Should Smoking Marijuana be legalized?

Should Smoking Marijuana be legalized?
In my opinion smoking cigarettes is more hazardous than smoking cannabis or marijuana. It's also a way out for drug addicts since the usual drugs used are chemical based unlike cannabis which is natural.

Marijuana or Cannabis also has a lot of health benefits like inhibiting tumor and cancer growth, eases pain in chemotherapy, reduces Tourettes Syndrome symptoms, it has anti spasmodic effect that relaxes the muscles and are effective in limiting the effects of Seizures and helps reduce Migraine pain.

Can’t stand the hypocrisy over marijuana

I don’t use the stuff but I hate the hypocrisy around marijuana.

It’s not particularly good for you but neither is alcohol, or tobacco, or sugar, or KFC, but no-one says we should ban them.

Alcohol, tobacco and obesity cause far more damage, kill far more people, and costs society more than marijuana.

Yet because the marijuana market is unregulated and governments make no money out of it from taxes and excuses, they get all hysterical about it.

I’d take the carry on about marijuana more seriously if governments stopped profiting off alcohol and tobacco. In the meantime, it’s just hypocrisy

Yes, but only for medical reasons. This will also allow the government to gain tax revenue which can be ring-fenced to further improve healthcare or education.

This will improve the country as a whole, economically and socially.

Medical marijuana, for sure!

I think that marijuana should be legalized but only in medicine. It can help with curing many difficulties, such as nausea, losing appetite. I also read somewhere that medical marijuana can severely reduce muscle pain, so there is that. However, other than for medicinal use, I do not support legalization of marijuana.

Off course it should be, it is less dangerous than alcohol, and the state can profit of off taxes from sales and people running businesses! It is a driver for the economy, and a hit to the drug cartels that thrive of from criminal activity!

Far more damaging

I would say based from my own experience that smoking marijuana is far more damaging to the brain and may cause illusions to its users. The question is this. Is marijuana the only way to cure a certain disease? I don't think so. Marijuana is just being used as a pain reliever for those who suffer critical illness but the medical benefits of it as not been really proven clinically.

Although Marijuana is known to have certain medical benefits, the use of marijuana is not still approved for medical purposes in many countries. However, the frequent use of Marijuana can lead to its addiction. Any form of addiction is not good for us in the long run. There can be withdrawal symptoms associated with stopping its use. I would say that it is better to avoid such addictions to lead a healthy life

Okay, let's accept that medical Marijuana is something that we should consider. But, smoking Marijuana? No. This definitely leads to addiction. Even for those who use it medically, they have strict guidelines for it.

No to recreational marijuana

Marijuana is still a substance that is prone to abuse; its recreational use hence should NOT be legalized. What I am in favor of, however, is legalizing medical marijuana. Marijuana is only good if it's in the hands of healthcare professionals, not the laypeople.

Agree. Any substance that can have psychotropic effects, shouldn't be use for recreational purposes. Marijuana medical effect depends on the amount that is taken, so as long as it is under strict control, then you will see the positive part instead of the negative one.

Any kind of drugs are harmful to the human body and should not be encouraged. If one drug is legalized, people would have the freedom to try other drugs too. It will have ever lasting effects on your body. I agree that it has medicinal values but that cannot be considered as a reason to legalize the drug.

No to smoking

Smoking it is a no, but using it for medical purposes then yes. Medical marijuana can be useful for patients who will benefit a lot from using it. Having it used in a controlled environment would probably lessen the chances of an addiction and withdrawal.

I disagree because the short term effects of this drug is way more dangerous than the short term effects of cigarettes, I mean imagine if it's legal and someone drives his/her car while stoned then that would be a disaster, Marijuana slows down the motor skills of an individual and in others they feel like getting crazy.

I disagree with the idea of legalizing the use or smoking o marijuana. yes, marijuana can have medical benefits and it helped a lot of patients in the past especially those who greatly suffer like a cancer patient and people who have chronic pains, but the only problem is marijuana if not handled properly can lead to addiction and addiction to any drug or substance is always a bad thing.

I am still weighing the pros and cons to this. We cannot deny that marijuana has proven health benefits. I have read articles about marijuana helping wake coma patients. Some countries make it legal. I think that marijuana should be regulated and not smoke like ordinary cigarettes. It can only be used to provide medical assistance.

No. What is in my mind is the addiction. This leads to addiction. When smoking marijuana is legalized, government cannot have the control over how much a single person can use. No, I'm still not in favor.
Posted by theresajane on 12-11-2018
Too much use of it can lead to addiction. I don't think it should be legalized, some addicts will just take advantage of it. I don't know, I just see it as a good way to legalized this thing.

I cannot answer this for now as I still need to do research about this issue. There are people who are so against it because it does something to your mind while you are on it. There are also people and whole state and countries that have legalized it and are saying that it has beneficial benefits. I am not a smoker and probably will not be til the day I'm buried but I am actually intrigued as to why legalization of this herb has been happening all around the US.

I must say no to this. I think it's okay if it's balance but if it's too much, this is bad to health. Some folks overused marijuana and cannabis which is prone to be more addictive to this kind of act. Too much is bad for the health so I couldn't agree more if this will banned to our country. There are pros and cons for this but people tend to use this too much which is not good.

Marijuana legalization has been around for years now and its main foundation is it's medical benefits. Other than those who suffer from illnesses and those who undergo chemotherapy, the would other lot should just never take marijuana. If laws could be passed and implemented, limiting it's use to those who just really need it for the ease of pain in medical treatment, then marijuana use could be legalized for them. But if this would be just like the other's moral issues that they just used the sick as a lee way to promote their nasty deeds, then law makers should never allow marijuana use to be legalized.
Posted by emiaj55 on 12-11-2018
Oh no, Never! Never ever! Smoking Marijuana would lead to addiction. Health benefits coming from it still cannot be used as a reason for it to be legalized. There are still other sources to get those health benefits other than smoking marijuana. That’s my opinion.
Posted by jessie271 on 12-11-2018
It's actually a controversial issue. Some country legalized marijuana smoking since it can help other people especially those but I don't know I am also weighing if it is really advisable to legalized it. Some people might use it to their advantage which may lead to addiction.

Marijuana is now legal in the whole of Canada and it’s not only the medical marijuana but all kinds of marijuana. Some stores were complaining that they have no more stock and that their supplier was delayed in the delivery of their order. That is a significant boom of marijuana sales in Canada maybe because the people got excited. But I know that it will stabilize later on.

What was their reason for legalizing it? Not only for medical use? What are the regulations that need to be followed every time? Is it regulated? I am curious as to why.
Posted by Alymae on 12-13-2018
Yes it should. By legalizing it, you simultaneously create tax revenue that can be spent on social programs that help fight addiction and it's systemic causes, free up time in the legal system, open up new economic niches, and eliminate the black market along with all the ills that come along with it such as gang violence. I honestly think that all illegal drugs should be fully legalized.
Posted by Caguioa747 on 12-12-2018
No, I think marijuana should not be legalized because I've been with someone that's really stoned and you can just tell it by looking at his eyes, his eyes are so red, his movement is so slow and he eats a lot. I would be so dangerous if someone's under the influence of marijuana and drive a car, because their motor skills are slowed down and overall their slow and sleepy the possibility of someone that's stoned of dying or being in an accident is high and that's not a good idea. So I disagree to legalize it.
Posted by davedaot on 12-14-2018
Whether it is marijuana or cigarette, I would still disagree. Both are harmful for our health. If not for those who abuse these things, I might make a second thought. It is the people who makes mistakes and takes advantage of what they should not. If only people can control themselves and use it properly, I might agree as well.
Posted by gutzman on 12-14-2018
I do think that it should be legalized and regulated for medical use. There are a lot of research pointing to the medical uses of marijuana and how it can alleviate the symptoms of certain diseases which can't be controlled by modern medicine.
Posted by Kakashi2020 on 12-14-2018
Exactly. If you legalize it, and put control on it, by rightful and severe laws and punishments, then people would be able to use it for beneficial purposes, and the illegal and dark business will drop. But as long as you keep it in the no access side, governments support the black market of those who need it for medical issues, and those who take advantage of it.
Posted by ballyhara on 12-14-2018
I think it depends on the society that will allow it. So far, there are countries like Netherlands, where you can find it legalized, and because the society accepts and follows the rules, they don't have huge terrible issues about it. Also, the law and its punishments are fulfilled, so in case someone breaks the law about Marijuana, either the buyer or the seller, for sure will pay the consequences, and that's what avoid abuse or injustice about it.
