Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean
We are going to Disneyland! Well, not really, not physically right now, but we are going to talk a bit about Disneyland and, in more details, about one of the most popular attraction of the most magical place on Earth. You probably all know Pirates of the Caribbean - not the movies, they came out after the ride (it's something that people often get wrong), but the original boat adventures between various pirates. And to think that the original idea was of a walktrough museum with some statues of pirates and other baddies! Maybe it would have been interesting in the 60s, but nowadays people expect more from Disney! Luckily, since the opening Pirates of the Caribbean became the ride that we know today. A boat ride between pirates, boats, battles and of course the most catchy song ever, "Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A pirate's life for me!". You probably started to sing it right now!

You can find the ride in almost all the major Disney parks around the world, altough with some minor differences. But it's still the same, and you will travel through caves and grottos, into a city where a auction is taking place, a burning city (probably the most spectacular scene in some versions) and of course some dungeons with the famous three pirates trying to take the cell keys from a dog.

The first ride to open was of course the one in California, followed by the one in Orlando in the huge Walt Disney World. Then Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris and just a few years ago in the most recent Disney park, Shangai Disneyland. If you know something about Disney parks, you'll notice how in this list Hong Kong disneyland isn't mentioned, since the ride isn't present at all there.

Like I said, the movies came after the ride, but after the movies came out, the rides changed a bit: new special effects and animatronics of Jack Sparrow were added, and while some people didn't like the changes they are generally good effect. The version in Shangai, instead, is directly inspired by the movies.

Any fans of Pirates, any fans of Disney or anyone who want to have a good adventure with some nice effect should have this ride as their first stop during a visit in a Disney park.

  • One of the first and most popular dark ride ever
  • Catchy song
  • Incredible realistic animatronics
  • Can be found in almost any Disney park

  • The auction change was heavily changed recently, leading to some controversies
  • A lot of confusion about the relation between the ride and the movies
  • Some people didn't like the addition of the Jack Sparrow animatronic

Pirates of the Carribbean

All of the Disney Parks are great and amazing, and I love both of these rides but my vote has to go to Pirates of the Carribbean. It is so realistic and so colorful and musical it is just a fun ride.

I am huge fan of their series. And I'd love to check out the sets. And it would be interesting to see those sets and the people around. And it can be fun to go with the family. You can see that many people would surely go. So I would want to go there too. I guess that's something is in my wish list.

If you're going to go to a Disney park, they you might as well go to an attraction that's familiar with Disney such as Pirates of the Caribbean, as a fan of the series, it's something that's most likely pretty fun to try and I bet that it's going to be well made.

I just love pirates and don't really like scary stuff, so me voting for the pirates of the Caribbean is obvious. The whole atmosphere makes you feel like you're just living during that era. The musical around you is also very nice.

Who doesn't like to ride on a pirate ship. With the success of the movie thanks to Johnny Depp who is one of my favorite stars since I saw his movie Edward Scissorhands decades ago, the Disney ride which was themed after Pirates of the Caribbean would remind me how good the movie was.

Haunted Mansion

Haunted Mansion
Disney parks aren't exactly known for horror: there is nothing truly scary in them, and any person ,from very young kid to very old adults, can enjoy the ride and the whole atmosphere of the park. Or the atmosphere of certain rides, like the Haunted Mansion... despite the name, there is nothing truly scary in it, like jumpscares or horrible monsters, but the atmosphere that you can find insdie the ride, and the little amount of creepy that can be found in it is something without equal.

In most of version of the ride, the journey start in a elevator, or either a stretching room, where the paintings slowly changes in distrubing ways. All while the narrator of the ride, the infamous Ghost Host, talk to you as he will do during the whole ride. Thanks to a unique tranport system called OmniMover, you will be left in front of creepy doors, graves, ghosts, a crystal ball with a incredible effect, dancing ghost and finally a really catchy happy song, Grim Grinning Ghosts. The whole soundtrack of the ride is pretty amazing too, actually!

Unlike Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion is present in other Disney parks in a slightly different version: in Orlando and California is almost the same (altough just the California one offer you a different look at it during Christmas, when it's themed around Nightmare Before Christmas). In Paris and Hong Kong is completely different: the European version is called Phantom Manor, and have a different story with different effects, and a even creepier atmosphere in some parts. The Hong Kong Disneyland version is called Mystic Manor and it's totally unrelated to the original ride, since it's set in a explorer's house where a monkey accidentally animated all the items in it with a magic artifact. So if you want to experience the original ride, you'll have to travel a bit if you live far away, and if you want to experience every version of it, well.. good luck.

In any case, whatever the version is, the special effects are incredible and the atmosphere is unique. It's a must-do in any visit to any Disney park.

  • Amazing soundtrack
  • Incredible special effects
  • Unique atmosphere
  • It looks great even on the outside
  • Each park have a very different version

  • Some parts of it can be pretty hard
  • The moving system break up pretty often
  • If you want to see every single version of it, it might be a hard task

I haven't been to the Disneyland before only Gardaland. As much as I love the Pirates of the Carribean I have to give my vote to the Haunted Mansion.

I loved visiting haunted, creepy type of things all my life. Even as a child! My mother always worried because I was so small but I didn't care. I had a blast getting scared.

Disneyland is famous for their high-quality entertainment so I hope that I do get to experience it at least once in my life.

Scarier - more exciting!

Even though I haven’t as yet been to Disneyland and both from the description sound as though they would be great experiences - I would without a doubt pick this one - The Haunted Mansion over Pirates of The Caribbean any day.

Simply because - not only have I always enjoyed watching and participating in seriously scary things that really make me jump - but as this sounds like it would actually do that and some - its definitely the way more exciting of the two for me!

scary is better

I'm not that into pirates and pirate themed entertainment and I'm more of a horror fan so I choose this one. I remember riding this when I was very young and I was very scared but now that I'm older I can appreciate it more for the fun ride it is. I also like how much technology went into this and I find that very impressive especially back when technology wasn't this advanced.

More fun than scary

I like haunted houses, provided they're more fun than scary. I watched the movie Haunted Mansion and enjoyed it. By contrast, I am not that thrilled with the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. So as a tourist I'd prefer the Haunted Mansion attraction.

The Haunted Mansion

As a horror movie, film and genre fan - I'd have to say that I enjoyed The Haunted Mansion more.

I have never been to Disneyland and I hope that one day I will get to visit this wonderful place. I have read the description above and I prefer the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. I enjoyed watching the film series and my favourite character is Jack Sparrow. This ride seems to be a really fun ride which I am sure my whole family will like. As for the Haunted Mansion, I am never going to visit this one. I am chicken-hearted by nature and visiting this mansion will for sure freak me out.

I've been to Disneyworld in Orlando, and I never ever stop riding the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom, not once! More than horror, is absolutely funny to me, the visual effects, the sounds, and they always add some funny things on it. It's perfect for the whole family, you can ride it in very comfy wide chairs, so you don't have to leave your kids aside. I have to admit it, I become a little kid once I enter those parks, but the Haunted Mansion has a special place on my rides list.

Never been to Disneyland but it still in my to-do list because I have seen a documentary about Disneyland and I have always told myself I will get there but for the discussion here, I will prefer the haunted mansion,it will be fun experiencing all the scary and creepy things, the sound effect would make it spookier,I know the environment in its entirety both in and out will have this scary effect in an awesome going be weird but in an exciting way/

I think Disney sets are definitely worth checking out. Out of the harry potter, pirates and other series. I'd definitely go for the pirates set. And it is going to be a good time to make use of the pirates. It looks like a good set in that case. I am sure that there are plenty of good characters to look at as well. It'd be fun to explore the places.

I'm also a huge fan of the pirates series. I have watched the first four but the hopes for the fifth film were so high that when it didn't meet the expectations, critics panned it out. Whilst I didn’t hate the movie as much as most people, I will admit it wasn’t as good as the other four, and I liked the other four. I am actually a massive fan of these films, I love the swashbuckling feel and the adventure they bring. But yes if I would choose then a pirates house would be the better choice even that could turn out to be scary.

The Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favorite movies. I have watched all movies in this series. Therefore, given a chance, I have a desire to go on Pirates of the Caribbean ride. I have heard about the movie Haunted Mansion, however, I have not watched this movie. I enjoy horror movies, therefore I am sure I will also enjoy haunted mansion ride.

The haunted mansion looks more exciting.

I prefer scary places because I'm there for the thrill and excitement. I'm okay with Pirates of the Caribbean but it won't grab my attention as much. I'm sure people like exploring haunted places specifically, theme parks. I enjoy going to Disneyland and so I look forward to visiting this in the future. I think a few of my friends could get scared if the effects were good enough.

Pirates of the Caribbean started as one of Disney's most family franchises and got lost over three sequences. The quality drop, however, was not followed by the box office, which only grew. After a rest of six years, the series returns with the Revenge of Salazar without the dramatic weight of the last two films and with a Jack Sparrow visibly tired. The fatigue of the character and Johnny Depp is wide open on the screen, but does not detract from the uncompromising afternoon session proposed by the studio. With episodic air, this fifth feature has a simple script, full of predictable twists, but with honest execution.

The decision to tell a story from Jack Sparrow's past gives the impression that the pirate will be the center of attention. This doesn `t happen. Although he guides the narrative, he divides the screen with Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), villain Salazar (Javier Bardem) and especially with the new couple protagonist, Carina (Kaya Scodelario) and Henry (Brenton Thwaites). The plot mixes the revenge of the Spanish official, with a search for identity and redemption by the two youngest of the cast. One is the rebellious son of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and the other is a young scientist who tries to give the feminine air to the journey of the pirates.

I have been to Disneyland Hongkong and Universal Studios in Singapore several times. I had taken the rides there except for the roller coaster. But for a dark ride that is scary, I don’t think I will like it because I came to the theme park to enjoy and not to be scared. I understand that the young ones are so excited to experience those rides so maybe I can consider myself an old woman who is scared to avoid taking those rides.
