The term country and western music (later shortened to country music) was adopted by the recording industry in 1949 ...

I know that this a global community, so I have no reservations about starting this discussion here because I also know there are people all around the world who love American country music. Surely many must have their favorite songs or singers.

I enjoy some country music! I destroy stereotypes because as a Black man I grew up listening to country music. I used to fall asleep to a country western station my grandmother used to listen to. This was the 70's to early 80's so this was the older country musicians. The Statler Brother, The Oakridge Boys, The Gatlin Brothers, Tennessee Earnie Ford, Roger Miller, Glen Campbell, Tammy Wynette and others. I still listen to it today. Johnny Cash's last album I listen to at least once a week. I don't listen to newer artists very much. Probably because I don't have any childhood memories with them. Also,IMHO, the older stars had something to say. Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr. Though I don't see eye to eye politically with them I can still enjoy their music.

WOW! You just listed the GREATS in country music. You are right! That is (or was) the appeal of country music. There were words in the songs and not just one line repeated over and over and over.

Country music has been the in thing in my country for quite some time now, sometimes I believe country music is the black race thing because of how the singers sing the songs with energy and passion. When a country music musicians sing in a concert one would always feel the impact and the lyrics always set one's mind free. The lyrics are always meaningful and the action from singers comes with a lot of frenzy and excitement.

I do appreciate country music lyrics. It's strange but I would dare say the words appreciate in value, the older you get.

NO, NO and NOPE. I strongly disliked country music. It's my least favorite genre of music. Always has been. I apparently am not alone either. According to this list... (http://time.com/369712...-the-world-grammy-awards/)... country music is the worlds sixth most popular genre of music.

I know you didn't mean to but your comments have made me sad. All of a sudden, I started wishing that country music was not so popular. Perhaps fewer people would have died and there would have been fewer injuries in that mass shooting at the Las Vegas concert (Oct 2017).

I have downloaded a lot of country music from the YouTube. And I like various set of the country music out there. You have to understand that some of the country music bands are really good. But it all comes down to what type of the content you listen. Old country and blue grass music was lot better.

I have an old friend who is a minister and his saintly joke is that if you love bluegrass and country music, you're going to heaven. LOL.

I can't really say I like country music. It's probably my least favorite genre, along with jazz if I'm being honest. I'm European, and I've never actually heard of anyone listening to country music here. It seems to be popular only in the USA.

Popular in the USA and oddly enough Africans and Asians also like it. (O.o)

When I was in my teens, I absolutely didn't like country music. I used to listen and headbang to alternative and rock music. But as I have aged, my musical preference changed. I now prefer more mellow tones. I also have learned to appreciate country music. It's actually very pleasing to the ears. One of my favorites is You Were Mine by Dixie Chicks. It's a very beautiful song.

Interesting! I also had this change of musical taste over time. I've always enjoyed rock, especially in my teens, but over time I've come to like softer songs. I did not know You Were Mine by Dixie Chicks, I opened this song here on YouTube and I really enjoyed it, even save it in my list to listen to other times. Thanks for the tip!

My musical tastes changed when I met my husband. But it wasn't towards country music since I already liked it. His expanded my preferences by introducing me to Caribbean music and New Age music. He opened up a whole new world. :)

I used to like country music so much. Yes, I also liked the songs on the OP's list as well as songs of John Denver and Kenny Rogers. However, there haven't been any new country music hits that I like lately and my list of favorite country songs have stagnated. That made me lose interest in the genre. I'm currently enjoying epic music.

I am personally not the biggest country fan probably because it isn't popular where I am from. We hardly have any country type of bands.

However, of course, I do know some country songs since certain ones are a huge hit.

I respect that we all have different taste.

I am not much into music like before. But I remember in my younger days when my own transistor radio was always by my side, I relished almost all kinds of music, any genre was soothing to my ears. The mention of country music always reminds me of John Denver. He is the most popular doing country at that time when I was in college. And then later it was Kenny Rogers. But let’s not forget the big and beautiful Dolly Parton, she’s the symbol of female country.

It seems like you have a musical taste similar to mine. I really like rock from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Deep Purple are excellent bands and I have some albums of them here in my house. Whenever I can, I put these records to play.

I am a huge country music fan and have been for years. I like the old country and I like the new country. There are so many great artists. I like the songs because most of them tell a story and are easy to relate to. The artists sing them with so much passion and feeling. I do enjoy many different genres of music but country music is my favorite.

I live in Brazil and definitely country music is not common here. However, I like to follow the international music scene and I confess that I like some country music. Alan Jackson is my favorite singer, I even have some of his albums.

I have always loved country music. I am from the South, and I grew up listening to this genre. I love the "old school" country guys, like Wilson Picket, Hank Williams Sr., Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, etc. I love the story-telling themes in country music and how it represents the "simple" things in life. I am not into the glossy new poppy country music, though, and that stuff really does grind my ears, but give me a bottle of whiskey and some Willie Nelson and a porch to sit on, and I am just fine.

I like country music. Most country songs make use of some typical musical instruments like the guitar..drums..mandolin..banjo..the tunes are soothing yet you can easily catch on it and hum along :)

I enjoy the country and folk music. I remember when I was young, I'm listening to country music every after noon before I take a nap. my favorite country musician is Neil Young and Kenny Roger. I really love how they write a song and the story behind the lyrics. It's looks like a just a story telling with a guitar sounds on the backgrounds. When I'm listening to their songs, It's looks like all the things is in black and white.
