What is your thought on amassing gold?
In India gold and women are inseparable. The quantity of gold owned by women differs. Obviously the richer have more and particularly those that come from certain States. I could say those Women in the South would rather starve than not have gold. Here in India iy is a status symbol. The more gold one has the more respect is earned. However, I have no such belief.

Gold goes with the woman when she gets married. Some from the groom’s side even demand that the bride gets her share of gold and that is discussed and decided on before the wedding date is fixed. Just before the wedding ladies from the family and in the friend’s circle are invited to have a look at the gold the bride would be wearing and taking it with her.

It is falacy that gold gives security. It is only the hard up will sell their gold and the hard up hardly have any in the first place. These days women do not wear gold for fear of getting robbed. There is not a single day when newspapers do not flash news about women being killed for this reason. Keeping gold in lockers is worthless unless it is pawned for money and this pawning is done mostly by those who are hard up,

So it is a milllion dollar question why anyone would want to hoard gold. Unless it is sold when the price is high it is worthless to keep it in lockers. Gold does appreciate in value as years go by but it is never sold. It would be better if it is sold at a good price and the money is invested in real estate, shares and or mutual funds.

What has been your experience. Do you buy gold and hoard it or sell it when the price is right.?Do you think it is advisable to invest in gold and if so why?

I particularly think that this relationship is something extremely exaggerated, but I am aware that this is something totally cultural... So, I have the utmost respect for it. I think it's something of their essence and this can not - and shouldn't - be changed or seen with "evil eyes".

I agree with you. It is part of their tradition so it's something we can't judge, but this kind of relationship with gold is bad in our countries. We don't have a tradition here, most people will buy expensive stuff made of gold only to show it off. Women might act like gold is some kind of trophy, not a tradition.

Our teacher in social studies had said that you have to respect the culture and tradition of people from other countries. We were in grade school and we really did not know well what culture means. But now I realize that our teacher was right because people in other countries may seem to be odd in their behavior and beliefs but that is their tradition which is part of the culture that should be respected.

I think that we should shift our focus towards more attainable goals and leave the material goals out of this. In that sense amassing gold will only be good for building up your wealth but since your spiritual side is more important let it be

The love of precious stones is by humans is not just a thing of this century it has always been there.people just believe that with so much gold in ones possession one is made for life and in .is most cases this is true.people worship and adore gold and believe with gild one is wealthy which can be true.

I think gold at this rate is going to be devalued. Though people can collect it all that they want. You can see that having it generated through other means can affect in many ways. You can see that some of the time holding gold is not going to be good option. People are going to have their own set of the opinion on this. And it's always better idea to hold the limited gold and not get affected by the holding price issue.

Honestly? I have never once bought or hoarded gold. I know that some people do it and it can be profitable to sell it for a higher value but I didn't try it myself. I just think that even though that people keep saying gold will always be valuable, it's risky. Either way, what you do with your own money it's always your own personal business. If you want to invest in gold and keep it then do it.

I have no gold and I have no desire to have any. There are so many more things in life that I would rather have or places I would rather go and spend my money doing so then hoarding away gold. I am not a materialistic person at all so I guess I have a hard understanding this way of thinking. There are people in the world starving and yet there are people who are hoarding away gold. Why not take the money and feed the hungry?

I am not really interested in jewelery and neither do I like to wear them. I know some of my friends who are obsessed with gold jewelery especially. They are always planning to buy some new jewelries which they will wear only occasionally. Like you said it is quite risky to wear jewelries to go out nowadays. I think that it would have been better to spend the money for a good purpose rather than buying jeweleries.

People belieive that gold has a lot value and it also signifies wealth, so that is why i think some people prefer to amass lots of gold.

While on the one hand I respect that some cultures - as they have different values and priorities - see amassing gold as something of great importance - for me its not - simply because - not only are happiness and quality of life far more important to me than material possessions - but I only ever buy something - when its either actually needed or wanted - meaning likely to be used - as I really can't see any point in wasting money on something that you never going to get the pleasure of wearing or using.

I think gold is a simple material good. I find it interesting to have some gold jewelry, but I do not consider the excess to be interesting. We are all going to die one day so I ask myself: Why do people accumulate material goods if they simply will not bring it to eternal life?

I think the secret to a good life is in balance, and the accumulation of gold or any other wealth should also be balanced.

I belong to Hindu culture. In Hindu culture, Gold is associated with purity and divinity. Therefore, gold has cultural value. Gold is also a precious metal, thus, having more gold symbolizes richness, the root of this thought lie in the ancient belief when gold was used as money. In our culture gold, is uses as jewelry and during the wedding, the bride and groom's family exchange gold jewelry.

The only gold I have, is the one I've been given by friends or relatives as a gift. Personally, I don't buy any gold. I'm not a fan of accessories, and I don't get attracted to it. I don't like the metallic significance of it, it is for sure very valuable, but can't compare to the value of a person, so is not my first choice to buy. My mom instead is very gold seeker haha. She would fill herself with gold if she could afford it. Unfortunately, we live in a very dangerous country, and going out wearing gold means exposing your life.

I never understood the obsession with jewelry and shiny things. I understand that for centuries, wearing gold and precious jewels has been a sign of wealth and status, but it is only so because people made it that way. You cannot eat gold, it doesn't bring you good health, and therefore it has no value to me. Perhaps I can understand the benefit of amassing gold from a financial perspective, given gold will always sell for reliable rates unlike fluctuating rates for different units of currency.

You shouldn't really add too much of a meaning to something like a precious metal. Gold is cool and all and it can look good on people, especially with a specific set of clothes, however it's not like it has too much of a symbolic meaning, well it depends of course, because in different cultures it can mean different things, but there is no point in thinking too much about it.

WOW! If gold had to go with the woman when she got married in America, a lot of women would not be married. LOL. I don't view amassing gold any different from amassing any other form of wealth. If it can be used for the good of mankind and improve life for as many people as possible, that's how I would use it if it I amassed it.

I think people put too much in precious medals the bottom of gold could drop out at any time and then all of the gold you have will be worthless no matter what you paid for it. Some people think that it never will happen but that's just a false sense of security. And me myself I have minimal gold and if the price of gold crashed tomorrow I would just shrug it off because I wouldn't lose that much.

When I was still single, I was buying jewelry particularly gold necklace and earrings. My idea was to make the gold jewelry my refuge when in a financial crisis. But when I got married, my husband explained to me that being attached to gold or any valuable material is tantamount to being greedy and vain. Now, I don’t buy expensive jewelry although cheap fancy ones are okay. At least I feel normal and natural with no pretensions when it comes to appearance.

Wow! I never knew that gold is valued by some that much.I know financial advisers tell people that reserving gold is a good long-term investment. Normally when the dollar is losing value and the biggest economy, the American Economy is in recession, it is said to preserve the value of your money you should invest it in gold.As far as I know, this is still the advise being given. I know there has been talk of Bitcoin taking over from gold as the reserve currency. This will be an interesting space to watch. Until then as an investment strategy to me keeping gold is still a very good idea

I will probably not amass gold to the point where they can fill a pirate's treasure chest. Diversification in wealth and investment is still what's being preached by financial gurus and gold, along with stock investment, cash, and real estate, is just one of the forms of investment one can make to ensure financial health in the future. I have several pieces of jewelry which I use on different occasions. I don't wear them on crowded places though as there's always a risk of losing them to robbers. I prefer gold jewelry over fashion jewelry because they look more elegant specially when embellished with diamond or pearl pendant. However, they're the only gold investment that I have and I have no plans of selling them except when there's an absolute need to do so.

I'm that type of guy that doesn't have such feeling of amassing gold and anything that has got to do with wearing necklaces and all that. I enjoy living my simple life for it has given me the type of peace that I need in my life.

Amassing? No, not my style. I do think having some gold is a smart investment though.

Well I think not only in India and not only woman. Gold actually is a good investment. If you have gold, well, not just a gold, a plenty of gold it means you are reach, and financially stable. I don't know about the cultures of India but I think It's normal, in terms of gold. I'm just much more aware and wondering about he jewelry in the middle of the Indian girls. what's all about?

I agree that gold is a good investment. In fact, I think it is the most stable investment when it comes to worldly things. However, take note that gold is not that easy to sell so you are not considered liquid. When you suddenly need a big amount of money, you are left with the gold and you may be borrowing money with interest. My nephew had bought an expensive watch that he was selling when he ran out of money. It was not easy to sell and he succumbed to the pressure so he got only 50% of his desired amount from the buyer.

I have been looking for gold. I experienced treasure hunting. Its so hard to find. Its good that here gold is just amassed.

Well, purchasing gold is considered to be very lucky not only in India but also in many other countries of the world. however, purchasing and amassing gold as a long-term investment strategy is not a very good idea at all. if the gold purchased is in the form of ornaments then it will have a depreciated value at the time of selling them. investing in gold can be very risky if you are storing all of it at your home. it can even be a potential risk to your life from burglars if you are amassing a large amount of gold with you. investing in real estate, mutual funds, shares can be a much better and safer option than investing in gold.

Gold is a glittery metal. It truly has some beneficial traits. It is able to be streached a lot, it is able to additionally be pressed very thin. Moreover it conducts electricity thoroughly. however there isn't that much freely to be had on the surface of the Earth. With few exceptions different metals are used in its area.

It is about whether to invest/buy gold or other investment instruments. Investing in gold ensures one's wealth is not eroded by economic crisis as it has historically shown that it garnered huge demand in the event of economic uncertainties. In other words, gold has more stable value than other instruments such as stocks, bonds etc in the event of economic crisis. There is nothing wrong investing in the instrument. However, in all investments, patience is the key when come to investment profit. The appreciation of gold price is slower than other instruments.
