Listening to the Radio

Listening to the Radio
Listening to the radio, whether at work, at home or on the go, can help to relieve boredom and entertain you just by listening!

And the radio itself has been around for many decades now! It's nothing new, but it's still going as strong today if not stronger!

There are now many, many radio stations. Both on AM (Amplitude Modulated), SW (Short Wave), MW (Medium Wave) and FM (Frequency Modulated).

Of course, FM radio stations are the most popular of them all. In the UK we have popular FM radio stations like Kiss, Heart, Radio 1, 2 etc.

And the radio has come a long way from what it first started out as! When it first took off, it was mainly used for military purposes.

But then the first transistor radios came out in around the 30's & 40's and people were able to tune into their favorite stations and broadcasts at home.

These days we don't really use those old technologies anymore and everything is now digitalized including radio stations.

And now, you don't have to use a large cabinet about the size of a fridge to tune into a radio station, you can do so on your mobile phone!

But the radio has proven to be a massive help to people throughout the decades of its invention. Both to entertain and to inform.

And we'll probably always have radio players and radio stations to play on them. Despite TV being more popular among people.

But is it really more popular than the TV?

Pros
  • The radio has been around longer than the TV and has evolved from basic transistor radios that were massive to small digital radios of today.
  • There are many different radio stations on both AM, SW, MW & FM wave lengths.
  • The radio has been useful for informing yourself on world events, war, news etc.
  • The radio has been used for entertainment purposes as it is so much still today.

Cons
  • The radio can only be listened to and there's no moving pictures with little interaction needed.
  • The radio can also be used for nefarious reasons such as radio hacking, spreading propaganda etc.
  • Radio stations often play their songs on repeat which can get really boring and hum drum!

Listening to the Radio

Listening to the Radio is easier for me, don't understand me wrong I also watch television on a post with music but most of the time I listen to music to the radio because I do things in the house listening music as well. Besides when I go to work every day with my own car I listen to music to radio, at the subway I listen to music to radio to my helmets, so, is a bit impossible for me to watch tv in all this time!

Radio

Nowadays the content in TV is so boring that I prefer the radio. Also I can listen while doing something else and this is something that pleases me very much

This!

I used to watch a lot of T.V. shows and series but, now, I prefer to listen to the radio because I found a station where almost all the announcers are stand-up comedians so, They always are making jokes about everything they talk about in their programs and I'm always laughing because of them. They make my day funnier and enjoyable.

Radio For Me

It's less distracting and honestly I don't have time to sit down and watch what's going on all the time. My schedule is erratic as is so I can't just find time to plonk down and literally watch something. Instead radio I can just turn on and tune in or out when I need to without focusing both eyes and ears to be engaged. I can listen passively as I work, ect.

Watching the TV

Watching the TV
TV (Television), it come some time after the radio, from those first huge black and white CRT TV sets that weighed a ton!

To the large but thin high resolution digital TV sets we have today. And before it was digital, everything was pure analogue.

And in the early days, you only had one or two channels. BBC1 and BBC2 in the UK, (NBC, CBS and ABC in the US) to hundreds of channels today.

Today, even freeview TV has about 100 channels to watch. And digital, cable and satellite TV services offer many hundreds of different channels.

And the channels have grown along with the technology. From old black and white TV's, to NTSC TV's to HD TV's to 4K/8K and even 16K TV's of today.

And like the radio, the TV has been used by people both to entertain us and to inform. From watching shows, documentaries & movies to watching the news.

So much so that these days, you probably wont be able to find a single home that doesn't have a TV set! Whether an old CRT or a flat screen TV.

And the TV does have something over radio. Well it has moving pictures! As well as sound. So you can watch it with your eyes and hear it with your ears.

Some say that when augmented reality and holographic technology improves, people wont have sets on the wall anymore, but will have an image made in front of them.

Imagine that! Instead of watching TV on a square or rectangle box (wide screen TV), the whole room you're sitting in will be the screen itself!

But is that a good thing? The TV has been blamed for many years for being a "convo killer". For gluing people to their chairs and making them lazy!

Plus let's face it, we are constantly bombarded by adverts, adverts, adverts! You turn over temporarily only to find more adverts!

Plus, if there is anything good on, the rest of it is pretty monotimous dribble isn't it!? Boring TV shows you're not interested in.

On top of this, the TV is also blamed for being "twisted" by the media to show only what they want you to know and not the real truth of what's actually going on.

Lots of news stories for example are often manipulated and edited before they go live and release the announcement. Some say there are literally boards of people that control this.

Some say that the TV is a weapon used by the government to brainwash people since when you see it on the TV, on the news, well then it must be true right? Come on!

I don't want to get into that, but it just wanted to point out that possibility for this VS. The same can be said for radio too!

But is the TV better than the radio?

Pros
  • The TV come some time after the radio and has also evolved from massive B&W TV's to ultra HDR flat screen super thin smart digital TV's of today.
  • There are now many many different TV stations and many different providers and way of viewing it from digital freeview, satellite and cable TV.
  • The TV has been used and enjoyed by families worldwide for entertainment purposes and to inform as well from movies to the news.
  • The future of TV could be very exciting for our kids or our kids kids and seems it will evolve into a projected image rather than an actual screen.

Cons
  • Early days of TV were pretty abysmal! Imagine watching your favorite shows today in B&W with fussy static and broken images.
  • The TV is blamed for being a "convo killer" in the home and even making people lazy by sitting down watching it all day.
  • There are some good shows on, some old classic repeats and good movies. But most of it is just pure dribble and fluff!
  • The TV convinces people that what they see and hear said is the truth but most people are just oblivious to that possibility and even deny the media "alter the truth" before it's aired.

Allows multitasking

For a complete entertainment experience, I would prefer watching television. However, I'm pretty busy nowadays and I seldom have time to watch TV. And when I do watch TV, I feel like I'm unable to do a lot of tasks that I'm supposed to be doing.

Radio on the other hand allows me to do other things while still being serenaded by music or informed with the latest news. I'm able to do a lot of tasks around the house while the radio is on. It helps me be awake and alert. It's also my favorite companion when I'm driving alone.

TV for me

The radio is fine, but TV is good for visual stimulation. I think it is one of the best ways to make sure you have what you are looking for when you want to see what the characters are doing. You can listen to TV instead, without watching. It is good as background noise.

Simple.

I mean, you can easily watch a lot of music shows on the TV too, however what you can't watch a lot of series on the radio. From another viewpoint, you can't bring the TV anywhere with yourself, unless we count smartphones and similar devices. The radio is cool and all, because you can listen to a lot of nice radio stations, but the TV offers a lot more variety when it comes to what you can watch and not be bored.

Tv

I rarely listen to the radio and when I'm in my room I watch TV from time to time, maybe if I had a radio I could listen to it regularly but I don't sadly.

TV

If the question is which one is more popular, then the answer is watching TV, at least in my Country. I prefer to watch TV, I only use the radio to listen to music. Almost everybody in the city where I live owns a TV and a lot of people have cable. Normally, people listen to the radio in their way to work or when they are going back home, but when they arrive at their homes, they watch TV for hours.

TV

I'm not a fan of listening to radio, I prefer scrolling and flipping my phones up and down , than tuning in to a radio channel to hear music, talk more of listening to news. I would even think twice, before clinching unto my TV set, I can watch the television from now to tomorrow without bating an eye.

The radio is dead!

WIth all of the modern technology I highly doubt that 40% of the earths population still listens to the radio and that's probably stretching it. And the same can be said for TV hardly anyone watches regular TV anymore, most people either DVR of watch Netflix or some other streaming service.

Best of both worlds

I like TV better because you can watch and listen at the same time. Even when I'm just listening to a podcast, I prefer it if it has a video because from time to time I can glance up and be able to see something whereas if I'm just listening to the radio or an audio only podcast I wouldn't have that option. It would be much better if radio shows these days could also just put up some cameras because why not?

TV PLEASE

I seriously cannot recall the last time I ever listened to a radio. Oh yes now I remembered, that I actually listened to radio last using it in a phone enabled radio device. I don't have any old school radio system in my house. It's practically just TV all the way. The visual effects of television views is what gives it edge over radio. Personally, I can watch television all day long.

TV for me!

I rarely listen to radio nowadays since we do have a smartphone now, we can easily download and select any music that we want to listen, unlike on radio which is not. I love to watch TV mainly for news, entertainment, and all sort of genre. TV is gonna be for life!

I listen to the radio all day while I am at work. I like to have it on when I am working. I also listen to it when I am in my car. In the evenings or when I am home I enjoy watching TV. I do not watch much TV because I spend a lot of my time online rather then watching TV. There are a few good series that I have to watch. I guess for the most part I tend to listen to the radio more then I do watch TV. I watch most stuff online but then again it is usually only for a few hours a day where the radio is on for most of the day.

I prefer to watch the television, it a great tool for the family unity.can remember in my home the only time you see everyone complete is when a family oriented series is ongoing on the television. My girls will be so quiet and united even my husband will join us in the sitting room and we will enjoy the movie as a family.I don't think anything unites us that way.So television all the way.

I honestly don't do any of these two nowadays. The radio has been something I've been actively avoiding because I like old school music and nowadays we can only hear these new hits which all sound the same. I rarely watch television because all we have is reality shows or news channels that will hide the truth from you. So I can't vote for this one.

Honestly, I like the two options... However, those are things I practically don't it do anymore. Of course sometimes I still listen to the radio or watch television, but my frequency is practically non-existent (haha) because my laptop can do all those things.

These days I am not listening to the radio, I watch TV regularly. During my teen years, I used to listen to the radio too much. I say too much because when ever I was in my home, I would always tune to a radio station that played my favorite music. I also listened to the radio discussion as well as news on the radio. In my younger days radio was my primary source of information and entertainment. These days, I watch TV for entertainment and information.

I think I've only listened to a radio if some of my coworkers has it playing when they are getting bored of the work just to stimulate their mind when we really have a very busy and tiring day. We rarely watched television nowadays also because our television is quite broken and can't get a good reception. The good thing is our internet is quite fast as we had a fiber connection so we just mostly watch or download movies or YouTube videos to play on our smart phones.

I was a radio buff when I was younger. Me and my transistor radio were inseparable when I am at home. It was my companion when I would review for an exam early at dawn, when I am relaxing, or sometimes when I am sleeping. But when I started working, it seems that I was weaning away from music and was slowly shifting to tv. Perhaps it is the sign of the times. And now, it is more of tv for me than listening to music. My only music hour is when I am driving alone especially when the traffic is heavy on the road. I still enjoy music though, particularly the old songs.

This is sort of confusing. I mean, TV is popular all over the world and consumes so much of leisure time, but then again, people love music and also there is the radio in people's vehicles. Therefore, in this case, I'd have to do some research before making a decision and it could even be a tie.

This is a difficult choice for me because I really like both. Usually I like to work listening to some music and whenever I'm driving I just turn on the radio. On the other hand, I like TV to watch my movies and series and nothing more besides. I prefer to choose both, but with the condition of always being able to choose the radio or TV programming.

I only listen to radio when I don't have electricity power or mostly when I travel to the village to see my grandmother as well.

I prefer to listen to the radio when i am doing some work or a lot of work, it helps me to relax well in doing my work properly. But if you are watching tv and doing an important work at the same time then you will end up not doing the work well because what you see distracts your attention easily than when you listen to Radio, so the radio can allow for multitasking .
