Transparency

I had bought a 6 foot transparent glass dinning table at a furniture warehouse sale for a cheap price. It is classic, clear, see through and wide enough to place lots of food during dinner.

Although some of us might not like it because it is transparent, I could see who is shaking his / her legs, whether they are fighting or playing with their feet while not concentrating on eating their meals or doing homework.

On special occasion, I place a dinning table cloth over it, so that it would not disturb my guests when dinning, seeing through the legs underneath. Overall, it is easier to clean glass dinning table, no scratches and tampered glass.

So beautiful

Honestly my preference is purely based on how the table looks. The both function well and I find that glass tables suit my personal style better. In a household with careful adults and no children there isn't too much of a risk of the table breaking.

Wood for me

As much as a glass table looks classic and appealing, I think it's only best suited for office work and not home usage. Personally, I love glass table but there are things that I consider that makes me shift my preference towards wooden table.

On safety note is the first reason for my choosing wooden table glass ones. Glass appears cool and classy but it brakes and as such pose a huge threat if one has kids at home. It's a known fact that kids can be rough and stubborn, so having a glass table in the house doesn't seem to be a good idea.

Wooden table when looked at closely isn't that bad of choice, if you happen to see any expert in wood carving profession you can literally have your dinning wooden table engraved with some quality carving that would even make it more fancy and appealing than a glass table.

Beautiful and stable!

I have been a long time ''fan'' of the wooden dining tables. Not just the dining tables but also the wooden furniture in general.

I never saw the appeal of using a glass dining table because they're so extremely heavy, expensive and they can break before you even realize.

With the wooden table, you can do almost anything and there's almost no way of breaking it... even if you throw something heavy on it. You can easily find many different designs that fit your overall dining room style. We have been using wooden tables exclusively for years.

Wood Works!

Perhaps it is engraved within our psychi from our older folks but wooden tables appear to be more appealing as a dining table. I tend to think that the glass table is designed for more casual settings like an informal meet with friends sharing snacks and board games. Even in the movies where those great knights gather to discuss trials and triumphs we would observe the wooden table as a symbol of great gatherings.

Glass makes me nervous

I prefer a sturdy wooden table because it's reliable. With glass it can easy get scratched and smashed, plus you get smear marks and fingerprints all the time.

Wood is easier to clean, but is also more practical if you need to move it or put it in storage as well. With glass you have to put bubble wrap everywhere and it's really hard work to look after.

For Matching Reasons

At the moment, I think I would prefer a wooden dining set because my floors and other structures in my dining room are wooden, so I don't think a glass table would be as nice in there. I like the look of glass tables, but I feel like I have to clean them constantly. I have a glass 3-piece table set in my living room, and my cats like to walk all over them when I'm not around, leaving little paw prints all over them. So of course I have to wipe them down as often as possible.

wood is harder to break

I prefer wood as it's harder to break, but my wife likes a glass table, but since we have children I'm not sure how long the glass would last in our house, and I do like the design of glass but in the end wood is just a bit safer for us.

Glass table are... ugly. I don't even know why: some people might find them fancy, or rich-looking, but I don't see any purpose in having a fragile horrible glass table. Wodden table, on the other hands, looks much better and are less fragile! Plus, wood is even easier to clean than glass! Wooden tables for me!

I would not like a glass table. It would show too many fingerprints and look dirty all the time. I like a wood table and will always use a wood table.

Classic.

Call me old fashioned but I feel like a dining room table shouldn't be made out of anything besides wood. To make it out of glass is just far too sketchy, in my opinion. For one thing, not every company is going to hold their tables to the same standards. People have reported that their glass tables have spontaneously shattered without anyone around, simply due to poor manufacturing. I have a glass table on my patio and I'm always worried that it's going to shatter. In my opinion, the only tables that could have glass are small coffee tables.

Scared of Glass

I watched too many movies. I've seen too many scenes where a person falls or is thrown from a high place and lands on a glass table. The table shatters into pieces and those sharp pieces of glass can become just like daggers and stabs the person. Oh no! Glass tables are not for me. Give me a wooden table.

Strong

I have found that wooden is lot stronger. And you can keep it for longer time than the glass table. So it comes down to how you are managing the table. That being said, some may afford the glass table and that can work good way for them too.

Wooden for me

The first reason is durability. I have had my wooden dining table for more that 8 years. We also have a glass table and we must always be very careful when using it. I always have to supervise the kids when they are playing near that table. Secondly, I like wooden things. I have lots of wooden decorations in my home too and I think that wood adds to the beauty of a house.

Wooden dining tables

I have a glass dining table at the moment because the wood table is too expensive. The glass dining table was in trend in the last years but now the wood table is on top, it looks classical and old and this brings beauty to our living room. I hope I will have the chance to change my table in a wood one very soon!

Wood for me.

I'm practical and natural, I think that for this reason I prefer the classic wooden tables and chairs, to a glass dining set, I feel that, for a start, this style is transformed from elegant, and is not something that looks comfortable inside a normal house, it's fine to eat in a restaurant that has a glass table, only there looks good. I stick with the traditional.

Aesthetically pleasant.

I won't deny glass table's beauty, that'd be silly, but according to my living space and my current aesthetic choices, I have to pick wooden dining tables.

They are elegant in a vintage way, and are lovely classics that never go out of fashion, not to mention they last for as long as you need them to.

Not to mention they match the decoration of my house much more!

I've never been a fan of glass tables, I always feel like they can break easily and having pieces of glass everywhere is very dangerous. Wooden tables look stable and there are many designs you can choose from, wooden tables can be minimalistic or vintage and there are many kinds of wood they can be made of.

Practical, durable and full of character

Absolutely no hesitation on this one - always solid wood for me - as apart from the fact that its way, way more durable - particularly as its likely to last for hundreds of years - as well as definitely much more practical than glass - the latter of which is like a magnet to all kinds of marks and dirt - but nothing quite beats the texture and character of solid wood - especially as each piece of furniture - even if the wood comes from the same tree - always has its own unique texture and color hues.

Wooden For Me

I prefer the rustic look of wooden dining tables and picnic tables over the glass table look. Plus, i find that I am always running into glass tables when they are around, especially if they are rectangular and have corners, and that is pretty painful. I also like a good finish on a wooden table and the character that a wooden table has as a fine, aged piece of furniture.

I prefer wooden tables better. More stable, more durable, cheaper and cost effective. The only benefit that glass tables bring are style but that depends on the taste also.

Durability

I really believe that wooden tables are very sturdy especially if it is made from hard wood. They would last for years of use and could still be repaired if damaged. I would not want glass material for dining tables since there is always the chance of breaking it. If it gets scratched then the whole elegant look of it is ruined right away. I think it is not practical to use that it can break because of heavy objects.

Wooden Table Would Make Perfect

I definitely prefer wooden furniture in my home, which absolutely includes my dining table. I'm sure I can attribute my love for wood furniture to my parents' antiques obsession when I was growing up. Pretty well all the furniture in my home when I was a kid was antique furniture. Lucky for me, my parents also believed in "living" in our home, so even though our furniture was valuable and collectible, it wasn't regarded like a museum piece that we weren't allowed to touch. We had this fabulous antique dining table that was a large and round, made of oak. It had a pedestal base and that had four large lion claw paws coming out as the legs. I always loved that table! We had dinners there and did lots of craft projects at the table. I still have the table, but unfortunately it's in pieces because the screws to attach the top to the base have long been lost and I have not yet found a replacement. The table is full of loving nicks and scratches from hundreds of years of use. I hope to one day put it back together and continue many years of meals and projects at that table.

Glass is too fragile!

I am an extremely clumsy person, and I would not trust myself around a glass table. I also wouldn't want any kids to be able to climb on it, and possibly break it. Wooden tables look much more stylish, they are way more solid, and they seem to get less dirty! Glass tables can get smudged fingerprints so easily. When I sit down to eat my dinner the last thing I want to put my plate on is a table that looks filthy!

It's a hit.

Wooden dining table is the best option mainly because is more strength and durability (it's something that can last for much longer than we think). Not to mention the fact that it's more beautiful and usually matches more easily with many types of different places.

I have a glass dining table and it's awful

I have a glass dining table and most other houses I go to with either friends or relatives most of them also have glass tables too and while they are fine enough to serve the purpose there are small things that make them less favorable for me. For one, if it's hot and you sweat a little, your arms will create moisture and stick to the table and it's uncomfortable. Also, if you drop anything heavy, you feel like the glass is going to break and even if it doesn't the noise is awful.

I prefer a wood table versus a glass one. I feel that the wood tables are sturdier and I would be worried that the glass table would break too easy. Wood seems to be a warmer texture in a room and makes it a little cozier than glass. Of course, some glass tables are very pretty and they can make your room look more modern in style. I still like a nice sturdy wood table though.

You are right that glass tables are pretty but they belong to the elegant homes. If we live in a simple house then the wooden table is more appropriate because it matches the quality or level of our home. The glass dining table is fragile and it is a big regret if it gets broken. At least the wooden dining table that we are using right now is more than 10 years old and will last for another decade or so.

I actually like both aspects of a glass dinning table feels more modern, minimalist, simple and I like the sturdy wood, durability, rustic feel. I have both in our household. The living room has a glass table where our dinner table (an everyday table) for the kitchen is wood.

Both are kind of cool and it depends on who uses it. Some people prefer glass tables because it's more elegant or it probably suits their lifestyle. While other people prefer to have the wood one because of the classical and native feels that it gives. If you have a lot of kids in your house though, I'd suggest you use the wood one. :p

I prefer the wooden dining table. My home has a wooden dining table which is sturdier. I think that glass tables are prone to scratches especially when you have kids in your home. Wooden tables for me. Glass table look beautiful but it seems it won't last too long. My cousin break their glass table when she's trying to move it when she was cleaning. Wooden table are more sturdy and you won't be bother that it will break when you move them around. I like a wooden table with curvings and intricate designs with it. A good wooden tables can last for hundred years which can be inherit by your children's.

The glass is very fragile material, which can also create the danger for small children. While running the child can seriously get hurt because of sharp angles or by pushing it accidentally, and get hurt by glass fragments. So if you have children at home, beware of glass dining sets. Second, it is reliability and life expectancy. Wooden things are always more sturdy and reliable than glass ones. Last it is a classic cosy design which can be recreated only with wooden objects, rather than glass ones which look more urbanized and cold.

I had a gladden dining room table one time and even though it looked elegant and beautiful I hated how everything would clink when it hit the glass. It always made me feel nervous and I was always worried about breaking or cracking it. I was glad when I finally replaced it with a nice wooden one. The wooden one was more suitable and it was sturdy so I had no worries about it breaking or cracking. I would never own another glass table.

Wood has so much more character than glass. Glass is modern and gives a chic clean look but wood makes you feel at home. When wood is polished the aroma of the wax lingers for days whereas the cleaning stuff for glass only lasts for a short time. Glass would also show up the dust quicker than glass. So it's wood for me!

In aesthetic aspect, the glass table's elegance cannot be matched by the wooden one. On the other hand, the wooden table with an antique design has a different kind of appeal. But I would choose tge wooden table for our house. When my favorite nephew was 4 years old, he was so happy when I dropped by their house. In his excitement, he was playing in front of me to get my attention. And then he lost his footing and the back of his head hit the corner of the glass table. It needed some stitches. That accident made me turned off with the glass table.

Everyone I know for the most part chooses wooden dining tables in this comparison. However, I like both! Yes, glass can be a little riskier regarding scratches and actual breakage. But it also provides a sense of grace, delicacy, and class combined with a nice cloth to go on top. When it comes to wooden though, you can't go wrong for the most part. With wood, you can also either dress it up with a fresh shellac coat or keep it rustic. So it depends on what type of home it is and how you want your dining room to be.

The wooden table is usually more attractive than a glass type and the wood would most likely be safer than the glass. If there be a mishap with either of the two types, the glass would be more likely to cause injury or harm to persons that around at the time. The glass, I believe, is less limited to design options when compared to the wood.

I actually like a glass table. However, in a house where there are children, it isn't practical. It is in the first place hazardous to small children and for adults, we have to be extra careful in sitting by the table or putting too much weight on it because we might break it. But with wood, which is by itself sturdy, we can readily sit without being worried that it can be broken when we handled the table too heavily. It can be with us for a long time and can be just varnished when the wood gets a bit scratched.

What we do have in our home is a wooden dining table with a glass on top of it. The wooden table is just a support for the glass so it won't break. The Top Glass is the same as the wooden glass that we have at the bottom of it. Glass is easier to clean and it makes elegance to the design while the bottom wooden table is to make it sturdy and perfectly balance that can withstand and support any weight that you put on the glass part.
