The government should provide state sponsored health insurance.
Some people say that it's unreasonable to expect the government to help people when the government isn't in such great shape anyway. Also, they claim that many people have self-inflicted bad health and that taxpayers shouldn't pay the bill.

Anyway, on the other hand, supporters have cited cases where homeless or children have died because they were refused care. In fact, that was mentioned in the Michael Moore movie, Sicko. Also, possibly they might mention the government pays for many things anyway, so why not healthcare.

Yes I agree

To some point, I do agree, as when the government fail to look at such cases like you say poor children seem to lose their lives. But not just children I feel adults life's are important too. Anyone who lives and breathes are important

To an extenct

Government funded hospitals are fine. I think that everyone should have access to a hospital or a doctor when they have an accident without having to worry about costs. But the problem is that there are people who do not care about their health and then we as taxpayers have to pay more for these selfish people to be treated. That is my only problem.

Using healthcare isn't a choice

Governments do have a duty to provide basic healthcare because people don't choose to be ill or sick (some are self-inflicted), and so yes, they should have services for all.

However, it is a system that can be abused by some and so I can see why costs need to be looked at. The problem is the young, old, and poor need the help and it shouldn't be about money but it is. People do die because they can't afford healthcare or don't get something treated because they have no plan. Is it right that the rich get access and the poor don't?

Of course.

I absolutely believe that the government should provide state sponsored health insurance. America is still trapped in the middle ages when it comes to our health insurance policies and we need some serious change. Our policies are not only laughable but they are incredibly sad. There are so many horror stories of people having to deal with medical bills that one really has to hear them and think to themselves, "What is wrong with this world we live in?" The government spends billions on the military, financing war and violence but they aren't willing to care for the health of their own people. Shameful.
Posted by Denis_P on 10-10-2017

I totally agree

I totally agree with you, but I do not think they will ever do something like this, especially here in my country. Our health system sucks, when we go into a hospital they do not even have medicine to treat us and they send our families to buy medicines from a pharmacy, they do not have vaccines, pills or any treatment, and our doctors expect us to offer them bribe for anything they do for us, in fact, if we do not give them an "attention" they do not treat us as they should!

A Mark Of A Civilized Nation

I consider socialized health care to be a defining mark of a civilized society. This is not the middle ages for most of us. There aren't hordes coming to ransack our towns. There will be no bands of marauders coming to loot us. We live in a well-tended market system in which private ownership is a thing on the civilian level. We simply do not need a government to tend to these matters anymore. So if a government is not tending to the well being of its people, why exactly are we giving them money? Leaving people who cannot afford proper healthcare to die is obscenity incarnate.
Posted by JaiGuru on 10-10-2017

I don't think that the government should provide everything but basic things like healthcare, education, and housing should definitely but provided for. It's only fair that we get something in return for the taxes we pay
Posted by Marvadaum on 10-10-2017

Serious health issues could be avoided

Many serious health issues could be prevented if detected early. People who do not have health insurance will ignore the early warning signs and therefore land up having extensive stays in hospital/operations. This ultimately will cost the taxpayer more, as well as loss of taxes that would have been paid (while taking time of work while incapacitated). The Government needs to focus on free primary healthcare for those who need it. It fascinates me how government officials live a lavish lifestyle while the population (who they work for) suffers...
Posted by Rhombus on 10-10-2017

Of course they deserve to do that, especially my country, where the dimwits we call leaders, who are occupying the corridors of power offer nothing but steal and loot the nation dry. They Health insurance is a necessity that must be implemented, with immediate effect.
Posted by Authord on 10-22-2017

Yes of course

It's tax payers money that the government uses to run the affairs of the state and even at that, there are cases of embezzlement of pubic funds and nothing is done to probe them. So if they use part of the taxpayers money and build a state sponsored health insurance, they will not die or have their name change.

The government should look out for its citizens and provide all the necessary social amenities that would encourage them and give them good standard of living because they rightly deserve to be treated good in all ramifications.

If people don't like to pay taxes. If rich people don't pay back to the state. How are we going to have the tax sponsored by tax which takes care of those things. And that's where things are going wrong. You can see that health insurance takes time. And people have to be really mindful about what to expect from government in that case.

I have always advocated for this in my country, the government should provide basic amenities which health care provisions is one of them. What is the essence of having a government in place that can't cater for the well-being of it citizens. It can be very annoying after paying tax one still needs to pay for simple things that the government can provide for her citizens. So I totally agree that Government should be held responsible for our health care insurance provisions.
Posted by lovely on 10-09-2017
I agree with you that there is the need for government to provide insurance for people to ease the cost of having to register at private owned insurance companies.
Posted by Barida on 10-09-2017
In my opinion, there should be some conditions, but, and sorry to sound over-sentimental, but I don't want to see children and the homeless turned away. However, though, it seems like religious groups should step in and care for the really unfortunate. Why is that not the case? I mean, they want to win followers to their religion and that would be a good way, obviously.

I think that the government should provide health care insurance to every people especially the less fortunate people. It is the right of every people that the government should take care welfare of every individual. What is the use of government and the vote they gave to public official if they will not give comfort to the people. We all know that hospital bills are so expensive medicines, hospital facilities, laboratory etc. In my country Philippines we have health care insurance called “Phil health” it is program of our government almost people encourage to get one with a minimum payment of 200 pesos monthly this will serve as your insurance it is small amount compare to private health insurance company, if you get sick you can use it in all accredited hospitals and all senior citizen are free they don’t need to pay monthly premium and zero balance bill to all public hospitals.
Posted by honeybabe on 10-09-2017
You have come up with a very good point. But, the hard reality falls very far. In my country where each and every person in the Government is corrupt and self centered things like this are only a dream.

If I state it more clearly then it is a dream which will never come true. The Government does come up with such welfare schemes, but they bring more of personal profit to them rather than to the masses.
Posted by amitkokiladitya on 10-10-2017
I agree, but honestly I don't think it's as simple as that because it's different for each country. For some countries it might work but for some others it might not. For example, I think the US is just too big for such as system to work especially considering that they would have to revamp the entire structure that they already have now. Here as well because you have so many people who would just take advantage of it because it's free and the burden would fall onto those who are responsible.
Posted by Wubwub on 10-10-2017
Where I live in south Italy which is a pretty poor place if we try and compare it with the USA, everyone, homeless people, illegals who are running from war etc have the right to receive basic assistance. It always surprised me to hear how a country which is light years ahead of mine still lets people die because of something like insurance. I think everyone has the right to receive first aid, we shouldn't let people die because of money.
Posted by Tania997 on 10-10-2017
Same here. My country is smaller than one city in the United States, yet we don't have such bad healthcare system as they do. We all have the rights for the basic assistance and a doctor. The government actually pays for the healthcare as long as you are insured - you don't have to pay anything yourself.

If the state doesn`t take care of its citizens, who then will take care of them?! Government exploits resources of the whole country, which belong to all of us, gets taxes from working people. It is the task of the state to provide health insurance for all of us. We have full rights to it. At least for low-middle class people, it should be mandatory, I believe.
Posted by RosieCheeks on 10-10-2017
Government should / must provide health insurances to its people. The fact that it runs because of its people's taxes is the main reason it should give people the best government could provide and one of it is free health insurance. Free health care and hospitalization especially to those who could not afford the bills and to the elderly.
Posted by LouiseLeiG on 10-10-2017
I think government should help the poor people when it comes to health although they cannot help them 100% of the expenses maybe they can cover 50% of the expenses in the hospital specially the beggars or children sleeping in the street they should help them because they belong to our country so they need help from government.
Posted by tophew on 10-10-2017
I live in a country where our healthcare is provided. We can go see a doctor or be admitted to a hospital and not have to worry about the cost of it. We get the treatment we need whether we have the money or not. We still have to pay for an ambulance and any medication that is needed if you are not in the hospital. There are also programs that will cover these costs for low income people. Nobody has to go without. If you are sick and you need help it is there for you. I am thankful for the healthcare that we have in place. Of course there will always be flaws because nothing is perfect but it is far better then most countries have.

I think people expect from the govt a lot. And that's something people have to understand. That govt which is run by people have their own set of the limits. And we have to learn how to adjust with people. And we also have to learn to deal with the issues in short time. So we can see that health insurance is something we have to worry about on our own. And not something left for the govt to deal with it as well.
Posted by overcast on 10-10-2017
In my country, we have some basic health insurance or what we call 'Medical Benefits' which is government sponsored. It caters primarily for the working class and the old and retired. Of course we make our contribution through salary/ wage deduction periodically. There are some aspects where there is full coverage and some where there is partial coverage. It's helpful in reducing some of that medical cost that tends to catch you off guard when you least expect it. I think there can be some compromise where this is concerned. Afterall, a wealthy nation is a healthy nation. If something is preventing people from making their contribution to society and the economy in the form of illness, the country will suffer and the government will have to step in at some point. So why not step in when it is not an overwhelming, major alert occurrence to do so? It can be a gradual process that eventually ensures that certain measures are in place to curtail a potential disaster that may happen that will force a protocol that is inconvenient for all.
Posted by Joteque on 10-10-2017
We wouldn't be in this mess if we actually regulated the insurance providers- but instead the government doesn't because politicians are paid off not to. It's so bad that unless you're super wealthy then medical care is going to put you in debt for the rest of your life. My medical insurance is the bare basic and I'm paying $300 a month for it. No dental or vision included. Something has to change in this country. The reason why the US healthcare is messed up is because of the insurance providers and pharmaceutical companies going hand in hand without market regulations. Other countries actually strictly regulate how inflated fees, deductibles and cost of medication should be % wise so as to not have a run away profit margin versus the cost of care for the masses.
Posted by Rhodolite on 10-10-2017
Yes, and I think everyone has a right to insurance. It doesn't matter how much money you make or whether or not you have pre exisiting conditions. I think that health insurance is a right that should be available to all. It is important to have. It is just one of the things that we need to survive. I think it is a great thing to have available.
Posted by kgord on 10-10-2017
It should be fully funded by the government. The government is just selfish if they want to spend their money on something better than letting people/children die in agony. The poor people that cant afford healthcare are just waiting to die because their own government won't or cannot help them.
Posted by muaaz.93 on 10-10-2017
Health insurance is a newly introduced concept in our country. Until recently, the insurance companies did not provide health insurance policy and government also had no policy for health insurance. However, currently out government has implemented health insurance. The government is bearing 75 percent of the insurance coverage cost and the insurer will have to bear the remaining 25 percent.
Posted by vinaya on 10-10-2017
Our country does have a health insurance in place. The poor sector enjoy the benefits of this health insurance for free while the employed sectors need to pay for the insurance based on their salary. It is a mandatory deduction and the employers/company pay for half of the cost. In short, some enjoy it for free but it always comes at a cost to the other members as the monthly contribution is constantly increasing. While it can help defray most cost of hospitalization, it does not cover everything. However, there are government hospitals and clinics where people can avail of free or almost free medical services so the poor sector don't always need the healthcare card to avail of benefits.
Posted by chatbox on 10-10-2017
n Malaysia, health insurance are not free. You have to buy it in order to protect yourself in case of emergency. If government provide free health insurance, I am sure majority of the citizen will enjoy the benefits and support the government even more. Furthermore, not everyone is working right now. The jobless, the beggars, the poor could not afford food, let alone the health insurance.
Posted by peachpurple on 10-10-2017
In the Philippines, health insurance is also not free. You need to pay for it for you to get the benefits of a health insurance during emergency or hospitalization. It's just good that I work in a private company and the health insurance is free for us to avail in times of medical check-up or hospitalization and it's really a big help especially we don't have enough money to pay when health emergency arises. I hope the government would give it free to its citizens like in other countries.

I think the right to health care should be a human right. Why should people die, because they don't have money? Everyone has a right to life. In my country, the health care system is pathetic and inhumane. Healthcare facilities have targets. If you have insurance the doctor prescribes you more medicine than you need or sends you for more tests than you need. Is this where we have reached? Are we that inhumane? Why should politicians get healthcare and not citizens? Governments need to revisit! Why is the right to healthcare a debate? Yet we all profess religion. Religion teaches loving thy neighbor and equality for everyone.
Posted by jaymish on 11-29-2017
I think the government, particularly of developed countries should provide free healthcare to its citizens. Especially in the case of pre-existing conditions. I do think people who abuse or take risks with their bodies like smoking, drug abuse, etc. should be vetted first and maybe sent to the back of the line. But people with for example - heart or lung conditions from birth deserve some sort of safety net from sky-rocketing health care costs.

A good idea. There are people who lack health insurance, the government providing state sponsored insurance will help the citizens who can't afford healthcare.

The socio-economic idealism. Where does the money come from? Government-funded-everything, or the underlying truth is: tax-payers'-hard-earned-money-funding socio-economic problems is the bane of modern civilization. My heart goes to the legal citizens among the poor and destitute, women and children refugees who do not have the health and means to get jobs and be productively employed in the country that welcomed them with open arms.

I get it. Medicare does its job well for the sick and needy. Of course, all thanks to our hard-working tax payers. We should not forget that.
Posted by ZevJabo on 03-31-2018
It is very important for government to provide health care insurance for its citizens because without good health for the populace it can affect the labour force. They should include in the budget money they get from tax and others to insure the health of the populace.
Posted by babyright on 04-20-2018
If this happens in our country, so many poor people will benefit from the government sponsored health insurance. I had seen how those poor people in the hospital were begging for money so they can buy medicine. It is a pathetic sight but it seems that our government is not seeing the situation. But on the other hand, I know that it is a huge budget that is needed to implement a no-nonsense health care insurance for everyone.
Posted by Corzhens on 07-17-2018
I think it's not about whether its government or non government sponsored. It's about the quality of the service and the extent of service. Even some poor countries had some form of medical government sponsorship the problem is the quality is poor and the services is limited.
