Sandcastles

Sandcastles
Ah, a beautiful day on the beach. The sun is shining, the waves are crashing, the sand tickles between your toes. Grab a bucket and shovel because it's time to make a sand castle.

Pros
  • Anyone can make one... from kids through adults
  • Professionally made sand castles are even more spectacular
  • Just takes sand, water, bucket, pail, and imagination
  • Great way to spend a day at the beach

Cons
  • Need to be somewhere with sand (beach or by a lake)... so not accessible for everyone
  • All that sand that ends up places it shouldn't
  • The waves or some bratty kid might come knock it down before you're even done

Very fun

I prefer winter over summer but I have to admit that sandcastles are much nicer compared to ice sculptures.

I remember when I was a kid, I absolutely loved going to the beach with my family and friends because it meant that I was able to create things from sand. You can build almost anything you want! I really admire people that are capable of building large sand castles. It sometimes takes hours and hours to build them to perfection.

But building sandcastles is even good for children. It allows them to express creativity and to just have some good old fun. It's really great.

Sandcastles

Well, I live near the beach. So for me, I see plenty more sand castles and sand sculptures on a yearly basis compared to ice sculptures. I do think ice sculptures take great skill to make. But I've seen some amazing sand sculptures that are truly a work of art!

Easier for amateurs

Not everyone has access to ice picks, chainsaws, and blocks of ice. So a more chill way is with sand. Mistakes can be fixed too.

sandcastle

I like both sandcastle and ice sculptures but most of all I choose sandcastle because it's easy to make at any beach with family to get ourselves busy or just to spend time doing something fun together :-) Plus the fact that anyone can do it make it more favourable.

Fun by the beach

It will be fun ti enjoy the breeze and building sandcastle according to your imagination. You can see your Kids creativity and mobility skills when building sandcastle by the beach. Too close to the sea will result to damages, that teaches them Science and logic thinking. I had never made a sandcastle in my life which I should if my parents had joined me. So if you at the beach, do join with your kids to build the castle

Sand is Fun

I have enjoyed the most on the sand. And you can see that some of the time sand is something we can always enjoy. There are times when the sand is definitely fun to do this with the family and friends. So I think sand castle is the best thing that you can have there. So I prefer the sand there as well.

Sandcastle

I live near to the beach and have been playing with sand ever since I was a kid. I so love to build mountains, sandcastles and there are many people who also make great sand sculptures over here. We also have many sand sculpture competitions being held over here.

Sandcastle my favorite!

I prefer the sandcastle in favor of ice sculptures, mostly because most of us can create a sandcastle but not everyone can make an ice sculpture. Besides, going to the beach and create a sandcastle is fun and this is an activity to which the whole family can participate!

Sandcastle attire

Building sandcastles is relaxing, therapeutic and at anytime you could take a break and go for a swim or just relax on the beach. The Ice sculptures sounds almost like a black tie event. I very rarely like to dress up particularly when I choose to have fun and relax. It sounds very creative and enlightening plus I imagine it's quite a spectacular event. I prefer sandcastles as the beach they say here is not just the beginning but it's one of the best places to relax and engage in fun filled activities of all sorts.

Snadcastles For Me

Both of these fleeting and temporal mediums are pretty cool , if you ask me, but as I do not have any real sculpting skill, and I don't carry around a chainsaw and other tools looking for large blocks of ice to do a Michelangelo on, the sand castle is a bit more approachable and doable for me. You have to build one if you go to the beach, and a lot of us have shared this experience. I am not good at building sand castles either, but I do have fun trying.

Lasting and easier to make

I have the idea that sand castles and sculptures last for a long time. It's pleasing to think how long one castle was made and the effort it required. There is also the abundance of sand in the beach and everyone is free to make sand castles for themselves. Sand castles and sculptures are rather easier to make and they are available year-round.

Sandcastle is the best

Although I haven’t tried out Ice sculpture before I think Sand castle is the best. You have to wait for winter before you can build Ice sculpture but Sand is readily available at any given time and in every part of the world for your Sand casting. Also, don’t forget that not every country get the flow of ice during winter, some countries just experienced rain and cold only. You don’t need to be that professional and you will build a nice Sand castle, unlike Ice sculpture that requires your professional skills.

I totally agree with you here--I would not even know where to start with a block of ice. Also, if you "mess up" your sand castle, it's easy to start over. If you make a mistake on the block of ice, you can't really fix that.

Who doesn't love a sand castle?

I love looking at sand castles! Something about them is so much more magical to me than an ice sculpture is. Millions of tiny grains of sand are all manipulated in a way that turns them into a work of art! While ice sculptures are impressive, and beautiful, they will never live up to sand castles in my opinion.

Ice Sculptures

Ice Sculptures
Brrr, a chilly, but lovely winter day... perhaps in a Midwest town or a small mountain town somewhere. You're bundled up, but it's worth it to come see the amazing ice sculptures that ice artists made.

Pros
  • Beautiful use of ice
  • Can be very intricate
  • Usually a festival that includes several different ice sculptures
  • Great way to spend a winter day

Cons
  • Only professionals are able to make them
  • Requires chain saws and other power tools
  • Melts!

Ice

They are both equally good and amazing to look at, in some cases, but ice is more fascinating. Maybe it's just because I like winter the most, but a ice scuplture have something that just make me say "woah" more than a simple sand castle (or sand scuplture, as amazing as it could be!). My vote is for the ice!

Ice

I think ice sculptures are so beautiful and take a lot of skill to create. and I definitely consider these sculptures to be wonderful pieces of art. I am not as big of a fan of sand as I am of ice and I personally do not make sand castles when I go to the beach. I have visited a few ice sculpture exhibitions in my life and I am amazed every time.

Beautiful and creative.

Wih ice sculptures the creativity of the artist has no limits, with sand you only have castles and structures that will be destroyed by some kid on the beach. Ice sculptures may be last forever if you take care of them in a cold place! I'm a big fan of ice sculptures.

Breath-takingly beautiful

Of the two - I would choose ice sculptures over sand castles any day

As apart from being a unique form of art that not only requires a tremendous amount of talent - that not everyone has - as well as - a huge amount of expertise and dedication to create such breath-takingly beautiful intricate pieces of artwork - they totally fascinate me too.

Ice

Personally, I prefer cold over heat so my vote goes to Ice here. Both kinds of work are beautiful and require extreme skill but it seems to me that carving ice required way more expertise and attention on the details.

Ice

I personally like to see ice sculptures. I had been to the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. It was an amazing sight. I prefer ice over sand definitely.

New Love

Though I spent most my life near beaches and have always enjoyed sand castles (especially making them myself), I must admit that ice sculptures are a new love. Living now in an area with real winter, I had the opportunity to attend my first Ice Festival this past winter in a cute, historic mountain town. I didn't overly know what to expect, but my husband and I grabbed layers of clothing to keep warm and headed into the mountains. I was more than pleasantly surprised. The intricacy in which ice artists can carve piles of blocks of ice into amazing sculptures... I was truly astounded. I think what makes me appreciate the ice sculptures even more is that it is something that not everyone can do.

They look so beautiful!!

Ice sculptures are better than sandcastles in every single way. They are more visually appealing, they are harder to make because if you make a mistake it's harder to fix it, and you can have an ice sculpture sitting in the middle of a room without any problem (of course, after a few hour it will melt, but you can always find a way to avoid that mess). People don't choose to have big sandcastles on top of the dessert table on their weddings, they choose ice sculptures. Why? Because they are perfect and beautiful, that's why.

It's freezing here!

Although I find the sandcastles very interesting (it's a great skill), I prefer - without a doubt - the ice sculptures because in addition to the fact that I find them much more beautiful and detailed in the least traces... I have a natural fascination for ice.

So, I couldn't have chosen another option.... It's ice, ice and ice!

Smooth

I have always been attracted by ice sculptures, they have a special something, their smoothness and beauty, the fact that you know it is going to disappear in certain conditions but at the right temperature you can touch it, feel it. People who do such things are basically "water benders" (I hope at least some of you will get that reference).

I love ice

I would prefer ice sculptures. as for me, it is more relaxing to look at and would like to experience on working on one someday perhaps. Both types of sculpting is unique and the amount of work done is tremendously high, so it is much better to just appreciate this works of art as it is a very special eye candy.

I have to admit that I am not good with sand although I am not good with ice sculpture either. But I have been watching the Sand Masters on tv, they are the team that makes sand sculptures outside the beach. Usually in a park or a commercial area, they bring their sand and do the sculpting based on the desired design by their clients. It's nice to watch that show because I get the feel of creating the sand sculpture. With ice, the problem is the temperature. When the atmospher gets hot, the ice will melt.

I wouldn't vote because I love both of 'em. But I am mostly exposed to the beach so I have more experience when it comes to sand castles.

I enjoy both but if I had to pick one I would go with the sandcastle. The ice sculpture setting is just to cold for me. Both forms are art but since I'm a beach guy, the sandcastle setting is more fitting for me.

Sandcastles versus ice castles are kind of like trying to choose between peas and carrots. They are both good, and both valuable. I defintetly have seen a lot more sand castles than I have ice castles, and I have to say they are amazing. Ice castles are great too, it just depends on what you have access to and can view on a regular basis.

I think they are both beautiful. They take a lot of skill and hard work to make. I love when the light shines on ice sculptures because it gives it a magical look. However, I would say I like sand castles the best because I love the warm weather and the beach. Summer is my favorite time of year and there is nothing better to do at the beach then to build sandcastles.

I have to choose both. Sandcastles take some skill involved and they are very beautiful. They can be quite elaborate as well. I like ice sculptures too as they require a special kind of skill to take a block of ice and create the perfect sculpture from it. Weather can be harmful to the sculpture if it gets too warm. A city that is not too far away from where I live has a winter festival where they have many ice sculptures on display. I remember one year they started melting because there was a change in the temperature and it warmed up more than they expected. It was still impressive though.

I love both. I love to make sand castle every time I'm in a beach and it is fun. Its hot in our country and ice sculpture will just melt here. You can only see ice sculpture in hotels and it take a professional to build it. You can build sand castle without experience, you can try and try again every time it collapse unlike ice sculpture where you will need new block of ice if it cracks. But I really admire both.

I like both things. Sandcastles are really cool and it's possible to do amazing things with sand than just castles. I know there some people that can even do sculptures with it which is really impressive. Ice figures have their own beauty. For a party at nights they can work really great with special lights which could make them look really cool. The only bad part of this is that after some time they start to melt, which is something that doesn't happen with the sandcastles/sand sculptures.

I love both. Ice sculptures are breathtakingly beautiful and require a lot of skills and patience for creation. They look so fragile and at the same time so monumental, as carved from stone. Sandcastles are also very beautiful and I was always fascinated not only by contemplating them as a finished product but also watching the whole process of creation. To see how trivial sand turns into the charming castle is like watching an interesting movie. Like a magic!

I looove sandcastles! I love to build them when I'm in the beach and after I'm done I like destroying them with my feet lol... I guess to do an ice sculpture you'll need to have more tools and you'll actually need skills lol. For a weeding I'll say Ice sculture but to have fun I'll go with sand castles in the beach,

We don't have sea, therefore, I have never build sand castles. I live in a hot climate, therefore, it does not snow here. Thus, I have also never build a snow sculpture. If done brilliantly, both sand castles and ice sculpture are wonderful.
