Grizzly bear

Grizzly bear
If you go walking into the woods in the central area of the USA you can encounter a lot of different animals, including some bears. There are various kind of species of this wonderful creature, the most famous being probably the brown bear, better known as grizzly.

Grizzlies are one of the biggest, most famous and popular species of bears. You can easily recognize one if you ever meet him: a big huge bear a particular hump on his shoulders, and a fur completely... well, grizzled! Like I said, grizzly bears are extremely big and their weight can even go up to 230 kg! Pretty huge, and this is one of the reason that make them actually pretty scary. It's not even a quiet and nice animal, grizzly bears can get extremely aggressive in various cases, like if you are in their territory, or if you get too close to some cubs. Most people also often feed bears, making them trust humans too much and getting way too close... a very dangerous situation, for both the bears and the humans.

But we shouldn't consider grizzlies just dangerous creatures: they are pretty cool and majestic, if saw from a safety distance. Like I said, you can see them around the central area of the USa, and expecially in the famous Yellowstone Park - they are basically the symbol of the park. The name Yellowstone maybe make you think about a pretty famous bear, Yogi, which according to the official words of his creator is indeed a grizzly bear, altough a bit smaller than usual. Another famous bear appears in the Disney movie Brother Bear: the little Koda is a grizzly bear, and the protagonist of the movie get turned indeed into a grizzly. If you are more into culture, there is a interesting documentary that you could watch if you are interested in those creatures. The first one is Grizzly Man, by Werner Herzog: it's about a researcher, Timothy Treadwell, that spend many years alongside bears, studying them and actually feeling like one of them. Eventually he got actually killed in a bear attack, sadly.

In any case, grizzly or brown bears are one of the most popular animals of the planet.

  • Big and massive
  • A pretty grizzled fur
  • Can eat almost anything, from plants to animals
  • They can live pretty long, around 20-25 years

  • Can get very aggressive
  • One of the most territorial animals
  • Most of the time is a solitary animal, not loving living in a group
  • They are becoming rarer every year

I like brown

The brown color of the grizzly bear makes it a winner for me. I think that brown is the ideal color for bears. I know that grizzly bears are dangerous, but ever since I watched the movie Brother Bear by Disney, I kinda learned to love these types of bears. When I look at grizzly bears, I see something that is cute and cuddly. Not something that is scary and dangerous.

Brown color

They are both really amazing and yet scary animals but I have seen the grizzly bear in a zoo. I can't even express how huge these bears are.

I can't imagine how scary it must be if you are face-to-face with this guy. I wouldn't know what the hell to do.

I also love the brown color of their furs and have a ton of respect for them.

Grizzly If You Ask Me

These are truly amazing, and at times, terrifying animals. Polar bears are incredibly formidable, but it seems that, to me, being in North America (I guess) that the grizzlies are much more common and can just come out of nowhere on you while you are camping or hiking in the woods. Seeing as how I won't be vacationing on the North Pole anytime soon, the Grizzly is more of an imminent thread. I can imagine one standing on its hind legs and hovering over me in anger. I would really hate for THAT to be the last thing that I see on this earth. They have been portrayed in many films as incredible predators and territorial beasts.

Grizzly bear

I definitely like ( and respect ) grizzly bears more. They are more aggressive and dangerous, despite being generally smaller. I've seen one grizzly chase off a group of polar bears from an animal carrion. They are definitely the ultimate bears as far as I'm concerned.

Polar bear

Polar bear
There is a saying about bears: if it's brown, lay down. If it's black, fight back. If it's white, goodnight. Also, local people of the polar bear habitat say that once you see one he already decided to eat you, after stalking you for hours. On ice and snow, there is no chance to escape. What you have in front of you is the biggest carnivorous animal on land, a force of nature that must survive everyday in a extremely hostile environment, where every other creature have a lot of strenght. After all think about the animals that live in the artic zones: they are big and strong, having to survive in the least friendly place on Earth. Polar bears must fight everyday against the cold and against their food: they can't just go to a walrus and eat it. The walrus will fight back! Maybe a seal, the corpse of a whale, fish, or foxes won't fight too much but they will also have less nutritional resources. Luckily for the bear, this massive strenght means that he doesn't have to worry about enemies: in his area, he's at the top of the food chain! No one will ever hunt him (except humans) and the only danger are wolves for cubs.

It's easy to recognize a polar bear since it's. well, white, and living just in a few areas of our planet. But being so rare it's also one of the reason about why those animals are so wonderful and unique! With a massive strenght, it's incredible how they manage to live and survive each day, and fictional works (and others) recognized how awesome they are, and this is why we can find them in many works.

For example, remember that movie, Balto? There were some polar bears in it, with the role of comical relief altough. Or in The Golden Compass (both book and movie), there are some heavily armored polar beark extremely cool. And of course, Coca Cola often uses a polar bear like his main character in advertising.

Polar bear, most likely the grizzly bears, are a force of nature, the proof that even in the most hostile of the environments, life can win.

  • The biggest carnivorous on land
  • Doesn't have any natural enemy
  • A majestic white fur
  • Very good swimmers

  • If you see one, you are already doomed
  • Can be found only in very few places of Earth
  • Slowly on the way of extiction

more rare and beautiful

It's hard not to love a polar bear. They are so stunning in their white fur coats. They are rarer because you have to travel so far to see them in their natural habitat. Grizzly bears are terrifying and have a reputation for being dangerous and aggressive. I would much prefer to experience a Polar Bear encounter rather than a Grizzly.

Polar Bears

I love their unique white color. I just hope something can be done to save them..or they may exist only in zoos in the future. They are amazing creatures.

Polar bear looks cute!

I haven't meet any bears before as I think they are not common here. I only get to them in movies or books. The picture books always show bears are cute, though they are quite dangerous. I always prefer Polar bear, as the white fur makes them look unique, nice and peaceful. Moreover, I don't think I will ever have a chance to see them in real life.

Polar bear

I think both bears are great masterpieces of nature. Each has its natural habitat and is at the base of the food chain. I have not particularly seen a bear since I live in a tropical country and we do not have bears around here. Anyway, I find the polar bear more beautiful and for that reason I will simply vote for him.
Posted by hermessantos on 01-09-2018
Exactly the point I was trying to make on my comment. Polar bears takes the vote from me. Asides the fact that they are more beautifully attracting than their cousins the grizzly bear, I think they are likely more stronger and have the ability to survive in harsher living conditions than the grizzly bears.

Polar Bear

These polar bears can be cute. And they can be peaceful too. Though there are incidents of those bears going out of control. And that is another reason for polar bears being one of my favorite. I like polar bears most of the time.

I just love them

We don't have bears over here and I hope that I get to see one in the future. I have watched some movies and documentaries featuring polar bears and ever since I have developed a strong liking for them. I believe that they are unique creatures. In fact, my friends always make fun of me because I like most of the world's dangerous creatures.

I prefer to see a Polar bear than the grizzly bear because they look so cute but fearsome. I love how the way they hunt and how they can swim. Their fur is really beautiful and so white (to the point that I want it as a coat) but that's illegal so don't mind me. :D I've seen some documentary about them on Youtube and I'm truly fascinated with their species.

Polar Bear

The Polar Bear because they have such a unique look and quality to them.
Posted by NickJ on 01-07-2018

Polar Bear

I guess this polar bear is pretty cute than this other one. We can see it smooth fur and very clean color which is white unlike this other one :)

Amazing Animals

I have to choose polar bears on this one. Although I find both bears fascinating, I think that polar bears are a little bit cooler for a few reasons. One, I think that polar bears are more beautiful with their bright white fur, they really stand out in a crowd. Two, their ability to swim is really breathtaking if you ever get to see it in person (hopefully in a zoo). Finally, they are the best and most aggressive hunters of all bears. They can really put up a fight.

I have not seen a real bear in my life, but given a choice, I would choose polar bear because of its white fur, its ability to stay alive in the North is just amazing.
Posted by peachpurple on 01-07-2018
Even though they are both beautiful creatures in their own way I would never want to have a close look at either one of them. They are both beasts that would kill you in a minute. They are fascinating and I enjoy looking at pictures of them and reading about their way of live. I do not have one that I favor over the other.

I love polar bear because they are rare and because they are white, they look cute. They may seem fascinating to look at but of course they eat and hunt so I wouldn't dare to be close either but would prefer to be closer if I'm safe.

The grizzly bear is a cool and majestic animal but it is still dangerous for humans to get close to them.
Posted by babyright on 01-07-2018
I think we don't have the grizzly bears here. And most of the Asian bears that we have can be something I'd not choose for keeping around. And if you can see how the polar bears can be fun too. Apart from that you can see that polar bears are fun in many ways. You just have to understand that some of those bears are indeed fun to watch in the zoo. That's something I can say for sure.

Am a big lover of National Geographic Channel, every time I watch a documentary on one wild animal to another, I always get this question like that of this topic going through my mind. Most times I draw parallels between a lion and a grizzly bear, never have I thought of comparing a grizzly and a polar bear.

Going back to your question, I'll like to think that a polar bear could most likely defeat a grizzly in terms of strength. A polar bear lives in one of the most harshest environment around and still manges to survive. Grizzly's are more fortunate when it comes to survival giving their rich environments. It is for this soul purpose I choose a polar bear over a grizzly bear.

The polar bear is one beast that is amazing and amusing. It’s white coat makes it look cuddly. And even if it has a thick coat of hair, I still wonder how it can live in the very cold place that is covered by ice. The grizzly bear is another amazing animal but it is in the forest and comes out during summer time. From what I had read, the grizzly bear hibernates during the cold season hence it is only risky in the forest during the summer when the grizzly are out foraging for food. These beasts are worth preserving so I hope hunters would stop killing them.

I have never seen a polar bear for real that's because I have never visited the places where polar bear resides. However, grizzly bears are abundant in my place. My home is near a jungle where there are many grizzly bears. Sometimes there is even a confrontation of bear and humans. I know a person who was attacked by a grizzly bear. Thankfully, people came to rescuse him soon. grizzly bears can be really dangerous.

I like polar bears more than grizzly bears. Personally, I believe they represent purity, hard work and perseverance. It can be the most difficult way to live in a cold place, a winter one. Food is not that abundant and the cold can be very unfriendly as ever. Polar bears are more hardworking in hunting for food. They just don't go to the river and wait for the salmons to jump.

I choose polar bear to be my spirit animal. It's represents strength, beauty and perseverance. Surviving in such a harsh environment is enough to breakdown most of us whereas the polar bear rules the terrain. Bring well over half a ton, how many land animals do you know which can hunt down a whale. Humans are the only threat to this majestic animal. We should really be serious about conserving such a wonderful creature.

I honestly couldn’t pick one over the other - as to me all bears - regardless of their fur color, diet or where they live - are not just way beyond cute - but truly amazing magnificent creatures - that not only deserve a huge amount of respect but protection too - especially as all are fast becoming an endangered species.
Posted by gata montes on 01-14-2018
Both are bears they are just different colours and live in different areas. Both types are lovely creatures of this planet. Huge but wonderful. They are truly amazing animals that I always love to watch documentaries about. Although bears can be dangerous, when left alone they are very placid and gentle creatures. I love their huge size because it makes them seem quite majestic. The fact that they are not domestic makes them mysterious and interesting.

I have seen grizzly bears in zoo and they seem to be common animals. But on the other hand polar bears are something special to look at. Their physique is unique and the way they hunt down fish in the middle of ice is quite tremendous to watch. Their cold bearing capabilities are unmatched to any other animal of their size.
