If Facebook were paid, would you still use it?
Facebook is a social media platform massively popular around the world (even those who don't like it or do not use it can't deny it... hahaha!!). The fact of not having to pay to use it is something that surely counts in favor of the adhesion of more and more users every single day.

But... What if suddenly that situation changed, and you had to pay to use Facebook... How would you react? Would you still use it (depending on the amount to be paid)? Or would you not consider the idea and delete the account?

I don't think that it will ever come down to paying for Facebook because they would lose too many customers and users to their free competition platforms like Twitter. But let's pretend that Facebook is now pay to use platform. What would I do? I already currently hardly ever use Facebook... perhaps I open it once a day to quickly browse through the updates and respond to a message. Other than that I don't use it anymore. So, I don't think that if the turned it into a paid service it would affect me. I wouldn't pay for it and I'd definitely leave it. Why pay for something when you can use other social media platforms free of charge? Facebook isn't that superior anymore.

I also think that if Facebook will charge the users no matter what amount, there will be an exodus from Facebook. Take note that Facebook is not the only social media of its kind which means there are alternatives where users can go to when they get dissatisfied with Facebook. Since Facebook is earning so much in the advertisements on their pages, I don’t think they will be suicidal in charging a fee to the users.

Probably would not. I think Facebook is a good platform, but not good enough for me to pay for it.
Posted by hermessantos on 07-25-2017
If I ever had to pay for Facebook, then no I wouldn't be on it. It is not that important to me that I would pay monthly or even a flat fee to be on there. I can just stay in touch with family the old fashion way by calling them. Facebook is just another convenience but not something that I absolutely have to have. I am not even on there that much either. I might scroll through a few posts but that is about all. I hardly ever update my status or anything like that. I get sick of seeing other's posts complaining about this or that so I just don't use it. I don't think it will ever come to having to pay for Facebook though.

No. I would not pay to use Facebook as a social media.

They already make money as is for us using the website not to mention all the ads on there and revenue they are making.
Posted by simplym on 07-25-2017
I would not pay for using Facebook. is not a thing we need to live but we are used to it, although if we had to pay for using it I would quit in a heart beat. There are many other ways to connect with others, to find out about news and gossips so I don't believe Facebook is THAT essential for our lives.
Posted by reginafalange on 07-25-2017
I don't currently use facebook, but soon I will be using facebook for my business. But yes I would pay then I guess for business benefits but not for personal use though.
Posted by Inqogn1to on 07-25-2017
This will not happen, facebook has been so nice ever since it begun and it's been nice that way till now, I use most of its services including running ads on the platform to boost business visibility and promoting my blog. If Facebook ever makes It's services paid I'm pretty sure other platforms will rise up.

Personally, I would never pay for facebook, and I am sure that facebook would not resort to this option because they are smart enough to know what they would lose if they did. Underground and diverse markets would pop up to replace the social media opportunities which facebook offers, and they would be willing to do it for free for their populators in order to garnish the revenues from advertisements.
Posted by JoeMilford on 07-25-2017
Zuckerberg said Facebook would always be free. If Facebook starts charging me, then I might not use it; unless I could write it off as a business expense for tax purposes. On the other hand, if Facebook started paying me for my social media activity ... I'd protest! (NOT!) :)
Posted by cmoneyspinner on 07-25-2017
I guess it would depends on a couple of factors. How much it would cost and how many of my friends would stay on it. If my friends and family overseas found it worthwhile to still subscribe to the platform, then I'd be more inclined to also pay for it to keep in touch. However, my first instinct would be to drop Facebook completely if it becomes pay-to-use.
Posted by TheArticulate on 07-25-2017
Facebook is free and I already don't use it. I hate how there are always people trying to promote a lifestyle that is definitively not their own. So even if someone paid me to use it I would most likely decline.
Posted by Marvadaum on 07-25-2017
If it's for $1 a year, I think I might still consider using Facebook. Otherwise, no. The only reason I'm using Facebook is because it lets me communicate with my family. Frankly, the ads and the spread of the fake news sites have already ruined the experience for me.
Posted by chatbox on 07-25-2017
No. If Facebook becomes a paid platform, I will close my account with immediate effect. The main reason why I use Facebook is to keep in touch with family and friends. Maybe if I used Facebook for business, I can find a reason for keeping may account open as the business will pay for the services.

To keep things short and simple, no, I wouldn't pay for Facebook if a user fee was involved. Honestly, I don't find much value to Facebook anymore. I've been on it for years and watched it change many times. Personally, I don't like the direction the website is going. These reasons are for a story on another day. The fact of the matter is, I don't think Facebook offers enough as a platform to charge a fee. Monetizing through ads on the website? Yes! Monthly subscription fee? No.
Posted by Jonathan Solomon on 07-26-2017
I don't usually use Facebook that much. I follow many news channel on Facebook and I am on this platform mostly for the news. I also use it to connect with my friends and families. If I had to pay to use Facebook then I think that I will stop using it. I can get the news from other sources and keep in touch with my friends and relatives on other social media sites.
Posted by Pixie on 07-26-2017
I am not a Facebook addict. In the case, they decide to take a fee for using Facebook I probably give up on it. Why should I pay for something that brings money to them, not to me? They have a lot of traffic, and Facebook should thank us that we have chosen them between so many social sites!
Posted by wallet on 07-26-2017
Of course not! Haha! I often use Facebook on my smartphone and all of the apps that I use on my phone are free.

Okay, first of all I hate paying when it comes to apps. I'm good if they show me ads. I just don't want to pay. Second, majority of the people I know don't want to pay for apps too. So if I would pay to get Facebook, I still won't have anybody to chat with because my friends won't be getting the app. Facebook would be a barren and empty social media site. Who would want to pay for that?
Posted by limberg on 07-26-2017
Answering this question is cheating haha.

I don't have a facebook account and I won't have it, either. It's pretty tiresome and I socially draining so I prefer to pretend it doesn't exist, so if it were paid I wouldn't be affected at all. However I admit that making it paid would practically destroy it, because being exclusive is literally against the core concept of facebook, which is connecting everyone together.

I use Facebook to communicate with friends since its free and convenient. But if Facebook will ask for payment, I might use it rarely only with emergency.
Posted by rose thornes on 07-27-2017
Absolutely not. They make plenty of money off our information now. I don't much like it the way it is, since it's utterly invasive. There is no way I would pay them to gather and sell my info. They should be paying me.
Posted by Zyni on 07-27-2017
No thanks.

There are plenty of free options so there's no reason to stick with Facebook. A lot of people are only using Facebook because they are free. If they started charging people to use Facebook, I guarantee that most people will leave them for another social media. If Facebook really decided to charge people, they'll basically be shooting themselves in the foot. They'll lose a lot of money because people will abandon them and they won't even get the revenue from ads.
Posted by kataomoi on 07-28-2017
Rather than Facebook I think I am more interested in Messenger, because I think I would survive without Facebook, whereas Messenger has become a part of my daily life as I send messages to my loved ones during the day and it is for free. I save money thanks to this compared to the sms charge, and so I think that if the fee was reasonable I would end up paying for it.
Posted by sspi on 07-30-2017
On impulse, I will quit using Facebook because my idea of social media is that it should be free since it is earning by its ads. I will observe my friends on where they will go. There are alternatives and I'm sure there will be new social media sites when that happens that Facebook will charge a fee.
Posted by Corzhens on 07-30-2017
I certainly prefer to invest my money in a course or something that gives me some feedback. Facebook has some small advantages, but it will never be my priority of life.
Posted by hermessantos on 08-02-2017
I agree with you, sir. I learn a lesson the hard way in my life and that was to value my money. I sure wouldn't blow it in some useless social media.
Posted by Marvadaum on 08-03-2017
I would not use Facebook if I need to pay for it. I'm sure there would be alternative social media sites which would take over if Facebook requires us to pay. Facebook has large revenues already through advertising. I would just use other social media sites the day this happens.
Posted by fishmonk on 08-05-2017
I am on half a dozen social media sites, but I use facebook mosts. I use facebook for social interaction as well as promote my business. I have half a dozen pages on facebook to promote my websites, books and myself as an author and freelance writer. If facebok was a paid site, I would have never used it. Since I already have other options for social networking and promoting business, I would simply avoid paid facebook.
Posted by vinaya on 08-13-2017
I hardly use Facebook now little alone having to pay for it. So if they made it pay I would definitely not use it. I run adblock and there are still a ton of ads that pop up in my timeline. And the ads drive me insane! I get that they need to make money but I installed adblock for a reason LOL.

P.S. the reason why I don't use facebook is because people portray they are living this fantasy life style of the rich and famous and when in reality they are poor and maxing out their credit cards!
Posted by Soulwatcher on 08-22-2017
Although I think it will never happen (after all, they already make a lot of money without having to charge users anything), I would never pay to use Facebook (or any other social media platform). In my point of view, it would be a considerable loss of money (considering that its day-to-day relevance is not something essential).

So, it's a big "NO" for me.
Posted by wiseagent on 08-26-2017
Probably not and will never be. I think that it will never be what it is today if it starts as a paid social networking site and not free. So I think it will stay free even after a lot of years and as there are lots of ways to improved its features, develop services that can be very useful to their users and monetize their site with a billions of registered users and millions of users a day globally. Facebook definitely helps a lot of people to stay connected and make it more easier to gather a lot of audience for your products as its provides ways to group those like minded people with the same interests. This provide an easy way to target your audience for promoting a specific product and services in terms of having an online business.

Not even a chance, i mostly use Facebook because of their Messenger app (which is pretty well made) so if doing so would cost me money I'd rather just use other apps such as Snapchat or Skype or... basically chat based app.
Posted by AlexLapusan on 09-05-2017
Sure! I would still use Facebook if it is being paid for, but the difference should be that I would now have to channel my business ideas into making money out of Facebook as well by way of marketing my products/services that I offer to the large audience on the social media platform. I understand that some might not want to pay for it if it is being charged for using it, but I do not see the reason people that make money out of it won't pay for using Facebook.
Posted by Barida on 09-09-2017
It won't make sense to pay for it. I'm already paying for advertisements on Facebook and I would imagine most of my customers will not agree to pay to remain on Facebook. There are many other alternatives that are ready to take that space if Facebook decides to charge for its platform.
Posted by williamk on 09-10-2017
It depends on how much would it cost. It it is too much that most of people could not afford then I would not use it anymore. Because even I have a business, I would not promote it anymore using facebook if there's only few people that can afford to use it.
Posted by vhinz on 10-20-2017
I think this is a non-question. Facebook will always be free. We are the products which is being sold by Facebook. So why should the products pay to be sold?

Actually, I had my doubts about the way Facebook is collecting and analysing data about its users. Then I did an ad campaign on Facebook. That's when I saw how valuable analysed data can be. For just $1 I can reach about 2K users who have the interests which I am looking for. That's very cheap.

So, back to the question. First, Facebook will always be free to use. Two, as long as advertisers pay to use Facebook, it will continue to be available for free to use. Three, advertisers are getting a good deal using Facebook. Four, Facebook can only keep on growing and will remain free to use.

I don't think so. I'm not a social media type of person, I only do most of the time on Facebook is to check some latest wall status from others. I don't like to post anything or update my status because like me, I don't care that much about the status of others so why will I update them on the status of my life. I often do Youtube, where I always stream videos online to learn some new things and stuff. If Facebook will put a fee on their site, I'm pretty sure that they'll lose lots of users. There are a bunch of social media site that people can use.
Posted by ColdFlameChris on 11-12-2017
There are other social media platforms that are free so I wouldn't. I don't think any other site would compare but even then if it were paid, I doubt that many people would keep using it so it wouldn't be as good as it is now anyway. Even if it was, though, I don't think I use it enough to warrant me paying for it so I would just move onto something else.
Posted by Wubwub on 11-13-2017
No, I don't think I will still use it if I need to pay. There was once the rumor spread Facebook was going to charge us, then many of my friends said they would stop using Facebook. Nowadays, I actually seldom use Facebook to socialize with my friends, but I use it more for joining some groups that I am interested in. I believe if Facebook starts to charge us, the group owners I joined will find another way to create the community. Before Facebook, some people were using Yahoo groups for discussions too. I doubt Facebook is going to charge us too, as they might earn a lot from advertisements.

If facebook begin to charge customers to pay a fee whether subscription or in whatever form, i will not be able to pay for it since there are other media platform on the net that offer free services for people to use like twitter and whatsupp. So there are other options, its face book that will lose customers if they want to try that.
Posted by babyright on 06-03-2018
I'm using Facebook everyday but if the owner decided to charge us for using Facebook then I think I would stop using it. I don't have that budget to pay just for me to use that social platform but i hope that it will still remain free.
Posted by blackmist on 08-08-2018
Using Facebook has become almost a daily routine for most of the people around the World. I use Facebook every day to stay in touch with my friends and family and also to interact with people around the world who share my interests and hobbies. If Facebook starts charging for its services I would definitely stop using it. I think that a lot of my friends will stop using it and therefore there will be no use staying on it for long. If Facebook becomes a paid service people will opt for some other website which will provide the same services free of charge.
Posted by jpk0007 on 11-11-2018
I personally I would never pay for Facebook and I know that there is no way for the Facebook personnel to approve to anything like this to happen since they will lose a lot of customers.
Posted by stbrians on 11-12-2018
Nope, I don't think so and there are many other platforms who will rise just because of that and takes Facebook's place at the top, that would be a downfall to Facebook and really a stupid decision to make. People will just use Instagram or Twitter instead of Facebook.
Posted by davedaot on 12-07-2018
I could certainly consider deleting my account on Facebook. After all, in the user agreement, it is agreed upon that everything that I upload there is my intellectual property so all that they could charge me for is their services. If suddenly those services have to be paid, I would download every pictures, videos and memos from there and save it in a local storage. Sooner or later there would arise another free social-networking site that would be just like Facebook and they could just as easily be the leading social networking site, if Facebook isn't free anymore. After all, Facebook gained popularity by being free.
