What is elegance? There are many things in nature that are so beautiful, so gorgeous, so amazing that are pretty hard to describe without ever seeing them at least once. While some of them are a bit rare, there are also common natural things and creatures that we often associate with the whole concept of elegance. One of those is the swan, that magnificent white bird that wander around many lakes, many river and other water surfaces (in some places of the world you might even see a few of them on the open sea).

Swans are beautiful: describing them shouldn't be necessary, and it isnt' easy. They are completely white, with a wonderful orange beak with some black around their eyes. Their neck is curved and elegant, and their wings are incredibly fluffy and even huge - when fully opened, they can arrive up to 275 cm! The size of the swan itself is also pretty generous, since the average is around 150 cm. Huge birds, huge magnificence.

Europe, Asia, Africa.... You can find them pretty much anywhere, and they won't go away so often. They usually don't migrate and are pretty sedentary in both their habitat and their lifestyle: they are indeed pretty loyal birds to their partner. They won't abandon him or her for their whole life, unless something serious happen like some problem at the nest, or a death.
Speaking about their nest, in them you can often find around 5 eggs ready to hatch new and... ugly little birds. You probably know the fairy tale of the ugly duckling, and you probably know that he was ugly but he was, in fact, a swan. They babies aren't exactly elegant like the adults....

But once they will grow up, they will be admired by everyone around. White, elegant, beautiful: those are the swans.

Pros
  • Very elegant
  • Found pretty much on almost any water surface
  • Pretty loyal to their "wife" for their whole life

Cons
  • Getting close to a swan might prove to you that they aren't so friendly as they look
  • Just white, without many colors
  • Outside of water, when walking, they don't look that elegant anymore

Beautiful and Elegant

Swan seems to be the one who is the most beautiful, elegant, gorgeous, kind, gentle, pure animal. I am not sure if I am influenced by the fairy tales or any storybooks we have read since we were young, I always think swan seems to be the best of everything. Moreover, when I was able to see a real swan, I was full of amazement. I just think this animal is really great and amazing. When I saw a peacock, though I also think it's beautiful, I never think it's gorgeous and amazing.

Swan

From young?fairy tales had included swan as magnificent bird that turned into prince or ugly duckling into a swan, never a peacock.

Swan is elegant, decent, lovely and endure hardship

I prefer swans.

I know I'm in the minority here, but look... As majestic as the peacock is, I prefer the simplicity of the swans much more eye-catching.

Perhaps it is because I enjoy the black-and-white elegance much more than bright, contrasting, mix-and-match colors, but I feel swans have this inherent beauty that is akin to the "little black dress" all of us women have; classic, beautiful, eyecatching and simple.

I know they're known jerks, but, hey... They're pretty from afar!

Beautiful Swan

I like how beautiful they are with white color and wide wings. They look like dancing in the waters they are on. The swan moves was turned into play by the ballet dancer.

Cute!

Swan is one of the birds that I can spend my whole day watching over and the thing about that is the beautiful and cute nature of this animal. The way it swims through the water is a joy to behold and I have to say that watching it on TV can take a big part of my day, if I'm not careful. Looking at swans always remind me of how wonderful, things God has made.

Swan

I'd have to go with the Swan. It seems more beautiful from a classical point of view. The peacock is beautiful to look at also, but from more of an abstract painting or arts and crafts perspective.

Swans

I like swans better than peacocks because it's more graceful and elegant. A pair of white swans in the water is very romantic to look at and when swans spread their wings it's so white and silvery when hit by sunlight is like seeing something out of a fairytale. Besides peacocks are just colorful, while white swans look so beautiful and pure.

Swans

I like swans more than peacocks because it isn't only look elegant but peaceful, simple and clean too. They look cute as well, in some ways. I like to watch them swimming in the water, kind of relaxing.

Nature is full of colors: there are flowers with incredible colors, natural places that must be seen to believe them, and even some animals that are simply just that gorgeous. For example, there are some blue-greenish birds that wander around in some places (expecially courtyards of great houses of rich people) that on a first look are a bit weird, with some strange looking hairs on their head, with a curious movement and maybe even a bit of jerks. But every once in a while, the male species of this bird will show the world how much beautiful they can be: they will open their magnificent tail, showing a unique assortment of colors, something worth it of pictures and admirations.

In case I dind't mention yet the name of the birds, I'm of course talking about peacocks. This weird named birds were originally from India, but since the times of ancient Rome they were imported in all of Europe for a very specific reason: their taste. Yes, taste! Probably ancient romans didn't care too much about the look of those birds, they were delicious to eat... Today it might be rarer as a plate but most common as a elegant bird just to be featured in your garden, but their characteristic and aspect won't change. Their personality, like I said, it's a bit of a jerk... either with people or with other animals. They will protect their territory at any cost - watch out for angry peacocks! They aren't fun to face. Besides, they are pretty lovely with other peacocks and unlike swans they don't care too much about having a single wife - from 4 to 5 female each season, and with each of them even up to 9 eggs! They even have birth pretty quickly, and learn rapidly how to move and walk - now you understand why there are so many peacocks around?

Peacocks might be weird and not friendly, but they are gorgeous and magnificent.

Pros
  • Colorful
  • Their tail is amazing
  • They learn quickly how to move and walk

Cons
  • They can be a bit of a jerk
  • Very territorial
  • A bit weird without their tail
  • The females don't have the same tail as the male

The Beautiful Peacock

Peacocks, given their territorial nature which makes then appear to be very mean tempered, are one of the most beautiful bird species in current existence. I mean you would be very territorial too if you were so beautiful, especially in nature where creatures are so cruel to each other. Given the beauty of the Peacock, I would say it is more beautiful than the Swan. Surely, the Swan is known for it's elegance, but you can not deny all the colors in the tail! I believe that the tail, as large as it stretches is also for attracting a mate and fending off potential predators or any other species that may want to cause harm to it. So with all this being said, beauty comes at a price. The peacock definitely wins my vote!

so uniquely beautiful

Swans are glamorous and evoke feelings of romance. They are beautiful birds, for sure. However, they are just not as unique and stunning as peacocks. The huge, brightly colored feathers of peacocks are other-worldly. They look as if they have come from another dimension. I have also seen a white peacock which was equally as beautiful. They are just so majestic and royal. I am humbled by their beauty every time I see one.

Peacock

I just think that both animals are absolutely beautiful but for me, I had to pick the Peacock because of the fact that their features are just beautiful. If you see one in real life, you will just realise how beautiful the animals/birds are.

Tail wins

I saw both in real life, swans more times than peacocks but still. My vote goes to them.

They are so beautiful and unique with their tail panned out. The colors displayed are just... wow.

Swans are gorgeous as well but they are vey plain when it comes to colors.

Peacock

I think they are both beautiful birds. I love the grace and elegance of swans, but the peacock wins because of all the beautiful color. I do think I like them the best really.

Unique.

For one reason or another, I've never much cared for swans. I know they're supposed to be a symbol of everlasting love--or something like that--but any time I look at them all I see is overly glorified geese. Peacocks on the other hand are something special. They are so uniquely beautiful, and there are no other birds that you can really compare them to. Both the tail and the body look wonderful to me, and I also love it when you hear their call in the distance.

Beauty

You can see swan any time. But dancing peacock in the hopes of rain. That scene is something many people die to see in their lifetime. I think some of such exotic birds are worth checking out. I'd surely choose them in that case.

This Was A Tough One

I would say that admire and love both of these avians, but I think I would have to go with the peacock. Years ago, I went to the estate of the famous writer, Flannery O'Connor, and she always bred peacocks there at her Georgia home. They were prancing around, and the males were especially majestic. I fell in love with these birds, despite their mean behavior, I might add, on first sight. They almost look like some sort of alien creatures with their markings and the way they carry themselves. Swans are beautiful as well, in their own right, but the peacocks surpass their beauty.

Peacocks are way better

Presently, there are 3 Peafowl species . Pavo muticus, also know as the only ‘Green Peafowl’ is the only Endangered species of peafowl (Peacock & Peahen). The spectacular The Indian Peafowl, P. cristatus, could either be heard or seen throughout area i traveled in India. Their populations are doing well. On the African continent, we find the Congo Peafowl: Afropavo congenesis. This peafowl is also not considered endangered, but its’ population are lower in number than its relative in India. I told all this to explain my love for this bird

I Love Peacocks

Swans are elegant and graceful creatures. There's no denying that. But come on! Compared to a peacock? Have you ever seen a swan strut? NO! But a peacock struts about and you can almost hear their thoughts. They're thinking: 'Go ahead. Stare! I know I look good!' Do you get the impression I love peacocks? What gave you that idea? LOL.

No Argument Needed

How colorful a Peacock appears gives it an amazing look and an edge over the swam. Peacock looks adorable and somehow majestic. One hardly see a Peacock, it's a rare specie of birds but swans are a bit common as long as you are in water environments, you will definitely see swams more often.

A colorful attack!

When it comes to appeal, peacock is unarguably better than the swan. I know that a swan is quite beautiful and elegant. But peacock is the epitome of those.

Peacock just for the tail

The peacock's tail is the most beautiful thing I've seen in a bird, and the swan has nothing compared to the peacock's tail. They are also rarer where I come from, which adds to the peacock's charm for me.

The swan has always looked so beautiful, the grow up looking gorgeous, elegant and beautiful though the peacock looks fascinating too but we just have to give it to the ever young and mild looking swan they deserve it.

Gosh, this is a hard one. These two birds are incomparable in front of mine eyes. They both have such a serene natural beauty that is breathtaking. If I had a garden big enough I would have peacocks. I've always wanted peacocks. But then again, I would really love a humungous garden with a lake so I could have swans too! Imagine that? Swans swimming amongst lilies while peacocks wander around the flowers and grass. Beautiful.

I don't see much beauty in the swan though. It' cute and all that. But the real beauty is in exotic birds such as the peacock. But the way things are going around. You can see that peacock and the swan have their own set of the issues. I can tell you that people who are into the swan have their preference. And people who like peacock have their own.

I think that they are both so beautiful and so graceful. A swan is such a beautiful bird and they always look so peaceful flowing on the water. A peacock has amazing colors. I love when they open up their tails. It is a sight to see. All the colors are so breathtaking. It is such an amazing bird and a true beauty. My cousin use to raise them. I use to love to go visit and just watch them. They always opened their tails in the evening.

Peacock is my choice. they are truly magnificent creatures with so much to offer. I remember when I was young, I saw a peacock spread its tail and that was astonishing. I have never seen so much color in one animal before. I think that when they spread their tails they just shows how gorgeous they. They are not commonly seen compared to swans.

I think the peacock is much prettier than the swan since they have more beautiful colors an they also give birth pretty quicker also than the swans.

The peacock is one bird with the long plumes what is a kaleidoscope of colors. Caretakers in the zoo say that the peacock shows its plumes to attract the attention of the female called peahen. In other words, that showmanship of the feathers is a way of courting the female or maybe a love dance. It is wonderful to see the peacock doing that because it shows all the colors of its plumes. Unfortunately, not all zoos have peacocks because it is a rare bird.

I find Peacock more graceful than the swan. Swan is a beautiful bird, when it flaps the wings while swimming, it looks wonderful. However, when the comparison is with Peacock, swan will remain in the back seat. No bird is as graceful as Peacock. When Peacock spreads its wings, not just the peahens but even humans are attracted towards the bird.

The peacock is a solar symbol, because its open tail resembles both the shape of the sun and the celestial dome, so that its "eyes" represent the stars. This bird refers to beauty and personal pride, which is why it is often represented in coats of arms. Popularly, it is known as a symbol of vanity as well as its splendor is a reference of royalty.
