Is the internet breaking us or getting us more united?
Technology advancement has seen the internet being explored and used for several purposes. It has led to the vast use of social media sites for both personal and professional/business purposes.

But on the other hand, we have seen a lot of increase in cyber crimes, and scams. With all these developments, do you think that the use of internet and social media is literally breaking us or getting us to be more united?

We are united.

I feel that the internet has done a lot of good that we shouldn't use the bad sides to overshadow it. This is why we should always learn lessons from what is happening and try not to fall victim to it.

I think we are connected. Social media sites are the proofs that we from different countries and races can interact with each other. Through internet, we can connect with our families overseas through video chat. We can express our opinion regarding international issues. We can persuade and inform people through blogs and news sites not only locally but also internationally.

United We Stand

I'm part of quite a few groups online. Facebook groups and sub reddits to name just a few. People of the same interest as me get to engage in our similarities and likes. It unites people of different upbringings together.

I choose to agree that it s making us united. It gets us closer. We can communicate through the internet.

United we stand

The internet is actually bringing us closer together believe it or not. Due to the communication, the events happening and what is going on in the world we stay updated and go with the trends and the events that are often happening. Things such as Pewdiepie vs T-Series. You can easily see YouTubers and fans working together to get Pewdiepie more subscribers than T-Series. This is one example of how we are all getting and growing together as one.

More Connected

For me personally I get more connected with the people that are far away from me and I spend time with them, and also I balance things out when I'm just at home sometimes I just talk to my family without phones and kinda just appreciate that I have them.

It helps world get connected

Its obvious that inten

Internet brings us closer! Especially social media where we can have a chat with a human who lives far away from us. We can share our opinions, our look on the world, we can share our common interests! Internet can be such a beautiful thing if used right! Internet connects human. Long live the internet!

United we Stand

I believe that the world has never been more united. We are more interconnected than ever before, there are numerous business opportunities, ideas are being shared. The data is flowing, and people are talking. That is what its all about!

We are more judgmental than our ancestors. We are losing our root.s And we are more liberal but losing the culture. So that goes to show you that internet is more breaking people than connecting. I think once the AI comes in things would get more troublesome as well.
Posted by overcast on 12-11-2018

Its breaking us because we read to much information on the internet and the internet is full of scammers, people that want to use you and nothing but to harm you.You can find good thins and people but its really rare.
Posted by MittensFX on 12-11-2018

In everything, there is a nasty element

In a sense, we can never really be unified as that is just physically, morally, spiritually-- (in all essence really)--impossible. But with the community that you are attached I would say that the internet has unified a lot of us more than it has broken us up. Artists finds their followers, help finds those in need. I think that processes go faster when it counts, as it should be. And besides, whatever it is, there would always be nasty elements. But the internet is an instrument. Use it well for the good, and good would come out of it.

There maybe are some small instances where the internet has been the cause for animosity between certain groups , but in the long run it actually has unified the whole world in a unique way that has never been done before. All ideas are spread quickly and I think it has contributed to the social betterment and awareness in general.

Ironically speaking, internet helps us to be united with our loved ones from other side of the world but also separate us from the people around us. So, for me it can be both.
Posted by burgosmichael2407 on 12-11-2018

It can be both, it's uniting us and at the same time it's breaking us. Internet breaks us through fake news which can be found on the internet, or we just have different principles and beliefs that when there is a discussion online, we tend not to get along.
Posted by luv2xacosta on 12-11-2018
There are both positives and the negatives but I also feel like the positives waay more outweigh the negative aspects and focusing on the negatives should not be our goal. There are so many great things that come with connection and the fact that 1 in a 100 000 connections is bad should never be a huge biggy.
Posted by Martin on 12-11-2018
It's more of a uniting us for me. It sure does break us because some people use technology the wrong way, but people like me use it to connect it with other people far from me. People can choose to use technology to break us or to connect us. It's up to the individual him/herself to decide whether to use technology for the good or for the bad.
Posted by hstinscdln on 12-11-2018
I also feel like it is only a small percentage of the world users of technology that misappropriate it which should never be a cause for alarm as negative minded people are always bound to be available even at the most perfect environments.
Posted by Martin on 12-11-2018
Not necessarily uniting us but bringing us closer through advancement in communication. I don't agree that it is breaking us, all the scams, cybercrimes has been happening to us humans well before the internet was invented, just in another form. We have and will continue to cope and try and put a stop to this wrongdoings. The excessive use of social media is an issue but I'll wait to pass on my judgement after maybe 5 or 10 years when a new generation has fully developed into adulthood.
Posted by pencilneckgeek on 12-11-2018
Not necessarily cybercrimes because those are the kind that rely on the internet at a large part but the crimes of any sort have been existent for a very long period. The thieves just knew how to utilize technlology to advance their objectives.
Posted by Martin on 12-11-2018
There's always something that gets sacrificed for progress. The internet is a big help, it's a big help in building bridges across the world but sadly it also separate families. What I mean by this is goodbye to the times when entire families eat lunch or dinner together, no more chit chat bonding, things that families used to in the pre internet era are disappearing because of technology.
Posted by Kakashi2020 on 12-11-2018
hahahaaha yeaah there is that sort of division which is brought about by the tendency of people to love their digital life more than the physical one which can lead to huge rifts in personal interactions.
Posted by Martin on 12-11-2018
There are advantages and disadvantages having this technology. It has advantages since we can track and communicate easily with people, in the other hand other folks who has bad intentions can also easily fool and scam us. There are also cyber bullying and bashing in internet which makes younger folks prone into depression. If they have something to rant to, they will post it in social media which kind of annoying. Sometimes there are things that should keep in private.
Posted by nekonieden on 12-11-2018
Yep, couldn't agree more in this one, it's really annoying to see people ranting on social media about they have someone that they are really angry of instead of just confronting them in personal and keeping it private, they share it to the world which is weird and again annoying.
Posted by davedaot on 12-13-2018
I have seen people claiming that we are more united. But we are losing the culture we had once. And instead we are adopting what makes us look cool. Which is not a good thing. So the culture that uses the internet wisely are more likely to be alive. I think in such context it'd be reasonable to say that we are breaking slowly.
Posted by overcast on 12-11-2018
There is always a change in culture as we evolve since it is what we do as human beings and more so inhabitants of the earth. You can imagine that there were people who were complaining after cars were invented that the horse riding culture will be lost.
Posted by Martin on 12-11-2018
Internet is benefiting us I must say. It has united me with most of school friends and I have also made many friends across the globe with the help of internet without which I would have never met them in my life. It is for the good as long you behave properly with the other person and maintain a healthy discussion.
Posted by kaushikangara on 12-12-2018
There are times indeed that internet breaks us a part and there are times where we are united. We can never tell, since in the internet, the community is composed of different culture, tradition and principle. Aside from that there a lot of fake news where every one have different approached since some of them believe while don't.
Posted by luv2xacosta on 12-12-2018
I choose to believe that internet gets us closer together. There are social media like Facebook that connects us with our loved ones abroad.
Posted by jeffreyjose48 on 12-12-2018
I feel it’s like anything in life - there are elements of good and bad. I see a lot of very positive things happening as a result of the internet, but also a lot of negatives too. I don’t think it’s all one way or the other. I wish it would be completely a uniting source but I sadly think sometimes the internet does create drama and hatred.
Posted by amelia88 on 12-12-2018
I think the internet helped a lot in getting us united/connected but sometimes it's breaking us through toxic conversations on social media for example political conversations, people calling each other nasty names just to prove a point. Instagram is different however because they allow us to disable comments which makes it more safer than any other social media app and I think others should follow especially the giant Facebook.
Posted by ivandelrey on 12-12-2018
I feel like it depends on the user. For me personally, I get more united with my friends and relatives we get to spend time together not just commenting on photos and or communicating by chatting but really spending time with them, and my friends in elementary, high school, college. Communication gets easier because of the internet but for others though, they feel a lot disconnected with the world and the people around them, I know someone like that.
Posted by davedaot on 12-13-2018
True. It depends on the user. You can be connected to anyone and at the same time destroys someone's life. It is a double edge sword. It can help and destroy at the same time.
Posted by Alymae on 12-13-2018
Internet making us more united. It helps us a lot by reaching out to those long lost friend or relative that we never saw a long time ago. The Internet is also the main source of income of the others, we just have to be more cautious when making transactions because there's a lot of scammers using others people name to fool others.
Posted by Em14 on 12-13-2018
Is the internet breaking us or getting us more united: We all know that most of us already use internet to communicate family, loveones, and friends that far from us. It was very helpful in that kind of situation not like before that you need to wait a konger period of time to recieved or give a message to them and most of the time it has additional delay of days. Internet also is the way of knowing your relatives that you didn't meet before. Communication is the one thing that will make every relationship more stronger and the internet is a big big help. But there are also negative happenings because of internet and we witness it so i conclude that the importance of the internet will depends on how it is use.
Posted by mhingnhormz on 12-13-2018
This depends. How do you use the internet? Do you use it properly? Do use it to abused others? Our society today has advanced a lot and has made things possible for everyone. We are able to do things we are not able to do before. It all depends on the way you use it.
Posted by Alymae on 12-13-2018
I think it is both. In a way it bridges the gap between people who are physically far from us. It helps us be in constant communication from people we know and it helps us meet others. But in a way this meeting also lets us meet people who are opposed to our beliefs which can sometimes cause the gap to become bigger. Technology has also given way to the faster rise of fake news and information because it's easier spread these days.
Posted by knnon on 12-14-2018
I think whether it's online or not, there would still be people out there trying to fool others. We should not blame technology for our own actions. I have some friends who have problems with social media which they blame everything to it which is wrong. These people do not see clearly what is the problem. It is the users and not the social media itself that makes problem online.
Posted by gutzman on 12-14-2018
I think that it depends on the person, if the person is engulfed in social media and the internet then the internet could potentially break us up. If a person however is a responsible human being and is able to control his/her action then the internet is able to unite that person to others with out jeopardizing his connection to the real world.
Posted by tophgreg on 12-14-2018
I am undecided on this matter. I would say the internet is doing both. It somehow makes us detached from our day-to-day lives and encounters with people, while, at the same time, it allows us to connect to faraway friends and families.
Posted by astraherondale on 12-14-2018
As one of the phrases I have read said that, "internet helps to connect people who are far away from each other, but it also disconnects people who are said to be near with each other." which I think is very reasonable. Truly internet's aim is to connect and spread knowledge all over the world but there is a also a chance where it could get abused and people tend to get addicted into it forgetting what matters the most.
Posted by ajahcuizon on 12-14-2018
I think that we are getting more united. If you think about it the whole world is on social media communicating with each other. Look at social media channels like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. People from all corners of the globe are sharing ideas and things that are happening in their lifes. I learn so much from social media, it has become my main channel of knowledge. I interact with people from all corners of the globe.
Posted by jaymish on 12-15-2018
In my opinion it is both.

Social media is just one aspect of the internet but is a major one and I want to use it as an example to justify my point. Social media has united people as it has helped to connect long lost friends and relatives whom we may have been searching for. Without social media the chances of finding someone would be very low. Facebook was actually started with this benefit in mind. Also, there are many social media communities which many people belong to, giving these people a reason to unite with each other.

However, on the other side, social media has also been heavily criticized for the effect it can have on many people's mental health. Some people may become jealous of others for stupid reasons such as the other having 'more likes' than them. This is very common nowadays and, unfortunately, social media must take the blame for this

I would probably have to say that the internet is definitely being used to unite people. A lot of people like to say that the internet is making people more anti-social, but I believe that people who aren’t naturally social wouldn’t have been any more or less inclined to be social because of the internet anyway. In fact, I’d say that as an introvert, the internet has actually made me even more social. Typically, I wouldn’t talk to anyone for days on end simply because I don’t enjoy human contact. That being said, I do have friends on the internet who I talk to on a daily basis, so I can definitely say the internet has connected me with people in a way that I wouldn’t have otherwise.
