Free restaurant bread

Free restaurant bread
Restaurants that offer free bread before your meal include Ruby Tuesday's, Longhorn Steakhouse, Logan's Roadhouse, Outback Steakhouse, the Cheesecake Factory, Red Lobster, and Olive Garden.

Some restaurant breads are very flavorful and have become well-known (Olive Garden's breadsticks, Red Lobster's cheddar bay biscuits).
  • Bread is softer than tortilla chips for people with sensitive teeth.
  • You can dip the bread in an appetizer soup.

  • Bread can get stale.
  • Some breads are flavorless without slathering on butter.
  • It's easier to eat too much bread then it is to eat too many tortilla chips.
  • Bread is a simple carbohydrate made to make you feel hungrier/want to order more food.

Bread will always beat chips

When it come to bread I can hardly think of a meal that it didn't make better. Some can be plain, but it still tastes amazing. You can use bread as a vessel for sauces and drippings, which you cannot do as well with tortilla chips. With chips and salsa, people tend to have a variety of opinions on how they take their salsa. With bread people are pretty unanimous.

I live and breathe for bread!

My child asked me the other day what my favorite food was and I said bread! I eat it almost every day, sometimes multiple times a day. I absolutely love when restaurants give out free bread. My favorites are good Italian bread when it's served with oil and vinegar for dipping and the corn bread and biscuits served at Cracker Barrel. I don't really care for the greasy, cheesy biscuits served free at Red Lobster or the buttery, airy yeast rolls served at most steak restaurants. Give me Italian bread all day!

Homemade bread wins

I think bread is the best here, because chips and salsa aren't suitable for everyone. My dad has dentures and can't really eat them, and children can choke on them.

Homemade bread that is warmed is a nice touch, whereas chips emptied from a pack and put in a bowl isn't really anything special.

I have to go with Homemade bread

Some of the restaurants have the most awesome homemade bread. It is always my favorite part of dinner out. There is one place that has a garlic loaf that is amazing. I go to the restaurant manly for that.

There is another one that is on the higher end scale and it has this almost biscuit like cheese loaf. I found the recipe on line and I have made it many times but it always seems to taste so much better when they make it.

I am not a big chip eater but I do enjoy my fresh bread.

Bread all the way! The restaurants we usually go to all offer the freshly baked homemade kind and it's heavenly. You almost don't want to stop eating it, it is that good.

I am not a huge fan of the free chips because like you've said, they are often stale. I like my chips fresh and crunchy otherwise they lose so much flavor.

Therefore, I vote for bread - as long as it's not the old kind then it's the best choice. Some even make that delicious garlic bread, yum!

Bread wins!

Personally, I love bread before my meal comes! Especially if it's baked fresh. My favorite is a garlic bread loaf with an olive oil dip just before I order.

I will say though if I'm at a Mexican restaurant, I do love chips and salsa as an appetizer. So it does depend on what restaurant I'm at, as well as what I prefer having that day.

Posted by Jonathan Solomon on 06-12-2017

There's nothing like a bowl of freshly baked garlic bread. I'm a fairly greedy person, so I'd choose the bigger portion being bread. You could also save your bread to go along with whatever it is you ordered or just eat it to stop you from going hungry while waiting for your main dish. Chips are good and all, but they honestly don't do much in the way of holding you off since you could have a whole bowl of chips but it wouldn't even be a half of a pound. Chips are for reserved people which I am not. Bread rules!
Posted by AlexHarris on 06-13-2017

I don't even like bread (and I love chips), but I feel like free restaurant bread is better. It'll fill you up more which means you'll end up saving money in the end. Chips are fun to have, but value-wise, I think it's better to get free bread.

There are also times when chips are stale/not made in the restaurant. For free bread, I don't encounter that problem as much since restaurants boast about their free bread. Restaurant bread also comes in different variety whereas chips usually just comes with salsa (or nothing at all). I love it when I get buttery biscuits or garlic bread for free.

love bread

Bread is high in calories and carbs, but it just tastes so good! I love a bread basket. I will not ask for extra bread, but I do tend to eat all of the bread that is offered. I usually share a meal with someone though so I am not eating it all myself.
Posted by kgord on 06-12-2017

Bread is more.. let's say, versatile than chips. You can use it with oil, you can use it with many foods. Chips, as much as I love them, are just.. chips. They don't really belong to restaurants in my opinion.

Bread and Butter

Give me the bread and butter please! I will sometimes choose a restaurant just because they serve good bread! Rolls will do nicely too, but a good fresh loaf of bread on the table is heaven to me!
Posted by BigDreamer on 06-12-2017

Bread Winner!

I prefer Bread, since it's much healthier than chips, and it's better to eat a bread instead of chips before meal. I eat bread with butter before eating my steak. Yum!

Bread-y Goodness

Ok, I am only thinking one thing here -Red Lobster cheddar bay biscuits. Those puppies alone got me voting for bread.

I find chips and salsa just sort of 'meh'. That's easily something I could have any night of the week. I feel unless the tortillas and salsa are exceptional, I rather have some bread and slather it with butter. Chances are you're not going to get stale bread at a restaurant that wants you to dine there again.

Grab a loaf.

I have to go with free bread. This is simply because for one thing I love bread (especially when it's good) and for another, bread is an appropriate food to eat before a meal while chips isn't. Chips for me is a food that I do not associate with meals entirely, they are snack, something I eat while watching television or just when I want to mindlessly shove something down my gullet. Bread is also filling so typically if I have a bit of bread with my meal I end up feeling more satisfied and full by the end of it.
Posted by Denis_P on 06-17-2017

Bread is More Filling Than Chips

I prefer free bread because I will probably stop eating after one or two bread sticks. If you put a bowl of chips on the table I probably won't stop eating even after 2 or more bowls!! Chips are addictive. :)

Breads for the win!

They are usually nice and warm and delicious. They are great to dip in soups or chili or sauce or anything. Chips are good an all, but most chips taste pretty much the same as other chips you can get at the grocery store. Breads are so diverse and unique that you may be served rolls, biscuits, focaccia, bread sticks, garlic knots, artisan bread, etc. Okay, now I'm going to back out of this discussion slowly because I'm currently doing Whole30 and breads are banned for 24 more days, haha!

I love the bread as a companion in any meal, I feel that it can fit perfect in almost all of them, but is more common to see it in the lunches. The garlic bread is very common and delicious, I prefer it before the chips.

I Like The Bread Best

Personally, I like the bread. I really love this little Italian place nearby where they bring out a basket of three different types of bread, and then they pour some olive oil and balsamic vinegar on your plate and add parmesan and spices to it. Then, you dip your bread in and munch away. You have to be careful though, mind you, not to fill up on this delicious complimentary appetizer, because your entrees are coming.

Well, bread is a more nutritive food as a whole and also more fulfilling. In that sense I prefer to have free bread with my meal than free chips for sure

Free restaurant bread

Free is really a good thing to receive and bread is good food compared to chips. Bread is healthier and makes us full unlike chips.
Posted by mark86 on 09-28-2018

Good as appetizers

I prefer bread than chips because it can be incorporated with soup. It is also soft and easy to eat. I love eating bread that's why I also prefer free restaurant bread. Also, it works best for the meal than chips because for me, chips can work better as snacks.

Freshly baked

Fresh bread and with seasoning PLUS being free will always win my heart. Just by eating bread you can easily get full and stuffed. If you were to put butter on it it will make a great snack plus you can even enjoy it as a meal without even paying anything.

I choose for free bread than chips. I like bread than chips. I can be full with it.

Free restaurant chips

Free restaurant chips
Most Mexican restaurants will bring out free tortilla chips and salsa for your table before your meal.

  • Tortilla chips are typically gluten-free.
  • Typically always served warm, an experience you don't normally get eating tortilla chips at home.

  • Chips can get stale.
  • Sometimes the chips are there to tempt you into ordering different dips/salsas for them before your meal.

Free restaurant chips

I definitely love fries and sure enough my choice in this poll are the fries in the place of the bread. I even like to eat breads in restaurants, but I prefer the fries. If I'm on a diet, I certainly can not choose any of the options hahaha.
Posted by Anonymous on 06-12-2017
This is not talking about fries. He means tortilla chips not fries chips! lol :D

The saltiness.

The saltiness of the chips can be extremely pleasing when I eat my chips. The crunch along with the salt creates the perfect texture and taste for eating before a meal. Though eating too many may be filling before eating a meal so it usually depends on my mood and how hungry I am.

I like chips more

I really like chips more then bread and I would like to get it for free instead of free bread. I also love that chips is gluten free which makes it even better for me.
Posted by Anonymous on 06-13-2017

Tortilla chips please!

I can eat bags of Tortilla chips without getting full up! But bread fills me up quickly. I only usually eat bread at the end of the meal. Just to use it to wipe up and eat any excess food or sauce left on the plate. It is possible to eat too many tortilla chips though and ruin your appetite! So it's best not to eat too many of them before you've eaten your actual main order or dinner. But I do really like the fresh tortilla chips they serve. I love it when they come out warm and fresh straight out of the oven. But sometimes you can tell they aren't freshly made in the restaurant and are just bagged tortilla chips that have been reheated in the oven. Still though, it's a nice thing to have while you're waiting for your food to come out. But yeah, just don't eat too many of them else they can really ruin your appetite!

I support chips

Hello Have a wonderful day.

Before meal on any restaurant I love chips and I like to take the chips with more minutes. Chips make me happy when I am available with my friends on restaurant. On my country some times potato chips are free maximum time.

Thanks Centurion

Chips for me

I really wish I did like bread more and I feel it is healthier but I adore chips. I'm not sure if we're talking about crisps or chips because the US call chips fries and crisps are referred to as chips.

It doesn't matter because whichever one it is I prefer it. I like crisps and chips.

Chips and Salsa

Man, I can sit there and eat 3 baskets of chips and salsa. I love this much more than boring, heavy bread.
Posted by JeffHart on 06-12-2017

I love fries and breads, but if I have to choose one of the two, for sure I choose fries. Of course both are not healthy, but a little potato chips does not hurt anyone :)
Posted by hermessantos on 06-12-2017

I like chips more then bread

I would like to eat chips more then bread when I get in to the restaurant. I also like the fact that tortilla is always served warm and it's gluten free. If I had to choose what to get for free, it would definitely be chips.
Posted by Ipa07 on 06-13-2017

Free Chips

I like bread, but I prefer chips. Chips in my opinion is something that is light and will get you ready for your meal. Bread normally fills me up and makes me unable to finish my main course meal. I do like the different types of bread that is served at restaurants, but I would rather eat bread at home as a snack.
Posted by Jimmy38 on 06-12-2017

Chips and maybe some chili and salsa

As I've said, I'd go for chips with some chili and salsa any day. We used to go to Chili's a lot and they would offer us chips with salsa and it just tasted so good. I like bread, but I think it just makes me half full before I even eat my actual meal.
Posted by arachnophobik on 07-02-2017

my favorite

I am not that into bread and I'm a big fan of chips so I definitely would prefer this over bread. I admit sometimes I'm more in the mood for bread but that's a little less often than I would go for chips so in general I think it's much better for me to just pick this one since I will probably favor this more often than I would bread. If the meal I'm about to have is more appropriate for bread then I would pick it but I like chips a lot more in general.

I'm for Nachos

I've been in Mexican restaurants which serves free Nachos with toppings and dips for appetizers while waiting for our order, and I like eating there a lot. I think it's a good way of attracting customers. I like eating in a place which serves free appetizers. And having free tortillas or nachos is also good to keep the kids busy.

It depends on the food environment I go to.

I do love bread, but the complimentary bread and butter or spread can make me filled right up already. I am unhappy if I receive old bread, or staled. For chips, it is good finger food and I do not get as full.
Posted by simplym on 06-12-2017
I also like chips but most of the times I appreciate the bread that goes with butter. In one restaurant where we eat steak, the bread is special and it is heated before being served to the customer. With the butter, the bread is so good that most customers would be asking for a refill of the plate for more bread. When the steak arrives, the customer is almost full with the bread.
Posted by Corzhens on 11-08-2018
You know I gotta go with the chips, but sometimes they don't give you any dip with the chips, so there you sit getting thirsty waiting for your drink. No dip with chips is like butter with no bread, so I'm partial to either one as long as you have dip or butter with the chips or bread. But, I still prefer the chips, maybe some popcorn too.
Posted by Anonymous on 06-12-2017
I would prefer the complimentary bread instead of the chips. Usually most restaurants have good quality delicious unique breads that they serve with a butter spread I would prefer the bread instead, because I can buy chips myself at any store. When I go out to restaurants its a treat so I just except the best.
Posted by lyudmilka78 on 06-12-2017
It depends on my mood and hunger level. If In am hungry, I will chose a restaurant that offers free bread and if I am in fun mood I will choose chips. By the way I love both, chips and bread when ever it is offered in a restaurant I always make sure to visit the restaurant where I get complimentary food and drinks.m .
Posted by vinaya on 06-13-2017
Fresh herby bread is really nice before a meal, or even with a bowl of freshly made home made soup. I am not overkeen on Mexican food so I would choose to have a free bread roll rather than tortilla chips.

Bread should be fresh, as so should the tortilla chips be fresh. Tortilla chips can go stale quickly and then they go soft rather than crispy. Bread should be delivered daily to restaurants to ensure its freshness. Fresh bread goes nicely with a little butter and home made soup.
Posted by JMS on 06-13-2017
I prefer the tortilla chips to bread. Bread can be so filling and thus I might not be able to enjoy my meal. If I go to a restaurant with my friends then tortilla chips would be the best things to have while we catch up about things. I also prefer the taste of tortilla chips. Here in my country we have different flavors of tortilla chips available and so we can choose which one we want.

I can't trade a fresh bread from restaurants such as cookies and crunchies here in Nigeria for anything. The taste is always quite tempting for you always want to eat it immediately you bought t.
Posted by Barida on 09-14-2017
I will go for my yummy bread, soft and fluffy.I can't stay a day without eating bread. It a good tonic for me.So I wouldn't mind having t before any meal.

Our favorite steak house La Copa near the airport serves free bread and a small tub of butter for an appetizer. The bread is one of its kind because it is so good that sometimes I would be eating too many and I couldn’t finish my steak anymore. The restaurant attendant said that their bread is specially made for their restaurant and they wouldn’t divulge the name of the bakeshop. But I’m sure it’s a pretty good bakeshop in order to bake something that delicious.
