Is it safe sleeping in a public transportation?
It really looks odd to me that someone would board a public transportation but within some minutes on the journey, they would fell asleep immediately without being conscious of what's going.

Some unfortunate ones have been robbed in such situations, others taken past their destination or worst.

Do you think that it's safe to nap in a public transportation?

Worst idea ever

I can't think of a more stupid idea than sleeping on public transport. This is for a verity of reasons, including;

  1. Cities are full of people who are ready to rob you. this is because cities contain a lot of very poor people who don't have money for anything and of cause, there are the people stealing from others to pay for drugs.

  2. Cities are often full of drunk people who think it is a good idea to beat up random people.

  3. You will be making yourself an easy target for anyone who wants to kill random people.

Not Safe

Unless you are in air transport. You can see that it does not seem safe to sleep in public. You can see that many people try to avoid the public interaction. Same can be said about the sleeping or asking for favors from strangers. That's what I have found out.

True. If you ever have a chance to sleep in a public place, that's an airplane. However, I always keep my personal belongings near me, because you never know who's the one sitting next to you. I might sound paranoid, but I rather be safe than sorry.

Definitely No

In our place where a lot of robbers are luring around, it is not safe for you to sleep in public utility vehicles. When you are asleep, you are unconscious about the people around you. There is a less chance that you will feel or be aware that there is someone opening your bag or getting something valuable from your pocket. I have friends who told me that they slept in a bus for example and as thet woke up, they just realized that their bag was open and found out that their wallet and phone couldn't be found.

I live in a very dangerous city too, and it has happened a lot of times. Thieves can be so terrible, that they will robbe someone, and they will menace the rest of the people around, because usually they're carrying weapons. I know, that's terrible, but unfortunately, people still keep getting naps in the bus, even though they know how dangerous it is.

Personally I wouldn’t

In this day and age leaving yourself vulnerable to being robbed or even assaulted can happen if you fall asleep on public transport. It’s sad but true - I wish it wasn’t something people needed to worry about but I’d never sleep on transport if I was traveling alone.

sleet at your own risk

You are never safe sleeping at your own home much more sleeping in the public places. Sleeping in public places makes you vulnerable to any attack or burglary since you are not aware of what is happening around you. If you have seen someone sleeping in public, understand that person. Maybe he is just tired from work and needs to sleep. All you need to do is to keep an eye to that person and wake him up if someone takes advantage of his situation.

Sleeping while using public transport is a recipe for disaster. Once you do, I'm sure there's a huge tendency that you'll be robbed or snatched of your belongings.

No

Though, I have experienced sleeping many times at a public transport because I was so tired from work, I still think that it's not safe. If you are not a person who easily feels your things while on transport, then, just say goodbye to them before falling asleep. Haha. I am just lucky that the people around me when I commute are good-natured too.

dangerous

There are people being robbed and groped while awake so it's doubly possible for that to happen to someone who is oblivious of what is happening to their surroundings because they're asleep.

No

I don't consider sleeping in any public transportation a safe one. Nowadays, you can see in news stories of random people being rob, snatched or being sexually harassed in a public transportation. I have a friend who is a working student. She study during the day and work as a massage therapist in the night. Because of tiredness, most of the time she spend her sleep in a bus and when she wakes up, she just found out that she already lost her cellphone. This incident happens to her a few more times. Though doesn't want to sleep in a bus anymore and become more careful, she can't fight the tiredness and the sleepiness.

Unsafe!!

Sleeping in public transport is very unsafe and dangerous for anyone. Your safety cannot be guaranteed by anyone except yourself in this world. It is therefore important for you to be alert when using any public means of transport. The least that can happen to you is missing your destination and having to board another vehicle to take you back. This can be of great impact if you have an important meeting to attend to at your work place, it is your first day at work and you need to make your employer and colleagues have a good first impression about you or you are going for an interview and need to be on time. Theft is also something that can happen to you when sleeping in public transport. Your money, eelectronics and any other valuable items could be taken away from you during your nap. You could also be drugged and hijacked without your knowledge and who knows what could happen to you.

Not safe at all

It really isn't a good idea to sleep in a public transportation especially if you are the only one riding. You got no family or friends with you. Many people tend to spot people sleeping on buses or trains and they would often steal their stuff like phones or bags especially if you are not holding them tightly or securing them with you.

Never safe

No. It's never safe to sleep in public transportation. Some people are wide awake and still they fall victim to bad people. I think on public transport we need to keep a watchful eye at our surroundings. We need to be cautious at all times.

NO

It is not safe to sleep in a public transportation. You can get robbed. I have seen someone wake up and realize that their phone is gone. I would like to think that we can trust other people but past experiences have otherwise pointed to an emphatic NO.

Nope

It's not really safe, I've seen a lot of circumstances where people slept in the bus and their heads are outside the windows of the bus, that's really terrifying to watch, I really just woke them up and tell them to not sleep in there because it's just so dangerous and watching someone's head get hit by a car is just terrifying.

No

Is it safe sleeping in a public transportation? No, it is never safe sleeping in public and I would advise anyone to avoid this even if your very tired and you really want to take a little nap.

This is very dangerous because you are putting your self in a very unsafe position. You can be easily robbed or even molested. If you are in public you should always be aware of your surroundings.

Susceptibility

Sleeping in a public transport is very dangerous, especially that you are surrounded by dozens of people. No one can be trusted, almost everyone has unpredictable intentions and actions. It could range from theft to rape or other worse incidents. Leaving yourself vulnerable to that is simply irresponsible. However, if there were securities, it could be a bit safer, but your possessions are still your responsibility. A companion to watch over you should be alright.

Sleeping in public transportation is not safe

It is not safe because, for one thing you might pass your desired destination during your sleep. Also, sleeping gives other people the opportunity to steal something in your bag or pockets. It is also likely that some may take advantage of you. So yeah that’s it, I highly don’t recommend sleeping in public transportation.

It is not safe!

To simply put it-someone can steal your things while you are sleeping! I mean, if you are napping, someone could easily steal something from your pockets, from your handbags, wallets and similar things like that. There are many people who are dangerous and many who can harm someone who is practically helpless while sleeping. So no, I think sleeping in public transport is neither safe nor smart idea.

NO WAY!

Public transport. You can be in the best country, and still get robbed there. I have a friend that got robbed on a morning train from Amsterdam in the Netherlands, a rather safe country with low criminal activity...He fell asleep on the morning commute and his phone and wallet got stolen. IDK would never sleep on a public transport of I were alone. Even on a plane it can be dangerous!

I don't think that sleeping in a public transportation is safe because there's a lot of people in a public transportation of course that's why it called public haha. And some people that you met is not trustworthy but some are. Maybe if you sleep in a public transportation the most possible that may happen to you is you will be robbed. It's better to not sleep in public transportation and if you have someone in your side that you know well example your friends, parents or siblings then you can sleep safely haha but if you don't have then don't try to sleep.

Well, the problem isn't about sleeping in public transport but the people in it with you. If everyone was modest then theft or public stealing wouldn't be a problem but since people don't respect themselves then it better one should always be awake.

For me no as you give them a chance to rub you without noticing since you are asleep. Although sometimes you can't control it but before you nap, make sure all your things are safe and enough not to rub you. It's better not to sleep while in transportation just in case someone intentionally to rub you.

Definitely not safe. You leave yourself open to other people you don't know. This people might touch you or rob you. Here in my country, robbing is a big problem. Everywhere in public transport and streets are definitely not safe. What's more if you are sleeping? So, better not.

It will never be safe to sleep at a public transport. But, in NY case, before, I was on a graveyard shift, and I always commuted back home sleeping, haha. I was just lucky back then that nothing bad happened. Also, I always made sure that I had my hands on the zipper of my bag.

In our country, sleeping in a public transportation is not safety. There are many instances that a passenger fell to sleep have been robbed. This is scary and some of this has been video recorded. People who would see it would just simply take the video in secret but afraid to wake up the victim or tell other passengers because the robbers might turn to them and hurt them or worst kill them.

It all depends on the individual. Sleeping in the local trains is okay for me if you are tired after having a hectic day at the office. But, people would be waiting for the opportunity and there is a risk of getting robbed. Public transport is a very useful means of transport but you have to be watchful all the time traveling.

Yes, we should be vigilant or else we would go home without our things. It's okay to sleep if you have another company so that you can ask some favor if ever you want to sleep. They can watch over your bag or belongings.

Yes, specially for females, they might get taken advantage of without them knowing it. In rush hours public transportation are always full and people are packed inside like sardines, females should be careful of being taken advantage of. When I have something important with me or If i am carrying a sizable amount of cash with me I just take a taxi or an uber.

It is extremely dangerous to safe in public transport. I have found out that some people can take the money while you are sleeping. And some of the time it can be a bit harder to work with the transport vehicles. For safety issues alone i find it a bit harder to work with public transport issues.

It is a common sight to see the passengers of public vehicles to be sleeping in the morning trip especially when there is heavy traffic on the road. There are only 2 sights that you will see – one is sleeping and the other is using the phone. It depends on the kind of public transportation because there are criminals around us and if you sleep then you may lose your phone or your bag.

Especially in the early hours of the day, buses and subways are filled with people going to their places of work. Although it is the main peak hours, I sometimes am surprised to see people who can fall asleep so easily. The same thing happens late in the afternoon or on the last public transport routes well into the night. I believe sleeping on public transport is not something planned to consciousness, as it can expose you to theft while you disconnect. However, lots of people who study or work very hard tend to fall asleep.

First, I guess you have to be really tired to sleep on a public place, with all that noise and movement around you, I wouldn't be able to even close my eyes. Second, of course is not safe to do it. When you're sleeping, you are just unconscious of whatever is happening around you, so you're almost totally helpless, and people can take advantage of you. Sometimes, I'm so tired and sleepy when I get out of work, that I fear I might fall sleep in my bus back home, but I just can't stand noisy environment, so that's good in that moment.

I'm pretty much the same as you are, I can't fall asleep if I'm on a moving vehicle. I did before, but the good thing is that I'm with my buddies. If you're planning to sleep on public transport alone, be prepared for what might happen. There's this girl who fell asleep in a jeepney before, and the robber snatched the necklace out of her neck! Good thing she never had any bruises when it snapped.

Is it safe sleeping in a public transportation: I also did it sometimes specially when i am not feeling well but i need to go to work, or I am tired from work but I can say that it is not safe because you are prone to the plans of some bad guys, it is not only aplicable in girls but to all. Boys can be a victim also and even if your a guys how can you protect yourself from those kind of people of your at your sleep, always be aware in your surroundings.

I think it depends on the place. In my experience, there is a little chance you will get robbed in rural places compared to urban places. I find peace taking a nap or sleeping in a rural public transportation vehicle. You can also be vigilant in order for you to avoid this kind of situation like placing your bag in front of you and your well valuable things inside a safe place in it instead of putting them in your wallet or pocket.

Yes, for me it's a common sight when traveling on public transport: see people head-butting and even sleeping while sitting, waiting to reach their destination. It may even happen to me sometimes. It's not safe, as you could get robbed, but when I'm feeling exhausted I hug my backpack tightly and take a good look of the people around me. Nothing has ever happened to me so far.

Everyone can agree that it's so unsafe to sleep in a public transportation, many things could happen like your head out of the windows, or sleeping in someones shoulders which someone may find offensive and you can get a lot of trouble or maybe someone might stole your things or your money, it's really not safe to sleep in public transportation, force yourself to not sleep in there until you've arrived home.

No, I don't think it is safe as there might be people who might take advantage while.they are sleeping. Since it is a pulic transportation, you must be very careful and alert as some people might do something bad on you. It is understandable that you might fall asleep because of tiredness but you fight against it because a bigger thing might be lost if you will lose your fight against sleepiness.

I would probably say that it depends on the number of people in the area. I’m originally from New York City, and much like many New Yorkers, I used to take the subway everywhere. I used to take the train to college every morning at 6:00 AM, and I’d sometimes come home as late as 10:00 PM, which meant that not only was I sleepy on the way there, but I was sleepy on the way home as well.

If the train car was decently crowded, I’d have absolutely zero issues with falling asleep. New Yorkers have a reputation for having each other’s backs, so no one would be stupid enough to try and rob me in a crowded train. That being said, if there were only a couple of folks in the same car as me, I’d always try my best to not nod off.

Unfortunately, I did fall asleep a couple of times even in those situations, but nothing bad happened.

It honestly depends on the public transport, but to be honest it's not safe to sleep anywhere. It just either has more or less risks. For example sleeping in a bus is a lot more riskier than a minibus, because it's a lot more open. Someone can snatch your stuff. I can take a nap in a minibus, as long as I'm sitting next to the window, and my stuff are beside me (on the right side).

I think that this depends on which Country you are and the location you are in. I have lived in quite a few countries where this is perfectly safe. I have lived in others where if you sleep in public you are in danger of being robbed and even of being hurt. In my Country for example people who sleep while taking public transport have been know to suffer consequences. They have been drugged and robbed and even raped. If taking public transport in my Country you need to be very careful.

I never sleep when I'm going somewhere close but when I'm travelling and I'm stuck on the bus for over 8 hours, I tend to sleep. I love to sit by the window and I usually ensure all my belonging are kept between me and the window for safe keeping. I'm a light sleeper so no one can reach around me to get my stuff without waking me. Everyone on the bus is travelling the same route so no one is robbing anyone else and getting off after 30 minutes, we're all stuck on the bus for the duration of the journey which is why it is pretty uncommon to hear that people were travelling and were robbed by someone in the bus

Almost all of us voted for NO but it is actually hard to prevent it from happening especially when we are tired. I have experienced this, no matter how much I try to wake myself up my eyes just close by themselves. This the reason that I always prefer to stand while riding the train rather than sitting down, it stops me from falling asleep and makes me more alert so I can get off at my stop.
