Who Needs Leprechauns When They Have Capitalism?

Who Needs Leprechauns When They Have Capitalism?
There are several legends, myths, or fairy tales about leprechauns. But the story that almost everybody knows is the one about catching these wicked tricky little guys and forcing them to give you their pot of gold which is at the end of the rainbow. The tale is supposedly a warning against greed that … everybody ignores!

Many people call Facebook Facebookistan because it's like a whole other country in and of itself and should have its own flag. But you know? So is Google! The corporation is really woven into the fabric of our world. People diss capitalism in favor of socialism, communism, or other forms of government where they believe that wealth among citizens will be equitably apportioned. (It's what they believe. Even though history tells a different story.)

But would Google and Facebook even exist if it weren't for the entrepreneurial spirit nurtured by capitalism?

All capitalists are not wicked overlord imperialist dogs.

Also, I never really bought into that claim that 99% of the population are poor folks; and all the riches and wealth belong to only The One Percent of the country's citizenry.

I truly believe that capitalism adds value to any society or nation because people have more freedom to use their talents, skills, and abilities and turn their work efforts into pots of gold which can be further translated into philanthropy, humanitarianism, or charity.

Greedy people know no boundary lines and have no respect for any form of government. If they can find a way to exploit and access ill-gotten gain, it doesn't matter what kind of economic system is in place in any country.

Why can't we all use our God-given gifts and talents and aspire to create our own pots of gold?

The reality is that greedy people will always be in this world. But leprechauns never existed and we don't need them even if they did!

Capitalism is GOOD. Greed is NOT!

Capitialism

It has it's pros and cons but in general it rewards ambition which is probably good. I think it is just one of the economic systems neither good or bad, they just are!

I agree with your point of view. Capitalism rewards your ambion. You can work more, earn more and make your life better. In socialism and communism, you are allowed to generate only what you require for basic needs.

Capitalism

I have found that socialism eventually leads to the dictatorship. And we have to check out some of the socialism that is not going to be good enough. And we people don't understand that fact. So capitalism as bad as it sounds. It's good to have that for sure.

Agreed

Capitalism breeds more and more productivity when compared to any other system of business ownership. There is no room for complacency, once it's detected, the individual is rooted away immediately for the benefit of the business. Nobody sets up his or own business establishment to allow it go into ruin because of bad management or poor attitude of workers to do their job. I would always favor Capitalism anywhere and anytime.

Greed is Evil

I couldn't agree more, capitalism is good, it creates industries that gives people jobs that in turn supports the country but it also has its share of evil which mainly is greed, decadence and monopolies. But if you think about it capitalism is the lesser evil, if given a choice, would you pick socialism over it?

Like any sort of economic or political system, I believe that capitalism is good only on paper. I cannot deny that capitalism has certainly helped create some wonderful things. Science and technology thrive in a capitalistic system, because good entrepreneurs know that it takes investment and research in order to keep making money. While you may say capitalism is good, and greed is bad, the simple truth is we live in a world where the majority of the people who accumulate great wealth are in fact incredibly greedy. And thanks to this greed, the common man endures unnecessary suffering.

Is capitalism absolutely evil? No. Is capitalism the best option? Absolutely not.

Yes. I have heard that most wealthy people are also greedy people. Perhaps that's why Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.”

The truth is that we have got to understand that capitalism is not a bad way of running an economy for it gives us the chance to truly prove our business mindset and it is by doing so that many get to contribute his quota to the country. It's good that you mentioned Facebook which got better with the freedom that it had.

I completely agree with the capitalist system of doing things, because everyone gets rewarded for their effort ,wisdom and business savy. However this system is open to abuse as seen especially in third world countries. The rich get richer because they are corrupt and steal taxes paid by the poor and the middle class. In my country civil servants earn very little, yet they are some of the richest people in the country. This has ruined the economy because, the normal man has no money and the money is in the hands of a few people and it's stolen. House prices for example are very high, and beyond the reach of the normal man. Houses are bought by money from corruption. There was a story in social media the other day about a leader's wife who bought 24 apartments at one go. Her husband is known to be very corrupt. Capitalism is good but has to be checked.

Not everyone reaps the rewards of their labor and efforts. But still! With a capitalist system, at least they did have an opportunity to try!

As for corruption? Here are two lists published regarding the most corrupt countries. I would have to study and learn more about them and specifically focus on whether they have a capitalist system.

I do not think that capitalism is evil, but it can definitely inspire evil in people who are too busy destroying one another in their attempts to gain great wealth and to further their own agendas. Also, although we can't depend upon leprechauns to save us, a little good luck in ALL of our lives is NEVER a bad thing. I think that, when it is working at its best, capitalism inspires a healthy competition between business owners and service providers, and this can make them constantly improve their services because they are trying so hard to gain and retain their customers.

capitalism has some bad points, however, socialism and communism are the worst economic system. I am from Nepal. I witnessed 10 years of communist war that killed 14 thousand people and destroyed property worth billions. In the last general election, provincial election and local elections, the communists won a majority. Now only God can save the country.

"...when it is working at its best, capitalism inspires a healthy competition ..." That was worth re-quoting. This is when the system is at its best.

Your opinion is well researched with tactical points and well developed thesis to back it up, this I will say is intellectual and I won't want to miss the fun of not chipping in.

I am not a fan of socialism or capitalism instead I prefer the communism and marxism which are more of interest to the lower class, just like the statistics has shown the world economy is owned by 1% due to the high increase of capitalism, it is good to have a capitalist tendency and acquire all the possession and income tied to just the generations of a family, this is greed with no limit. The 99% of people are suffering and trying to live up to them because they see these folks as their mentors and idols, we are being made to purchase the book in exchange for the hard earned dollars we worked for while they bring up seminars to educate the 99% who are obviously not going to get employed due to their incapabilities. Capitalism is the leprechaun that is destroying this world, there is no how that you are not a capitalist without being greedy and selfish to some extent. The reason that all these humanitarian efforts by them to make earth a better place all go down the drain because it won't be so if everyone isn't equal with their earnings as you, capitalism have caused and done more harm to humanity. It is like a leech we permitted to drain us of our planet, if you think capitalism is not evil think about the wars and fighting still going on around the capitalist are the ones gaining from it one way or the other, if capitalism is fair then why is it only 1% of the world population that controls the whole economy, these are things we all need to ponder on.

You mean Communism and Marxism, IN THEORY? Because in practical application, it did not and does not work! If it worked so well, why didn't Russia remain Communist?

As a person living in a country where the communists won two-third majority in the general election, provincial election, and local election, I believe capitalism is the best solution to create wealth. Redistribution of wealth, just like the socialists and communists tell, never ha[[ened in the past and will never happen in the future. The communist never distrubutre wealth, they capture wealth and use to exploit tyhe masses.

Wealth redistribution? One must admit. It does sound ideal.

Technology is independent of Capitalism. It existed before Capitalism and progressed before Capitalism, and contrary to what you have been led to believe, it did not facilitate proliferation of benefits of technology. Illustrating with the earlier example: We have the power to produce more food than what entire planet needs. Yet we are keeping grain in warehouses to keep markets happy. Capitalism is not facilitating proliferation of the benefits of technology to starving people, at all - it is preventing that, in order to keep profits high.

So like ... don't you think warlords should get some credit for interfering with efforts to try to feed starving people?

My take on capitalism is that the economy is composed of all kinds of people, from the big businessmen to the small consumers. When the businessman gets lucky, his business prospers and if he doesn’t squander his earnings then he becomes rich. I don’t see a tinge of avarice in that especially if the businessman is fair in his dealings. And when you think of the unfair distribution of wealth of the earth, it is the randomness of the economy that dictates why there are wealthy people and why there are poor families.
Posted by Corzhens on 02-05-2018
foxchannel
I'm not too sure about that. I prefer the word “unpredictability” as opposed to “randomness” and I honestly don't think it dictates who is wealthy versus who is poor. What about countries that have monarchies ~ kings and queens? Royals who give birth to more royals and the only reason those royals are rich is because they happen to be born in a royal family. That's got nothing to do with capitalism.

Capitalism is something that has shaped the lives of people for better and for worse.

I think the problem lies with people's tendency to become greedy. Sometimes when you have a lot of something, it kind of means less. Like it has less value because you already have so much of it. But still you want more. While others who barely have enough to survive find value in what little that's left for them. This is why balance is best solution. It has to start with us. We have to choose to save when needed. Share in order to help others prosper and grow.

So that one day they too may do the same to others.

I think socialism and the communism is nothing but evil. Making people prisoners of the state. That is something bad. And people don't understand how they are losing on it. As much as fancy utopia it may sound. The socialism and communism is bad. Because here people take the things for granted. And that's a bad thing from what I have experienced.

I believe capitalism is the best thing to ever happen in this world because it rewards anyone who decides to work hard enough than others.

Socialism is good compared to communism. The root of dictatorship is sowed in communism and if care isn't taken it would get the people helps because things are to favor the communist piloting the affairs of the country. But with Capitalism, everyone has equal opportunity and rights to strive towards getting to the peak in the society status by being a boss of his or her own.

Every economic system has its own pros and cons, and capitalism when you weigh it, has more benefits than disadvantages, which is why it's the system used by the most developed countries today.

Location is a big deal. Some are simply in bad locations. In that case, capitalism won't work as for them as others, and note, it could be as simple as living in another part of the same nation! However, though, relocation can be a big cost and a barrier.

I only need to point at a communist country like China which has adopted a capitalist economy to be convinced that capitalism is the best system. It's not perfect, of course, but it's the only system that allows the lower echelons of the economy to achieve wealth. Capitalism doesn't just meet the needs of a country, it also meets the individual needs for satisfaction. A country's economy is robust when there are more people working to achieve their own financial goals.

I think capitalism is a good system so long as it's kept in check. Capitalism is okay if you're selling apparel, food or electronics. NOT OK if you're selling health insurance, life-saving drugs or things people really need to survive.
