Online newspapers are making printed newspapers obsolete
Where before it is the printed newspaper that is the standard medium to learn of the news, things are changing in the news-making world. More than 10 years ago when the major newspapers came out with their online version that is an abridged edition of the printed version. It is practical to read the news using the phone so why buy the printed version. The major dailies are now investing heavily on their online version with promos and hourly updates. Where before the battle among the newspapers is about the circulation, now the warfront is the its or views of their websites. Would you agree that in the near future, the printed newspaper will be dwindling until it will be exclusive to offices and hotels only.

I couldn't remember the last time I read an offline newspaper considering the ease with which I can access online newspaper on the internet. Also, there is no much difference with both and that's the reason I always feel at home reading online newspaper instead of having to spend to get the offline newspaper.

I also have the same opinion! I have not bought paper newspapers for many years. I think newspapers still exist just to cater to the small number of people who still do not use the internet.

I honestly don't know too many people that still read traditional printed newspapers. The last time I read a traditional newspaper was five years ago while I was in college, because someone handed them out for free outside the train station I used to commute every morning. The thing is that I don't really even read online newspapers all that much. What I typically do is just browse the news section of sites like Reddit, and they link to specific articles from all around the internet. You won't catch me sitting at one news site and scrolling through their articles.

The web world is capturing the whole world and the same holds for the ebooks. Ebooks are widely replacing text books. The newspapers are getting replaced by online news text. The best part is that they are handy and can be accessed anywhere and anytime.

There are still a variety of people who prefer reading real newspapers. The printed versions ate must for them, especially with the morning tea or coffee. Such people are not comfortable with readi g online and like to feel the newspapers in actual.

It's true that most people now rely on online news which is always updating thereby delivering recent news. The social media is more accessible to a lot f people than buying and reading traditional newspaper. In the near future, newspaper will be totally obsolete.

I also have the same thinking. These days I was thinking about it. I think in the future, newspaper salesmen will have to get a new job. Graphic artists and publishers will also have to get their business back, just as it did with movie franchises in the past.

Well I'm not one of those people who really like to read news on the internet and browse those online news site as I find it not really necessary to read from those if you can just watch news on the television. I spend most of time online on working and finding jobs that pays you online so I don't have the luxury to read news that doesn't really affect how I earn online. For me, stories that float around the net cannot be trusted hundred percent of the time rather than news that can be seen on the newspaper and/or television.

Yes this is true because majority of the people uses online news papers now a days it is more practical and less hassle, in just few taps away we can now see the news through online. but still some people prefer the physical old news papers i think day love the feeling of reading in real papers not on virtual papers.

The printed newspapers will still continue to make the stands and sell because not all the news can be found online , you will still need to get more news from the printed newspaper.

In fact I also think print newspapers are still good local information resources. I think they can reduce over the years, but probably will not be 100% replaced by the internet.

I know that most of the people are reading the online newspapers, I am one of them mostly because I do not have time in the morning to buy a newspaper or magazine. But to be honest I love to read printed newspapers, I grow up reading magazines, animated papers, newspapers and I am sure that reading online is not comparing with reading a printed paper.

I no longer read newspapers. I can easily get my daily news for free on the internet. I have subscribed to various online news channels and the advantage is that you get up-to-date information. However, there are some people who still rely on newspapers as they have no access to the latest technologies. I think it has something to do with age too. My grandpa is 88 years old and even though he likes to surf on the internet when it comes to news he prefer to read his newspapers.

Buying newspapers is something that I gave up doing probably around a decade ago now - simply because - I really can't see much point or even justify the expense of buying physical copies of newspapers - when not only is the majority of their content available in seconds via the internet - but online information is generally way more up to date and especially when it comes to news items - its also much more preferable to read them online - particularly as you can at least select the topics that are of interest to you - rather than have to wade through pages and pages of subject matter that is of absolutely no interest whatsoever.

Apart from that - as there are very few places where I live that do still sell newspapers and those that do have an extremely limited choice - I would most likely have a hard time finding any worth reading - if I did want to buy one.

online news makes the news more interesting to read because not only it contains images but also video footage of some incidents captured by the cctv or a bystander who happened in the place of incident and able to capture video from his/her mobile phone. There are also online news websites that allows their readers to post their comment on particular news. It could also be shared in social media websites. And the fact that you doesn't have to spend money to read news specially if you are connected in free wifi.

I definitely agree. For me it is the question, why spend money on the newspaper when I can find the same exact news online, without having to pay anything? In the old times, we were sort of "forced" to use the newspaper since the internet wasn't what it is now. We couldn't just go online because hardly any home even had the internet. Now it's all different and anybody can find any news online without just few keystrokes.

Obviously, everybody can notice this change. Ever since the extension of newspapers to the online medium, printed newspaper has lost its sales potential and lots of people who deal in the sale of newspapers to the motorists and pedestrians have drastically lost zeal in the business. Most people don't carry papers around any longer in as much as news can be accessed right from the mobile phone. It does not even cost a dime to access newspapers from some phone devices depending the type of news app installed, though some still pay to access news online.

Yeah this has been on the horizon for awhile now. More and more print papers are finding it difficult and in some cases, impossible to stay in business with online news sites alive and thriving... and multiplying. However, much like the post office when compared to email, I believe print papers will find a way to stay in business in some cases. ALL OF THEM... won't die.

Agreed. While some of the older folks still prefer the physical newspaper most of the younger generation will choose online news of the printed version. And it's a good thing in my opinion. I spares paper and avoid littering

Very few people I know read the newspaper and now they are only printed on Wednesday and Saturday and Sunday. And out of the few people I know that buy the paper they only buy it for the coupons. Because everything that is in the newspaper can be found online and there is no need to sit there trying to find the news you want. With everything being online you can just read the headlines and go right to the news stories that interest you.

I rely on internet and TV for news. However, I have also subscribed to a daily newspaper in my office. I also believe that online newspapers have replaced the printed newspapers. These days, subscribing to the printed newspaper is becoming more of a financial burden. I have subscribed to a printed newspapers in my office because we advertise on the local newspapers sometimes. The newspaper also provide local information which is not available online.

Newspaper circulation has dwindled but I don't think we'll see it gone in the near future. Broadsheets will still be read by business people who can afford them, are used to getting their dose of the daily news while sipping coffee and having breakfast, and have other reasons for reading newspapers other than just getting the news. Tabloids which have remained affordable will still be read by the masses who don't have unlimited access to the internet.

Online news are more up to date and they can rectify errors, and add information more readily. Printed papers still have a function, but people are more reluctant to pay for them when they can get news online for free and that is more accurate. There are countries where people don't have access to televisions or computers so physical papers are necessary still. I recall when I was living in a remote area with little internet access and no television I found out Nelson Mandela had died in a local newspaper. So local papers are definitely useful especially for news in the area and for those who don't have the internet.

I also agree that online newspapers are making printed newspapers to go extinct. Nowadays, it is better to read news online since it is always available and very convenient than going out to buy newspapers. The news papers online always have the current news and can be edited and updated if anything changes. With online newspapers, you can choose to download or just read the news blog without paying anything.

I one hundred percent agree, and am over the moon. At least we can stop killing trees. I would be interested to see who still buys printed papers. What sense does that make? You can get the digital copy cheaper and you don't really have to drag them around. Any time there is breaking news you can get it instantly. You also can read from many newspapers around the world. If I were newspapers I would transfer my business online and charge much less, so I can get more readers. The whole economies of scale argument. Newspapers are complaining they are running out of business. Please be more innovative.
