Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin Pie
Thanksgiving is close, and you can already taste the upcoming turkey! But what is a full dinner or lunch without some dessert? The pumpkin pie is a traditional dessert from autumn season, featuring one of the protagonist of this time of the year - pumpkin themselves! Don't waste time now, what do you need?

  • Butter
  • Flour
  • Eggs
  • Icing sugar
And for the cream you'll need:

  • Pumpkin
  • Eggs
  • Honey
  • Ginger
  • Brown sugar
  • Nutmeg
  • Cinnamon
  • Cream
First of all you need to prepare the pastry of the pie, and mixing flour and butter (cut in pieces). Add the icing sugar! Next, add some eggs and quickly mix to obtain what would look like a small piece of bread. Put that in your refrigerator for half a hour. Meanwhile, the pumpkin is awaiting: cut it in small pieces, and remove all the seeds inside. Cook it for around 15 minutes, until it's soft. And now... smash it! After that, let it wait a bit (not in the fridge, outside). It's time to add more ingredient together in another recipient: eggs, brown sugar and honey first of all, and while mixing add the ginger and the nutmeg. Finally the cinnamon. Mix and mix again! Now the pumpkin should be ready, and you can put inside the thing you just created. Add the cream and mix again. You now have the cream that you will put later inside the pie. Now, about the pastry: use a rolling pin and make it flat enough, and after that (using the help of the rolling pin itself) put it on a mold for pies. Remember the pumpkin cream that you made earlier? Put it on this pastry, on this mold! Cook it for one hour until it have the right color, and let it take some air. When you put the pastry on the mold, you probably had to cut some pieces of it: don't throw them away! Make them have different shapes and put them on top of the cake you just bake, to have some nice decorations and details! Sure, you don't have too, but it will look nicer!

  • The uncooked base can last for even one month
  • A very autumnal taste
  • A traditions for the Thanksgiving holidays
  • You can add some decorations with the unused dough to make it look nicer

  • Not everyone love pumpkins
  • The cooked pie won't last too long in the fridge - 3 days maximum
  • A bit hard to prepare
  • Some ingredients might be expensive

The best among the rest!

The best pumpkin-recipe I have ever tasted! I'm not a very good fan of pumpkin but this recipe changed my view! Its taste is way better that you expect. It will surely push you to make some more. A bit hard to prepare? Oh no! It will surely be worth the wait. I love this sooooo much!

Try yours now and I'm sure you won't just settle for one!

Love pumpkin pie

I love pumpkin pie. I think that it goes well after a big meal on Thanksgiving. Never had sweet potato pie but to me it does not even sound good. I love pumpkin pie with a spoon of Cool whip. So good and refreshing. It has a nice flavor and it such a treat.

I don't think that I have ever had a sweet potato pie before. It doesn't sound bad but we can all agree that the pumpkin pie is so iconic when it comes to the Thanksgiving time.

I absolutely love a slice or two of pumpkin pie. Especially if my grandmother makes it and adds a bit of freshly whipped cream on top, delicious!

They are both good but I think I like pumpkin better. I am just more used to it. They are both very good and taste great with Thanksgiving.

Pumpkin Pie

I love eating pumpkin pie and this has always been my favorite. It is also very easy to make and my whole family actually like to have pumpkin pie. I have never tasted sweet potatoes pie before and I can't really comment about this one.

I associate pumpkin with autumn and I love the taste of a pumpkin pie with spices. It makes me feel cozy and warm. Pumplin pie will always win over sweet potatoes which are very bland to me. Pumpkin is the queen of autumnal season.

Pumpkin pie rules!

I love pumpkins. Pumpkin pie is one of my favorite foods. I remember when I was a kid, my mom always prepare foods for thanksgiving. And I always have one request every thanksgiving. That is the pumpkin pie. I like the way she cooks it. A whole pie is not enough for me because it is delicious. It always satisfy my cravings. Thanks to my mom for making pumpkin pie every thanksgiving.

You should try it also. And maybe I will try to make one by myself only. I hope my mom be proud to me.

Classically delicious

Pumpkin pie is one of the best and most iconic pies out there. It always reminds me of the holiday season too - so I get quite nostalgic for it!

Sweet Potatoes Pie

Sweet Potatoes Pie
The pumpkin pie is somehow part of the tradition... but I know, not everyone loves pumpkin. The alternative is not a diet, but another dessert! What about a sweet potatoe pie, for example? It's made with potatoes, a bit of oranges and have a very unique and peculiar flavor!

You'll need:

  • Butter
  • Flour
  • Icing sugar
  • Lemon
  • Eggs
And what's inside? Well for that you'll need:

  • Sweet potatoes
  • Eggs
  • Cream
  • Nutmeg
  • Brown sugar
  • Oranges
  • Cloves
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Cinnamon
First of all prepare the pastry, the basis of the pie: you just need to mix the flour, the butter and a bit of salt (yes, salt! Don't worry it will be good, since it will be just a tiny bit of salt - don't add too much). Mix everything and add sugar, and a piece of lemon. Break a pair of eggs, and quikcly mix everything again! Sure, it's a lot of mixing. From the dough you should now obtain what looks like a ball, and wrap it around a transparent film. While it's resting in the fridge - at least for half a hour, you don't have to rest, keep cooking! Peel the potatoes and cut them in small cubes. Cook them in some water for around 20 minutes, until they are soft enough, and SMASH THEM! Add in their remains the nutmeg and the cloves, a bit of orange, the cinnamon, the cocoa, the brown sugar, some eggs, and the cream. Yes, add a lot I know, and with so much stuff added what's the best thing to do? But of course, mix everything once again! Add some orange juice. After that, add some butter and flour on a baking tin and after you have pressed the dough with a rolling pin put it on the tin. It's time that the stuff you prepared early, the stuffing, meet the dough! Add them together, and level the surface with a spatula. Cooking time: one hour should be enough, and after that the only thing left to do will be eat this delicious pie!

  • Easy to prepare
  • Very cheap ingredients
  • Taste very good

  • The cooking part is a bit long
  • Won't last for long outside of the fridge
  • Made with sweet potatoes, that have some risk on them (expecially big amounts of oxalates)

smoother and richer

I live in the American South and Sweet Potato pie is a classic here. I like it much better than Pumpkin Pie. It is smoother in texture and richer in flavor. You can spice it similarly to Pumpkin Pie so the aroma is very similar. However, I just think the sweet potatoes add a depth that the pumpkins don't have. I think it's because pumpkin puree is a bit more watery than pureed sweet potatoes. Either way, I really love Sweet Potato Pie. If you haven't ever tried it you definitely should!

Sweet Potato

I'm not a huge fan of either really, especially because I don't like pie at all. But if I had to choose one then it would definitely be the sweet potato pie because I just hate pumpkin (to eat of course).

Sweet Potato Pie is Better

I love sweet potato pie! This is a Southern delicacy where I am from, and I have to wait to eat this once a year when it is prepared by family on the holidays. I love it with marshmallows melted on top and toasted pecans as a garnish as well. This starchy sweet casserole is very filling and satisfying. My family makes it with a particularly buttery flavor, and a spoonful of this concoction is a great compliment to turkey, greens, stuffing, green beans, and ham. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

I've never tasted this one, so maybe it's time to put myself in action and cook it. To be honest, my family doesn't bake a lot of pies, but cakes. I still have blueberries pie as my favorite, but I can definitively try this one. So if you have any particular recipe for this sweet potato pie, I will be more than thankful, and promise to cook it.

Pie, Pie, Pie.

There is no denying that "Pumpkin Pie" is a good choice, but "Sweet Potatoes Pie" is even better because the taste of the potato is more striking (and the fact that I'm addicted to potatoes helps in the final decision, haha).

One thing that I have really enjoyed about some certain situations is that when you are working on some things as regards the Thanksgiving period, you have to weigh your pocket and this is the reason that I think that the sweet potatoes pie is one that is pretty nice and good for me.

Give me my sweet potato pie!!

Interesting that you say the pumpkin pie is part of the Thanksgiving tradition. Evidently, nobody told my mother or the other mothers in our neighborhood. In fact, I was almost a teenager when I learned that there was such a thing as a pumpkin pie. I was suspicious about it. I had eaten sweet potato pie all of my life. A pie made of pumpkin? That didn't even sound right to me! Nevertheless, I tasted it and it was pretty good. I've gotten used to it over the years because lots of grocery stores sell them and they are less expensive than the ready-made sweet potato pies. But if you are going to make me choose between the two? Give me my sweet potato pie!!

Sweet Potato Pie

I love Sweet Potato Pie so it's my choice in this versus. I like it with regular pie crust or graham cracker pie crust. Either way it is tasty, especially with a little whipped cream spritzed on top.

The sweet potato pie is better because it is very easy to prepare, it has a delicious taste and the ingredients are affordable to the poor and the rich.

I never tried the sweet potatoes pie so I can't really vote, but I tried the pumpkin pie and it didn't really taste good.. I honestly never liked pumpkin in general so I might be a little biased. I love traditions but I'll gladly break them when it comes to desserts.

To be honest, I don't love pumpkin but.. this one? This is the best one I have ever tasted! It is far from what I expected it to be. A 100% good snack for kids and also for adults. It is not time consuming to make and also, it will give you the taste you are looking for because of its ingredients that will surely give your mouth the best taste. I tried to make it for the first time and up to day i am still making some. My favorite! Can't wait to make many of these again. Very excellent!

I have never even tried sweet potato pie but i would choose it because i so not like pumpkin poe at all. I have tried it a few time prepared by different people and it is just not for me. I do like anything else that is pumpkin flavored though. I would much rather have pecan pie for Thanksgiving dessert.

Pumpkin is sweet, sweet potato is also sweet. Which one is sweeter? Of course sweet potato. When it comes to pie, what is the most important thing? Yes, the sweet taste. Therefore, my ideal choice is sweet potato pie, you don't have to use extra sugar to make sweet potato pie.

I want the pumpkin i will surely recommend this to my sister who always loves to cook and bake. i think that recipe will cost less than the potato, pumpkin is cheaper than potatoand its much easier to prepare and we have pumpkin in the backyard thank you for that recipe.

Not going to lie... I don't like either. Never been a fan of pumpkin or sweet potato, especially in pies. I prefer savory pies.
Posted by kataomoi on 11-14-2017
I love pumpkin pie! Specifically, homemade, and in the more light and chiffon-like side than the heavy store bought versions. I don't believe I've ever had sweet potato pie, though I do love them as a veggie. I can see how they would make an amazing dessert. I wonder how they would work if substituted in my pumpkin pie recipe. I'm going to have to try it one of these days. Anyway.... I have to have at least one piece of pumpkin pie during the holidays or it just doesn't seem the same. It is like Christmas, but deciding not to set up the tree. It just feels wrong.

The sweet potato is called the food of the pauper in the olden days. But now that it is being used in pies then that means its image has been improving. I think it is a good comparison between pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie since they almost have the same taste. But for sentimentality, maybe I will choose the sweet potato pie because I feel at home with its taste.

I tried sweet potato pie but not the pumpkin pie. But given the chance, I would love to try the pumpkin pie to see the difference. As I read the comments, more people love the potato pie. But I wonder if I have a different taste bud and if I will like pumpkin more than sweet potato pie.
