The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games is a story, which was also made into movies because of its popularity particularly with teens. It is about a period after an apocalyptic event, when rules and laws change across the world, and there are different districts rather than countries. The movie is about a young girl and her friend surviving in a “fight until death” contest better known as “The Hunger games”. Though it is a story many of the events and episodes in it resemble other films and short stories. Nevertheless, it has received a Globe award for its song, and the lead actress, Jennifer Lawrence has been given the best actress award by different film judging bodies. The film is much acclaimed for its raw emotions, and dramatic violence.

  1. It helps to understand what could happen should an apocalyptic event happen;
  2. It creates an understanding that some things need to be done, even if they do not seem to be right, or are unpleasant, because it is all about the question of survival.
  3. The movie fills the heart with hope that the protagonists will survive at the end of it all.

  1. There is a lot of violence and unfair actions.
  2. There is practically no laughter and fun, but rather a difficult world where everything seems quite hopeless. However love and friendship can be felt in some parts.
  3. It is mostly for teens.

Hunger Games

For me, the characters in the Hunger Games are more relatable and realistic. I feel that the character of Tris is too reckless and developed to fast in the book and seems too perfect, while Four also sounds too perfect too be true. I also think that the concept of the Hunger Games is more realistic, and I thought it was impossible for the experiment in Divergent to last for many many generations.

I like both!

I like both the Hunger Games and Divergent. However, I think that the Hunger Games are a more well-developed storyline and characters. It's got a lot of depth and richness to it. Also, Jennifer Lawrence is an absolutely brilliant actress and brings so much to the role. I have actually been really wanting to watch the Hunger Games recently. I love the costumes, the scenery, the storyline - pretty much all of it. It's incredibly well done.

Hunger Games

I have never watched Divergent although I have seen it quite a lot on Netflix and I did want to see what all the fuss was about because quite a few of my friends recommended it to me. I just feel that it tried to copy Hunger Games a bit. I have watched all the Hunger Games movies and I have to say I love it!

Hunger Games (I haven't seen the other one)

I'll have to go with Hunger Games for now. I did really like it (and saw more than one movie). I haven't seen Divergent to offer an opinion on it. It does sound interesting though.

I may have to add it to my watch list. Then, I can update and compare.

I don't think that I have ever seen the Divergent... I will have to put it on my "to watch" movie list.

That's why I will vote for the legendary The Hunger Games. I have read the books and I have watched all of the movies so far. I even went to the cinema to see it and it was beyond awesome.

A really good adaption to the big screen with an amazing cast. I'd highly recommend this franchise to everybody.

Better Story

The story here is more brutal than the divergents. The story in divergent is slow and not much worthy. You can see that the divergent story is nothing but the way they are surviving. And for this I am guessing a lot of people are not much finding much interest in it. So hunger games sounds lot better in that context.

A masterpiece.

The Hunger Games is a sharp critique of our modern society, obsessed with entertainment and televised drama for the sake of schadenfreude and bile fascination. This certainly isn't a new concept, as Stephen King discussed it on his masterpieces 'The Running Man' and 'The Long Walk', but 'The Hunger Games' took it to a whole new level.

The characters are engaging and multilayered, and its crude portrayal of mental illness, abuse, power, corruption and rebellion certainly makes it rank higher than Divergent and it makes us evaluate ourselves as a society, wondering how far would we go to achieve our goals in adverse circumstances.

So much better!

I think the "Divergent" saga can be very interesting in some moments (but the whole story can not sustain itself entirely). "The Hunger Games", in addition to having an incredible and timeless story is much broader and more complex (in the best sense of the word).

Hungry for games

The Hunger Games is, in my opinion, a phenomenal series, not just within the YA genre, but within dystopian and political fiction as a whole. It’s no contest; Divergent doesn’t even come close.

Hunger games is the original franchise

Divergent came up after The Hunger Games I believe and its story has never made sense to me. How did it happen that people can have only one main character trait? It's simply illogical. The Hunger Games seem more logical and more real. This way it is more interesting.

Better for me

I prefer this story because it's more than a romance novel, it also has drama, tragedy, comedy (sometimes), etc. Also, it shows us friendship, loyalty, and the visual effects, the dresses and the makeup of the characters are pretty awesome because they fit into the story. I really love this story.

Better story.

It's way more original (even though it's bad on a japanese one) than Divergent IMHO. Universe's more captivating and deep, without any doubt. I'm not a fan of either, but my heart will go for Hunger Games here. Hands down.

better for me

Not really that much of a fan of either and I only really saw the movies and never read the books but from my experience I would say I enjoyed my time with Hunger Games a little bit more. Maybe it was also a better time in my life to watch movies when I saw Hunger Games too because these days I don't really find movies that enjoyable anymore, so maybe if they were released at the same time I would favor the other more, but for now I would choose Hunger Games.

Nice movie

I do love watching The Hunger Games as it truly shows how to fight for your freedom and how to fight the government from treating people as a pawn that can use for their entertainment. I do love the storyline and I do love the cast and their roles. It's a movie that you everyone should watch.

Divergent, on the other hand, is like a knockoff of this movie. I don't find it that good as it looks like a normal type of a sci-fi movie.

I was never really a fan of this series after seeing THE HUNGER GAMES for the first time. But after a few more views, I ended up kind of liking the first one. I watched the others and they were not too bad either. DIVERGENT on the other hand, I just never could get into it really. I was quite bored watching the first installment, and never bothered with the second one. The acting was also not very good.

Divergent was a scientific fiction released in 2014. Its similarity with The Hunger game lies in it portraying a futuristic society, and much of what goes on in that era does not conform to this era's rights and wrongs. Basically, a society exists, and classifies its members as selfless, peaceful, honest, brave, and intelligent factions. The factionless are classified in the future with the help of a serum. The protagonist happens to have the qualities of more than one faction in her, and therefore, she is called divergent. The society considers her to be dangerous enough to break the social order. But she does have a choice, so she opts to be in the brave group, for which she has to undergo some tests. Soon there is to be an uprising by the intelligent faction to overthrow the selfless faction in which, her new faction is participating, and the protagonist dare not reveal her identity. How she saves the selfless is a long story in which she loses her parents, and even has to kill one of her friends. A rather intriguing story which keeps you interested in what will happen to the main character, and to her life and love story.

  1. Though fiction, it is quite engaging;
  2. It does make people align with the divergents though defiance is not something that any government whether present or future will appreciate.
  3. There is friendship and love involved.

  1. It is essentially intended for teens
  2. There are violent scenes which may not be advisable for younger teens.
  3. Plot may seem a bit complicated at first.

I liked this movie and even watched it more than 3 times. I like how the story is set. You could see Beatrice going against her own way of life and choosing to follow another group because she feels she is meant to be like them. She never let her team down when she had to shut down the mind controlling program and prevent her family and her people from getting killed.

I think divergent and the maze runner are poor stories. And they don't seem to be having much attractive plot either. And on that point it'd be reasonable to check out more brutal stories like the hunger games. There seems to be really a good show with the hunger games. And they seem to be adding a real fun into the story with lot of tangents. So I think it's reasonable to watch it.

I have never heard of Divergent, however, I have heard about The Hunger Games movies even though I have not watched the movie. Having said that I have watched the trailer of The Hunger Games move and I really liked it. Based on the trailer I have watched and reviews I have read, I think The Hunger Games is a very entertaining movie.

I loved both as a teenager. I think Hunger Games was more about society and Divergent was a bit more about identity. Both were interesting and fun to read. I think the Hunger Games were more popular and better written but I think both were entertaining and I don't have a favorite.

The hunger games is a very nice game that can help to teach teens how to survive in difficult circumstances in life, when there is the will to survive then God makes a way for survival.

I prefer Hunger Games series over Divergent because it has all the element that i like in a movie. The Hunger Games is one of the favorite movie series because it tackles more the problems in our society. It has a lot of twist in turn that makes the movie more enjoyable and fun to watch.

These 2 movies seem to have the same theme of fighting and violence. But I think Hunger Games have more fans mainly because of the cast led by Jennifer Lawrence who shot to stardom with this movie. What is good in Hunger Games is not just the suspense but the lessons imparted to the audience. In fairness to Divergent, Shailene Woodley as the female lead is also fitting for the role.

The two movies are similar but I prefer divergent. Divergent takes the viewers into a completely new world. It explains all the rules and ways of the people in this new world. It also portrays the idea of allowing the viewers to identify the main character on their own. And finally, I love the kind of connection Tris has for her family. I will go with divergent.
