How do you define faith?

How do you define faith?
Let's put aside the fact that the subject "religion" is always something so controversial and focus on only one point: faith.

Faith doesn't have a specific concept, it's not existentially physical (so, it can not be touched) and it's not something that can be seen... So, how can you create a definition for it? In order to believe in something, do you necessarily need to create a definition for it? Or do you believe for the simple fact of feeling something inside you that asks you to act like that?

The debate is long and will probably never come to an end, but I think discussing it is a very valid thing because it can change people's minds so they can have other points of view on the subject.

"Greater is he within you than he that is in the world." That's 1 John 4:4 from the bible. The greater part of people is the influence within themselves to become a force in life to be of great influence to the world. This is where Faith and other spiritual properties manifest. Faith doesn't necessarily start with seeing. It starts with feeling and often just believing that a greater good exists beyond a shadow of a doubt. It's a spiritual journey where everyone must be willing to take as no one can ultimately define faith for another but we can help each other to understand the principle behind the spiritual concept.

Faith is anti truth, because it doesn't allow us to accept being wrong. Faith is something you can't see but accept as reality. A definition of faith by C.S. Lewis has been making the rounds online lately, as if its a good thing. "Faith is the art of holding on to things your reason has once accepted, in spite of your changing moods."However, when you go and research the arguments, and realize every single argument to that effect EVER, has been fully countered and discredited, should we "continue to hold on because your reason once accepted it, in spite of your changing moods?" No. Yet about 25% of the population do, and think we faked the moon landings, through faith.

According to the Bible, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith was established right from the beginning of creation. It first started when God placed Adam on certain instructions. Unfortunately, he failed in disobeying those instructions and God drove him out of the garden of Eden. Abraham was a perfect example of faith. God even called him the father of faith for the nations of the world. God instructed him to quit his hometown and go towards a land He was going to show him.

Abraham got to a place where he was commanded by the Lord to slaughter his only son, Isaac. He attempted to kill his only child according to the word of the Lord, but God sent a ram instead. God was amazed at the kind of faith Abraham demonstrated.

I would see faith as one of the propagandas of religion in which the churches uses to keep its followers within the clutches of their control, manipulation and influence.

I can agree to having read in the scriptures about a statement that says that a faith without work is dead. Now can you see the contradiction with it.

faith is something that you believe and never doubt it. faith is something that you give your entire life to it. faith is something that is always superior to you but can liberate you if you continue to believe it. You discuss about it, but don't debate. You have one interpretation for it and never recenter your thoughts.

Faith is the ability to believe in things unseen with the hope that it is going to come to pass. To be faithful is to show that you truly believe in those things and that is the beginning of being a true Christian.

For me, faith is believing in something you can't see, haven't see, or something that simply isn't there. It's a construct. I think if you believe in a God that you've never seen, that's faith. When you tell yourself you're the best even though you clearly aren't, that's faith. For me, it's simply the act of believing in something so deeply that you would consider it as real (not to assume that it isn't, but you get the idea). Faith is like a construct that helps you pull yourself together by believing that something or someone will save you through a certain obstacle in life.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It is something that you don't see and yet you have the evidence even if you don't see it. Faith is needed to show our love to God because we trust Him with everything pertaining to our life.

You cannot question one's faith. It strongly binds you to something. Faith is what connects us to God. And faith is our only ticket to heaven with God.
Posted by LouiseLeiG on 10-10-2017
Faith is our ticket to heaven and I have to admit that it is only by faith that we believe that there is an existence of heaven. We had that faith of the presence of heaven and nothing on that.

Well for starters, the technical definition of faith is "complete trust or confidence in someone or something." When applied in the religious or spiritual sense of the word, I would say that faith is characterized as having total and undoubted belief in the existence of a higher power which is watching over, guiding, and/or judging you. The belief that there are an established set of morals and guidelines which are in line with what is "good" in this universe, and that following them will lead you on the path to eternal salvation. All this without any actual, physical evidence to support these beliefs.

You have defined faith very well. faith is believing in something and you don't doubt it, faith is following something without any doubts. Faith is without any reasons, any logic. Faith is complete trust.

Faith to me is believing in things yet to happen and being convinced it will certainly happens. This work often times for me when I say I want something and I have a strong belief it does happened. So yes for me faith is real.

Faith is what defines our belief in things we cannot see or are unaware of earth. Faith is the driving force of this world. Every person resides by carrying faith in his heart. This faith can be about the existence of God, his care for him and the trust that his God is always with him.

Faith gives birth to hope, and this hope always acts as a human driving force. A faith that all shall be well and things will work out our way can create wonders.

Faith is our belief. We have faith that things will work out a certain way or that we will achieve certain things. We have no doubts about the results because we have faith and believe in what lies ahead. We can have faith is God and we can have faith in ourselves. It is important to have faith in ourselves and the decisions that we made in life. If we don't believe in ourselves nobody else will either. People who have faith in God believe that he will get them through whatever struggles life hands them. They rely on God for what lies ahead.

Faith is a belief, is something that drives our life. Maybe not for all but faith shows the course of our life and sometimes exactly when you are down and have nothing to live for, faith will make you getting up and moving on.

Faith can be defined as having hope to get something you have not seen. It also means believing that something positive will happen in your life even when you have not yet achieved it. For us to please God we also need to have faith that God exist and that he is the one that will provide for us and protect us from danger at all times.
Posted by babyright on 10-13-2017
Faith is the humble admission that we do not know the totality of everything and that there are things possible of which we have no understanding therefore allowing us to believe those things which are beyond ourselves.
Posted by Juliemonkey on 10-14-2017
According to the word of God, faith is defined as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. In another verse of the bible, it is clearly expressed that faith comes by hearing the word of God. When you hear the word of God, you begin to grow faith and gradually start acting faith afterwards. Faith is practical in nature, not theoretical and must be practised to receive a crown from God. When there is no faith, there is no crown. In terrible situations of life, faith brings comfort and hope. Faith speaks louder than voice and brings one to perfection in God's own appointed time. The bible says: In His time, He has made all things beautiful.

I define faith as something greater than the church or any religion. Faith is believing without seeing. Faith is a burning desire to achieve something, even if it is something practically impossible. Faith is what can move us daily, what can help us overcome great barriers without being discouraged. Faith is to believe in a God or simply in a universal energy capable of working miracles in the life of any person.

Faith is the believe of thing not yet seen, it is not only limited to sight though, Faith can also be the believe of things that are not yet into fruition, it is the ability to strongly believe in the manifestation of an occurrence or an expectation. And it is really needed in our every day life. I have tried it and you should try it too. Without faith no man can see God.
Posted by Authord on 10-22-2017
For me, faith is somewhat if not completely childish because you can believe in something as much as you'd like but if it's not true it won't make it true. I liken it to something like Peter Pan having to think of happy thoughts so he could fly, wherein in a story book that could be very fun as a read and it does take your imagination where your reality just can't go, but at the end of the day, you just have to accept that there is no way you are ever going to fly like that.

Faith is well defined in the bible. I can say faith is believing that God has heard your prayers. Faith is not having any doubts even in difficult times. You do not have to brag about having faith. It is a spiritual understanding. When you have faith, you will feel it.

According to the Bible, faith is to believe is something that you don't see but you know that something exists and it will come, that's my definition of faith. I think faith goes beyond what we feel, it's not about to perceive signs or tickling in our stomach. Faith is also about in who you believe. If our faith is trustable so, we can believe that everything good you wish for is going to become real, particularly, my faith is focused on Jesus, I know He is real, like the air we breathe every day, although I don't see Him in person and, beyond that, although, sometimes, I don't feel His presence, no one can delete His existence and who He is.

Faith is something you are expecting to get but which you haven't seen. In the Bible, faith was defined as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It's something you are sure of getting, though you haven't seen nor touched yet. Faith can be demonstrated at different levels and it works according to the level at which you are practising it.

My definition of faith would probably be a person who persists in their belief in a deity - no matter how dark things get. It's an unwavering, unflinching loyalty to a higher power.
Posted by NickJ on 12-12-2017
Faith is the expectation for something that is yet to be seen or viewed. It comes with all hope to believe in what has never been touched or seen. Faith builds your mind on confidence that all is well and everything comes to your reach in no time. Faith really helps you improve overall sonship in God Almighty and makes you build more trust in the Lord.

For me, religion is the faith with a practice which means we have to put into action our faith. But the definition of faith for me is the same as belief. I believe in a God that created everything and that he is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent. In other words, the supreme being is the most powerful, most intelligent and all around us. That is how I define my faith.

Faith is a strong belief of something base on spiritual apprehension rather than proof. It is essential to our lives as believers that keep us going. Without faith is like living without a soul.
Posted by cess_08 on 01-27-2018
Faith is believing in things that can not be seen by the naked eyes. It is trusting that everything happens for a reason and knowing that something great is about to happen. It is evercoming adversities by knowing that after all of it, the sun will still shine.

Keeping a belief in something even though it may not always seem real. That is how I would define faith. Mostly the word is used for religion and God but faith can be used for many things. Say for example your spouse is unfaithful. They promise that they will never do it again and hope, that you would accept that. If you do accept that then you are showing faith in that person to change. We show faith at the hairdresser that they will give us the cut we asked for and not hack off all our hair. Faith is belief without the solid proof.

Faith is a feeling of total belief in something or someone, even though there is no evidence whatever that proves the truth of the proposition in question.

To have faith implies an attitude contrary to doubt and is closely linked to trust. In some situations, such as emotional or physical problems, having faith means having hope that something will change positively for the better.

According to the etymology, the word faith originates in the Greek "pistia" which indicates the notion of believing and in the Latin "fides", which refers to an attitude of fidelity.

In the religious context, faith is a virtue of those who accept as absolute truth the principles spread by their religion. To have faith in God is to believe in his existence and in his omniscience. Faith is also synonymous with religion or worship. For example, when we speak of the Christian faith or the Islamic faith.

Faith is our values and what philosophy you believe in. How do you live our life ? Do you believe in hard work? Do you believe in being kind? Do you believe in helping other people? Do you believe in the positivism of life? Do you believe in prayer? Do you believe in a higher power? Do you believe that all of us are equal by virtue of being human?Do you believe that no matter what happens everything is going to be okay? That's faith!

I agree that faith is our belief with conviction. Sometimes faith is mistaken for fanaticism because the person is very avid that he would do anything for his faith even if it is out of logic. I know of some people who act strange because they are too preoccupied with their religion that sometimes I hear them talking to God as if they hear the voice of God. Isn’t that fanaticism? Or perhaps too much faith in their belief?

Faith is belief. It is a form of trust. That is trust in the unknown. The Unseen. Faith is knowing and a feeling of calm because you know. Inside, you totally feel trust about what you believe.

I don't think that faith has to do with God alone. I think faith is an unshakable belief in something. For example. I know when I do my job that I will get paid at the end of the month. That is faith. I believe I will get paid even though I haven't yet seen the money. I know it will come.
Posted by JMS on 11-21-2018
Faith is believing to something that certainly yet to happen. Also believing on somethinh never seen, never heard, never been proven. Strong beliefs give us more faith on to something.
Posted by Wenkx03 on 12-05-2018
Faith is the substance of things hope for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith is believing on something that is not yet happening or something that cannot be perceived by the senses but still you believe. Faith goes beyond the senses. It goes beyond the Physical and holding on to the Supernatural. Faith in God is literally taking God at His Word. You believe the Bible as it is, nothing more, nothing less! When there is FAITH, there is HOPE!

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Romans 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Faith is believing in the impossible. It is believing in God. Even if you don't get to touch him physically, you still believe in his existence and power.

To me I think belief relates to an emotional feeling. When it pertains to science, there is understanding and knowing - not faith. When it pertains to people, relationships, and things that we do not have knowledge or understanding of then it pertains to belief. For example I don't know, or have enough understanding to say that my friends and family would be there for me when I need them. I mean I have my experiences with them and past to know that there's a strong likelihood that they will, but I can't know for certain. Therefore I take it on faith. In the same way I can't know that God exists for certain, I have my life experiences, my trust in humanity, in the world, in the concept of Goodness and believe no matter what life is Good. Even though there is perhaps not enough evidence to know or understand why, it's something I believe based upon an emotional sense of trust, hope and belief.
