Fresh Tomatoes!

Fresh tomatoes is healthier than in cans. Tinned cans have preservatives that can risk a person's health so fresh tomatoes is better. Even other fruits like juice in cans contains high content sugar and other preservatives so it's better if you buy fresh tomatoes.

Fresh!

The fresher the healthier! Fresh tomatoes are definitely better than those in tins. This is obvious since those in tins would have to undergo a chemical processed and has to be preserved. Unlike fresh tomatoes, you can use it upon buying it. You can see that it is still intact and fresh. Also, those that are in tins are leftover tomatoes.

FRESH

Fresh tomatoes will always be great. Though tomatoes in tin cans are very common for dishes and pastas, I still think fresh tomatoes are better. Here in our country, tomatoes are different, but I still love them for they add a certain flavor to the dishes that I cook.

I prefer eating fresh tomatoes than the canned alternative. I feel that the nutrients in the tomatoes diminish as they go through the process of being put in cans.

Nothing beats the fresh

Nothing beats the fresh vegetables. Everyone is striving to get the freshest of the ingredients they need. I believe you don't need to be a college graduate to answer this question. However, people may choose processed tomatoes if they don't have any option or that's what they really need.

I'm so fresh!

Fresh and organic tomatoes are the way. If you can avoid preservatives then do it and its not like tomatoes are hard to take care of. We have tomatoes in our backyard, not a lot but still great to know that you are eating something that is from the land that didn't involve buying.

Fresh tomatoes

Fresh tomatoes versus tin tomatoes which would I prefer? both are great in their own right and they do have their own use, but if I would only pick one I would definitely go with fresh tomatoes simply because I love its natural taste and it is more healthy because it has no preservatives added.

I agree

Anything fresh is always better than its canned alternative. It is natural and free of preservatives which cannot be said about the canned tomato. With fresh tomato, you are sure of exactly what you are putting into your body and all the nutritional components are intact. The process of canning and preserving tomato leads to the loss of some of its nutrients. I vote fresh tomato all the way.

Definitely fresh

You never know how long tinned tomatoes have been stored for and although preservatives are used, they can never be as healthy as the fresh alternative.

Also preservatives can be bad for our health. For example, Sulfites are used to stop the browning and discoloration of food, but have been linked to an asthma-related sensitivity and allergy in some cases.

Fresh ones!

Fresh ones are more natural and they do not have many preservatives that tin tomatoes do have. Preservatives can be really dangerous for people and even for animals who live where the tomatoes grow! Also, fresh tomatoes are more delicious than tin ones. And also, they are more healthy!

Convenient and I'm Lazy!

Why should make tomato sauce when I can buy a small tin of quality sauce for 50 cents? Why should make my own spaghetti sauce when I can buy a tin of quality sauce for 99 cents? The only time I use fresh tomatoes is in a salad. I use it in cooking if I'm trying to use up some tomatoes before they spoil.

Delicious

I just got used in having canned tomato sauce in my pizza, spaghetti or any other dishes that requires tomato in it. I have tasted fresh tomato but I did not like the taste so I prefer to use tomato sauce in can really.

I'm lazy

If you're like me who's always on a rush to accomplish things, canned tomatoes are my preferred choice. Of course, this will depend on the recipe, there are a few where you need raw sliced tomatoes but if what's needed is in liquid form - canned is the way to go.

Tinned tomatoes are great

Yes fresh tomatoes are nice, especially if they really are fresh and haven’t been mass grown and kept in a chilled store for six weeks.

But tinned tomatoes are a pantry staple. They are the starting point for so many dishes. There aren’t many tinned products that are essential, but tinned tomatoes, like tinned tuna and tinned coconut milk mean you’ll never go hungry.

Fresh tomatoes are always tastier and more delicious. Using preservatives to enhance their lifetime is not a good idea and naturally available tomatoes would have more vitamins and minerals in them. Always prefer vegetable brought from the market rather than stored ones to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The juicier the better. WE have something prepared in the form of a salad by the mixing of tomatoes and onions with pepper to eat grilled meat with which is always sweet with some freshly ripened tomatoes.

I think that both variants can have their benefits. For example, fresh tomatoes are absolutely essential for placing in salads and using them in sandwiches. There is just no chance you can include tin tomatoes in either situation.

That being said, I find that tin tomatoes are the better option for cooking. Canned tomatoes already have the appropriate consistency for soups, stews, and sauces, making them much more convenient to work with. Fresh tomatoes require many more steps and time when cooking with them.

Exactly, I make my choice based on the dish I'm going to cook. You can't make tomato juice with canned tomatoes, and you can't make a salad either. But honestly, in my opinion, canned tomatoes are good for pasta and pizzas, they cook quickly, they're already pre cooked, and that helps me get dinner and lunch ready way more faster.
Posted by ballyhara on 12-14-2018

Exactly my point! You need to find some very fresh tomatoes and if possible directly from the garden when the juices are still prime which will make the meal even sweeter and not boring due to a lathy taste.

Obviously, fresh tomatoes are healthier than the ones you buy from a tin, but unfortunately it takes so long to prepare them. Honestly, whenever I'm in a rush, I rather use tin tomatoes, and I leave the fresh ones for the weekend, when I can dedicate more time to cook. Also, at least around here is cheaper to buy tin tomatoes than organic/fresh ones.

Like what TPAM said, it depends on the recipe that you're about to do. If you're making hamburgers, sliced tomatoes are the choice. For stews, it's canned ones.

Imagine trying to grind fresh tomatoes to use for cooking. It might take yourself a lifetime.

Yes, preservatives are not great for our health and it is best to avoid them as much as we can but there are also beneficial uses for it like for pharmaceutical drugs. In the world that we lived in today it is hard to avoid them but if we can moderate our intake of them I think it is fine.

Last year we had a visitor from London who gave us a couple of cans with whole tomatoes. When she left we were wondering what to do with the canned tomatoes because fresh tomato is, of course, better than the preserved tomatoes in can. I voted for fresh tomatoes and believe that you should always go for fresh produce IF you can but there will be times when canned tomatoes will be beneficial specially when you are in a hurry. I watched a how does it grow episode and it said the "fresh" tomatoes are picked green and they ripen during transit. Canned tomatoes are ripened on the vine and then shipped down the road to the processing plant. So often canned tomatoes have way more flavor then fresh.
