How comfortable are you thinking out of the box?
Society has set norms which one is expected to follow. My question has always been who sets those norms and why should one follow them if they just do not make one comfortable. As long as the way we live does not hurt another sky is the limit to adopt and adapt. Thinking out of the box is the way to go. It is sad to see people bending backwards to stick to society norms. A wedding for example has to be celebrated with all pomp and glory and for this there are some who take loans and lament later. Strange also is how family gets importance at functions who otherwise are not in one’s life and those who really care are relegated to the background. Traditions are yet another bane that those who have no courage to think out of the box follow them at any cost. I have no qualms about thinking out of the box. I am spiritual and so do not believe in rituals. I do not attend social functions such as weddings and parties as they bore me but I love to organise them. I am closer to the virtual world than the real one. I have drifted from family as each one is buried in their own world. The virtual world sees me interacting with those who share my interests. I never upgrad gadgets unless they help me save my time and are easy to work on, but not because there are additional features. No one optimises the use of their gadgets Several features are not touched. It is just to be in the in crowd that they upgrade their gadgets. I wear what makes me comfortable which means I do not follow fashions. In fact I am fashion trend setter. I only follow traditions if I enjoy them and not because society has set them. I have no qualms about sitting alone in a restaurant and enjoy my meal. In other words I have my own rules.

How comfortable are you in thinking out of the box and what has been your effort?

I think it has less to do with how comfortable I am and more with my ability to actually do so. I would consider myself a very open minded person, as I am typically very accepting of all things esoteric and new. The thing is that I myself lack the ability to generate unique ideas. Anytime I feel that I've come up with something original or "out of the norm", I google it only to discover that as it turns out, what I thought was my original idea is actually fairly common.

That happens to me sometimes when I thought that I had a unique idea especially in the plot of a story. But when I rest and let it sink in my mind it will occur to me that my unique idea is not really out of the box but just common and ordinary. Maybe I cannot Be considered a creative thinker because I have to admit that I am lacking in aptitude when it comes to arts and being artistic is not included in my strong points.

I have never been people's pleaser or one conforming to societal norms at all that is why I don't go with the crowd,I don't have the time for what people think or how things should be done,I go with what I'm comfortable with,I think outside the box and do things my own way, that way I'm more creative and innovative,I breath new air on a situation and turn it in my own favour.I don't look back to see whether one is smiling or frowning at what I do and it has helped me live better and become a better person.

I have been brought up by my parents to always be resourceful and think out of the box, in terms of looking for solutions during less than ideal conditions. I think this has been the most important lesson they have taught me, and I really feel confident when thinking of ways that challenge the status quo be it in simple things or when dealing with much more complicated problems.

I would say that thinking out of the box is my primary mode of thought. I was taught to be very independent by my grandfather, who pretty much raised me. I have always wanted to explore new things and new ideas, and now, even in my forties, this approach to life has not yet diminished--if anything, it has only increased. I do not mind experimenting with things in my life, and I do not mind falling on my face in order to learn from my failures. If you live a whole life without taking chances, then you really will live an unfulfilled life, in my opinion. I don't let what others are thinking or doing affect my choices unless they are giving me good, smart, constructive advice about decisions.

My thoughts have always been outside the box and it does make conversation difficult with some people. I never take anything for granted and have always asked questions about everything. Mostly I don't give up until I have got to the root of what the issue is.

I think for me it is more like on and off moment. And some of the time it works and some of the time it does not work. You can see that it may not always going to be harder on that point. I think thinking out of the box is different for all of us. Life does not work the same way for us any longer. And for this reason thinking we can't have all the time like this.

I'm always thinking of unique and new ideas of doing things. If you think about it, all we have today are the results of progress and new technology and these where made possible by ingenious people like Tesla and Jobs who constantly seek new ways to do things. Thinking out of the box is the new norm for innovation.

Though i sometimes stick to societal norms but in the area of marriage i am still bidding my time not to rush yet but to wait for Gods time to be fulfilled in my life.

It is quite easy for me to think out of the box because I was always thought by my parents to think with my own head and not just do whatever people tell me to. They have encouraged my creativity and that always helps. I try to be unique with my ideas especially when it comes to my work.

Life is all about thoughts and feelings and trying to understand why some things happens instead of the other. This is the reason I always feel happy thinking out of the box. I am such a person that believe that nothing is truly impossible till that thing is not possible and for such things to become possible, we have to sit down and think of ways we can really make it come to pass. That is really what differentiates us from others we know. It is really good when we take a good look at life from such angle and see the need we have to make decisions that matters.

I think in most cases you want to solve problems or issues using the usual methodology. But life doesn't work that way, so the ability to adapt or 'think outside the box' is a necessity... And something you must learn to become comfortable with.

According to a personality test I have taken online, I'm a Builder and as a Builder I tend to follow traditions or rules. I'm not comfortable to think out of the box but I do know that when it is necessary I would do it to solve a problem in a specific situation wherein I could no longer count on the common used method.

Generally speaking, people have two different opinions about me. There are people who like me very much and there are people who do not like me. There are bo people who are between liking and disliking. This is because am out of the box kind of person. I don't follow the trends, I swim against the current. I like thinking out of the box.

I will admit I am an in the box thinker. I think that I do get some good ideas and can be quite creative, but I am more of a conventioanl thinker than not.
Posted by kgord on 02-15-2018
I am not a creative person and thinking outside the box makes me uncomfortable. With the social norms, it is more convenient to just follow than stray from the standard. However, my practicality wins over the standard sometimes. Like the celebration of specials days, we don’t observe Valentine day, Mother’s day and any other special day because my take on that is commercialism only. We can always give honor to our loved ones any day we like and does not need a special day for that.

I always had the fear of being criticized by other people so most of the time I avoid doing thing things different than what is common so I can say that I am not a person who always thinks out of the box but I've been trying to change that by letting myself engage with people who tries different kinds of 'attack' in certain problems/situations that they are put in. With that, I have improved my way of thinking, although not full, I still have to consciously convince myself that there are other ways to think of a situation and to not be afraid of what other people might think.

We people, ourselves are the only one limiting our capacity. Thinking out of the box is a way for you to be more creative, be riskier, and be more free on what will you do in your life. If you are just following the crowd, nothing exciting will happen to you. Follow what you think will be the best and not stick with an ordinary and tedious work. Follow the rules in a hidden way, find ways that will easily finish your task and at the same time the creativity is still there. Don't work hard like others, work smart like no other.

I believe there is a middle ground we all have to meet. For example, meeting society standards isn't always because we're trapped inside the box; sometimes we just agree with that point of view and enjoy it on our own. Likewise, sometimes 'thinking outside the box' is less being yourself, and more being outrageous, incorrect, antisocial and overall problematic.

The key is to be able to be truth to ourselves regardless of society's standards, but only as long as we cause no harm to anyone by doing what we wish to do. Thinking outside the box is amazing and we all should do it, but only as long as we keep it within the realm of what is civilized to do.

That said, I'm comfortable on my own skin and being myself, but I still am aware that society has a set of rules that, sometimes, we shouldn't break.

Sounds Like you are pretty introvert person which I also used to. From time to time I used to separate myself from the other, just like you if feel bore with the usual things that usual people are trending to do. Sometime I feel like I want to always be unique from the others and sometimes I think that most people are not thinking so much in advance and they are just happy in what they currently have in what what they have today. But Who knows there must be a lot of us who just prepare to quite like us. Anyway I think I am getting lost with my thoughts here now.

I am comfortable thinking out of the box, It somehow gave me a kind of feeling that I am superior from the others once they adapt my idea.

I'm not sure if doing something comfortable for yourself can be called thinking out of the box. I associate thinking out of the box with new or creative thinking rather than the act of staying away from the standard or cultural norms. In other words, thinking out of the box has to do with being innovative or coming up with new ideas or solutions, specially in business. It's not so innovative to stay away from people you're not close to in the first place or to not buy the latest gadgets. Some people are born creative and out-of-the-box thinkers and that's why we are enjoying the convenience of electricity, lighting, vehicles, machines, and technological advances. The good news is, creative thinking is something that we can learn and practice.

I am such a good thinker in a way that I think differently compared to others. I am always making sure that my decision and ideas are one notch higher compared to others, especially in my business decision making. Thinking outside the box is really important when you are in the business industry because it can solely determine your success.

I know of a person like you. Pardon me for saying but we call him weird because sometimes his thinking is really far out. He may be a genius in some aspects but most of the time he is out of logic. And his being an artist has a sense for the out of this world ideas that he put in his art works. I admire people who can think of rare ideas that are give sense like those story writers and great authors.

When it comes to problem solving or trying something new and different, I'm very comfortable with thinking out of the box. Regards my efforts? My experiences with thinking outside the box has been positive. I would say if I or others have tried to solve a problem and none of the solutions work, maybe we need to try a different approach, i.e. think outside the box as they say. Also, maybe there are wonderful things in the world to be experienced and I'm missing out because I didn't want to break with “tradition” but then I dared myself. I thought outside the box and tried something news and was glad of it!!

I'm comfortable thinking out of the box. I just don't like being pressured to do so. It's not nice to push people to think hard when there's a time limit. It's best to let creative come to you. It always does.

I'm really practicing it and i'm very comfortable doing it. I'm a technical person so, its really my nature to think out of the box and try unusual methods. With good planning and analysis, it may be a breakthrough or an innovation.

I hate to brag. But I would say really comfortable. I always liked new ideas. I always hate the old way of doing things. If you are christian and I read the bible, you will see that god recommend not putting new wine in old clothes. I really wonder why the brethren are so old-fashioned they must have missed that verse. I think progress is finding new ways to old things and i think that's what makes the world go round. If there was no Steve Jobs or Bill Gates we wouldn't be sitting here having this discussion.

Well if thinking according to the “norms” produces good results and you can live peacefully with others then that's a good thing. However, if it's not working then think “outside the box”. If something's not working you don't keep doing it over an over.

Thinking out of the box is so comforting for me that I usually feel uncomfortable not thinking out of the box.

Societal norm, fears of being different, and expectations from people are among the many reasons why we oblige and refuse to think out of the box, we don't want to appear strange, or appear crazy, neither do we have the courage to grapple with the seeming neglect or risk that accompany not doing what people and society expect from us.

But not thinking out of the box can amount to we hiding our individual uniqueness, the things that make us who we are; distinctly different and unique. And that is not a good way to go, in the long run we will be depriving our world the individual contributions only we are capable of making.

I am very comfortable thinking outside of the box. It makes me think of new ways and makes me express who I can really be. I search myself by simply doing things I wouldn't normally do such as hobbies, listening to other types of music, trying different games or sports, anything that is new to you or any kind of idea that pops in your head that is not normal nor is it daily is considered as stepping outside of your box. You discover something new and that is truly the beauty of doing something extraordinary.
