Education cannot solve societal problems.

Education cannot solve societal problems.
The extent to which people rely on education as a Lee way to societal libration, handicap other potential means of obtaining social stability. Ancient kingdoms were able to govern themselves appropriately without contemporary education. Different economies rely on education as their only hope of sustainability, and such illusion has jeopardized the possibility of seeking help from other realizable sources.

The aspect of religion is still relevant in building a sustainable economy, this can be seen clearly in counties like Japan, they hold their religion in esteem and it influences activities within the country.

People who think education would turn the world to heaven on earth, might have to have a rethink, considering how education is gradually engineering the destruction of the world. Should we say education has brought more harm than good, or should we still rely on an aberration yet to be achieved, countless politicians use education as their political bait.

Wrong education is useless education

I agree but only because what they are teaching in schools is not useful in changing the world but mostly just training kids how to grow up to be drones because the ones in control are the ones controlling what is being taught and it is in their best interest to keep the public stupid while still being educated while their kids get the most expensive education and also teachings from their parents who know the secrets and have the riches to control the world either way.

I agree!

Education is useless in my opinion, sue it can get you a decent job. But the simple fact is today's society is way out of control. You have people killing each other left and right and I say its safe to say that everyone is smart enough to know how to kill yet people still do it. What we need are stricter laws to make people think twice about doing something stupid.

I disagree!

I disagree with this statement, education resolves a lot of things not only the societal problems. Education shape our character and our actions, education can help us to have a wealthy life and be appreciated by the people around us!

Education helps

Education about poverty, social unrest etc. can help with social problems. ALso, a better education will help you get a better job so it can help from that aspect as well. I think it is important to all.

Education Solves Recurring Problem

The biggest thing education solves is the recurring problem. You don't have to reinvent the wheel. And that's something is being solved with the educational centers. As you can see education is required to remove barrier for recurring problems. And documented knowledge is something that needs to be taken into consideration. That's what is the role of the education.

Education opens doors and your mind

Education does not only apply to a formal structure, education should take place at home as well. Knowledge is power. People automatically assume that education is reserved for schools. Every day we have the ability to learn something, to educate ourselves and in turn better ourselves. Education is not only about money, the numerous survival videos educate you on how to survive.
Posted by Rhombus on 10-20-2017

The only way.

I strongly disagree with this because I have no doubt that education is the only way to solve this - and many others - types of problems.

Depending on the country, the scenario may not be as beautiful as expected (as is the case of my country), but giving up on education is giving up on the future.

Education helps everything

Education means that people are better qualified, they have better ideas and are more innovative. With good education people can solve many problems, not only societal ones. The progress that happened in the last 100 years happened because of science. People became interested in science because of their education. That's how it works.

Education is important

For me education can solve major societal problems specially when a new generation of intelligent fresh graduate they might come up with new way of solving the problem which can help us a lot. they can discover new kind of way of solving societal problems with there own way of thinking. we should not limit our self of discovering new things to make our life much easier.

Jonathan Solomon
It's interesting because I somewhat agree and disagree at the same time with your article. To begin, education is not the solution to a more stable economy. Nor does it guarantee the increase of jobs within the public and private sectors of employment. Keep in mind, higher learning and education, in general, is valuable when it's matched with direction and a plan post-graduation. Because all education does is increase your knowledge on a particular subject or field. Regarding your part about religion playing a part in the overall sustainability of an economy. I think it should be factored in, but not the main constituent. However, I personally prefer to separate the topics of religion and economics.

I agree that education increases your knowledge and with that increased knowledge, you can do more work. Take for instance the skill of typing. Compared to a person who doesn’t know how to type, a good typist can do more output than the one who doesn’t know how to type fast. But with regards to the problems of the society, I guess education can be of help since the public gets the awareness of what is happening and the possible remedy to the society’s problems.

Education can help solve societal problems if the right people are put in the right positions. The problem societies are facing today is putting the wrong persons in the right places. They won't be able to handle governance the proper way. It's very obvious that people who have what it takes to lead are not given privileges to get to the right positions. People who must hold key positions are people with great potentials and intellectuals. These are people of integrity who are ready to contribute their quotas or sacrifice to the societal needs.

Yup, I second that. In fact, I think that education is the only thing that can solve societal problems. We can arm the police and have it beating criminals 24 hours a day but it serves nothing it the next generations aren't being educated to not commit the same mistakes

I think people who have got success without education underestimate the power of documentation in the educational system. By documenting the education, you can see that it can solve some of the societal problem. And it can add more control over the content. And you avoid time being spent on the societal issues. That's where things are going to change as well. I have learned how to do that in due time. So I do think education is necessary.

Education can actually solve a lot of societal problems if it goes along with religion, that is having the fear of God. Education without knowing God is what is causing a lot of problems in our present day society.
Posted by babyright on 10-18-2017
Education can help solve many problems in society, but we can not place responsibility solely on education. There are many other factors to consider. Here in my country, for example, factors such as political corruption are determinant for having precarious conditions in society. So we can not blame just the lack of education.

Many tend to forget that there's different types of education. There's intellectual which is academic in nature such as mathematics and sciences and then there's social education where children are taught about the culture they're growing up in and the social norms and standards. Then there's other types of education such as how to learn or question things in general. Society is built on education- the teaching of people how to interact with each other with a shared or similar or understandably similar culture. There's lots of social cues and tolerances than can be pushed and pulled in time to actually cause change. Let's take segregation of races in the States for example- it took not only academic education but social education to make changes over time. You had people become politicians to help with changing the law, lawyers who would fight to win cases for discriminated minorities, and the social education of teaching people to stop with the segregation of races because it wasn't doing society as a whole any good. Times change and with it so do views, it all boils down to various types of education that helps that change along. Everything takes time and it's hard to believe that overly racist and segregation policies finally died in 1985 in the the United States. That's a fact.

If you mean education in the form of classroom and teacher, I agree that it cannot solve the problems of society. As I see it, society is governed or dictated by culture. Right now, our culture is manipulated by technology so the young generation are creating more problems for society. Take the case of grammar and spelling, social media is rife with errors but no one has the temerity to correct them. And why so? You will be called Grammar Police as an insult. I dread that day when people couldn’t spell correctly with a rotten grammar.
Posted by Corzhens on 10-19-2017
Real education can solve social problems for sure, and by real I mean the education in general, not just in schools, some things have to be lived to be understood, like homelessness and hunger.
Posted by joey98 on 10-19-2017
Education can help if being used right by the people. When people learn and uses it for good, it can be beneficial to the society but if used wrong then it can cause damage and destruction among the people.
Posted by Scarlet on 10-20-2017
Education is the only tool to solve the societal problem. People are poor because they are not educated when they do not have proper education they can not get a decent paying job. Terrorist activities are carried by people who are not educated. They are made to believe in false ideology, they cannot refuse because they do not have education that will help them understand what is right and what is wrong.
Posted by vinaya on 10-20-2017
Education is the key to solving most of societal problems. It gives people access to decent paying jobs that enable them to support their family and provide for their future and their children's future. Countries whose population have largely remained uneducated are likely to have high crime rates, high unemployment rates, and high poverty rates. I find it a bit of a stretch to inject Japan's sense of religion as the cause for its ability to sustain its economy. The OP seems to be unaware that Japan has one of the most rigorous educational systems in the world where children are expected to pour in several hours studying, doing homework, and attending tutorials everyday.

I don't agree that education as a whole can't solve societal problems but rather college can't. Without an education, you will find yourself hard-pressed to find a job or any kind of occupation. College is definitely overrated since in the US it buries you financially for at least the next 5 years depending on how much you took out for a college loan. With the proper education, you can deal with just about any problem that comes your way as long as you have decent motor skills and common sense.

Systematic problems often cannot be solved with increased education. Systematic issues like keeping certain groups in power or pollution are created by systems. Education helps citizens become aware of the issues but it often takes a critical mass to get the system changed. It is hit or miss throughout history on whether that gets done.
Posted by muaaz.93 on 10-21-2017
Societal problems are mostly caused when one group of people who're WAY past their prime, burned out, bitter and angry look to hold back or stand in the way of those on the proverbial 'come up.' They feel as if their arrival into success was unearned or came by dishonest or suspect means. So they fight tooth and nail to deny these people their hopes and dreams. Of course, they respond by fighting back and fighting for their dreams and overall future. Hence you have 'tensions.'

Definitely Education cannot solved the problems of thus world when the perpetrators of most crime in the world are the educated ones. But I wouldn't say Education is doing more harm,No,it has nothing to do with education but the humans involved. if we should change our mindsets and accommodate fellow humans I think the world will be a better place.

I think education can solve societal problems because we become wiser. The negotiation skills we learn in school and also the different ways of solving problems are very helpful. We need emotional intelligence to be able to understand each other's feelings so we can prevent deeper problems from arising.
Posted by mildredtabitha on 11-17-2017
It can definitely solve societal problems but it's more like a long-term investment. We can't expect education to solve all of the country problems overnight
Posted by Marvadaum on 11-17-2017
Being a book work doesn't mean you're a great help in the society. Sure, education provides knowledge where we learn, but not to acquire wisdom and acknowledge the real meaning of success. Most people who aspire powers are the ones who die for money. Are they a big help in our society? I doubt. What I mean to say is, not everyone who finishes a degree would call themselves as successful, and not everyone who didn't wouldn't say they haven't reached their achievements. I am not saying education is not important, however, it is a leeway for someone to become who he/she would want to be and still depends if it will be used in a good way.
Posted by cess_08 on 01-27-2018
Social problems are affected by many factors but, saying explicitly education doesn't resolve them is rejecting its contribution and it shouldn't be like that. Certainly, when a kid or a young person has his/her mind busy developing new skills or improving them, that person may not be so influenced by external factors and that's already a contribution.
Posted by cubo on 03-29-2018
Education alone cannot solve society problem. Although education has a big contribution in building our children in terms of value, its still not enough. The combination of education, good parenting, economic stature and good governance is what i think is the key to solve society problems.
Posted by fishbate on 04-29-2018
100% disagree. Education is really important. We need to define education. Education is not only from school. The best education, is natural it comes from God and your life experiences. People like Bill gates and Mark Zuckerberg who never graduated from university but build the best innovations mankind has ever seen from vision, trial and error. They got an education from this process and daily they solve problems like communication and marketing. Education solves societies problems in my opinion if it is the right kind of education . Forcing kids to cram textbooks is definitely not going to solve any problems but teaching them to think, might.

Well, I believe that it is an integral part in solving societal problems because we also need experts in fields related to these such as those working in the judiciary and other non government institutions for rehabilitation and psychological treatments for the traumatized. I think there's a lot that where education plays an important role. But I do agree that it's not the sole factor in solving societal problems, a myriad of other roles come into play such as the basic unit of society- the family. Roles of the church and government are also determining factors in our goal to combat and resolve our social problems.
