World Cup Without Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

World Cup Without Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi
The qualifying stage for the World Cup in Russia is drawing to a close end and, rather unexpectedly the two footballing icon of Messi and Christiano Ronaldo are yet to guarantee their country's spot in the coming up competition in 2018.

Argentina drew with Peru with the scoreline of 0-0 and as such needs to beat Ecuador in order to secure their spot in the play-off matches and all hope is tasked on Messi to deliver for his country.

The same task faces C. Ronaldo with his country Portugal as they need to beat Andorra in order to live that battle of their group with Switzerland wide open in the final fixture against each other.

What would the World Cup in Russia 2018 be like without both C. Ronaldo and L. Messi?

The way I see it, the best games are usually ones in which unknown factors come together. When you have legends like these on the field, you know their stats. You know where they're strong, where they're weak, and what they're likely to do in a given scenario when all things are equal. That's nice for betting, but if what you want is a good game then you want the unknown factors.

Honestly, this games where you can see these "legends", are nothing more than a show to me. When I watch a soccer game I want to enjoy the game, but instead all I see is the different views of these famous players, doing this or that, like it's all about them. For sure they're both great players, they do know how to move a game, but I rather watch a game without any star on it.

It's not as if the football is all about them, well sorry to disappoint you my dear, when you mention football(Soccer) without calling C. Ronaldo and L. Messi, you really haven't started the discussion about the football topic.

These two guys have practically defined our football today and everything about football is centred on them.

As much as I agree that the new kids need an opportunity to take the stage over the current stars in the football (Soccer) stage, I would definitely tell you that it's not yet game over for C. Ronaldo and L. Messi.

These guys are the God of football we see today, the things that they do on the football pitch is unbelievable and the way they tear records, it's as if they are playing and joking. World Cup Russia 2018 would have being a mess without both of them.

I think people will survive, because they are only the players of now. Players come and go, they do not make a tournament or a match. Football is a team effort and you have the best players in the world but if they don't play as a team then they won't win. I think there is more of an issue with the FIFA scandal and whose pockets have been lined which over shadows the game still. AS for Ronaldo I think he is over hyped and he believes in it too. Wait another 5-10 years and people will not even know who he is.

It's not about the world surviving without them if they don't play in the Russia 2018 World Cup, definitely the world will stick kick but the level in which the competition is going to be would definitely be drastically reduced.

I really hate Messi as a player so, I don't want Argentina to qualify for the World Cup Russia 2018. Argentina has great players but their manager thinks that their team has to play for Messi and Messi only do great performances is in Barcelona. Also, Messi thinks he is like God and there is no one who can beat him on the field and there are a lot of players better than him because they know how to play with a team. I don't care about C. Ronaldo, his team is boring because there is no other better player in that team.

I totally agree with you on how the Argentina football team is trying to make everything about Messi. It's so bad that the country's national team is heading down the drain for a player who never produces what he offers to his club Barcelona to his national team, and the country still make a big deal about him.

Even to the extent of building a statue for him in one of their town centre when lost Coppa America Final to Chile and went into forced self imposed retirement, the country president and so many take to begging him till he came back out of retirement but still can't get them qualified for the upcoming world Cup yet.

I think the FIFA World Cup Without Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi would not be that interesting to watch because this players are very good at it and fun to watch so without them would be somehow boring to watch no excitement. for me i am a big fun of Christiano Ronaldo and i am happy seeing him playing at the finals but if he lose i don't watch anymore and ill just wait for the next season of FIFA to see him again playing.

Why? What about all of the other amazing players that are very entertaining to watch as well? Sure, Ronaldo is, in my opinion, the best player in the world but saying that the World Cup wouldn't be interesting to watch insults all of the other teams that are working very hard to reach the top teams. Many of them have great talent and you never know who might overtake Ronaldo one day.

Until C. Ronaldo or L. Messi is replaced on top of the football topping chain, they both deserve to be the spear head of the major football competition in the sporting events.

Yes I totally agree other players are talented to replace them tomorrow in the future, players such as Neymar, Hazard, Harry Kane, P. Pogba, etc they are all still below what C. Ronaldo and L. Messi offers the world football.

Without both of them, it's definitely going to be a boring competition, when the two best football player on the planet earth today misses the competition, it's totally going to be regarded as a curse in the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Hopefully either one of them would qualify straight and the other is going to participate in the play-off, and I'm actually already seeing Portugal qualified after beating Andorra 2-0. They are now going to battle with Switzerland for the top spot in Group B.

If Argentina gets lucky, they will get to play-off but they really do need to win their remaining matches and pray for luck against others to lose in order for them to make it to play-off, or otherwise they are going home from participating in the upcoming World Cup in Russia 2018.

Yes I totally agree with you that should both the two greatest football superstars of our generation fails to qualify and make it to the grandest stage of them all in all football sporting event known as the World Cup, it's definitely going to be a loss for the football fans around the world.

It's just like cooking without salt, imagine the taste of such food. This is what Russia 2018 World Cup would feel and be like if you gathered your facts well.

Both guys and team for that matter are great and they would be missed dearly. I think their heads are in the right place, to be the best and to acknowledge that there is even beyond best that very few strive to achieve. Team spirit is also paramount. Like everything else, there is a cycle for stardom as well. Perhaps this is the season where greatness will once again evolve through a surprisingly unknown source, be it team or individual. I like the unpredictability of the sport and the fact that anything can come out of the stadium. It's a part of the hype and another reason why it's the number one sport in the world for many.

Haha, it's not yet time for either of them to pass the torch to new young players. These guys are still very very hungry as a beast even at their 32 and 30 years respectively. They are still not planning on quitting, even L. Messi that went into retirement as a result of anger and disappointment for losing Coppa America Trophy to Chile, he still came out of the retirement and single handedly qualify Argentina for the 2018 World Cup Russia.

I hope to see both lads at the tournament. I am glad that Ronaldo helped his team to make the playoff stage in their qualifier and I am hopeful that Argentina will do well by qualifying as well. Truly, it is going to be a boring World cup without the two world best footballers we have at the moment.

Portugal is already guaranteed a spot ticket in the upcoming World Cup in Russia 2018 after beating Andorra 2-0 in their last qualifying fixture. What they are after now is who is going to be the leader on top of Group B table in the world Cup qualifying stages with Switzerland.

If they beat Switzerland in their last fixture, they go on top of the table, same thing goes should Switzerland beat them. It's really going to be an interesting match to watch on Tuesday 10/10/2017, I really wouldn't miss the match for anything in the world.

Well, to me I enjoy watching any day anytime without necessarily wanting to see a specific player because sometimes even with these tops on the field the game might still be boring not because they can't play but because they're not just in luck for that season or tournament. So what I really out for is a good game, where all players are involved, making the game very interesting.

You are a girl, I'm not really surprised by your stance on this but if you can really take out your time and check the real statistics and contributions these two guys are offered now in football, you would definitely have a look out for either one of them, whether it's C. Ronaldo or L. Messi.

They have been truly exceptional with how they have played so far, by capturing the hearts of millions of fans all over the world. The rivalry between them is actual what is still keeping them going.

Well, nothing is lost yet but I do agree that it would be a bit strange to watch the World Cup without Ronaldo or Messi since they're just legendary players and deserve to be there. But regardless, I think that the football matches will be very intense because the countries have stepped up their games and many also have quite amazing football players! I am definitely excited for it even if Messi and Ronaldo won't participate.

You are absolutely right, I definitely believe that they both deserve to play in the Russia 2018 World Cup because they have offered so much to the footballing community, and both of them automatically missing out on the grandest stage of it all known as World Cup, would really be a sore to eyes.

Hopefully Portugal and Christiano Ronaldo have qualified already, but the case is little more difficult and complicated for L. Messi and Argentina. If they are lucky enough, they might make it to play-off but if things doesn't go their way, they would be coming home and it's definitely going to be a huge dent to Messi's football career.

I am sure plenty of good soccer will be played even without the icons. These are the options that you might be looking for. It is just one of the things when you look at soccer. Yes, you are absolutely right, there would still be plenty of soccer played without both of Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the future, but at the moment, any grand competition without either or both of them is completely below par. Their value and contributions to football is worth so much that in an event like a World Cup, and they both miss out on it, that is very bad for business even for FIFA as well.

It'll definitely be more interesting with them, because of the feud between their fans. It's always fun to bring some friends over from the opposite team and just scream at each other. Personally, I don't like them as football players, especially Ronaldo, because of all the gimmicks, however they are fun to watch.

Both C. Ronaldo and L. Messi been in the upcoming World Cup in Russia 2018 is definitely going to be a defining moment in both their lives because I'm having cause to believe that this would or might be their last participation in the World Cup, and as such should they both miss it, will certainly be a down low of their football career.

I'm absolutely glad that both of them too time to secure their qualifications, especially Argentina and L. Messi, who waited until the last match of their qualifying group and he scored a hat-trick and immediately took his country to the Russia 2018 World Cup.

I think the chances of a world cup without Messi is highly likely, to be honest with you. They just cannot play as a team and I really can't see them winning their next match to ensure that they have some sort of a chance of getting to the world cup. If that does happen then chances are Messi retires because to miss out on the world cup is just embarrassing for a team full of talent. Ronaldo and Portugal have a decent chance of getting through and I can see them getting to the world cup.

You truly understand how situations are in the Argentina camp. Their chances of really qualifying is very thin and to look at the match they still have to play, it's really going to be difficult for them to get through and engage in the play-off.

When it was very hard for them to beat Peru, I was really surprised they played put a goaless draw. It was really their good chance to get back into the game of qualifying, at least with a guaranteed spot in the play-off but now it's looking more unlikely and they getting dropped.

And I am definitely seeing Messi retiring from international football effective immediately should they fail to qualify for the World Cup 2018 in Russia.

Everything would be different, we would also have more variety with players. Everytime you hear something about football, even if you're talking about an entire different team, people will start comparing every single one of their feats with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Don't get me wrong, I like both of them, but they're almost taking over the sport. So a world cup without them would be much better and have more variety for everyone involved.

They are not almost taking over the football sport, believe me they have actually taken it over and it's the reason why should none of them make it to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, it's definitely going to be an eye sore event.

Have you cared to check the statistics both players have offered to football, in both their plays in club side and international side. Messi has 812 professional goals and assist included, while C. Ronaldo has 813 goals and assist, after scoring one goal in their last fixture against Andorra, which took his tally 1 upper above his arch rival.

Well, if that is your disposition on football, it's definitely obvious that you sceclude yourself away from it because you truly don't understand the dealings that goes on within it. There are so many other sports for you as a girl to take interest in.

Football is not just about watching but by also understanding what is actually going on in it. Have you ever cared to ask why there is so much money involved in the world of football today? If it's a sports where it's people who don't care about it that watches, do you think a player could be sold for a crazy prices of €222 million?

I would suggest that you seek for other sports to take interest in and quit even just trying to watch football just for watching case. I would recommend long tennis for you, at least you know Serena Williams, she is a lady and is very good at the sports.

Good luck. Heatman

I mean hasn't neither of them been a factor in the world cup for the entirety of their careers. Like Ronaldo wasn't even playing during his only major tournament victory in the Euro Cup. I think he got injured like half way through. They routinely don't show up on the world stage and the game hasn't had a problem without them. It would be a different story if they were suppose to win every year, and that's not the case.

That he was injured in a match and you are making a fuse about it, I hope you really watched that match? I really doubt that you did, maybe you read it in papers or online news because had you seen how Payet twisted his knee, it was almost broken in half.

He got patched up and tried to play for 3 times before giving up. I have never seen anyone done that before, most players runs off immediately at the sight of injury.

And even at that, after he was substituted, he never went and sat on the bench, he was up limping on one leg while motivating his team mates to push up. He did more than just played in that Euro Finals and deserved that trophy more than any Country that played in the euro tournament.

If Messi and Ronaldo are missing from the world cup, then i think they will not really be missed since both of them have not really shone well at the world cup apart from Messi who guided Argentina to the final of the last world cup in Brazil. They have done well for their clubs but at the world cup level they have yet to achieve what Pele, Maradona and Gerd Muller had achieved for their various countries at the world cup.

I think that you have a good point there, both of them really haven't been that excellent in their World Cup participation, especially L. Messi. Ronaldo have tried to get to a good stage with his national team in winning the recently concluded Euro 2017.

But I think that they really need to both participate in the 2018 World Cup in Russia because I have reasons to believe that this is going to be their last involvement in any World Cup competition. So they deserve to go out of the grandest football competition with a big bang.

Well no player is bigger than the game. I have been following Football since the days of Zidane, Beckham, Brazilian Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho. They were playing and were best and are legends now. They left then these two came in. Now they would leave and we would still be watching FIFA WORLD CUP 2026 with the Golden Boot in the hands of Neymar, Griezman or James Rodriguez.

When there is no Argentina in the FIFA World Cup, the World Cup will become tasteless for me. I am an Argentinan fan and I have been cheering from Argentian since 1994 when I watched World Cup for the first time. I was Maradona fan and I am a Messi fan. I hope to see Messi lift the trophy.

Well congratulations to you, Argentina have also qualified for the Russia World Cup 2018, after L. Messi single handedly dragged them into the the tournament after scoring 3 goals in their last qualifying group marches.

But to think that Argentina would lift the World Cup trophy is definitely not going to happen. Personally, I'm tipping Germany to pip Germany to the crown. Even Brazil are in better shape to win the world Cup compared to Argentina wining the trophy.

I think in past many good players played their role and went away. I think it's going to be a cycle like this. I am sure nobody wanted maradona to leave the game. But ageing and time stops for no one. And this is going to be happening with many other players too. So we have to work with what is possible. So we have to deal with this change. I don't think it's a good sight but we have to adjust that's all.

I definitely agree with you that nothing last forever, even the life we live is not forever and so would it be to C. Ronaldo and L. Messi but before that happens, I think that deserves all the respect and praises coming their ways.

Yes, there are several new young players who can fit in well in the shoes left by C. Ronaldo and L. Messi, such Neymar, Hazard, Harry Kane, P. Pogba, N. Kante etc. But before these guys can step in to replace either of Ronaldo and Messi, the entire work would bear witness that they have played almost same thing that both C. Ronaldo and L. Exactly, before Ronaldo we had Pele, before Messi, we had Maradonna. So it's just a cycle of existence, experiencing greatness and at the same time, experiencing the downfall and diminishing of greatness . Both we have to understand that we might find another Ronaldo, but we can never find another Messi, the impact Messi has made in football is extraordinary. There is non like him and they will never be anyone like him.

I dispense comments for both players because the two are excellent. Argentina as far as I know, is already classified for the cup and it will be very cool to see Messi play. I do not know how is the situation in Portugal to qualify for the cup. But if they do not qualify, it will be a great shame not to be able to see Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch for the Russian Cup. Let's wait and see if they can get a rating.
