Summer Olympic Games

Summer Olympic Games
Once upon a time, there was ancient Greece: a magical time, a magical place full of history, some of that still remains today. For example the Olympic Games: they started back then, but we still play them today, altough with some different forms and variations. The start of the modern Olympic games goes back from 1896, and since then every four years, ranging in a period of months that can go from july to september until august and october a lot of people gather around to partecipate, or even just to watch this major sportive event. It's probably the major event of this kind, or at least the major not related to a single specific sport. A lot of different sports are included, each of them different from each other. During the Summer Olympic Games you can find sports like basketball or football, but even judo or swimming, without forgetting classic like gymnastics or modern pentathlon. Listing all of the sports included would be a tedious task to read and write, since there are so many right now and they will be even more in the future: one day sports like baseball or karate will be part of the Olympics. At the same time, some sports that were once a part of the Summer Olympic Games are long gone and you don't see them around anymore that often - mostly "ancient" sports like cricket, croquet or roque.

Now the question is: where you can see them? Well, it depends! Every four years (when the Summer Olympic Games are played) the city changes, and since 1896 various cities in the world hosted one edition of them. Starting of course with Athen, but also Paris, London, Los Angeles, Rome... The only thing that was able to stop the event was the World War II: both games of 1940, in Tokyo, and 1944 in London, were cancelled due to the war. But after that, nothing have stopped them and we still have plenty of stuff to look forward!

Pros
  • Probably the biggest sportive event ever
  • A lot of sports included
  • Winning a medal is a big source of pride

Cons
  • If you don't like sport you won't like them
  • A lot of sports are still excluded
  • Some people might think they last for too long

Summer Olympics are Awesome!

I have always been a fan of the Summer Olympics. Even though the Winter Olympics were televised I was never that excited about tuning. Most of the Olympic athletes that I know were participants in Summer Olympics games.

main events

I feel like there's more hype that comes with the summer games for some reason. Perhaps during the winter people have more things to be distracted by so the winter games don't seem to have as much attention or focus on them. For me whenever someone brings up the Olympics my mind always darts to the events in the summer games even though I do still appreciate the winter games as well.

Summer Games

I like the summer games the most because it has all my favorite sports like Basketball and women's Volleyball, also gymnastics, Judo, and fencing. While on the other hand I only like skiing in the winter Olympics, which is also an exciting sport to watch.

summer power

I like the summer olympic games mainly because to the basketball games where you can see the best of the best in the world of basketball. It is such a big deal for me to watch my favorite NBA superstars playing together for the US Basketball team.

Winter Olympic Games
There are a lot of sports related to ice, snow, or in general to pretty cold temperatures and stuff. Since the Summer Olympics are playd, well, in Summer, and often in places where it's actually hot during the season, it might be almost impossible to play those kind of sports during the event. Luckily in 1924 this situation changed, since the Winter Olympic Games started to be played! At the beginning they were played in the very same year of the Summer Olympic Games, but this changed just recently, around 1994 - since then, they are still played every four years, but only in the years where there aren't the Summer ones, so usually even numbered years.

Some people might feel that for various reasons the Winter Olympic Games are less important and less interesting than the regular one, but they are just different, a completely different event with a dignity on their own. For example, usually they aren't played in very big cities like the Summer Ones: places that hosted the Winter Olympic Games were for example Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, Lake Placid, Grenoble, or this very same year, Pyeongchang in south Korea.

The sports themselves aren't as numerous, altough they follow a similar prize system with the regular medals in gold, silver and bronze. For example, there is ice hockey, or various kind of skiing (alpine and cross country), but even snowboard and bobsleigh. And of course curling, or less known sports like biathlon, skeleton or freestyle. All of them are closely related to snow, ice, cold temperature and couldn't be played in any way during the summer Olympics unless some very specific circumstances were to happen (a cold place, a building with artificial ice and snow inside, etc... not very easy to put in practice).

In any case, you can easily understand that the Winter Olympic Games are a event that perfectly stand on their own, with a lot of interesting sports, very nice place where they are set and in general that unique feeling that only this kind of events can give.

Pros
  • A lot of unique cold-related sports
  • Set in different years than the Summer Olympics
  • Host in interesting cities and places

Cons
  • Less sport than the Summer ones
  • Someone might consider them less important than the others
  • They last just for very few days

Winter for me!

I don't know why but I find bobsledding, snowboarding, and even figure skating more interesting than track and field etc.. - even though I love jogging! Anyway, though, this whole thing is rather subjective and I'm not much into the Olympics anyway, so what does my opinion matter? Well, I might like summer more if I got more into those games, but I just haven't.

Winter Olympics

Even though I enjoy both for different reasons - if having to choose between the two - my preference would be the Winter Olympics - as not only is the scenery generally way more spectacular but as a winter sports enthusiast myself - they're more entertaining to watch and especially the snowboarding, tobogganing, downhill ski-ing, ski-jumping, sled-dog-racing and ice skating.

Winter Olympics

I would choose this because I think winter olympic games is more excited and fun compared to summer olympics. I would like to watch the kind of games that involve ice like skiing.

I love watching both and for me it is difficult to choose just one option, because in both modes there are sports that I like a lot.

The winter olympic games is now ongoing in PyeongChang, South Korea. I watch it sometimes in the evening because our country has a representative in the ice skating events. However, we are not betting on Michael Martinez because we know that he is not that good to win a medal. But for sure, we will be rooting for him because just being in the winter olympic games is already a big honor for our country. Why so? Because we have no snow in this tropical country so an ice skater is a rarity.

I personally prefer winter Olympic games for a simple reason; I enjoy watching winter sports such as skiing, ski jumping and snowboarding the most. We have many great athletes that compete in the current ones and I'm rooting hard. There's nothing better than our countries representative getting a medal!

Both are great displays of athletic prowess and great competition from all the countries and you just compare the two due to their wide difference in terms of events. Both are entertaining and I would love to compete in any of the events in both Olympic if I had the skill.

I like both of these games to a certain extent. I think there is more variety with the summer Olympic games though so that is what I prefer to watch. I think it is one of the awesome ways to spend your time if you are going to be watching TV anyway. It is helpful and useful for those who want to watch the Olympics.

Even though there is no participation in Olympic games from my home country, I enjoy watching Olympic games. I like to watch winter Olympic games as well as summer Olympic games. Sportsperson from my home country have never been qualified to play in the olympic games. As far as I can remember, there has been only two or three participations so far.

With the limited athletes from our country in ongoing winter Olympics in Pyeonchang South Korea, and even we don't have winter season. I will choose the winter Olympics, It's fun to see them competing with each others in that kind of weather. I really love to see someone playing in the snow, since we're in tropical country, It's hard for me to see something like that, sports in a winter season.

Summer Olympics. Better opening ceremonies, mostly in better locations and better events. Also the atmosphere is just a lot more vibrant because it's Summer and the weather is better. Winter Olympics are okay but nothing beats the Summer games.

Hard to pick from those two. I am not a sporty guy but I love watching those player from different countries competing with each other country. So for me as long as they do sports and look cool they are all the same give me enjoyment.

Being a Summer person I can relate to them more. The Winter Olympics have a few events I enjoy, but not nearly enough. From swimming to track and field these events are more familiar with and many of us have experienced. I don't believe we can say the same for the Winter Olympics.

I think I would choose the summer Olympic games because our country belong to the tropical climate and I really feel more excited to have it because of different sports that can be done which is really far from the cold Olympic games. When I was a kid I was already a fan of summer Olympic games because it is the big event that I knew during summer which is really interesting to have.

THE SUMMER GAMES GIVES OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL TALENTED ATHLETES TO DISPLAY THEIR SKILLS AT THE BIGGEST SPORT EVENT ON PLANET EARTH AND IT CREATES MORE REVENUE THAN THE WINTER GAMES.

Both. I like watching it both. Watching sports are not my thing but when I do it made me feel so proud of those athletes who are there. Sometimes it also made me hyped. I like basletball and volleyball. I never miss a single game when my country was playing. I also find if awesome for those who do the figure skating.

Winter Olympic games is better. Its hot during summer. Many athletes could collapse because of heat during summer Olympic games. You will feel good in winter because its cold.

Summer Olympics are a great deal and extra popular often because they're bigger and have a far large number of athletes. Sports like soccer, swimming, athletics and tennis also are worldwide sports activities that have plenty of fans throught the sector. Still, Winter Olympics also are famous but best in the USA and in Northern, principal and Japanese, Europe and they have a few famous sports like ice hockey, alpine snowboarding and biathlon.
