Is eating a lot of processed meat during the Holidays bad ?
During the Christmas Season most people eat a lot of processed meats which are Christmas staples like different kinds of Hams, Hotdogs, Sausages and other highly processed meats that can be bought in the meat market or in the deli. Processed or not, I believe that eating too much of everything presents some dangers to health. The question is can you depraved yourself from occasionally overindulging in such meaty fare?

I think it is definitely bad for the stomach. It contains a lot of preservatives. Plus those foods are often frozen, that may also affect the stomach. Eating a lot of meat during short period of time gains you weight. And then that weight gain leads to more or less issues with the other things and cycle goes on. So processed meat, cheese and sugar is going to cause a lot of weight gain.

I agree. My friend just had a surgery to remove his gallbladder because he was in so much abdominal and back pain due to gallstones. And he is someone who just loves eating a lot of processed meat.

Interesting that you bring this up. I had my gallbladder out several years ago, but am not a huge fan of meat. I can take it or leave it. However, four years ago, my husband was having serious pain and ended up getting his gallbladder out. We had been on the Paleo diet for about 6 months prior to this. If you do not know a lot about the Paleo diet, you can eat pretty much as much meat as you desire within reason. We stopped doing this diet, even though we both lost weight. It was not worth it to end up having surgery because of it.

Yes, I agree with you. Too much of these may be very delicious but very risky for your health later on. Complications are like a chain, it continues and might even worsen if it's not prevented.

I think the rule everything in moderation applies. Most processed meats are really high in salt so if you’re indulging I think it’s important to balance it with veggies, lots of water and so forth.

Christmas is only once a year and I think as long as you get back on track after you enjoy your Christmas meal it’s not so bad.

Yes, you are right. We have to observe moderation in what we eat, be it processed or not. We should know up to when our body can intake a lot of food during the season of good food and good memories.

Yes, that’s right. I think that as long as you’re mindful of not overdoing any one food then you’ll be fine. Plus, a lot of processed meats are delicious and it would be sad to go without them!

This is what we humans fail to apply even in our daily lives, moderation is always key in all that we should do. So yes it will affect our body if we over eat meat in the name of celebration.

Everything that is too much is dangerous, and we can't deny that every table of this coming christmas has a preservative food that was presented. It is one of the tradition and we can't erase it. What we have to put in our mind is we are in control of everything, we should control our self on what are we taking in. The respect should be there.

Self control is key to being healthy. You can manage the portions that you eat. Just put a little bit of everything in your plate so you can taste and enjoy all the dishes on the Christmas table.

Definitely we in control of everything including our body. A period of celebration shouldn't take away what we need to moderate at a time. Eating meat isn't bad but we should eat in moderation.

You are right. It's also hard to be picky with the food that you'll be serving as it's Christmas. It's the time when we should feast and prepare delicious food. Delicious food is accompanied by preservatives. All we have to do is observe moderation. Also, after Christmas, it's important to watch what you eat, actually, it should be always.

Is everything we eat on a daily basis really safe? There's no such thing as 100% safe if consumed daily. Too much of anything can be really bad for one's health. Everything should be taken at the proper amounts, even food. It's not bad to eat processed meat from time to time, as long as you don't consume them daily.

Seriously, I completely agree with you on this about anything we eat not being 100% safe no matter how much you try to make it safe.

What's more important would be to eat in a healthy manner in order to avoid getting your health complicated.

I honestly feel like that’s such a good point. Recently in the US there was an outbreak of salmonella or listeria (I can’t recall which) on romaine lettuce! Lettuce of all things!! If you can’t eat lettuce safely then I guess anything can be dangerous!
Posted by amelia88 on 12-09-2018

That's shocking! I love eating lettuce. I think I eat it once or twice each week. I would definitely be more careful.

Everyone always say that too much of everything is bad. Well, eating too much processed food even though it's just for Christmas holiday is never good. We always have to maintain our healthy diet and healthy lifestyle.

Personally, I'm not a fan of eating meat. Red meat aren't my thing and I'm well aware of how bad it is for one's health.

I prefer to eat fish more often than any kind of meat. So, basically eating too meat isn't going to happen with me.

Most people don't care to how much processed meat they eat as long as they don't feel anything wrong in their body. People only care about the food they eat after they got sick because of the food they are eating. We have to remember, prevention is always better than cure.

There have been numerous debates on whether meat consumption daily is good for health. Too much of anything is bad for health. Meat may contain bacteria and there have been cases of people infected with the flu when had chicken without proper washing and cooking.

Well anything in excess is bad. This applies with our health and diet. But during such season like this we could not help but celebrate and eat a lot. And since a lot of the dishes prepared for this season are processed, it may present health risk for us, due to alot of preservatives and additives and all. If we couldn't help but eat, we should still try to balance our dishes and regulate the bad chemicals that enters our body. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables alongside meat dishes. This will help release toxins from our bodies. And do not forget to exercise.

Over indulgence is bad, in season or out of season.

Here is how I see it, if you let down your guard and indulge yourself excessively during the holidays, you're invariably bringing to naught all your efforts to abstain from indulgence.

That’s a good point. It can also make it harder to get back on the healthy eating bandwagon if you fall completely off it during the festive season.

Yea, whatever we have over indulge will actually remain with us. So it better to be ourselves even during a time of merriment. Problems associated with over indulgence wouldn't know what precedented it.

I think it is bad for your kidney and liver because they both process the waste on your food which some of the processed foods have. Aside from that, processed food or not, we have to eat moderately during holidays because the cases of hypertension and the like is more rampant during these days.

I agree kidney and lever suffers the most. And people just don't understand how much bad that can be for the body eventually. In some cases though some people just choose to ignore. I guess they find that out when the doctor tells them about the same. I guess we have to learn about it in the due process sometimes and not make suggestion to those people.

I agree that some of us just check our lifestyle when we are experiencing symptoms of high blood pressure and high cholesterol already. We should take care of our health all the time and not be swayed to overindulge during the Christmas season.

Too much of everything is bad. Even if that thing is a good thing or it has good benefits, when it's abused, it's going to have negative consequences to one's health.

I like to eat meat but in moderation, it isn't bad to eat at all but the problem has always being over indulgence, taking of meat excessively and gaining weight that may come with other health problems. To stay healthy one must be careful.

Eating too much processed meat can be really bad to our health. One factor which can affect our health is the food preservative. Too much intake of preservatives can cause headaches, palpitations, allergies and even cancer.

Is eating a lot of process meat this holiday bad? I would say yes, ham is of my most favorite food out there and eating a lot of this kind of food can cause some health risk. I advise if you want to it some processed meat this coming holiday just take it in moderation. Eating healthy is always the best way to go and prevention is always better than cure.

Well, eating processed meat in general isn’t really the greatest idea. That being said, if you’re just having it during special occasions like the holidays, then I don’t really feel that it’s that big of a deal. Even some of the worst things aren’t going to do all that much damage to you as long as you consume them in moderation.

As long as you’re not eating processed and cured meats on a constant basis, you should be fine. In fact, doctors say that meats cured with nitrates can actually be good for you when eaten in moderation. This is because sodium nitrate actually helps improve circulation. But once again, that is when consumed in limited amounts. As they say, the poison is in the dosage.

It's bad when you are eating it everyday but talking about Christmas celebration, ham is a must on our table. We can eat processed food in moderation just to avoid any implications on our body.

I guess it is not really bad to eat a lot of processed food during the holidays as long as you don’t eat that kind of food every day for a week. Processed food has preservatives but there is not clear proof that it is really bad for our health. Sometimes we easily believe on what others would post in social media. I have learned to be discerning with the facts that I have to verify and validate before I believe.

Not so. It is not bad because I mean it is the holidays and you should enjoy eating the food that has been given to you. Eating to much is obviously not good and over eating as well. Just know your limits and know when you should stop eating because eating to much does lead to gluttony which is something you do not want to obtain.

This is kind of true. Eating a lot of processed food is bad.Sometimes it can make you constipated like me. One should be very careful of what to eat as process food will likely affect your abdominal. Just try to eat less and then try to eat some healthy food.

Well. festivals are a time to enjoy and celebrate along with your friends and family. People do usually over indulge themselves especially during this time. You do over eat and over drink when you are in the mood to celebrate the occasion. This over indulgence can become a big problem with people who have less immunity. There is usually an increase in health problems during the festival time due to this.
