How long do you wait after a game console comes out before buying it?
Are you one of the gamers that camps out in front of a store on release day to get the new console, or one who waits for an overall good consensus/the price to go down a bit in a few months before jumping in?

I am not a gamer so this would not apply to me. The only came console I purchased was the Sony Playstation 1. After that, I was just not into gaming consoles anymore - they kept coming out with newer ones, new games, new everything. I do not play games much anyway, who has time for gaming?

I am a gamer, but I never had the chance to buy a new console. I think that if it looks good and I have the money, I will buy it the same day it comes out.

First, primarily I am a PC gamer. I prefer the customizable options for PC gaming compared to console. However, I do own a Xbox One (1TB) I've had for a while.

Regarding your question, I don't buy new gaming consoles immediately when they come out. Usually, if my system hardware and functionality are perfectly fine within my current console, I'm not going to upgrade all because a newer model has been released. The same principle applies to the Xbox One X (Scorpio) being released later this year. I first think $499 as a release price is a bit steep in today's gaming market. So before I even consider upgrading, I'll have to wait for the price to drop. Also, nothing is wrong with my current Xbox One. In other words, I don't see myself upgrading anytime soon.

This applies to not just console games and I'm also a PC gamer but just basically anything which is expensive and I want. But talking about a game I want, I would probably only buy it when the game goes down to a sale of around 25% off. By the time it does go on sale, there will be reviews on the game and seeing whether it is good or not and it will be much cheaper and still have players if it is a good game. So I would never buy a game when it is cheap and will only buy them when they are on sale.

I usually wait about 6 months to be able to buy. The big rationale for this is that usually consoles prices are too high when they are new. Therefore, I expect the price to go down a bit so I can buy it. I like to wait also for new games to be able to buy the consoles and their respective games. Usually I buy a new console in seasonal periods like Black Friday or Christmas. This helps me earn some discount.

I don't use consoles often since I play games on the PC. If I'm really looking forward to buying a game console though it would take a year or two for me to open up my wallet. The price would have to go at least below 200 dollars for a good console like a PS4. Anything above that wouldn't be worth it in my eyes especially since I don't find too much time to play games now anyways.

I try to wait at least 3 to 4 months after the release, give time to the public to settle down a little bit and wait for the reviews.

I wait for 6 months to a year before buying one. I'll wait for reviews, and maybe updates, or for the slim ones like on PlayStation. I sometimes wait for the price to drop or a sale before buying them.

I try to wait 6 months -2 years before buying. I like to wait for a substantial price drop. Also hopefully by the time I buy mine all the manufacturing mishaps will be sorted out and the software will be less buggy than if I bought it on launch day.

I will wait for about a year or two before purchasing a console so that I can make sure the game library is large enough for me to choose games. I really don't recommend buying new released consoles as it can have problems such as bugs and hardware components that's why they make new versions of the console because of the problems of the 1st released console.

I wait until the price drops significantly because I'm not really that much into video games anyway and I never really have been aside from maybe a few years during my childhood, but even then I got over it really fast and was more interested in other things so I don't have much trouble just waiting for the price to drop. Now I'm more inclined to just buy from the bargain bin and get more games for my money rather than just one very new one for the same amount. I also don't play online so maybe that helps too as it's always best to buy a game new if you want to play online.

Very good question indeed. Well most of the consoles have atleast 6-8 years of life. I am including the years after the next gen comes in. As ps3 still have games released for it. Fifa 18 got released for it. Ps3 launched in 2007. Its been ten years now. Now i generally like to wait a little bit more than an year after the launch. Because it takes sometime to get reviews and a ton of good games dont get released in the first 6 months.

Wait at least 6 to 12 months after a console release before purchasing one. Otherwise you're buying at peak cost for an overhyped, hard-to-get console which is likely going to buggy as heck and with limited game library at the start. Let the impatient fools who wait days in line to get one only to deal with glitches; these are your lab rats. Later, you can likely get a cheaper, bug-free, in-stock console with a bigger game library.

I have never bought a console right away or as soon as it was released. It's simply too expensive and the prices drop a few months. I think that it's worth the wait. Most often I've bought my consoles around a year after their initial release and usually saved at least 100-200 dollars. If you're smart you can also find great discounts.

To be honest, I am not a regular gamer and my occasional playing gave me the knowledge of the gaming lingo and the gadgets because my nephew is a real gamer. I sometimes wonder why he has to buy the gaming console when he can use his computer for gaming. He said that the gaming console is different. It gives him the convenience of playing that he cannot get from the PC. Oh well, what can I say about that when it is his money that he used to buy those gadgets for playing. But a gaming console is not cheap huh.

I usually buy one for my kids everytime there's a new gaming console which was recently released I buy the older model, when PS3 was released I bought PS2, and when PS4 was released I bought PS3, doing that saves me huge amounts of money not only from the unit which is quite cheaper by the that time but because of the games which if I bought the latest model would cost me a small fortune. I buy games for my kids in bulk 20 to 30 games so that they won't bother me in buying no games every so often.

I wait a few months just so the price of the game console would get a little lower. I also buy second consoles and games as much as possible so I could save a few bucks. I know how to check the console I'm going to buy for issues before handing my cash out so there won't be any issue of me getting scammed when buying used items. I want to play the latest games and I always get tempted to buy at full price just so I could play the games that I want already.

Seriously, I can't wait any longer to purchase a new gaming console. I have waited long enough to see it launched and in the market and you still expect me to stay a bit longer. It's not possible because I'm buying it immediately.

I usually wait until the release of the next console to buy the older version because by that time the price would just be half of it's original price and that saves me a lot of money. I bought a PS1 when PS2 was released and bought PS2 after PS3 was released then I bought my PS3 after PS4 was released.
