What hangs on your walls?
My walls in my own home are devoid of any hangings except a tapestry painting of a lion. Back in those days my parents had a different concept. Every event that they captured in a camera would be found on their walls. Those days however no one owned cameras and so a photographer did that for them. Even funeral photos were found there and then there were wedding photos of their brood, school photos, family photos....the works. Grandparents would get a prominent place \ What hangs on your walls?

Yeah, I don't hang anything on my walls either. I think because in the old days people liked to remember their greatest moments and their loved ones by hanging physical pictures. Nowadays, we can use Facebook and other social medias. Painting industry is also becoming more and more targeted so nowadays, I don't think people enjoy real paintings as much. A lot of my roommates from college days and even after college also don't have anything hung on their walls. Maybe, it is also because we are so used to apartment lifestyle where hanging things on your walls are prohibited.

Priorities have indeed shifted and all for the right reasons. Why would anyone want to hang any photos with skype, webcam, cell phone the works which are so easily accessible not to exclude selfies. Talking of those that have left this world I may be wrong but I get the feeling most do not miss them these days. There is much too much in everyone's plate to worry about those who are no longer there in their life.

Sometimes my walls get cobwebs hanging on them so I have to suck them up with a hoover! I don't think this is quite what you mean though! I have some nice pictures on my walls. One is an autumn scene of a huge tree and a forest behind. I have a couple of photo's up of my nephew and niece and some other oils. I am currently looking for a picture of a stag. I want one with just the head of it with beautiful antlers.

In one of my rooms I have a picture of an Arab Prince laying on a carpet with a European woman with the sun and sand behind them. It is really beautiful and shows the wind in her hair.

I hope you will not keep those cobwebs hanging in there (lol)
You have a wide choice I see and I am quite intrigued by your wanting to have a picture of a stag - there is more to it than meets the eye it seems to me. You must be truly loving your niece and nephew as these days hanging pictures of family members is hardly seen.

I hang photos and paintings on my wall. But I don't hang family pictures or any photos relating to family gatherings or special occasions. I keep them in the frame at our room or in an album. I also have other stuffs hanging on my wall like my mountain bike, :p my guitars and other things which I find it nice to see, or rather conserve space.

At home we don't like hanging things on the wall, I think this is something that grandpas and grandmas did in the old times, now we just think it is something that only will collect dust on the wall and we don't see the point of it, to be honest.

I don't like clumping everything like my parents do.It was normal to see calendars, family group pictures and the likes on our walls in the house where I grew up.I like a free atmosphere in the room. I only hang some African mosaic and iorn like kind of art work on my wall. It helps me recall a lot of memories of growing up in a village and my people's culture.

Random stuff like paintings and other wall decorations. Funny thing is, we buy things in random. No theme in mind, if we like it, we buy it. We don't hang our pictures, I dont know why, but we just don't.

I don't have many things hanging on the walls currently. I'm about to start decorating though, so I'm weighing my options. I have some pictures of the kids and grandkids displayed on shelves, but I plan to hang some up as well. I have to sort through my picture frames to see which ones will work best for which pictures.

I will probably create some art pieces as well.

I don't have too many things on my walls actually. I have a few pictures and a couple of mirrors but that is about all. I don't like things to look too cluttered.

I hang artwork and photography on my wall that was done by family and friends. I guess I'm lucky that I have such an artistic family, so I frame some of the paintings my mom, dad, sister and brother have done. They're meaningful to me and I like to be able to show other people who come over the work they've done. I do some photography on the side, and I may look at framing some of my own work to display at some point as well.

Pictures of family members are the centerpieces of my wall ornamentation. I can think of no better decoration than the people who make my life beautiful in practice, just for their being around. And those pictures appreciate in value unlike any other decoration. They capture snapshots in time that instantly make my mind recoil into the moldy depths of my mind, to remember times more clearly which were starting to cloud over. As the faces in my life change with age, I find the younger visages on my wall a poignant reminder that this is not a permanent arrangement, that we do not have each other forever. So, we'd better make time for one another! What painting or decorative plate could do all of that?

You have a great story there. I do agree with you they grow on us with time taking us back to years when those things happened. However there are very few like you who would still have that old school of thought Today's youngsters are buried in selfies that are only to be dumped and not looked at again as there would be umpteen opportunities for a repeat of that. Sad but true.

I couldn't agree more. I think family is the most important thing in our lives. We should treasure all the time ever spend together and photos capture those moments. Looking at photos can bring back so many wonderful movies of times we spent together. I have a family wall and I love it. It brings me such comfort. Some photos are of family who are no longer with us and those photos bring me comfort.

I have a wall where I hang all my family pictures. My family are my life and I like being able to look at them every day. I think that it adds character to my living room and makes for great conversations. In my bedroom I have one painting of a flower and some wording along the wall over my bed. It is simple but looks nice.

I am a naturalista in all forms. I hardly ever put a pouch on my smartphone. The same goes for my walls. Plain! Plain! Plain!

My walls used to be plain for the longest time, but this past year for Christmas I was given a collection of about 50 propaganda posters from throughout world history, so now I've got three of those hanging up on my wall alongside a map of Catalonia written in Latin. I think it looks pretty cool and adds a bit of color to my otherwise extremely white-walled apartment.

In our walls at the receiving room, hangs frames of bamboo with a painting. And it is also the same in the dining room and other parts of the house. But in our bedroom our wall has a big mirror, collage of family pictures as years pass by framed in a glass that could be again opened to add another family picture as the year rolls. And it's nearly filling up so there's a need for another frame for a new collage of pictures. Also, hangs are the graduation pictures of our daughter from the two universities where she graduated.

Most people would hang pictures of family and such on walls, but I have never really been one for photos. I do have certain decorations hanging in my bedroom and kitchen though. In my bedroom I have a dream catcher above my bed, along with two wood carving portraits of Native Americans figures on either side of the dream catcher. By my work desk I have a long scroll hung up which illustrates the seven chakras. In the kitchen I have a giant wooden fork and spoon on the wall above the dining table.

Since most of my walls are covered with libraries, there is no much space left: i just have two pictures of me. One is a picture with Woody from my Disneyland Paris trip, back when I was 10, and the other photo is even older. It's a 5 years old me on a beach with a tiny tiger, which I'm being told was from a circus and they let lots of people took picture with it. Apparently he was calm and quiet just for me and with nobody else, but they might have been lying all those years.

The two pictures that you do have sound like they have fun memories and awesome stories to tell. I love library walls. I think that they give a home a lot of character. I think the look so awesome and all those books just fascinate me. You must have a great love for books and reading.

Haha, I agree with you that our parents and grandparents tend to always hang all of the pictures taken on the wall and put them on the display. I actually have quite some things hanging around the house. In the bedroom, me and my partner, have two different paintings that our friend gave us a gift.

Then in our living room, we have both of our degrees framed hanging above the closet. We also have one of the cute small, rock type of paintings near the television. We don't have anything hanging in the kitchen and dining room except an old clock. And we have some posters in the computer room and in the work area. I prefer having my walls filled up a bit over completely empty. It brightens up the rooms.

In my parents house, it is compulsory to hand ancestors' photos which are black and white on the wall as according to the age. Every time I wake up at night to pee, I get a shocked under sleepy eyes that those ancestors were looking at me! Now that I am married, I only hang the clock and Red packet lanterns on the wall for decoration. No pictures, not even my kids nor wedding photos.

Here in our house, we have a lot of paintings made by local artists. Most of these paintings date back decades ago, maybe around the 80's. We have a couple of paintings that were made by famous artists here in my country. We don't have a lot of family pictures around, but we do have a giant picture of my grandfather and grandmother's wedding day, which I think is so nice. As for actual family pictures, we usually have them in albums.

I do not like to hang pictures on walls, although I have some family photos in frames on the fireplace. Regarding walls, I have some paintings, and a large jigsaw puzzle which we got framed and it looks like a very nice painting.

I have pictures of my children as they have been growing up such as school pictures. I also have other types of artwork and other types of decorations on my walls. I think it makes my home a little more cozy and warm. I like to look at pictures of my children when they were babies and toddlers as it brings back nice memories although sometimes it is sad since they are growing so fast. I try to hang things that are unique and to find unique or fun frames for the pictures that I want to hang up. I think it just gives people an insight into what kind of person I am.

After I read the title of this topic, I looked at my walls, I can see my wedding photo, the wedding invitation from my wife (in my culture the bride has to send a wedding invitation) and my two month old son's photo. I am trying to remember my living room. I can see (in my mind) my parents single and couple photos hanging on the wall. My sisters' family. A family photo taken during my sister's wedding.

My wall is a virgin when it comes to hangings. The only thing I have on my wall is a calendar. When I was kid my mom would hang family pictures around the house. But I am never a fan of hanging stuff on the wall. The moment I moved to my home that hanging on the wall culture stop.

My grandmother house where I lived all my life was full of paintings from my grandfather, one uncle, my big brother and me. They were so so beautiful, but they just they kept them when we made a move to fix that house, and when we came back we did not put pictures nor paintings. Now I live on my mom's house and we don't have anything hanging on the walls.

I have a bit of a mix of things on my walls--I do have some paintings in my bedroom. I also do a lot of my own artwork, so I have some sketches and drawings hanging here and there--I do the art and then go to the dollar store and get cheap frames for them. You can spraypaint or stain the frames to bring them to life. We have tapestries hanging here and there as well.

The walls in our home are happily covered with lots and lots of framed photos! A friend once visited my home and commented, "wow, it's like your house is a shrine to your life." I'm okay with that. My husband and I love traveling and also love spending time with our friends. No matter what it is we're doing or who we are with, I love taking photos to commemorate the moments and adventures of our life. Many of the photos get printed out and scrapbooked... a special scrapbook for each year that we've been together. Some of our favorite photos get printed and framed up on our walls. Sometimes it's a single photo that goes with theme of a room... we have an African styled sunroom and so we add photos in there to match the theme. There are photos of us with elephants and giraffes, also a photo of our orange Maine Coon lying in front of the TV which has a lion on it (he decided that he would lay right in front of the TV while we were watching National Geographic). There are collage photos too, like in the hallway is a collection of photos from our honeymoon around Europe. Our family room has two multi-photo displays the depict photos of us with some of our closest friends from over the years. I don't think we have any particular artwork as most people would have, I feel that just takes space away from what I deem more important... displaying our life and loved ones.

I have a ton of wall hangings! I love them all so much, they each make me happy in their own way. I have lots of family pictures all over the place. Grandparents, parents, and even family portraits from when I was a child. I have a lot of different classical artists paintings up as posters as well. "Starry Night" and "The Scream" are two examples of the posters. I also have a few different tapestries, I like to hang them in the doorways in the summer as to keep the heat out and A/C in :) Lastly, I have quite a few paintings and drawings I made. I love my wall hangings and I can't imagine living with bare walls!

In my room I have a board with posters, postcards and such. I can change the arrangement of those things often. The other thing I have on my wall is a painting of exotic flowers that I bought on some sale and I liked it. It's nothing special but I like floral patterns.

In my room, I don't have anything hanging because I don't like posters, photos or paintings on my room walls. In my house, we have paintings, photos and ornaments hanging on the living room walls and the kitchen walls only and we have one wall just for the graduation photos.

It's rather interesting that wall hanging paintings and pictures were so prevalent back in the days and today until this post, I haven't even thought on hanging things on my walls! My mom's house on the other hand there are pictures of family and pets and bouquets on the walls. I suppose it comes and goes with the time and generation gap. Alternatively, those folks who cherish their wall hanging pictures and the likes would be the same folks who do not really care to have a presence on Social medias. This is one of the signs of the times which is as clear as the wall hanging pictures that can be seen once they exist.

Our home is filled with hangings. In the living room, there are 3 big frames – a charcoal portrait of me and my husband which was a gift from my sister, a painting of horses which was also a gift and an oil painting of flowers as another gift from an artist friend. There are small frames particularly the so called 4 seasons. Not to forget, there are also calendars that adorn the walls of our living room and dining room as well. And what about the picture frames that are atop the cabinets? They’re a lot, I tell you.
