Public transport is important

Public transport is important
If every person had a car the traffic would be even worse than it is now. Traffic jams are getting bigger and bigger and if we don't invest in public transport more people will keep choosing driving a car. If the public transport network was bigger it would be more comfortable to use it. Cities, towns and villages should treat this subject with a great importance.

There is a definite need!

I am at the point in my live where I can not work any longer because of a disability and I live on a fixed income and my funds are low. And I need public transportation to get around. I have a public transportation disability card and it costs $17 a month for unlimited rides or $0.50 a ride. And without it I would be stranded.

Public transport is great

Public transport is great. I think most people in the UK actually use public transport to get to work because it is just a lot easier. The traffic in the mornings is just awful and if everyone tried to drive to work then traffic would be at a standstill and people wouldn't be able to get to work on time. Public transport in the UK is also pretty clean and on time (most of the time) so it is definitely a great method of transportation to use
Posted by kingcool52 on 10-06-2017

This is one of the basic needs

I can't believe somebody disagreed in this debate. Haha! Although I seldom commute because I have a car, I find public transportation vital in our everyday lives. Just imagine if all of us were able to own a car. Where would we park all our vehicles? Imagine if we didn't have a car and there was no public transportation. How would you arrive at your destination?

Anyways, not everybody can own a car. That's why a lot of people commute. And it's already a part of the lives of a lot of people. Without public transport, a lot of us would not be able to go to work, or school, or wherever you want to go. I use public transportation every now and then even if I have a car. It's great that public transport is very accessible, thus making it easy to travel from one point to another.

I couldn't agree more. Public transportation is crucial in today's society with the constant growth of car usage and traffic jams - public transportation is the right way to go because it's much cheaper, transports many people from point A to point B and is less polluting.

Sadly, my country's public transportation system is pretty bad and needs a big overhaul. I wish we'd invest more money into this area instead of buying useless things.

Posted by Mehano on 10-06-2017

If the public transportation system is managed well, people do not actually need to get a car, and then it'll actually save more money and it'll be better for the environment as well. Moreover, for those young people who are not old enough to drive or those who can't afford to buy a car, public transport is really important for them. So I think no matter how, public transport is still very important and I think the government should make this more accessible to everyone.
Posted by kaka135 on 10-24-2018

Not everyone can afford the transport of their own. And often some of the people have their financial issues. And if you see that part. You can consider that public transport has it's set of the limits. Because population and the supply may not always work. But yes it should be there. And people have to respect the public transport.
Posted by overcast on 10-06-2017

The traffic problem is only getting worse with each passing day. Nowadays the majority of people possess a car in my country and this the reason why explains the rising traffic congestion. Most people prefer to travel by cars in my country as one cannot rely on public transport as it is quite inefficient. It is possible to change this scenario. In this case the government will have have to come forward with better plans. An efficient public transport system will require extensive investment but it will help resolve the traffic problem.
Posted by Pixie on 10-06-2017

I agree!

That is a true fact, here in my country almost every person has its own car, and the capital is full of cars. Ower mayor suggested that we should leave our cars at home and use the public transportation more than our own car but the people don't want it, so our city is crowded and full of pollution!
Posted by wallet on 10-07-2017

Needs heavy investment

Public transportation is one of the most important infrastructural concerns of the modern world. We desperately need to invest in modernizing ours in the US. They need to become more ubiquitous, reliable, and run longer. The state of ours transportation infrastructure in most American cities is deplorable., even where people laud it.
Posted by JaiGuru on 10-06-2017

Yes, public transport is of the utmost importance because a large part of the population (anywhere in the world) belongs to a relatively complicated economic class (let's put it this way). Without mentioning on the fact that the reality of each country is very peculiar (when compared to each other) and makes clear the necessity of this means of transport.
Posted by wiseagent on 10-06-2017

No other choice.

This one is obvious, public transport is one of the most handiest things of our society, bigger cities are a pain, when driving a car especially in certain hours when the traffic is horrible and you can be very late for whatever work you have to do. Public transport is also not that expensive, especially if you are a student, of course it depends on the country, but it should be cheaper than a car or a bike.
Posted by manmad on 10-06-2017

Of course!!

Public transport is very important, its care and optimization can do more than improve it and make it works perfectly (mechanically speaking), also, it helps to create a comfortable environment for users because they use public transport to go to work, to school or to home so, they can arrive to their destiny place a little bit more happy and less tired. Another pro about public transport is it helps to earth because it can transport a lot of people so, they don't need to use their own cars regularly (reduces pollution) and it also important for people who don't have the possibility to buy their own car.
Posted by cubo on 10-09-2017

Yes, it is

Of course public transport is important. It means less use of cars and motorcycles which equals less air pollution and less traffic jams, it's also more affordable than using the car all the time to go from one place to another (because of the gas price). Also, not everybody can buy a car, so public transportation is neccesary and accessible to anyone who need it. That's why it's so important to maintain and ensure a good system of public transportation.
Posted by Dkaraly on 10-06-2017

A lot of people use it to mobilize in the city. Not all people have the opportunity to buy a car, you can use it if your car is broken and your choice is to use public transport to go to your work, home or wherever you want to go or even if the person is an immigrant the only way to move on the city is the public transport. I think that it is really important for everyone.
Posted by Nico2017 on 10-05-2017

Public transport is great and it might solve a lot of problems, I wish I lived in a city where it worked properly because here in south Italy it's very rare to find a proper public transport. Even our train company, Trenitalia, is always late and will make you pay more than you actually should for a service that's pretty bad. So yes, if it works public transport can solve a lot of problems.
Posted by Tania997 on 10-06-2017

Totally true!

Public transport is very important to us especially in our country. The road in our country is not that wide unlike in other countries that they put a lot of effort just to build a road that will not cause any traffic. If public transport is not made, maybe it is now a dilemma. Everywhere is traffic.
Posted by blank629 on 10-06-2017

Lived Both Scenarios...

I used to live in a city with outstanding public transit and have long since moved to a region that doesn't support it. Public transportation is necessary because it A) allows upward mobility by letting people get from point a to point b and B) is affordable so that people who can't afford car payments, increasing gas prices and insurance can get to their jobs. Not only that but it also was a great mode of transport in and out of the downtown core where parking is impossible to find and space is limited. Plus there's entire one way streets that get confusing unless you know the area well. Moving to a non public transportation area was a huge shocker. People here don't have upward mobility and despite the city being almost equal in population to the one I moved from, the lack of public transit has made people locked into certain areas, unable to access better jobs in other parts of the city because they don't have any other transportation means. So overall the quality of life declines and poverty rises and the better jobs they can move onto gets sold to people out of state because the companies think that there aren't people in the local area who can fill those jobs...when there are but lack of transportation makes it near impossible to get to.
Posted by Rhodolite on 10-06-2017

I agree

Yes you are right with many public transportation i think we could minimize the heavy traffic because most average people don't have a car so they prefer to use public transportation to get to there destination. in that case the traffic will be minimize specially on private vehicles. in hour country traffic is very serious problem right now i hope we can have massive public transportation to at-least minimize the traffic problem.
Posted by tophew on 10-06-2017

Of course it is

There are places one can't possibly go to with his or her personal private car. In as much as it's very comfortable and relaxed to ride in one's own car or vehicle, there are certain situations whereby public transportation would serve you better than a private car.

Just like you mentioned already, if everyone has a private car and drive it out on the road the same day, I definitely don't think that 99 percent of all the people would be able to get home or to their proposed destination on time as a result of congestion of the road with traffic.

So therefore, public transportation is definitely good in the society as it not just reduce traffic congestion, it also serves as a means of job opportunity and employment for those in the transportation business.

Posted by Heatman on 10-05-2017

I agree that public transport is important. Not every people living has their own vehicles. Public transport is a way where those people who dont have their own cars should come in their work fast and safe that is why public transport are implemented.
Posted by mark86 on 11-21-2018

Totally Agree

Here in our country, commuting is really a thing. Only a small percent of our population have their own cars, others commute. I agree that it could help us beat the traffic since we're lessening the number of cars on the road. It is also like sharing your ride with other people which is some kind of fun. Although, commuting might be a littlt bit hard, it is really a great big help for those people who can't afford to bug their own cars. On the same time, they'll be able to lessen the traffic and save up some gas.
Posted by ajahcuizon on 09-30-2018

Public transport

I vote for the importance of public transport. You can't go to your desired destination if not for transportation. You will just have to sit inside the public transportation.
Posted by jeffreyjose48 on 10-24-2018

Public transportation is really needed especially to those who are needed to travel to work or to school. I mean really? If there would be no public transportation how are we suppose to get where we want to go besides walking or having our very own personal service? Not all of us can afford a vehicle nor can we walk especially if it is far away. It's important to have a public transportation so that all of us, the young and old, the wealthy and poor, can get to our destination with just a minimal fee.
Posted by YoloBoy on 11-19-2018

Of course

Not everyone can afford a car. Even if they could manage to buy one the maintenance, the gas, the toll fees, and the insurance would be hard to pay for. Public transport is a necessity, even until now. Not everyone has the physical strength to walk. Some people even have to travel to other cities for their work. So yes it's important.
Posted by knnon on 12-15-2018

Not necessarily

While it is definitely a valid mean of transportation I think that other means like bikes, eco-motorcycles and other alternative vehicles are better because They depend only on you.
Posted by Marvadaum on 10-05-2017

Not really

I think you can make anything possible in any city as long as you are able to plan it correctly and execute with competence. If public transportation is part of the plan then I would agree that it is indeed useful, but I don't think it is entirely necessary as long as the planner has the foresight to make wide roads and the proper regulations. A lot of states in the US, for example, even though heavily populated, have no heavy traffic even without public transportation.
Posted by Wubwub on 01-31-2018

I totally agree, public transport should be provided adequately for so that citizens wouldn't be stranded at any station whether train or bus. With public transport people would not really need a private car that would lead to so many vehicles on the road and vehicular accident would be reduced.
Posted by lovely on 10-05-2017
I suppose you have a point there. Towns are getting more and more congested and cars are not only bombarding the city but the level of pollution is also increasing as a result. A good public transportation which should include sizable buses and even public parking lots and increased traffic patrol with restricted access to civilian cars in the heart of town where the town hustle is intense would sure make a great impact. That would of course come with some challenges as sometimes waiting on public transportation is very time consuming and frustrating plus there are those who do not live on the main bus route that may experience even a bit more difficulty having to make their way to these terminals that may not be so close to their home. Nevertheless, it would be a step in the right direction towards alleviating public transport issues and traffic problems in the city.
Posted by Joteque on 10-05-2017
Asides putting in more funds into the public transport system, what more can be done to make people take public transport? Increase the cost of cars? Ensure that people don't get paid good money to afford purchasing a car? just thinking out loud.

I think it's really important that public transport system be given more attention and make more favorable to encourage it's use by the populace in order to curb traffic jams.

But still, the choice lies with us. No matter how big or suitable pubic transport becomes, people will always buy cars and choose to drive instead of going public...there's little or nothing that can be done about that.
Posted by Rumu on 10-05-2017
Public transportation is one of the sure ways someone can be able to save money out of transporting by air or via sea, which is time wasting. Also, for those that don't have the car yet they can depend on travelling using the public vehicles for it, is the only hope they've got to reach to their destination.
Posted by Barida on 10-05-2017
Public transportation, while maybe not as enjoyable as commuting in your own personal vehicle, does ease congestion, reduce emissions. Public transportation allows you to relax, read or nap during that commute instead of fighting and stressing and feeling the road rage. Public transport is really important in our society and it should be provided good and quality mass transport. Growing population especially those countries over populated should provide public transport to ease congested everyday traffic. Travel is cheaper than owning and operating a car. Reduces pollution and road congestion the more people who travel by train, tram or bus, the fewer cars on the road.
Posted by honeybabe on 10-05-2017
I cannot imagine any city surviving without public transport. There are thousands of people who use these modes of transport on daily basis. These modes are cheap, easy to avail and hassle free. Moreover, most of them cannot afford their own vehicle so they have to opt for the public means.

And even if in future everyone becomes capable of attaining his own personal vehicle the pathetic state of traffic is beyond my imagination. The present scenario demands an immediate investment on good means of public transport. The roads are already overloaded with vehicles and most of the journey time goes in passing through the traffic jams. Public transport is the prime need of the society at present.
Posted by amitkokiladitya on 10-06-2017
Public Transport is undeniably important to everyone. Not just important but also essential to the everyday use of everyone. Public Transport is the mode of travel for most people, so it's importance cannot be questioned nor debated.
Posted by DanoCath on 10-06-2017
Public transport is truly important for so many reasons. There are occasions when we may get stranded and must meet up with certain schedules without excuses. What comes up if there is no public transport? What's going to be our fate if there is no alternative? Your personal vehicle may develop some sort of mechanical fault unexpectedly. The vehicle may break down due to minor technical errors. In situations like this, we have no alternative other than boarding a public tranport. Meeting up with fixed work schedules becomes feasible.
Posted by potentialwriter on 10-06-2017
public transportation is important especially in the big cities. People have used public transportation for years, and I don't see it ending any time soon, but I will say that since the ride share business has grown public transportation has slowed down a bit in certain parts of the US.
Posted by kamar19 on 10-06-2017
Absolutely, public transportation is a must. I've been living in a city, using public transportation every day all my life, and I had the chance to move to another place for a while. This city was a tourist center and can you believe it doesn't have an efficient public transportation system? I know, rental car companies love the idea, but what about the regular on foot tourist? I was absolutely disappointed and stressed about it, so moved back to my old city with a lot of buses and public stops.
Posted by ballyhara on 10-06-2017
I think population increase is happening all over the world. And people are going through the phase of the population issues. And for this to handle the govt and private companies need to come up with the business of transport. That seems to be the case public transport. I have learned from most of the populated places. That things such as that needs to be properly managed. That's the job of the government though.
Posted by overcast on 10-06-2017
Do you know that in Malaysia and Singapore, Grab a cab or Uber have been implemented? It is a service where people call for a car, travel together with strangers to the same destination? Passengers pay the driver in cash and can save transport fee and time. Some of them could even travel in mercedez benz , volvo or BMW for the same price as regular saloon cars. This is a good move to reduce purchase of new cars, reduce traffic and carbon monoside
Posted by peachpurple on 10-06-2017
I use public transit every day to travel to and from work. It is much cheaper then taking my own vehicle. With my own vehicle I have to pay pass and monthly parking when adds up to more then the transit bus costs me. I don;t have to deal with the headaches of the traffic and there is no wear and tear on my vehicle. Also to encourage more people to use public transportation we can claim the costs as a dedication when we fill out our taxes every year so then you get a part of it back. It is a win win situation.
Posted by Sue on 10-06-2017
I think they both have merits in their own place and position. Public transport is in no way a bad thing since it reduces traffic and is a lot more eco-friendly. There's to say that the reduction in traffic is a good thing, but a good thing for who? Like if everyone is getting behind public transport to reduce traffic, who are we reducing traffic for exactly? Though none of that really matters and there is no point in speculating who it benefits. Public transport is a great thing for people who can't afford their own car but still need to get around.
Posted by AlexHarris on 10-06-2017
It's great when it's done right, but either way it really is still important. I think public transport is much better for me and I prefer it to driving my own car, although admittedly there are days when I prefer the independence and convenience of driving a car more. Still, if public transportation is done incorrectly, the government's incompetence really shows and unfortunately, the masses are the ones who suffer as the ones in charge are rich enough to never have to use it themselves.
Posted by Wubwub on 10-06-2017
Yes, mass transit is the way to save the environment and also to keep us connected with one another. These are the options that you might look forward to. It is simply one of the great way that you can reduce pollution and save the environment. It is simply one of the best ways to get us where we are going.
Posted by kgord on 10-06-2017
It's a mean of ease for the general public that they have subways, buses and transits arount the metropolitan cities. Even for someone who could afford own, he could not take it to the new cities where he travels. It is always better to use public transportation in the unfamiliar places even when you have one since the routes are not familiar. Finally, its most important for environment sake. Public transportation is critical, because every people in a certain community or a country might afford a vehicle but our environment will not afford it.
Posted by muaaz.93 on 10-06-2017
The government of all countries should try and invest more on public transport. Public transport has the capacity to help reduce a lot of traffic on the roads. Even if you have a car do not use the car on the road daily but use public transport to help in reducing the ever increasing traffic on the way.
Posted by babyright on 10-06-2017
Public transportation in my country sucks! really, it's so crappy, I think chickens get more space that we do, I wish it was a little better and more secure since I have to use it every single day. Also it's so expensive and uncofortable that I don't get how they come up with a new price every day. I think we should have better transportation and the goverment should provide it and invest in it.
Posted by Pink_Turtle on 10-06-2017
This topic is the current hot issue in our country because the metro is now suffering from excessive traffic on the roads. The usual 1 hour travel is now more than 2 hours. Even the government have admitted the problem and is now charting plans of a mass transport system. The present railway system is not effective so the plan is to construct a subway system similar to Hongkong. I hope the project will start soon because the heavy traffic on the roads is affecting our economy. And when that materializes then I wouldn’t be driving my car anymore. It would be a big savings, you know.
Posted by Corzhens on 10-07-2017
If everyone used the public transport, there would be less traffic congestion on the roads, there will less consumption of fossil fuel. Using public transport means you are saving natural resources and you are saving the environment. Road traffic is a great problem every where. This problem will be solved only when more people begin to use public transport.
Posted by vinaya on 10-08-2017
Well, it depends though. But for me, I don't like public transports, It's not my type of transportation because I'm someone who loves privacy and I love to have my own corner, where I do my thing, so public transport is only cool to me, because it's cheap and affordable.
Posted by Authord on 10-19-2017
Every government knows that public transport is important and is something that they have to make sure will be adequate to serve the needs of their citizens. Not everyone can drive and not everyone can afford to buy their own vehicle. There are more commuters than there are vehicle owners and so public transport is immensely important to bring people to work, school, and wherever. The government shouldn't just focus on providing the means for transportation but also in ensuring the public's safety on board the public transport system. Mass transportation systems are prone to terrorist attacks and should have adequate security to ward off possible attackers.
Posted by chatbox on 10-20-2017
Recently I have this one experience where I have noticed that people who were using the public transport were treated badly. And that affected their productivity. Something like that was a good way to understand that it can be something socially impact. So it depends on how people look at those with public transport users and the private vehicle owners. That's something we have to learn.
Posted by overcast on 12-14-2017
Not everyone can afford to have a luxury of having their own means of transportation, that's why we do have public transportation for people who don't have their own car. Public Transporation can also accommodate lots of people so if there are lesser private vehicles on the road, that will definitely lessen the traffic. If you're traveling alone, might as well commute and don't bring your car so you will help lessen the vehicles on the road. There should be a law that if one vehicle only has less than two passengers, they should not be allowed to travel on the main road to lessen the traffic. What's more great is if those office works can now do at home so it will definitely lessen the people that are traveling and definitely, it will help lessen the traffic.
Posted by ColdFlameChris on 01-31-2018
They call it telecommuting – working from home jobs. That is one big advantage for workers when they can do their jobs at home because there will be no need to travel. In our metropolis, it is a big ordeal to travel during rush hours that you have to add at least 2 hours for your usual 1 hour travel time. Imagine if the worker doesn’t need to go to office and with an internet connection he would do his job at home, what a big savings, not only for the worker, not only for the office, but also for the entire country.

Only few people have their own vehicles and for those who dont have the only choice of them is to ride in public transport to go wherever they go safe and comfortable and that is the reason why public transport is very important.
Posted by mark86 on 11-21-2018
I think it's important to have public transportation. Population is getting bigger day by day and not all vehicles can transport folks and they have to wait for another one to comeback so I guess every country need this just to make it more comfortable for others to travel from place to place.
Posted by nekonieden on 12-10-2018
Public transport is a huge help. Not everyone can afford to have their own cars and the traffic would be much more than it is today without public transport. Here in my country, much improvement is needed for public transport. It should be given emphasis to make the life of people more convenient and places easily accessible.
