Flip It

Smaller, cheaper, easier to carry, longer batter life, and never getS stolen. What's not to love?

So smaller and more convenient to carry!

I sometimes wonder why smartphones are not as portable and as convenient as flip phones. Yes smartphones are more high tech and with dozens of features and capabilities when compared to flip phones. But flip phones are just great when it comes to fitting in the palm of your hand, carrying around and not taking up space. Sometimes I try to put my smartphone in my pocket, only to remember that those times when it would fit are now gone with these large screens we have with smartphones!

You know what? I love smartphones. Well, because they are "smart". But actually, they're not that smart are they? I mean, you can't really hold an intelligent conversation with them. Sure, you can use Siri, Alexa, Google whatever! But they are all mostly canned responses anyway. However.. I used to love having a flip phone back in the early days of mobile phones. I used to have that Nokia banana slider as well but I have a clear case flip phone once. It was basic as anything and only had a very small LED screen on it no bigger than the one you get on a calculator. But it could make and take calls and send and receive text messages and that was enough for me. I actually miss that little phone. It was so small and compact but it looked really cool. Plus I got an LED antennae for it so it would light up when you was on the phone haha! :D

Flip is practical

I still prefer a flip phone even though I have both. I just find smartphones eat at the battery, and I prefer a physical keypad. There is also the matter to protecting the screen and while I do have a cover, it's cumbersome.

A flip phone is much easier to use and is easier to store in a handbag or pocket.

Smart phones are trendy in the modern world, they are resplendent and come in intelligible designs. When you don't have a smartphone, it's like your out of this world, because you won't be able to follow the ever engaging internet communications. Most smart phones has excellent ability in connecting to the internet, and the experience is actually pleasurable, because you can follow your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram handles efficiently.

Smartphone have incredible video and audio recording abilities, you can produce shot clips with the aid of smartphone. Companies with leading edge in smartphone production implement designs that are water resistant in nature, this implies that you can even swim with your phone and water won't be able to penetrate.

The production of smartphone has taking a prolific turn, because unbelievable features are added to smartphone on daily basis. The camera of most smartphone has cutting edge imaging abilities, you can produce highly detailed images with smartphone cameras.

The price ranges vary, so the probability of buying a smartphone at an affordable price is high, the chances of buying a smartphone with good battery life and basic smartphone requirements is considerably high. You can spice up your day by selecting the appropriate smartphone.

• Has an applaudable internet connectivity. • They are trendy. • Quality video and audio recording ability. • resplendent designs. • Produces highly detailed images.

• The internet connectivity serves as distraction to many youths. • The price of some smartphone is outrageous. • We hardly use 50% of the phones capability.

I use my smartphone mainly to use the internet rather than to make calls and I prefer using messaging apps to contact my friends and family instead of texting, so a flip phone wouldn't really meet my needs. There are so many apps that I can't live without on my smartphone such as social media apps, map apps, weather apps, etc. My smartphone allows me to keep up to date with what's going on on the go, which a flip phone doesn't really allow me to do. Although smartphones are more expensive, their usefulness completely justifies the high prices in my opinion.

The smartphone delivers many apps so you can use them in life, there are games, cooking apps, health apps, there are apps for everything that makes the smartphone a smart inversion.

There's no turning back

I had a Samsung flip phone when I was in college. I was the coolest kid on the block. It had a 1MP camera, could record videos, play Java games, surf the internet, play MP3 music, and so on. It's also very easy to send text messages because of the physical keyboard. Oh, and it was so darn cute when it was closed.

But with the dawn of smartphones, I knew that flip phones were done. There's just no turning back to flip phones because smartphones can do everything that a flip phone can and more! Having a smartphone is like having a computer at the palm of your hands.

Addendum: There are two things that a smartphone can't do! Look cute like a flip phone and have a physical keyboard. But that alone won't make me choose the flip phone over the smartphone.

Smart Phones

As someone who embraces technology, I love my smartphone. I used to have a flip phone when I was much younger, but it wasn't long before the first iPhone came out after that. I like the functionality of a smart phone and all the useful apps and things I have at my disposal on my phone.

Need to know how to get somewhere? I can use my Maps for that. Need to do some research on a random topic? Access to Google Chrome/Safari/what have you. Need to storyboard a scene in your screenplay? There's apps for that.

The new era

Damn, I haven't seen or used a flip phone in.... Forever. I actually can't remember because it has to be over ten years ago.

Ever since the smartphones came out and breaking into the market I have been using them.

They will always be my preferred choice. It is just the part of the technological revolution. It moves and develops new things that you get to experience. We switched from flip phones to smartphones for a reason - they are better in every single way.

Better features, easier to use, hundreds of apps, better optimization, better quality calls, better cameras and so much more.

Smart Phone

Flip phones, for the most part, are already to the point of being irrelevant. Unless you are talking about the newer versions of Flip phones (Which are also smart phones) then smartphones take the cake in every aspect besides durability but new advances with glass screens are closing that gap. Those nine option menus are so dull it makes me want to spoon my eyes out while on a smartphone, the sky is the limit (well, your space is the limit and iOs).
Posted by AlexHarris on 07-06-2017

More Functions

I like flip phones, but there's no competition here.

Smartphones are way better. There's way more functions on a smartphone. You can use the internet, play games, get instant updates, and so much more. Flip phones are too limited and are unsuitable for today's needs. I can't really imagine using a flip phone these days because the functions are so limited.

Posted by kataomoi on 07-07-2017

Why settle for less

Why settle for less with a flip phone? With a smart phone you get a phone, a mini computer and a camera. It's the wisest choice.
Posted by BigDreamer on 07-06-2017

The future

I couldn't choose other than smartphone, right? I'm totally crazy about my iPhone (super addicted). Flip phones are a thing of the past and they no longer have the utility they had before (they were good, but in their time).
Posted by WildSpirit on 07-06-2017

Each device represents a time and a technological evolution. If you asked me 8 years ago, which one I preferred, then I would definitely answer Flip phone. Today, my choice is smartphones and there is not much to justify this. They are more advanced, can be easily connected to the internet and can have applications for almost anything you need.
Posted by hermessantos on 07-06-2017

We live in a new era where Smartphones > Flip P

Flip phones would be ideal for those who are not into internet capabilities, smartphone and want a basic device to receive calls and that is it. Would be ideal for kids to give them so they can be reached encase of an emergency, or the older adults who do not want to fuss with apps/smart phone, charging their phone all the time and do not want to learn because they live in a different generation.

Smartphone is a must for me. Not only is it for pleasure use (social media, talking, watching videos, movies and so forth) but it is a tool for business too. Or earning money. I sell stuff on apps and I need my phone to respond to potential customers and so forth.

Old School But Gotta Go With the Smart Phone

I'm old school and I think a phone should be used for conversation and emergency calls. I'm told people don't really use phones for that reason any more. For this discussion I would be prone to opt for the Flip. However one of the cons is that it does not have Internet access. I've sort of become used to having Internet access. So! Gotta go with smart phone.
Posted by cmoneyspinner on 07-06-2017

Damn those flip phones. Once the flex starts to wear out, your phone will be out of commission soon. Even before, i will try to avoid a flip phone as much as i can because of that simple reason.
Posted by Neiltarquin on 07-06-2017

I prefer smartphone

I have used flip phone. They are likely to damage lot quicker. Also you can see that they can be harder to replace too. It's not worth buying those designs. Even with the touchscreen device on them, I don't prefer them. I prefer to use the smartphone which gives some of the features in that case. I have learned that some good smartphones last much longer than the flip phone due to their sturdy designs.
Posted by overcast on 07-07-2017

Versatility is nice

I would not argue with having or using a flip phone if it were the only phone available to me that I could use (or if other options were simply worse) - my cell phone is specifically my only phone. But I like many of the features of a smartphone. It means I don't have to be tied at home to check my email. If I get lost, I can just look up a map on the spot without needing a specific GPS system. Using the apps on many phones allows for some extra discounts when paying for items, or some general convenience. And, as a good phone should be able to do, I can always call or text someone if I need to. In general, I like how smartphones are robust enough to be used as an overall general communication device (if it's too much, you can always just turn it off).
Posted by Linen on 07-06-2017

The obvious choice

I prefer smartphones. Flip phones were good for their time but they can't do the things that smartphones can nowadays. Nowadays you can download a lot of apps to provide additional features for your phone, a feat you can't do in flip phones as most of them don't have a good appstore.

I love my smartphone !

Actually, I should be just fine with a plain old flip-phone because I seldom use all of the capabilities that the iPhone has. Mostly I only use it to make necessary phone calls, take pictures, and send the occasional text message. However, I do use a lot of the apps, and like that I can check the weather, see how many steps I have taken for the day , and I can even check my heart rate. The Find Friends app shows me where my family is at, and lets them know whether I am home or somewhere else. I also like how the iPhone and my ipad can connect with each other, so when I take a picture, it is automatically on the iPad and I can edit it there using a photo-editing app. I can do all of these things on my phone or the iPad, but most of the things , I use the iPad for because it is larger and easier for me to see.

Well, You can not compare Smartphones with any other kind of phones, everyday they are creating new stuff, and the Flip phone is an old device which can not be compared with a modern device..
Posted by Moaz on 07-21-2017

Smartphones for a smart world!

The fact that technology has helped us so far cannot be over-emphasized. If you want to retain the old flip phones because of how compact they are, there are small smartphones in the market for you from 3.5-inches upwards. You could still enjoy that portability in a smartphone if you want. It's a smart world; smartphones make our work easier! Flips phone can take a seat.
Posted by olaryeankarh on 07-09-2017

Definitely Smartphone

I would definitely choose smartphone because of different things you can do with it. The flip phone can do limited things which you can do also on a smartphone. Smartphone let you browse the internet and do things the same you use the computer. It can also let you play games especially not ordinary games with amazing graphics and uses 3D. Smartphone users can experience high pixel for cameras and videos.

I always envied my friends a flip phone but I didn't have one. Now they seem like something really old. I think they were popular 10 years ago and that's okay. The world is changing and now you can have a smartphone that can do almost everything and is a hundred times more useful than the phones ten years ago.
Posted by felabruno on 09-01-2017

Smartphones are here forever. Flip phones aren't what people want anymore, especially to the younger generations. Smartphones can do a lot that people want. Access the internet, send faster text messages, etc. A personal assistant to be exact.
Posted by tmccoy on 08-24-2017

My vote is for Smartphone.

In this generation, smartphones are in the top. It keeps improving and improving and maybe become more useful someday. Because we are more on technology today, smartphones make our life more easier like the other things. It has a lot of usage that's why I like to have one.
Posted by blank629 on 09-26-2017

SO much more to do

There are just too many advantages to a smartphone that you can do compared to an old phone that I find it difficult to see why anyone could pick the older one. Not only could you make calls and send messages but you could pretty much do most things that you previously would have needed a laptop for. Not only that but the games are way more fun whereas the best game to come out of the flip phone era was just Snake.
Posted by Wubwub on 10-22-2017

Smartphone definitely!

I'm so fond of smartphones, especially it comes with greater specs and bigger screen. I've had flip phones before which is Motorola and I don't like the design and the keypad as well, not only that, flip phones are tended to be easily broken. We should not be comparing flip phones to smartphones as their gap is way far to each other.
Posted by ColdFlameChris on 10-22-2017

Smartphone is trending now. I have used flip phones in the past and it was Samsung flip phone that I actually used but now I'm using Samsung android smartphone - Samsung Galaxy J7.
Posted by Martinsx on 11-04-2018

So much you can do with them

My smartphone is basically like a portable office. I can do so many things via my phone that it's hard to imagine a time when I didn't have one. In saying that, I guess there's something nice about the simplicity of a flip phone - but smartphones still win for me.
Posted by amelia88 on 09-23-2018

I would prefer smartphone definitely as it has a lot more of functions compared to Flip phone. There a wide range of its capability to provide us easiness and connectivity as it has more than just a bluetooth connection. You can use smartphone with your daily life activities and not just for calling and texting. It is also good for mobile games which I really like.
Posted by ajahcuizon on 11-05-2018

I had a flip phone before from SoftBank and I really looked using it. Because of my love for it, I always flip open and close my phone out of my habit. Because of that, the screen's color was affected. It was such a bad experience for me as that was the best phone that I had until Smartphones we're introduced to the market. I'm just very happy that you can do a lot with smartphones.
Posted by theresajane on 11-18-2018

I used to have a flipphone before and it was useful, but it was slow and smartphone has more feature han the flip phone.
Posted by allyn2017 on 11-03-2018

I choose smartphone. I love smartphone. I don't have a flip phone.
Posted by achikeziah on 12-13-2018

I used to have a flip phone but I don't think that I will ever use one again. I prefer my smartphone as there are so many functions available on it when compared to a flip phone. You can easily download games and other applications from the Play Store for your android smartphone. You can also watch videos and movies on the phone. I usually have to travel for a long distance to go to work and I usually travel by the bus. I can enjoy free WiFi while traveling on the bus and this enables me to watch and read my daily news.

I am still seeing some flip phones here although I cannot say if they are of the olden times or brand new. The most common phone now is the smart phone that almost everyone is using except for some who still use the old phone with the texting and voice call only and has no internet facility. For me, I guess I couldn’t use the old style of phones anymore because I am used to my Samsung which is a smart phone not only for text and calls but also for opening my emails.
Posted by Corzhens on 10-25-2018
I have used flip phone and currently I am using a smartphone. Since I am already using a smartphone I will not go back to flip phone, this sounds too retrogressive to me. What ever you did witj your flip phone, you can do it on your smartphone. However, what you do on smartphone, you cannot do it on your flip phone. Flip phones were good, but they are dead now.
Posted by vinaya on 07-06-2017
I had a flip phone that I still own, but I don't use anymore, still works and I gave it to my grandma so she can use it and so far the device works without any issue. I think I got this one over ten years ago and when I found it, I was amazed that it was still working. Nowadays I own a smartphone, I had a couple before this one, and I love it, it's advantageous and practical for many things. I can have almost everything I need to stay connected and informed about news and other stuff. I wish these devices had the same long life as flip phones. Sadly they are useful for just a few years.
Posted by reginafalange on 07-06-2017
Before owning a smartphone I used to dream of owning a flip phone, But honestly now!! There is nothing compare to smartphone really! Though flip phones last longer compared to smartphones plus electricity issues still smartphones rocks buddy :-) So I'll choose Smart phone and again and again.
Posted by Clara1993 on 07-06-2017
There was a time when I admired and adored flip phones. I loved their soft, and classy and elite looks. But today I will go for smart phones only. I love the variety of functions and activities they offer. They are just a concise version of laptops. But I wished that the smartphones were also as light weighted and easy to handle like the flip phones.
Posted by amitkokiladitya on 07-07-2017
I don't know where I really stand here, considering I don't have either a flip phone or a smart phone. Currently I'm using an older Nokia phone that is just a straight up block with a keypad on it. Not the super old ones that would break sidewalk concrete if you drop it from high enough, slightly more modern but still quite old.

Maybe I'm just a stickler for old things but I had a couple of smart phones over the years and I just found them too over crowded with a bunch of useless junk and quite fragile as well. I need a phone that can make calls, send texts, and has a calculator and an alarm clock. I don't need my phone to do my taxes and have a built in can opener.
Posted by Denis_P on 07-07-2017
I use both so I can't actually make a vote. :/ Sorry. But each of them has their own pros and cons. I use smartphone when I am away from my laptop or desktop computer, like when I go somewhere with friends. And when I am at home, I use my flip phone, or the new nokia 3310 phone. Since I can do most of the stuffs that a smartphone can do on my computer, I prefer the "unsmart" phone at home. ;)
Posted by galegatling on 07-07-2017
I'd go for smartphone because flip phones are just so old for me. A smartphone can do everything a flip phone can and so much more. It's an amazing little piece that I can sometimes use in place of the laptop. I can read a book, update friends, work, access my email, or play powerful games with it. I don't even understand why it's being compared to a flip phone because they're obviously poles apart in features and usability like DOS vs. Windows 10.
Posted by chatbox on 07-24-2017
I remember when the cellphone was just new in the market, I loved to buy that flip phone because it looked classy. But my oh my, it was so expensive so I settled for the ordinary phone that has a text function. And when the smart phone came out in the market, I seemed to have lost my liking for the flip phone. It’s now the ordinary smart phone for me which I got used to very well.
Posted by Corzhens on 02-13-2018
Well, it's more convenient to use smartphones. You can use different apps, and access different sites. Not only that, you can take pictures, play games and a lot more. It's really better than flip phones, though I was a fan of flip phones back then.
Posted by theresajane on 11-18-2018
Flip phones are usually basic phones which are good for call and messaging, it's still in use today because it's a great backup phone for your smartphone. It's sturdy and quite useful even with its basic functions.
