Ever Read or Write Your Fortune?

Years ago, I did some research on Chinese cultures and traditions. It turns out that the Chinese fortune cookie is NOT Chinese. It's an American tradition. Although there are some who think that the idea for this tradition may have come from the mooncake.

Whether the fortune cookie is authentic Chinese or Chinese-American? We may never know. But most people, especially me, like the idea of reading our fortune. Even if it never happens. It's fun! What I like is that little tiny piece of white paper does not always predict a possible future event. Sometimes it just provides good advice.

Below are 5 fortunes which were not found in a fortune cookie. These fortunes were actually written just for me. I never thought of writing my own fortune. I appreciate each one of them. But if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Number 5.

Which one would be your favorite?

I like the idea of the fortune that says, "You are not afraid of what the future has in store for you. Go Forth." I think it has a comforting and reassuring tone behind it, which I really appreciate. I feel like a lot of people my age (early 20's, fresh college graduates) have a lot of doubts and stress about their future. Will we be able to get a job? Will we ever be able to pay off our student loans? When will we be able to buy our own house? etc. This makes me more comfortable in thinking that I have control over my future.

That is a good thought for a young person because positive thinking has its rewards. I used to read the horoscope in the newspaper that when the prediction is positive I try to believe but when the prediction is negative I will just ignore. For the young and ambitious I guess having a mindset of positive thoughts can help you surmount the odds that life give us. Just be confident with your skills and talents.

I truly have great confidence in whatever I am doing. I recently started a small business and I am confident that my business will grow in the coming years and I will be able to export my products to many countries. There were many plans that I made last year and I am currently working on some of them. The only difficulty that I am having is the lack of funds. I have already made an application to an SME bank in my country and I hope that I get a positive answer from them soon. My aim this year is to improve customer satisfaction and at the same time increase my earnings.

I will choose the second option because with my God given energy i can be able to use it do even those things i never thought it is possible.

Fortune cookies are just for fun. While I do believe in 'fate', I know it can also change according to the choices we make. We all like to think things will be good in the future and that's why it's popular. People like something to look forward to as it gives them hope.

I'll choose Number 2 which says "You can do great things with your energy", I like it because doing great things also means that I'll also have confidence which is number 1, having confidence means that ill also have number 4 which is being not afraid of the future. So if I choose Number 2 I'll also have number 1 and 4. That's 3/5 in my book.

Fortune cookies are just a joke. But as far the astrological predictions go. I do believe them. But still the ultimate happenings is controlled by the GOD. Yes, I have read about my fortune several times in the horoscope but it's always not completely true.

I like this one because it is life-affirming and encouraging. It reminds me that I can go out and work hard to achieve my dreams and goals regardless of the obstacles. I think we all could use life affirmations like that every day, and even if it only comes from a stale cookie, that's still better than getting no encouragement at all, right? I have had times in my life when I was so depressed that I did not want to open my fortune cookie because I did not want any more bad news, but i know that probably reveals that I am much more superstitious than I would like to admit.

The thing is that I feel quite confident about the future and never for once have doubts about the amazing future that I'm going to have. This is the reason I get angry when I see some of my pals not being optimistic about what the future will bring. This is the words that I tell myself every day and have the belief that everything will work out pretty well at the end of the day.

we don't have a tradition of fortune cookies. Even though we have a tradition of fortune reading, we don't write fortune in paper and hide in foods. Based on the options provided above, I will choose #2. I think I can do great things with my energy.

True. Even I don't have the fortune cookies in our tradition. Yet we get to do a lot of things for the fortune there. I think each culture has a way to look into the future. Its just kind of predictable in that context.

I am always skeptical when it comes to fortune telling because I am a religious person and the Bible is explicit about fortune tellers and predictions that they are tools of the devil. So if you believe in fortune tellers you have a tendency to believe in the devil as well. And if you will analyze the predictions, there’s always a graceful exit like if the prediction did not happen there is a reason or alibi given as if the fortune teller cannot make a mistake.

I might not be remembering this correctly, but I recall reading somewhere that the fortune cookie actually originated as a Japanese tradition. Apparently, Japanese immigrants carried over the tradition to America. However, during World War II when Japanese-Americans were persecuted in the United States, Chinese-Americans carried on the tradition of serving fortune cookies in their restaurants. As a result, people became accustomed to the idea of fortune cookies being a Chinese thing. I could be entirely wrong though. Anyway, I like the second fortune. It seems the most energizing and uplifting one to me.

"You are not afraid of what the future has in store for you. Go forth." You define your own future and whatever happens, you are prepared to face it through hardwork and dedication.

I like the one that says that you are not afraid of what the future has in store for you either. This is a positive thing and one that you are almost looking forward to. The future can be scary especially if you have plans you aren't too sure about.

I will choose no 5 because i believe the world would be a better place if we share all that we have with one another. I love to share and that's is who I'm and nothing can change,I pray for more so as to give to others especially those in need.

Number five, I will go with number five, Sharing and not getting back, being kind and treated bad and filled with pain and sorrow, Life has a way of taking every little bit of you, and if you ever going to prosper in life you shouldn't be shaken by situations, you should never allow any situations to change you.

I used to like to read my star in the newspaper. That's the first thing I used to read everyday. However one day when I was in church listening to the sermon the pastor said that anyone who looks at their star is committing a sin and he even showed us a bible verse that says the same thing. I stopped doing this. I know of a friend that goes to get her fortune read every so often. I don't think this is a clever thing to do. If you have an idea in your head something is going to happen and you believe it this becomes a self -fulfilling prophesy.

I am also religious like and as a good Catholic, we should not believe those fortune teller who try to predict the future. I know that it is in the Bible but many people still read their horoscope and worse, they believe in the Feng Shui that is about the arrangement of things that affect our life. Oh well, to each his own when it comes to beliefs and I respect the others for their beliefs. But reading my fortune is already out of my system.

Number 5 best describes me and I like the phrase very much , "Sharing and being fair to others is just part of who you are. Don't ever change". This should be included in the list of "Fortunes" that you can find inside fortune cookies.
Posted by Kakashi2020 on 03-11-2018
I haven't written my own fortune. But I do like fortune cookies. I always looked forward to reading them. It's that special something that makes you feel like the main character in a story. I still buy them whenever it's available.

I found reading fortune from fortune cookies fun, too, when I was younger. Although I know they're not meant to come true, they aren't exactly far-fetch either. For me, No. 2 just describes what I want for myself: You can do great things with your energy. It can actually apply to almost everyone who are not otherwise hampered by physical or mental handicap. It is exactly what I would tell young people who are bursting with energy. They can channel that energy to improve their life and lift their country up. I am using my energy to maximize my potentials and become a blessing to my family and other people.

I've never done this myself and don't know how reliable I think I'd find it! For a bit of fun though, I think it could be good. If I had to choose one fortune from the list, I'd choose You are not afraid of what the future has in store for you. Go forth. I think that's such a nice message, and encourages us not to be fearful of events happening in our lives down the track.

I do believe that we as human not should be scared to what will happen to us in the future. We should always think that as long as we have faith in Him then everything will good to follow. Do good to others and they will do it back your kindness. Always walk in His path and He will never let you down.

Well most of us have consulted an astrologer in the past and many of us might be consulting astrologers actively before taking any major decisions in our life. I had consulted a few astrologers in the past but with time I have lost all my interest in astrology. I think it's better to focus on your own work, try to think over and plan about your own life rather than consulting an astrologer everytime you land up in some sort of a problem. if you are overly dependant on the advice of others for the decisions about your life then you are committing a very big mistake. I keep myself away from Astrology, I don't think it has any use for me.

I have consulted with a lot of people and trying to understand the fortune. But most of the time that I have seen is that it is nothing but loss of life and nothing new comes out. I guess based on experience we have to understand that fortune chasing does not work. And we have to rely on our own instincts most of the time.

Not really. Every time I have Chinese food and am given a fortune cookie, I crack it open just to read my fortune. Most of the time, the fortune is way off base compared to what's currently going on in my life.
