn't tried before (I always have to try it). I have to see the product, feel the quality of it and especially (because it's one of the most important aspects for me) see how it fits on my body. Without doing this, I never buy anything.
Posted by WildSpirit on 06-20-2017
I usually buy clothes over the internet because I find it much more practical than buying in stores. But when I go to a store to buy a suit, I always try it, because I just do not like the idea of having to go back to the store just to make a trade. Besides, I like to buy something that I'm sure will look good in my body. So I always try on the clothes I'm going to buy.
Posted by hermessantos on 06-20-2017
No, I usually know what will fit me and take them home to try on properly. The only thing I will try on is a coat or jacket as they are easy to slip on. I hate changing rooms and waiting. The only exception is if I am somewhere that I won't be returning to for example if I see something in a mall on a day out or on holiday. Usually I wouldn't buy, but outlet malls are often such great value I would try on only expensive items.
Posted by Alexa on 06-20-2017
The answer for me is sometimes so I voted yes. It depends what it is. Jeans I always try on but t shirts probably not as I can tell by looking at them whether they will fit. It is better to try on clothes as sometimes a dress that looks good on the hanger doesn't look as good when you try it on and vice versa.
Posted by littlewitch66 on 06-20-2017
I say 'yes' to this because I find that my clothes can later be too loose on me. If I'm trying on jeans, I have to try them on at the store. Jeans are so hard for a girl to buy. You have the buy the right pair that will hug your hips and legs just right.
Posted by RedVelvetCupcake2009 on 06-20-2017
Yes, I will always try out the clothes before I purchase them because my body size may not match of the brands. Some brands size S is equal to size M, so, if I buy without testing it out, it may looked oversize for me. However when I purchase online, I will check on the size measurement first before purchase. Most of the time, I choose size S, which fits me most. If the size does not fit me, I could request for an exchange or refund. No trouble at all. Furthermore, some boutiques do not allow refund or exchange after purchase because the clothes bought were on sale. So better try them out.

Most of the time I do try on clothes before I purchase them. All brands run differently, so I like to see how they fit before I try on. I do some online shopping for my clothes so I am not able to try them on before purchasing them.
Posted by angie828 on 06-20-2017
Yes, because I noticed that although I think a lot of clothes look nice on the rack, once I try them on I realize they don't look so flattering on me. Also, the size I wear usually depends on where I'm shopping (especially for pants) so I need to try it on to make sure it fits well. For this reason, I rarely shop online and mostly shop in physical stores so I can try stuff on before I buy.
Posted by lilac123 on 06-20-2017
Obviously, but when it comes to buying things online, no I don’t try them on because I can’t. I usually don’t have that money and time to buy something which doesn’t fit and either donate it or attempt to return it. I usually test sizes of many different shirts before buying a certain size online as they usually very. But in the end, yes, I mostly test everything before I buy something, even if it’s worth a small amount or not. Especially clothes as there’s no point of donating it or throwing it out after buying it and I don’t find attempting to refund works.

I do my shopping online mostly, therefore I donhave a chance to try on a specific item before buying it. I have to rely on my typical XS size and as a rule, I dont get disappointed, when my cloth arrives.
Posted by RosieCheeks on 06-21-2017
The reason why I am not fond of shopping online for clothes is my idiosyncrasy in trying the clothes for fitting. I had developed that habit when I bought a set of clothes that was ill-fitting to which my friends advised me to try the clothes for size before purchasing. Don't trust the size is my motto. It doesn't matter is the label says Large (my size) but I have to try it to be sure. When we went to Saigon, Vietnam, clothes were cheap so I bought a lot. But in my haste, I forgot to try all the clothes so I end up with some clothes that are not fit to my size.
Posted by Corzhens on 06-21-2017
I ALWAYS try clothes on before I buy them. I feel like it's stupid not to. Some clothes look really nice, but when you put them on you'll realize that it doesn't match you. That's why you have to try them on even when you know your size. Plus some stores have imported products and the size measurements are different. A medium in one country can be different in another. So to be safe, you should always try your clothes on before you buy them.

If I go to a physical outlet store, then yes, I always try my clothes on before I purchase them. Trying on clothes is part of the whole experience of shopping at a store anyway. The art of buying clothes without trying them on is a technique in knowing your body and precise measurements. It's needed in this modern age of shopping online. Personally, I buy clothes online and offline equally. But to clarify, shopping online is the only time I don't try clothes on before buying them. This is when knowing your measurements, along with eyeing up what fits you is key.
Posted by Jonathan Solomon on 06-21-2017
These days I do online shopping. The well established shopping sites have all the measurements for us to see as also the different shades that we can choose from. Very rarely there could be some disappointment. In that case, we can return if we are not satisfied. They will either replace or refund as per our wish. I do not like the idea of going to that dingy room in shops to try clothes. Even if I were to buy off line I will check the size carefully and buy the stuff.
Posted by iamawriter on 06-21-2017
I like to try on clothes before I buy them because even though I know what size that I take off find that different brands of clothes fit differently. I want to know that they are the right fit. I do not like having to return things because it is usually such a hassle. To save all of the i just try them on and I know then and there if it is what I want. It would be so disappointing to find something I really liked and buy it only to bring it home try it on and realize it just did not suit me.

It is not just about fitting right. Sometimes you will put on a certain color or pattern and it just doesn't suit you.
Posted by Sue on 06-21-2017
Most of the time I don't, mostly because I don't enjoy the experience. If it's something particularly expensive, then I'll probably bother with it but otherwise trying it on at home has usually worked out fine for me. In stores, I can usually get an idea on whether or not something may fit or not by checking other aspects of the clothing instead. Online, well... this isn't an option for obvious reasons.
Posted by Linen on 06-21-2017
It depends if I am in a rush to purchase or not. Since the department stores I purchase from allow returns if I am in a rush, I will just purchase and try on at home. If the clothing does not fit, I can go return it later. If I am not in a rush and the line to try on clothes is not long, I will try the clothes on because my size varies depending on brand, product, material. If I am purchasing online, I sometimes buy two sizes if it is a good deal, so I can return it later just encase, or both if it does not work out!

I do try on clothes before buying, I think it's esssential, because I need to know if it looks good on me first beore buying.
Posted by StolenKid on 06-25-2017
I do, it's very important to check if the clothes you want to buy fit you, check if you feel comfortable with it and see how you look. There are some very rare ocassions when I haven't try the clothes but luckily it ends up fitting properly.

This post just made me realize that I've actually never stepped into a dressing room in my entire life. As a kid I didn't really care for trying out clothes as I'd always just convince my mom that it'll fit, and if it's a bit big I didn't really care. Then once I reached my adult years I began ordering all my clothes online and obviously the option of trying out clothes is kind of nonexistent there, until they come up with a teleportation system anyway.
Posted by Denis_P on 06-28-2017
Aside from underwear, I always try on clothes before I buy. Fitting rooms are there for a reason, and that's for us to be able to try on clothes to see if they fit us. Aside from being able to see whether the clothes fit me or not, I also try on clothes to see if I look good wearing it. If the clothes fit but I don't look good in it, I don't buy it.

This is what makes purchasing clothes online such pain. You don't know if the clothes you buy will fit you or if you'll look good in them. Purchasing clothes at a local store is still the best.
Posted by limberg on 08-01-2017
Yes always. It's hard to pay for the clothes without trying them cause you might get disappointed when you got home and try it and realize it doesn't look good on you the way you imagine it to be. It would be a big waste of money or effort if you return it the next day. So instead of feeling miserable just because you did not try it on before purchasing it be sure to properly inspect it and try it.

I can't imagine not trying on clothes before buying them. The sizes are totally different in every store. I have to see first if they fit me because in one store size Small can be okay and in another Medium might be too tight. I try on many clothes before buying the ones that I like and fit me. I imagine that if someone knows the sizes in some store perfectly and they don't worry about it then the person can buy the clothes online instead of going to the store and save some time this way.

I don't mostly buy clothes but I surely need to fit them first before having it purchased whenever I buy from a certain brand's outlet store. I remember though when I first bought my first branded skinny pants, I've tried it several times on the fitting room just to see how I look then bought it. Later on after a month or so, I think my legs and calves gained more muscles because of exercises on the legs as I start running again every morning. My pants turned tight although is still wearable but its kinda hard to move or stretch around until this day as I gained more weight now.

I do for the sake of not wanting to have issues with the sellers.I noticed that when you don't try your clothes on and you get home with it and find out about a problem it becomes very difficult to change it and I definitely don't want that kind of stress, so I prefer to try it on and ascertain it okay before going home with it to avoid issues.

Whenever I shop and like a few clothes, I always try them before buying. There are times when the clothes look really good but may not look good on me when I try to fit it. Sometimes, the fit is not good enough. I always want to make sure that it suits me. I also want to know if it feels comfortable to wear, so I do try the clothes. We are paying so we should really make sure that the clothes we buy are really worth our money. We should try them before buying so we can avoid the hassle of returning the item. It pays to spend a bit of time to try them on before purchasing.
Posted by Krisleen on 10-16-2017
Yes, because not all clothes are the same fit or looks flattering on my body. Fitting the clothes before buying is good because there is no hassle in returning in case you purchased it online. You can also check defects if you are wearing it before buying.
Posted by Scarlet on 01-07-2018
Yes, even though my size doesn't change much, I still think some clothes might look nice when it's displayed, but they doesn't look good when I wear it. I have tried several clothes like that, and hence it's really a must for me to try on the clothes before purchasing them, unless I have no choice. That's why I still haven't start to purchasing clothes online yet, as I don't feel comfortable doing so yet.
Posted by kaka135 on 01-20-2018
If it's just cheap and I can tell it will fit I will not try it on, more or less, especially if I'm in a bit of a hurry to find the next item. However, if I were to spend more on it I'd spend more time making sure it does fit me and I wouldn't regret buying it once I got home. I honestly would prefer not having to fit things because I'm too lazy but sometimes it is necessary. I prefer just being able to see it and size it up that way but sometimes it is not possible and it's really much more preferable to test out the product before taking it home.
Posted by Wubwub on 02-04-2018
No. At this stage in my life I know my proper shirt, sweater, hoodie, jeans, pants sizes. So I don't really need to try on my clothes before I purchase them. Makes shopping online that much more of an option when you know what size you wear in just about everything.
Posted by NickJ on 03-03-2018
I would want to fit my clothes first before buying it. I don't want to spend money on clothes that I will not be able to wear. It is much comfortable if you will the clothes first before paying it to the counter to make sure everything is fit. You can also see if it is good for you or not. Atleast, you will still have a chance to change it by the time you realize it isn't worth it.

I like being able to try things on. When I don’t try things on, there’s such a high potential for things to not fit right and then it’s a pain to go and return them. It’s a lot easier in the long run to just try them on!
